Lord Qyzar is standing on the parapet one level up in the SK guild, at +1005, -150. For the Crusader's Test of the Hero, Lord Qyzar requires you to retrieve the [visceral dagger].

You say, 'What of the visceral dagger?'

Lord Qyzar says 'The visceral dagger was an ancient torturing weapon. I do not know much of it other than that it was forged by a member of the Brood of Kotiz, but that was ages ago. He is surely dust by now.'

Not much to go on, but if you find your way to the Crypt of Dalnir, you can find various scraps of paper called "A Journal Entry" which identify as "Crusader Nodfod 1-6."

#1 reads:


Day 47

Crusader Golin and I have discovered what we
believe to be the crypt of the ancient Haggle
Baron Dalnir. It would seem as though the babble
of the goblin slave we caught and tortured turned
out to be accurate.
Unfortunately we must rest and plan our route
into the depths of this beast. It is filled with
very dangerous creatures. Hopefully we can
overcome the odds and find the final resting
place of the Visceral Dagger and the Grand Forge.


#2 reads:

Day 48
Blast! This IS the Crypt of Dalnir. We found
the entrance which had the ancient Haggle Baron's
name upon it. How foolish of the crypt keepers!
The Crypt is filled with croaks from many races.
They seem to be in some sort of trance and far
more powerful then they appear. We were about to
enter the main tomb when we were assaulted by
the horde. Crusader Golin sustained a major gash
on his shoulder. Before I could cauterize his
wound, blood flowed all over, even this entry.
Tomorrow we shall try to enter the main tomb.


#3 reads:

Day 49
We finally had an opportunity to make a run into
the main tomb, but just as we had the
sarcophagus in our sights, we fell through a
trap door hidden on the floor. We fell into what
appears to be the true Crypt of Dalnir and also
a haven for coerced sarnak! They were upon us in
no time. We ran, but found ourselves in an
unholy church. We fought our way out, but just
as we broke through, Golin's skull was punctured
by what appeared to be a rusted Crusader's
khukri. I am now in hiding, praying to any god.


#4 reads:

Day 49 Eve
The gods were listening. After many hours of
hiding, it appears the beasts have gone to
perform some sort of dark ritual in the church
we found earlier. I could hear the screams of a
sacrifice and the chant of some unknown tongue.
I did a reconnaissance of this level and found
no way out. The walls had tombs built into them
as mortuaries do. None of the doors would open,
but I did find one. I slid the sarcophagus out
with much effort. Before I could attempt to open
it I was scared off by noises within the drawer.


#5 reads:

Day 50
What have I gotten myself into? Soon I shall be
dead. After finding the secret passage through
the drawer, I found myself in a pit of evil. I
crept through the shadows and came upon a locked
door. I am no rogue. The door opened and a beast
walked out, I spied the Grand Forge! Perhaps,
also, a way to escape this madness. There must
a key around here somewhere! On the beasts
perhaps. Even fragments which I could piece
together would do. I shall have to face great
evil once more. Gods be with me once more.


#6 reads:

Day 55
I have made my way past many locked doors and
encountered great hordes of evil. The forge
is here. Unfortunately I have learned that the
dagger is fragmented in the crypt. I lost much
in here. My good friend and along with him the
shard which may be a piece to a larger puzzle,
the khukri, Greenmist. I could never get that
back. I would need to speak with the Brood and
obtain a Crusader Coffin. But should I return to
Cabilis without the dagger, Qyzar would torture
me. No! Here shall be my last stand!


You can also occasionally encounter a spectral crusader in the room at +150, -340, -180, who does not respond to hails but will offer a few more clues if you ask the right questions:

You say, 'Do you know of Greenmist?'

a spectral crusader says 'Mighty was the mist which covered the land. Mighty is the blade wielded by a crusader.'

You say, 'Are you Golin?'

a spectral crusader swipes his hand toward his own head in a chopping motion. 'Stuck between crypt and dust.'

You say, 'What of the visceral dagger?'

a spectral crusader says 'Shattered!! Three within the crypt. A master must go. To the [grand forge] they must go. Three become one with the spirit hammer.'

You say, 'Grand forge?'

a spectral crusader points to the ground. 'Beyond the doors lies a forge unlike any other.'

You need to collect three parts of the dagger and the hammer used to reunite them. The three parts of the dagger drop from three different versions of a kly imprecator, each of which may be found in a different part of the dungeon.

a wry kly imprecator spawns on the second floor, in an alcove at +260, -885, -80. From where you drop down to the level, head east, then north as though to get to the portal that exits the dungeon from that level. Where you would turn west to go to the portal, go east instead, and follow the passage north, then west at the next junction, and the path will lead to the room where the next imprecator spawns. This one drops a Dagger Hilt (identifies as "Hilt of Visceral Dagger").

Next, drop to the third floor and head south from the landing spot to reach a room with three decapitated statues to find an undead blacksmith. His placeholder is by the north wall of the room at -45, -685, -190 (the same location as one of the journal scraps). He drops a Forge Hammer of Dalnir.

a shy kly imprecator spawns at the altar in the church area, at +205, -610, -190. He drops a Sharp Metal Shard (identifies as "Shard of Dagger").

a sly kly imprecator spawns in the last room on the left just before the dining room as you're heading south to where the Kly himself spawns, at +10, -155, -180. The placeholder is whatever mob is standing near the lab table in that room. He drops a Jagged Metal Shard (identifies as "Fragment of Dagger").

The Grand Forge is in a room down a passage on the right just before the Kly's room, at -230, +30, -180. Remember this location if you're planning to do the Greenmist quest, since you'll have to use the forge and the nearby tormented tradesman for that as well. The tradesman sees invis but is indifferent to all. Put the three dagger pieces and the hammer in the forge and combine them to create The Visceral Dagger (identifies as "Rusted Visceral Dagger"). The hammer and pieces are consumed.

Just an fyi, the 3 kly imprecators have been renamed, each dropping their own piece of the quest.

the names are :
a shy kly imprecator - Church alter
a sly imprecator - Lab room
a wry kly imprecator - Shackles room, second level

these mobs will also only drop their piece of the dagger, and not that of the others.

I will edit this with the names per location as stated above ( Shackles room, Alter of the church, and Lab room ( though in the lab room it's not the mob nearest the lab table, but the one that is nearest to the bookshelf)) as I see them and remember to place them here. atm I only have the lab room one left to get to finish.

Just so you all can time things out easier each spawn point i have encountered is on a 14 minute timer. I am down to the lab imp and usually break up the 4 spawns (in both "labs") so i am only waiting about 3-4 min max for next mob to spawn. makes staying awake a lot easier. So far i have been camping this guy an average of 4 hours every day for almost a week now, but i still have not seen him =x

I can't believe that a lvl 30 "named" takes so long to spawn ... seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I have finally managed to gather all the pieces for the dagger - and now I attempt to place them in the forge - NOTHING happens!! Okies so I think to myself - lets wield the hammer and try with just the other 3 - OH goodies - I get a you cannot combine these items - meanwhile invis drops and I have to run like mad - So thinking that maybe I made a mistake the first time I attempt it again - still no luck.
I have noe come to the conclusion that maybe the new trade skills UI is causing a bug with this.
If anyone has managed it since then please post.

I wanted to take the time to help clear up any confusion and help out all yu guys who will e doing the same thing I was. I spent 7 real life days camping the Imp in the Church. I petitioned thinking there was a timer problem. I question the info I had and thought I was in the wrong spot, I about gave up. Don't do that!. The info on the map and posted about this quest is right on the money. The Imps do spawn in the shackle room, church and the lab the PHer in the Church is the Kly behind the alter you can pull him with Dooming Darkness and get him single. Also don't question if they'll pop cause they will. All three were in the spots listed above and each had thier piece. I hope you don't have my bad luck and get the first shard fast and wait 7 real life days for the next. Good luck.

Just sort of an echo of the above post, they do pop, but take their time doing so. The 1st took a day to spawn, while the church one took nearly 3 weeks. Was on my so called "last day" camping there, was ready to give up, when he finally popped. HT'd him just out of frustration lol...

BTW the 3rd one in the lab spawned 10 minutes after I got there... lemme tell yu, that was a relief...

I was having problems with the lab guy too. After clering the area for the 3rd time, I went back up stairs to see if one of the Imps had spawned. Sure enough the one in the shcakle room had spawned. Rumor is only one Imp will spawn at a time. So I killed that one, and waited to see next spawn. It was an envoker this time, a PH, so I left him alone. Went back to Lab and there was that Imp. Killed him and got my last peice. Now I am working on the hammer and I am done. Now, I am having problems getting the Undead Smith to spawn. Oh,well, I guess I will figure it out.

Read my post below. We also heard the "one Imp" rumor, but via Druid tracking, we saw TWO up at the same time.

(4/30/2003): I'm in the middle of this now too. Grouped with a 39 Warrior, 39 Cleric, 39 Druid and myself 39 Necro. Druid keeps tracking up, and we know his range from tests (about 1200 feet) so it covers almost all of Dalnir, including vertical displacement. We've seen the 2nd floor Imp pop 3 times in 6 trips there. We're currently camping the church in 2-3 hour spurts every few days, and nada. PH after PH. Never seen an Imp pop on the 3rd floor at all (by looking, and by tracking). We've heard the rumors that only one Imp can be up at a time, so whenever the 2nd floor Imp pops, we whack it and go back to the church, but still, nothing.

Also, thinking that the Spectral Crusader might have some influence on Imp spawns, we went to hail him. He ignored all of us. So....how anyone got him to talk, originally, and give the quest, is beyond me. We killed him out of anger and frustration and he dropped a useless bamboo bo stick.

The blacksmith pops often and is an easy room. But the 2 shards are elusive and if we weren't getting good XP from everything in this hole in the ground, we'd have given up on getting me this dagger long before now.

If you ask the crusader "what visceral dagger" he answers, kinda in riddles. I doubt that this is required, but when you are clearing the level continuosly waiting for the stupid lab drop, you get bored. I spent 8 hours in this place last night - first imp was up, bagged him - blacksmith took about 8 times clearing the room before he popped, and shard in the church dropped after clearing it the second time. Lab I spent about 6 hours until I fell asleep (in lab lol) for about an hour, and no imp. Overseer drops a shattered crusader khurki - must be from his last victim! :) I am a 53 DE SK by the way, on Morrell-Thule. If I can help feel free to drop me a tell.

More information...

The *true* beginning of this quest is not the Spectral Crusader, listed here. It is "Lord Qyzar" of Cabilis East. He is the person who sends you out to find the Visceral Dagger as part of the "Crusader's Test of the Hero" quest. That is why *hailing* the Spectral Crusader will not start the quest. But with the information provided by Lord Qyzar, you know to go to the Spectral Crusader and say "What about the Visceral Dagger?" and *then* the Spectral Crusader speaks.

I know it's a minor point, but I think complete and accurate information should be distributed here.

And still more information...

First off, I got my Jagged Metal Shard last night. Only the Church Imp to go now.

But more importantly, our Druid confirmed *2 Imprecators on track at the same time*! This is contrary to the rumor that only one can spawn at a time. As it turns out, the two pops were the Lab Imp and the Shackle Room Imp. And the spawns came RIGHT after we tried to kill the Overseer (and failed) and zoned out using the teleporter behind the Overseer. Not sure if either the attack or the use of the teleporter or both or neither had something to do with the spawning of the Imps. But for SURE, there can be at least 2 Imps up at one time.

With the luck we had getting *2* Imps to pop, we tried the following experiment:

Went into Dalnir...confirmed NO Imps on track and went to the Church. Cleared it completely. Then, before it had time to re-pop, we had a 50th level ranger run invisibly to the Overseer room and attack him, then walk thru the teleporter in the Overseer room. After this, the church began re-popping on schedule, but the altar pop was NOT the Imprecator. So, the theory that an Imp spawns due to either (a) attacking the Overeer or (b) using the Overseer's teleporter seems to be wrong.

On a mixed-note, a guild friend of mine found the Sharp Metal Shard for sale (cheap) in the Bazaar and I'm headed into Dalnir soon to do my combine. Guess I'll never know how to make the Church Imp spawn. Good luck to the next poor soul who has to try this. Took me over 8 separate 3 hour hunts over the course of a month just to get the first 3 parts.

One final piece of information. I got my Visceral Dagger last night and can confirm that you CAN use the Forge while invisible. We went in, stayed invisible the whole time, used the forge and walked invisibly out past the Overseer through the teleporter. Not a single hit was thrown.

I was really lucky when i first went to dalnir, imp on 2nd floor was up so i killed it and after less then 1 hour of camping lab i got my shard. did blacksmith soon after beacuse he was up (you dont have to clear room if the other mobs in it con light blue or green) but yesterday i camped the church for about 5ish hours and not a single spawns of imp (i am only pulling one at alter and leaveing all the others up (there is a small room near which has no spawns in and is out of range of casters in the church)) and if you didnt know spawn time is 13mins

I camped this item with a 55 necro in the church one day. We sat there for about 6 hours inialating the mobs. Then we decided leave the room to see if that might work, we stepped out into the hall and pulled to there. Low and behold on the next cycle he spawned and the necro got his shard. Not sure if this was a coincidence or not but if it wasnt I hope this is helpfull

In the church which kly is the ph? im guessing the one at the podium, Ive just been clearing the room but thats getting tedious, if its just the one at the podium ill only bother killing him, at 55 i can single pull any spawn in this dungeon, i just need to know which one.

I just finished this quest and was hoping you could learn from my mistakes. Lvl 50 necro on Druzzil Ro.
First camp (dagger hilt) is the Imp on the second floor in shackle room, at 50 piece of cake. Just root everything you fight on your way to the room so they do not train the floor on you when they make a run for it. Happened to me but I was able to emerge victorious. Took about an hour to get him to spawn, he spawns at shackles and you have to kill place holder to get him to spawn.
Second camp (sharp metal shard) is the church. 8 Kly in there. I pulled them one at a time to the hallway. Not a problem as they were all green. Pull melee first as the casters will cast on you and your dumb pet will charge the room and then you are in a lot of trouble. 5 spawn in the pews and 3 spawn on the platform. I broke these up by a few minutes so I was killing 5 (only one up at a time) and then the 3. I would send pet then DD with Insideous retrogression or Ignite bones, about a 15 minute spawn time. Took me about 5 hours, grr.
Third spawn (jagged metal shard)Labratory. I summoned pet outside the complex of rooms by the water but made sure I was clear of agro, nothing close. fought my way to Lab by pulling one at a time. Lab has 2 spawns and the one by the lab equipment is placeholder. Everyonce and a while i would get a wanderer from the hall join in the fighting but only a few times. This took about 6 hours.
Fourth spawn (forged hammer of dalnir) undead Blacksmith. This is the worse and I died here several times. There is 3 mobs in the room atleast. I kept getting dumped to desktop in the hall outside the room repeatedly so that made this much more difficult. Do not use a pet as he will only get you killed when a caster in there sees you, and your pet charges the room. Unless you want to continually tell him to back off. Again I was getting dumped so being invised was clearly the way to go for me. I ended up going to the door invised, casting Ignite blood on the Placeholder (the one in the back)pulling him to the open space down the hall and root dotting him. Pretty easy. That is alot easier then trying to crack a little room with up to 4 mobs when you think you are gonna get dumped at any second. That one took about an hour also. You will also want to use banish undead on the blacksmith.
You now have all 4 pieces, Invis and run to the hall outside the forge. kill anything there and pull those in the room to you. The tradesmen in there should be indifferent so do not bother with him. put all for 4 parts in the forge and hit combine and wa laa. There you go.
The shards are lore and the hammer and hilt are lore no drop. Most of the time involved is camping the shard pieces. Very boring but all things considered at 50 it was easy to do. Read the other posts to see other peoples spawn times. Sounds like mine were shorter then many.

argggh! i'm lvl 36 so i require assistance of other higher lvls to help me out, which sometimes takes a while to find, i've tried the church imp over 5 times for 2 hours each and i've only seen him pop once, and he did NOT drop the sharp shard! >=-(

Just camped Dalnir for 6 hours, got my pieces from the 2nd floor Imp, Smith and Church Imps. Finally the lab Imp spawned, keeled him and he dropped a "Rod Segment II" - really sucks that I have to camp his *** again. Only Imp I found that has ever dropped something other than what he's supposed to.
