Barodreth Firefingers is found on the 2nd level of Erudin Palace by the fountain.

You say, 'Hail, Barodreth Firefingers'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'Greetings Jumpinjiminy, are you a [young initiate] of the Craft Keepers? If you are then I might have some great news for you. We are currently in the process of training up all new recruits so this might be your lucky day. '

You say, 'I am a young initiate'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'Excellent Jumpinjiminy. Many have passed before me and said they wished to be the greatest practicioner of the arcane to ever set foot in these halls. Many of those same people didn't amount to much but I think you are different. If you are I will be happy to get you started.'

You say, 'I am ready to begin training'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'Fantastic, I will be delighted to get you started. Toxxulia forest is where the majority of your training will be held. There are many [important components] I will need you to [gather] out in the forest and also in town.'

You say, 'What important components do I need to gather?'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'All right then Jumpinjiminy, here is your Craft Keepers Sewing Kit. In this sewing kit you will combine a number of recipes that will be used for creating your Craft Keepers armor. When you are ready to craft a certain armor piece all you must do is tell me which piece you [want] to craft. I will then present you with the component recipe along with the applicable pattern for Craft Keeper [Caps], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Sandals], [Trousers], [Gloves] and [Robes]. When you have completed the material for whatever piece you asked for you will combine it in a sewing kit with the appropriate pattern to fashion your armor piece. Its as easy as that, I suggest though that you attempt your robe last as the components are more difficult then any other piece to collect.'

You say, 'I want to craft Robes'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'To create your robe material you will need to combine 5 Woven Spider Silks, 1 Giant Wood Spider Thorax, 1 Skunk Tail, 1 Spider Venom, 1 Fire Beetle Leg and 1 Giant Rat Tooth in your assembly kit. Once you have created the proper material take it to a sewing kit along with this pattern to fashion your very own Robe of the Craft Keeper. Please return to me once you have fashioned your robe for I might have a [final task] for you to complete.'

You say, 'What is the final task?'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'There are a few items that I need for my studies and I was hoping that you could retrieve them for me. If you are willing to [seek out my items] I will be happy to reward you with my personal walking staff once you return.'

You say, 'I am willing to seek out the items'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'Please retrieve 1 Calcified Ribcage, 1 Kobold Hide, 1 Twilight Bloom and 1 Giant Wood Spider Femur I will eagerly await your return.'

Could they have made this quest any more of a pain to complete?
I see about one calcified skeleton every hundred or so decaying skeleton and yet to see a single greater skeleton, which are apparently the only mobs that MIGHT drop the calcified ribcage. Even the regular skeletons are maybe a 1 in 50 spawn. And on top of that, the drop is obviously rare based on both comments here and my experience so far. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=16237

I do prefer to run these newbie armor/weapon quests, for flavor reasons. But I think this one is going to get tossed to the side.

Barodreth Firefingers is on Keepers of the Art faction. You need at least apprehensive with Keepers of the Art to do this quest.

The quest gives no faction hits.

I have a 50 mage on Coirnav server and we are still in the "original era". I had a Twilight Bloom, Kobold Hide, and Giant Wood Spider Femur sitting in the bank from my earlier levels where I tend to horde quest items with the hopes of completing the quests eventually. I only needed the Calcified Ribcage so I set off to Nekulos to camp the skeleton's in the NW corner of the zone. After spending a few hours there, I realized that none of the skeletons were dropping any of the calcified parts - including the "a calcified skeleton". After doing a bit of research and comparing forum dates to expansion releases, I concluded that these calcified parts (namely the "calcified ribcage") does not drop until a later expansion - most likely LoY (Legacy of Ykesha) expansion.

I think you are correct. This quest was entered in "Thu Jul 17 23:37:10 2003" which is during LoY. I've set the era to LoY for this quest.

I like this weapon for my young wizard. It has reasonable stats for a low level item. The calcified ribcage was the hardest of the four quest items to find though. I had to kill probably between 100-200 skeletons (not the decaying kind) to get one to drop. I finally got a calcified ribcage of a calcified skeleton in Nektulos forest. I fought these: 'a skeleton' 'a greater skeleton' 'a calcified skeleton'. These all drop the calcified bone pieces. It just seems as though the ribcage is more rare.

He says he'll give you his personal walking stick... but it's a knife. Maybe that's that he uses when he's in gnome form? :P

GOOD NEWS!!! You can find skellies dropping the calcified ribcage pretty often (they dropped 3 in 30 minutes to an hour for me and some friends) near -1500, 500, +/- 200 in each direction. It's a little south of the river, a little north of the PoP book for Paineel over toward the body of water that separates the Kerra Isle zone-in from the rest of the zone.

Please note that we killed 40 skellies or more in other parts of the zone to no avail. This seems to be the only area that dropped them.

Has anyone seen a calcified ribcage drop since this quest was introduced? I have killed bunches of skeletons in Tox. Forest and calcified skeletons in Nektulos, all to no avail. Where, if anywhere, are calcified ribcages being dropped, or are they just super-rare now?

Hmm, although pretty rare drop, I've seen them at least twice off of regular Skeletons in south Toxxulia. In fact, I got mine on the same day you posted your message. Wierd.

Got mine last weekend in Southern Tox off a regular Skeleton, too. Although I've seen calcified bones drop more frequently off the Greater Skeletons in Nektulous Forest (especially the ones at the Haunted Monolith East from the EC zone entrance), and the Skeletons in North Tox newbie area, this was my first Calcified Ribcage drop -- go figure. Now, where are the Giant Rat Tooths for my robe? Got everything else. :-)

I was getting Giant Rat teeth off of the infected rats - got 3 Giant teeth and about a dozen normal teeth.
