/loc of Corun Finisc?

You say, 'Hail, Corun Finisc'
Corun can be found a short distance west of the Druid's guild hall, or inside of the guildhall, itself.

Corun Finisc says 'Hello. My name is Corun Finisc and I am one of the Jaggedpine Treefolk. It is our divine responsibility to watch over and protect Surefall Glade and its [inhabitants] from those who seek to [destroy] them.'

You say, 'Who are the inhabitants?'

Corun Finisc says 'The bears of Surefall Glade are our brothers. We are all children of [Tunare]. We would gladly die in their defense.'

You say, 'Who is Tunare?'

Corun Finisc says 'Tunare is the Mother of All. It is through Her will that we protect this land and its many creatures.'

You say, 'Who is destroying them?'

Corun Finisc says 'Poachers in seach of bear skins and [gnolls] who attack us unprovoked. We are doing all we can to stop them. May [Tunare] give me the strength needed to smite them dead with my [crook].'

You say, 'What about your crook?'

Corun Finisc says 'My crook? The Jaggedpine crook is an enchanted weapon of the Jaggedpine Treefolk. The [Sabertooths] take great pleasure in destroying the crooks ofany [sic] Treefolk they manage to slay. If you were to recover the pieces of a broken crook, I would gladly mend it for you.'

You say, 'What Sabertooths?'

Corun Finisc says ''The Sabertooths are a vicious band of gnolls who live in Blackburrow, to the east of Surefall Glade. They constantly attack us when we only seek to share this land with them. They also send many patrols out into the Qeynos Hills to the south. We have even seen a Sabertooth skulking about in the caves behind Grizzly Falls. There is a [reward] for his hide.'

This is a Jaggedpine crook staff that is broken in pieces in Qeynos Hills. Only Gnoll Hunters have the parts. The gnoll hunters are very rare and getting the staff pieces is difficult.

You have slain a gnoll hunter!
Your faction standing with Sabertooths of Blackburrow could not possibly get any worse.
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos got better.
Your faction standing with Silent Fist Clan got better.
Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk got better. (Need faction hit values for all of these)
Your faction standing with Merchants of Qeynos got better.

If you give one piece of the staff to Corun.

Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk could not possibly get any better. (Need faction hit value)
Your faction standing with Protectors of the Pine has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with QRG Protected Animals has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Unkempt Druids has been adjusted by -2.
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos could not possibly get any better. (Need faction hit value)
You gain experience!!

Once you have both the Bottom of Broken Staff and Top of Broken Staff, give them to Corun.

Corun Finisc says 'Excellent! Here is a Jaggedpine Crook of your own. Please use it only to defend yourself and never to attack one of Tunare's creatures. You will find that while wielding the crook, Tunare grants you a boon of strength and the power to smite enemies who would otherwise be impervious to physical attacks.'
Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk got better. +10
Your faction standing with Protectors of Pine got better. +2
Your faction standing with QRG Protected Animals got better. +1
Your faction standing with Unkempt Druids got worse. -2
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos got better. +1
You gain experience!!

NOTE: need clarification on the faction hits for the turn in of the staff pieces... do you get two hits (one per half --which is possible with the way the dialogue is stated)?

Updated, thanks.

Note that we need clarification that this quest write-up is all in the correct order, and not missing any other dialogues. It also remains unknown how many faction hits actually happen. I ideally someone running the entire quest can fill us in.
Faction details and additional dialogue.

Upon handing in just one half of the crook:

Corun Finisc says 'Look what you have found! It is tragic to know that for every broken crook that is recovered, one of the Treefolk has lost his life. Those gnolls will pay some day. If you have the other half of the crook I will repair it for you.'

Faction adjustments upon handing in both:

Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk could not possibly get any better.

I have 2 Jaggedpine Crook Staffs in the bank and am working on the 3rd. It has good stats for a weapon that low levels can group together to obtain. The gnoll hunters are very rare spawns that I have seen more often near the guard tower leading to West Karana. They are about the same level as a gnoll scout. I've killed about 10 gnoll hunters now, and the most common spot to find them in is the valley that runs north between the entrance to Blackburrow and the entrance to Surefall. I've killed 2 near the guard tower and only 1 in the western part of Qeynos Hills, between the lake and the trail.
Here's my log of what happened when I hailed Corun Finisc and turned in both pieces:

I'm curious if anyone knows it's whereabouts. I'd appreciate an email to ejkdrake@yahoo.com if you do. Also, anyone know how i submit new quests to the paeg? please send me a mail should you know.

In the druid's guild there are two ladies at the table. The one on the right you give the head to. She will give you a tarnashed scrimiter(lore) and asks you to sharpen it. She all so wants a Large King snake skin and a gnoll's fang. when you do that and turn it in she gives you a new weapon.

I'm told that the defiler's head is part of one of the newbie armor quests. Try eqtraders.com's quest section.

Time Table
# Mar 02 2002 at 12:23 AM Rating: Default
The Gnoll Hunter is an Ultra Rare spawn, and is set on a 3 day timer, and on the 3rd day he spawns 3 times. So you kill him on Monday, on Wednesday if you happen to find him he will spawn twice again. However, he is NEVER in the same place twice in month. I have had him spawn near the guard tower, Haunted Ruins, the small lake, Miller Fire area, the merchant's house, Blackburrow Mouth, and several other places. He used to have placeholders which were A Rabid Grizzly, A Dread Corpse, Tovax Vmar (Unconfirmed), a Giant Bat, Gnoll Scout, Gnoll Whatcher (Southern, closest to tree), and a Rude Person (now broken). Due to the placeholder of the Rude Person this time table may not work any more. He also had a spawn tied to the Gnoll Master Brewer. If you kill the Gnoll Master Brewer he is supposed to spawn everyday for the next 3 days. As you can see, Verant had fun doing this. QH is a zone in ruins. Quests seem to break of at joints around there, the sword that used to summon a Wolf Pet if you comleted the entire thing, the Defiled Grizzly, Cros Treewind, Rude Persons, so don't count on this being 100% correct. There is also a ratio about 1piece/30hunters. Let me know how this works, I need only the bottom half- No explanation for why one part drops more frequently than the other...

Maybe YOU think its a piece of crap...
but look at it from a newbie standpoint - sure the damage ratio is a little low.. take a look the the tags though.. it carries a MAGIC tag. it can used to take out all of those willowips running around unharmed in Qeynos Hills and the nearby "Wisp Isle" in the Erud's Crossing zone. That by itself is a more than worth it to a true newbie or untwinked alt.

I have quested the staff as my Ranger for its roleplay value (and bragging rights)... As of July 24, 2002 the Gnoll Hunters are still around (green to my level 15 Shamaness) and I looted two top halves of the broken staff in about an hour and a half.

You're amazing! How the hell did you figure this out, at lvl 8? I have tried your placeholders and used the times, every 3 days, and when I found one I looked for 2 more. It only took me a month to assemble the full staff, and guess what? It's a piece of CRAP.

I was bored waiting for one of my friends to sign on so I ported myself to Surefall to give some armor that I had looted recently in Splitpaw to some newbies...when lo and behold I notice a gnoll hunter on track, remembering that they are supposed to drop peices of something for a quest I ran over to it and nuked=>looted=>got the bottom half. I didnt realize it was the least common peice to drop until I checked it on here, now I'm gonna hang out there till i can get the other piece.

I had a lvl 7 druid, and i just couldnt see the point using blunt. it just always sucked majorly. The simple, easy, mind-numbling boring solution?

Kill a skeleton with a rusty scimitar, take it, train at least three points in 1h slash.

Easy, huh?

It is true that the Druid epic is a 1hs, but finding a good 1hs between lvls 10 and 45 is not easy unless you have pp. 1hb weapons that are good for druids are much easier to come by and are actually quite good.

As this is a ranger/druid only weapon.. the druid above you you're saying DUH to doesn't see the point in using a blunt weapon (druid epics a 1HS anyhow)... this quest has nothing to do with monks, you can't even use this blunt weapon so why knock what the druid's saying you being a monk =P

I too spent my youth around BB and had the fortune of killing a hunter when I was but level 7 or so. Meet him coming back from the cottage as I was running back to kill more of his relatives in BB. He dropped the bottom half and I already had the top from a skelly who did not need it any more. I was shaking with glee knowing I had accomplished a rare feat..I was going to get me a staff that few had obtained. I ran back to Surefalls and found the NPC that had sent me on this adventure. I gave him both pieces at the same time and pushed the button. OH OH....he took the two pieces and gave me zippo, nada, nothing..just thanked me and had me standing there staring at him..Where was my staff???? I knew I had used the correct pieces. Must have been bugged or something but I knew there was little that would be done over my "small" problem so I sucked it up and every time my level 39 ranger, my 22 level ranger, my 15 level ranger , my level 3 ranger (yes, I like rangers) and my level 3 druid sees a gnoll hunter or a skelly with a staff in Q Hills you can bet they die a horrible death. I have both pieces again and someday I will have enough courage to try it again. Not that the staff is so wondrous but its the principle of the thing. And as a previous guy posted...if the NPC steals my stuff again he will die by the hands of a friend's 55 necro. Afterall, I have Surefall factions to consider...LOL

Be glad you have gotten both pieces at all!!!!
I have been lookin gfor a hunter to drop the bottom half for over a year now(real life time).
I have killed as many of them as i could fine, track, loot(with permission). And i have yet to find the bottom half of that stupid staff..
But i shall endevour to find it. As i really hate those gnolls.. :)

Well after 35 levels of lookign for the bottom half of this staff I finally got. After a Raid I was just hanging out byt he cross roads in the hills and sure enough a hunter spawned. Now this quest is special to me as I think Gnoll slayer aside this is the last of my Surefall quests I have long ago given the top part of the staff to my druid alt but I needed the bottom. I keep good records of my quests and I know I have killed 46 Gnoll Hunters over the months and not until number 47 did I get the bottom (I did get 15 tops though and gave them all away except the first one). So now I have to give this Bottom half to my druid and get the staff together lol. Took longer but was less boring than the cloak quest.

The staff is just not good enough to try to get, considering the time required. For low levels (i guess 5-9) it might be ok, but really even then it's not really worth it. I'd say save up some money and buy a glowing wooden crook if you want that crook look. If you want the faction there's a ton of other places to get it. The only reason I can really see to try to get this is for bragging rights or if some other quest is made to go with it...
RE: Not worth it, really
# Mar 26 2002 at 3:49 AM Rating: Decent
True it is worthless but as a bit of homecity pride i have hunting him on and off for 2 years now and have gotten the top of staff twice and maybe 6 to 10 times nothing. I have offered a reward of 50pp for the other half just as a matter of getting it even though i am not a drd or ranger. Still no luck.

Just another Qeynos Ghetto rat that made something out of himself. if you can non PL in qeynos to mid teens you are just that good even if the best you can get is bronze weapons and raw hide. I can't return home without least a bag of bronze or steel for lowbies. its sad that they cry with joy and thanks when this is merchant fodder anywhere else.

Rangers can't use a glowing wooden crook -- and it would take more time saving up the money for one than it would to do the quest.

For the Damage/Delay and stats, likely not. It is a decent weapon for a new character, but given the time required to obtain both segments, you would be better served (on most servers) sticking with a Runed Totem Staff or cracked staff until you can save enough plat for a screaming mace and the like.

Laceroy,

Yes - if you're lucky. The Hunters are on the same spawn table as the gnoll scouts. I believe they do spawn in front of/near BB, but they then run south towards the guard tower. It's possible they cross the road and run back north if not killed, as I saw one there in the western hills. As was metioned, just keep an eye on your tracking, and kill every scout you see. Eventually the hunters will appear, and eventually ONE of them will have the bottom piece - though it seems to be the rarer of the two.

Spawn Time at 9?

I have to post a disagreement with the spawn time at 9 a.m. just south of BB near the gnoll watchmen. I was there this morning, waiting diligently and at 9 a.m. nothing showed up. I continued to stay near the 3 gnoll watchmen, watching the hills, using Tracking, until 10 a.m. Not a single gnoll hunter.

It is possible that it is not his spawn site but a site he wanders to as I _DID_ find and kill a gnoll hunter at 4 a.m. while on my way to the fabled spawn point (of course, he did not drop either staff part). This gnoll hunter was at loc 629.14, 757.52 which is at the very start of the hills (going toward Surefall Glade), the second hill to the left.

I doubt even that will help. Good luck.
