After completing the Ethereal Cleansing quest, you will receive a Glowing Black Skull Necklace.

You say, 'Hail, Millius Darkwater'

Millius Darkwater lifts his sword out of the water at his feet and scans his eyes across you. 'Hello, ______. The waters stir angrily today. Prexus is not pleased at the tarnishing of his waters by the spawn of Innoruuk. The Deepwater Knights have been trying to locate this [place] for many years.'

You say, 'What place?'

Millius Darkwater says 'The legends of Broken Skull Rock have been whispered for years. Indeed several of our greatest vessels were lost while in search of this island. Many of our [knights] died trying to cleanse Prexus' waters of this great Evil.'

You say, 'What knights?'

Millius Darkwater says 'Most recently a Cavalier named Chester Steelblade went in search of the legend. He was gone at sea for months before we received word from him. The letter we received spoke of a map that he'd found as well as a somewhat cryptic reference to having found the [key] to Broken Skull Rock. One of our [clerics] took a small group out in search of him, but we have received no news from either group.'

You say, 'What key?'

Millius Darkwater says 'He didn't give any more information about the key, but we're sure that he must have found something that led him here. We have found no sign of him or his crew yet. Truthfully it would be a miracle if he were still alive. I follow his path in hopes that I can continue his work where he left off. If he is dead then his spirit may yet linger here. Tied to this world by his unfinished task.'

Intermediate dialogues needed.

Give Millius the Glowing Black Skull Necklace and he'll tell you that you still haven't found Chester.

To find Chester: Zone in to Dulak's Harbor, go into the lighthouse and into the secret passage. Go straight until you come to an "octopus bridge" (you'll know what it is when you see it). Mid-way across the bridge there is a branch that goes to the right. Take that branch. At the end of this tunnel you will see a stone-brick entrance with some steps down into a passage. This is where you want to be, just before the steps (p1404, n416).

Chester Steelblade spawns in the far right corner in front of you (about an hour long spawn). He does have a place holder, so keep the area free of MOB's (they were mostly dark blue Luggalds, at Level 52).

You say, 'Hail, Chester Steelblade'

A soft glow fills the cavern as an ethereal form begins to form in front of you. The stern face of a middle aged Erudite forms from the swirling mists and begins to speak to you. 'Find the key to Brokenskull and free me from my torment.'

Give him the Glowing Black Skull Necklace.

Chester Steelblade twitches as the necklace touches the ethereal form. You feel unfamiliar hands in your packs, but before you can check them, the stern face of the ghost turns into a snarl. The spirit's hands dart forward and take hold of your throat with an unholy strength.

You receive Spell: Light of Life. He will then attack you. Deal with him as you wish (note: He is undead) and be on your way.

on AB-Server, I had no problems to join my way trough the secred
entrance in the wooden wall. joined the way along the tunnel and
moved into the secound tunnel to the right.
the location (p1404, n416) is correct, chester where "waiting" for
me left to the stairs. you can easily pacify the mob beside him and
then take him down. be sure to have some hot-/ and skinspike-potions
with you.
on lv 55 with 1200 ac, he hit 140 hp max. got my spell right after
turn in.
Not worth it.

This place is still bugged, the hidden "entrance" WILL force you to get stuck, you cannot cast, attack or anything just stuck while creatures pound you to death. I tried to get into the caves with my 52 pally and things kept aggro on me. They also were capable of healing themselves so when you got them down to say 30% life they would heal to 45-50% and then something would walk up and aggro. You need a group to get in these caves. Don't be stupid. I give up on this one as I de-leveled 2 times.

This entrance is still messed up. Folks saying NOT to climb the rocks are correct. You will get stuck.

However, if you go too far LEFT from the rocks and try to enter there, you will get stuck ducking on the left wall inside the secret entrance as well! Once that happens, you cannot correct within the secret tunnel, you have to come all the way back out and try again. It took me about 5 tries to get through cleanly, barely to the left of the rocks. This really needs to be fixed.

Yes I do agree, the place is not the lighthouse and this needs to be updated. The actual place is in the luggald caves in the north part of Dulak Harbor. A map helps to find the exact entrance to the tunnels.
Anyway, myself and a 55 chanty worked our way from the zone entrance at gunthak to the stairs where Chester spawns. Just take it slow, one at a time mobs, don't try to run through and get a whole trail of mobs on ya and expect to turn in the necklace or even expect him to be there and not one of his PH's. Went to the location noted above and waited, kept area clear of mobs while waiting, when chester spawned he just stood at the bottom toward the front... not in the back right corner... I walked up handed it to him, and he turned undead and we proceeded to take him down. Instrument of Nife was proc'ing like crazy and he went down fairly easy, but never let up on a named mob, hit them with everything you got. Once done, took the easy way out and invis'd back to zone line.
In my opinion you don't need a whole huge group of people, if you know how to work your pally at level 52 and have say a chanty, then things go fine. A partner with a pet I would say is prolly the best thing. But yes learn to use your heals and stuns and bash to limit the hits on yourself and also to keep yourself alive, this quest tests that ability well, and if you're at this level and you haven't learned the class that well, then you need to go practice it before you get higher levels, because this becomes crucial and your nukers and healers will thank you for it later.
Good Luck and I wish you all success on this quest though.
Oh and for those who say this spell isn't worth it, I have used this spell quite a bit in just the three hours I had it, and let me say, greater healing, ethereal cleansing, light of life, and lay on hands, yeah you're pretty much gonna survive most things, ... and don't forget you do have Divine Aura, use it.

Secret Tunnel bugged
# May 02 2005 at 9:54 AM Rating: Default
Just a warning to those trying to get throught the secret tunnel to see Chester, the entrance and exit to the tunnel suffer from a bug which makes you become stuck in the wall and unable to get out. I have reported this as of the stamp on this post, and am waiting for a reply. Until then, be VERY careful doing this quest, and expect to die...

This part of the quest is in Dulak's Harbor not Gunthak. After you zone in follow the path to the left (invis helps and you can buy cloudy potions at the lighthouse). There is a wooden wall blocking the north. You will see an opening with a pile of rocks leading up to it. As of Oct 20, 2005 you can still get stuck if you try to get into the tunnel where the rocks are stacked against the wall. You can climb up the rocks and fall and get stuck between the rocks and the wall. This is NOT the secret passage into the tunnel. The secret passage is to the left of the rocks. Either download the map from EQtoolbox.com and use it to locate the secret passage into the tunnel, or start at to the left of the pile of rocks and slowly move left while trying to advance north. Keep invis up and run north to the bridge that looks like octopus tentacles. Turn right and and follow the path. Chester is down this arm of the tunnel. Good luck.

I thought this quest was still broken but apparently they changed it.

To do this quest right here are things to remeber.

1 after you get the black Madallion take it to Millis.

2.Stay in Gunthak an go to the south wall that wall you kill the undead near the bank an Move away from there. go near the middle.Eventualy an erudite spirit will spawn. If your right where he spawns he WONT spawn. he will spawn at the 3 stones.Move away from there.

3.If there are any other An Erudite Spirit an there not male Kill them.

4.Once you get the him hand the item to him an go back to Millis an return the necklace.which is a Glowing Batskull necklace.

5.THEN take that to Chester Stormblade in Dulak's Harbor.See quest Light of Life.

This was NOT exspained in the post made.where many of you have tried this quest before an just took the necklace to Chester an got your Spells an he handed you back 2 scrolls with both spells. you luck bastards. This quest was changed recently without posting. This is the new quest as it should be anounced.

yeah, bad info guy.

An Erudite Spirit (Male) spawns in the SE Corner of Gulf of Gunthak (SE from the female spirit)

An Erudite Spirit (Female) spawns a little NW from the SE corner of the beach by the large wreckage on the East side of it.

Both mobs have place holders, which is a skeleton sailor typically (never seen different)

Myth: You can't stand near spawn point to get spirit to pop
Fact: Mobs pop whether you are standing there or not

Myth: Female / Male spirit won't spawn if the other one is up
Fact: Both mobs can be (and usually are) up at the same time.

Hope this clears things up, I will add to this post once i have finished the second half of the quest to get the Light of Life.

Spawned for me while I was just paces away from him, near the old ship with 3 spawns in the corner. Keep everything in the area clear from the red NPC you can kill to the wall, to the other ship. Took us about 3 hours to spawn him.

I helped my buddy get his spell... we waited at the top of the stairs... didn't have to wait all that long either, the ghost came to us from the room... turned it in, and evaced him and I out... got both spells rather easily.

This part of the quest was fun.

First I ran my Druid over to Dulaks to see if Chester was up on tracking. Finding that he was, I camped and brought over my Paladin.

I buffed, charged up my JBoots, invised normally using potions (NOT invis to undead)and ran down the cave. It's easy to get turned around in here but just remember to keep to the left until you come to the bridge.

In the middle of the bridge is a turnoff to your right. As you turn right here, you'll see two Emissary's of Hate standing on either side of the path, and another two on either side of the stairs.

I found Chester at the bottom of the stairs inside a room filled with more mobs of Innoruuk.

I was still invis and everything was conning indifferent. Just as I was about to enter the room, Chester started to move up towards the steps (he's the only "Spirit" in the area that I saw). I did the turn-in at the top of the staircase in between the two sets of mobs. As soon as I did, invis popped, and I had a few of the mobs start attacking, including Chester (who conned red to me at 55). But there on my pointer was the spell.

With invis down, I started running out of the caves the same way I came in only now I was aggroing every mob that I passed. I /ooc'd a couple of times about the train but didn't stop to look back. I was later told it was considerable size.

Even with all of the attacks, I still only lost 22% health. With Buffs, JBoots or Sow, this turn-in can be easily accomplished solo. Even at lower levels, you can use Divine Aura to buy you some time on the way out and/or keep LOH up just in case and you can still make it out alive without a problem. The run to the zone line is not far, just be courteous to the other players and give 'em a warning of the impending train.

Thanks to my 56 Enchanter Friend for helping to camp the first part of this quest. I find the spells to be very useful as I tend to solo quite a bit anyway.

It was fun and got a decent bit of experience for it as well. If anyone on the Luclin server wants help for this thing, just give a yell.

Did the hand-in to Chester this morning.

My party of 5 under-60 PCs invised through the tunnel. Luckily, invis held for the whole run to Chester's camp.

As suggested elsewhere, I made the hand-in with my Inventory window open. The window closed automatically after the hand-in, I had to reopen Inventory to drop the spell.

The fight with Chester and 1 add took about 3 minutes. Myself, a 52 Pally, and a 59 Warrior were the only ones damaging the mobs. The cleric healed. The druid was a 2-box port *****. The mage sat until Chester was at 10% and nuked him for the hell of it.

Done. Port to PoK. Zoom out and watch cool casting effects. ;->

Best regards,

Tim ==

Was doing this last nite, and it was getting late, so we figured to stick around a couple more pops and if he spawned during a battle, I would "peel off" battle, turn in necklace, get spell and we would all hot-foot it to zone.

Well, this happened... during a battle, I see "HES UP!" So, as agreed, I leave battle, go to turn in. Open inv, grab necklace, click it on him, it opens trade...

and I hit him just as I clicked Trade..

I didnt turn off Attack.. and clicking him made him target..

Don't do this.
You lose necklace, and get no spell.

I Just completed this quest, The person that said it was easy he just soloed it must have been lvl 58+ !!!!! I was a lvl 52 pally and a lvl 55 pally helped me before we even got to the bridge the lvl 55 pallys invse fell for some strange reason. we had 6 on us and for a while i thought there is now way. But when the dust cleared, Lvl 55 pally which had 80% of the mobs had to use LoH, i was down to 25% and he was down to 35% HP.

That saved us in the long run but it sure hurt doing it.

Once we got down to the Bridge and stopped om the middle of the bridge he told e to take a right and at the bottom of the path the ghost would be thier. MAKE SURE your close to the ghst before you give him your necklace and DONT DROP INVSE Before you give it to him. Thier are 2 mobs hiden beside him. I wasnt close enoough i kept trying to give my necklace to the ghost but it wouldnt give cause i was to farm mean while im getting hit. once i gave the neacklace to the ghost i had 3/4 hp left, np, i put the spell in my bag and RAN. The lvl 55 ran our ahead of me to take most of the train but that didnt make it easy, for 45 sec we go lost at the invse wall that you have to go thru, you know where he lost invise the first time. By the time we found the way i was down to 2% and the lvl 55 pally was down to 10%. We were getting nuked and hit from all sides, i used my LoH on myself anf he led me to the exit of the zone safe and intact. Now he was down to 6%

This isnt what i call easy , i had 3 AA points into innate running, so my running speed was Good, you at least need Sow or AA Running points. Dont try to do this with only 1 AA in Running. you might find yourself being a bit slow.

Give your self room for mistakes, they are Bound to happne if you havent scouted the area and KNOW THE WHOLE WAY COMPLETELY before trying this... Had we known the the path inside and out we may have had a easy time with this but due to his invse dropping and my lack of exp with the path, Bth made this trip VERY leathal. Still we madeit alive. HAVE Divine Aura up incase of a Rainy day. I had mine up incase i thought i wasnt going to make it after my LoH!
very easy

Last night, I grouped with a 52,51, and 50 pali, along with a 52 wizzy, 48 druid, and 51 ranger. All 3 of the palis needed the spell...however we didnt want to wait for the respawn of chester. It was decided that the 52 pali would go first as he is the one that could use the spell immediately. I would be next, at 51 and finally the 50 pali. We worked out way back down to the stairs...killing everything in the way...I could say a group of this much firepower may have been to much..but then again, to much is better than not enough. Pali #1 ungrouped thinking since hw wasnt in the group, we wouldnt have to worry about agro. When pali #1 turned in, I tried as he was attacking pali #1...Chester would no accept my medallion. Didnt think he would...but thought I would try. Ranger rooted chester...and druid...evac'd us out...The problem was Pali #1 wasnt in the group...dead pali. Druid said it was accidental...and didnt mean to evac us. Well we went back, rezzed pali...and tried again. My turn. We go back..no degrouping..I turn in..run back to group..and evac. No problem, no hitches. Did it a third time with 3rd pali. No problems. *One note. When giving him the medallion...leave your inventory window open. I was unable to run with spell in hand...and in that short time to bring up window and put it in a slot..he and his friend that came out of no where hit me pretty good.

The secret wall is located at p518, n42 - turn left after entering Dulaks from Gunthak and you'll see a pile of rocks on a wood wall. The false wall is to the left of those rocks.

I have seen chester on both sides of the stairs so as long as you kill both you should make hime spawn. Alos becareful because on the left side a Luggald will aggro on you from the room in the bottom.
RE: Chester
# May 18 2003 at 11:57 PM Rating: Default
That luggald, that Talosak mentions above, can also be a PH for Chester. Almost every luggald near or around this steps is a PH. I've even seen Chester spawn in the room below. If you are worried he might be down there, use Sense the Dead. He is undead and will be picked up by it.

Light of Life is an awesome spell. Congrats to all that have it, and good luck to all those that need it. I replaced GH (and probably won't use Sup Heal) with it. 1.5 sec cast for 410 with very little recast time. It truly is a life saver.
