/loc of Larsk Juton?

You say, 'Hail, Larsk Juton'

Larsk Juton says 'Hail, Adventurer! I hope you are enjoying your time in Surefall Glade. You must be careful when leaving the Jaggedpine. There have been many report of [Sabertooths] attacking travelers.'

You say, 'What are Sabertooths?'

Larsk Juton says 'The gnolls of Blackburrow are called Sabertooths. They have been seen in force on a regular basis. They are surely up to something. We have even heard rumors of a [pact] between Qeynos merchants and the dogs.'

You say, 'What pact?'

Larsk Juton says 'Sources have come forward to tell of a pact between a merchant of Qeynos and the Sabertooths. It all has to do with blades and brew. We hear that a meeting will occur soon, somewhere in the Qeynos Hills at night. Do not fear, we shall find a brave ranger to [halt this meeting].'

You say, 'I will halt this meeting.'

Larsk Juton says 'Very good of you. Stop this meeting by killing the gnoll in Qeynos Hills. We hear that he shall be there in the late evening, and that his name is Furgoot or Furgy, something like that. Find him and kill him. I want his head. And if you should find any evidence of who the merchant is, be sure to hand it over to me.'

Gnasher Furgutt may be found in Qeynos Hills (/loc?).

You say, 'Hail, Gnasher Furgutt'

Gnasher Furgutt says 'Who are you? Did McNeal send you? If not, you would do yourself good to leave Gnasher alone. I have friends in high places.'

Kill him to loot a Gnoll Head (identifies as "Gnasher's Head"). Bring it back to Larsk Juton.

Larsk Juton says 'So, I see you rid the hills of the beast. Good work! I have a reward for you. I hope it will be usefull. I am afraid this gnoll's death will not halt the alliance between the two. I shall require your services to [assist in the extermination of the gnoll brewers].'

Your faction standing with Protectors of Pine got better.
Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk got better.
Your faction standing with Sabertooths of Blackburrow could not possibly get any worse.
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos got better.
You gain experience!!
You receive 3 gold from Larsk Juton.

You receive a random piece of low-level armor.

You can also turn the head in to Captain Tillin in South Qeynos (need all dialogues, faction hits, quest rewards).

Need list of quest rewards.

He will have to attend to this matter. Also.. Let me see the gnoll's head. I must know you killed him. Be safe, my friend. I am sure that whoever this McNeal is, he was simply a lackey. Whoever he works for is most likely going to be looking for you. Watch your back in Qeynos.'

Captain Tillin says 'I heard you were on your way. I have called for the state executioner. She should be on her way now. She will deal with our friend, McNeal Jocub. Thank you for your help, citizen.'

Executioner says 'Aye sir!'

You say, 'Hail, Executioner'
Executioner says 'I have no time to talk, citizen. Please, step aside!'

Executioner slashes a sewer rat for 99 points of damage.

Executioner says 'McNeal Jocub? You have been found guilty of crimes against the city of Qeynos.'
McNeal Jocub says 'You shall never take me alive!!'

Supposedly the executioner kills McNeal, for me, they both blinked out, McNeal was still there, and then the executioner was outside the building, walked off and despawned.

Caught this gnoll at 3872.94 - 865.55 4.52. He popped at 11:00pm game time. Gave head to Larsk Juton then gave note to him. No reward other than sword and coin. Took note to Tillin and got additional xp and medal.

There is also another reward not mentioned. The ranger guild leader you give the head and note to, also gives you a raw-hide tunic, which is nice if you are a newbie starting with nothing. I think you have to give him both the head and the note at the same time, though, so be sure you have them both.

The time is almost exact!! I killed all knolls and Giant field rats for about 30 mins, real time.

The hut across from BB is where I saw him running. Killed him. Got Head and note.

Went back to SG. Larsk Juton is MIA. I waited there for 1 1/2 hours real time and gone. Am I looking in the right place??? Behind the Ranger Guild house, by the water??

This quest still works--Got Gnasher this morning and he dropped head, and note. Turned both in to Larsk in Surefall and he gave the note back to me advising me to take it to Tillin (will do that tomorrow). I got XP and an AC8 tunic and a little money and faction for the head.

Can't seem to find him anywhere. I don't have track. What are the upper hills? The ones near Surefall? Or the ones that run along the eastern side of QH?

Thanks,

I've been looking for days (literally)

I did this quest as an 18th level Ranger; it was an easy quest except for one tiny problem-the Millers. I have never had a problem with them before.
With track you can find Furgutt. He is found in the upper hills before morning light. I Rooted, snared, Flame Lick him and hit him hard.
I grabed my prize head and went back to Surefall Glad. I did not make it. As soon as the Millers; (who of course are always sitting around the campfire)saw me, they attacked me-and of course the guards standing there had to help.
I have been KOS to them ever since.
Someone want to explain why; and how I can stop the Millers with out having to keep killing them. They will foul up your faction with the Merchants.
You can turn in both note and head at the same time and get xps.

The Millers are on Karana Residents faction which shouldn't be affected by killing Gnasher. I have done the quest numerous times and had no problem with the Millers. You must have lowered your faction some other way. Killing innocent farmers (not the ones at the bandit camp) and other residents of WK destroys this faction fast. Doing quests for the evil guilds in the Qeynos sewers also lowers this faction. You can raise it back up by doing the second half of the gnoll fang quest which is turning the moonstones in to the bartender in the back room at Fishs Ale.

About 2 weeks ago I turned in the note to Capt. Tillin. The executioner was dispatched to execute McNeal Jocub. I followed, as suggested. The bar crowd turned on me, I had SoW and zoned into NQ. Whenever they see me in Qeynos they attack me.. no biggie. But if I defend myself, the Corrupt Guards come to their aid. My 17 lvl Druid is also now KOS to the Corrupt Guards. I've been attacked by the baddie guards even when I'm inside a store. After I dl'ed the new July 25th patch, I logged in and started near the bank. I quickly proceeded to get attacked by ALL the guards.. Corrupt and Good. I died 3 times in the city before I managed to get my corpse to the Front Gate. My beleaguered Druid cast invis and SoW, ran thru Qeynos to the Gate. I grabbed my body and bound myself to SFG.. thank goodness for the bank in the new Jaggedpine Forest. This was a peculiar occurence as my faction with the Guards of Qeynos and the Merchants "couldn't possibly get any better". And Nope.. I haven't killed anyone I shouldn't have. The 5+ cha medal might be worthwhile somewhere else, but it won't be worn in Qeynos again...lol.

hhhmmm.... seems to me that if the gnoll skull is the gnasher skull then you don't have to kill gnasher to complete quest.... Elites drop gnoll skulls about 10% of the time. I used that one and did the quest really quick

Where and When?
# Apr 15 2002 at 11:46 PM Rating: Default
Two things. One, Does anybody know about where and at what time this gnoll spawns? I camped in Qeynos Hills for ten hours (Game Time) in the same spot I came across him before and never Saw him. I know he comes at night but I never saw him once, just a bunch of scouts that wouldn't go away.

Second. Would it not be possible to get the note from Jocub McNeal in Fish's and take it directly to Surefall Glade? The note is easily acquired, just ask Jocub, "Low on what?" and he gives you the quest. Just be careful as to how many times you tick off the Circle of Unseen Hands. They've suddenly started discriminating against religion rather than class.

Turning in the head is unnecessary - I turned in only the note and received the Medal of Merit. The head is now a part of my collection along with Rungupp's and Corflunk's.

I commented earlier but cannot find the post to add this to, but here goes. I am a 10 level Necro and beat him down like I would a rat. I was knocking out the 3 pops near the hut (south side and out from BB entrance), after looting I was going back to the other side of hut to get the other 3 pops and there he was. Conning dark blue I took him out fast and easy with a dark blue pet. He only dropped the head (no note). Sorry dont know the game time and have ran around this area many times for the fangs and never seen him before so I dont think there is a placeholder or a need to clear the area.

As a 10 level Necro Erudite with a dark blue pet I nixed him pretty fast. He was hitting for 9 average and only dropped the head (no note). I am indifferent to most in SFG but the Millers outside are KOs to me. Am I able to get this quest?

As a ranger I track him down. He is often located close to the store on road from Surefall to Queynos. On the West side of the road. If you have trouble finding him, ask a ranger for help.

ok to clear up the gnasher thing. I have cought him outside of BB at around 1am. idk if it is every night but i saw him there more times that i can count at that time. It is good to do for lowbies cuz the medal of merit raises ur charisma so those useless things u loot will be worth a little bit more. i have heard that u give the medal to a guy in the catacombs named, "the mumbling idiot". and he will give u his lvl 50 pet to play with while in the catacombs. but idk.. just a rumor. ok well i hope this helped

He spawns at night only, and con's yellow to my poorly equipped L7 Ranger.
RE: Time
# Sep 04 2001 at 3:48 AM Rating: Default
I have to just mention something because I've heard too many people do this... you say "cons yellow to my poorly equipped lvl 7 ranger" and I've heard people say things like "cons blue to a 52 paladin" The cons are simply your level difference. The game doesn't calculate your chances by compiling all the equipment and spells you have at your disposal and analyze your ability to kill the target, it only reflects the difference in level. If it's green, it's about 5 or more levels less than you, if it's blue, it's 1-4 levels or so below you, if it's white, it's the same level as you, if it's yellow, it's 1 or 2 levels above you and if it's red, it's 3 or more levels above you... if your level 7 ranger had a wurmslayer or a yak, a fungi tunic, and a bunch of other uber items, gnasher is still going to con yellow to you. Just thought I'd rant about something stupid, not meaning to harass you or mock you, just letting you and everyone else know how it works. :)

LOL
/em shakes his head at the silly newbs

Also as you get higher the level range in which a MOB can be dark blue will get bigger and bigger, I believe. There is also of course the light blue group of MOB's now, that give the exp message when killed, but I think it's more of a joke. Maybe if you killed a hundred of them your bar might move, lol.

# Jun 04 2001 at 7:20 AM Rating: Default
I understand he comes out at night, but does anyone know approximately at what time? Also, are the Gnolls, Pups, Watchers, etc placeholders for him (ie, kill more of them to make him spawn)?

Thanks.
Easy Quest
# May 01 2001 at 4:39 PM Rating: Default
Done this quest about 4 times or so. Gnasher spawns outside or near BB you kill im and bring the stuff to Larsk(Gnasher doesnt always have the Scroll). Give Larsk the stuff and you get rawhide cloak(4AC) and the note back. I am a ranger so my faction was good. Give the note to Captain Tillin in qeynos and get the merit voila. you have it. You get a +5 Cha piece for your neck which is better than a silver cats eye agate. Juton will also give you info if you faction is good about the gnoll brewers.
Broken?
# Apr 11 2001 at 5:33 AM Rating: Default
Is this quest broken? First of all, I couldn't even get the quest from Larsk, and secondly, when I did give him Gnasher's head he just gobbled it down without even a thank you.

OK so everyone doesn't know that if your faction is bad you can't do quests with whatever faction is bad. Now you know, and you are for the better now! Never ever give stuff away to an NPC unless you know for a fact that they will receive it correctly!

Here is a tip to do before turning stuff in for a quest. ASK THE PERSON ABOUT THE QUEST FIRST, if they don't tell you about it, they will not exept it.
RE: Broken?
# Sep 05 2001 at 12:23 PM Rating: Default
This is not always true, as i have had 2 chars in highpass hold who gave scalps to the captains at each end and recieved faction and exp. Neither captain replies when hailed at all though, so don't give absolute information like that when you obviously aren't absolutely sure, since you've now been proven wrong.
RE: Broken?
# Oct 04 2001 at 1:36 PM Rating: Default
I have NEVER gotten ANY quest done without being able to talk to the person. They will accept the item without giving you anything in return if you don't have the faction, period. Now, how much faction is needed depends on the quest and those giving the quest. For me? I'll just alliance him to make him amiable and get the quest anyway with my 14th level chanter.... hee hee!

you must not have tried very many times - lots of NPC's will respond to giving them stuff even if they dont tell you about the quest when you hail them. I just wouldnt try it unless the stuff your giving them is pretty easy to replace. if they just take it and say "thanks for your meagre gift" you wont be out hours of camping.
