You say, 'Hail, Grennik Neltrin'

Grennik Neltrin says 'Hello. Have you been exploring the island? I came here to discover the secrets of the Broken Skull trolls but I have yet to even explore the island. Rumors that their high priest Nadox held the power to cure any disease have been drifting around Norrath for some time. I've come to see if the rumors are true. Unfortunately the island is much more dangerous than I had imagined and I haven't found anything useful. If you find anything having to do with the troll High Priest, please bring it to me.'

  • Combine a Blackened Vial, Broken Skull Clan Blood and Gunthak Gulf Water in a brew barrel to make a Black Potion (no fail).
  • Combine the Black Potion with some Pure Blood (again in a brew barrel) to make a Glowing Black Potion (no-fail).

Upon handing the potion to Grennik:

You gain experience!!

Grennik Neltrin holds the vial carefully between her fingers as she spins it slowly in the light. 'Yes I believe the potion is complete now. Of course we can never be certain until one of us drinks it. Since you prepared it would stand to reason for you to try it.'

She lifts the dark potion towards ______ and ______ reaches out and takes it from her. ______ takes a deep breath and brings the potion to his lips. The smell nearly makes him faint, but he regains his composure and swallows it in one giant gulp.

You are suddenly filled with dark warmth as the potion slides down into your stomach. You can almost sense it invading your body, battling with your defenses. You stomach turns as the venom and blood mixes in your stomach and you fight the urge to pass out. You focus all of your energy on combating the poison inside you and your body begins to turn the venom. Eventually the poison grows silent inside you and only a slight warmth is left in its place. You have conquered the poison.'

Clerics and Druids receive the Spell: Pure Blood while Shaman receive the Spell: Blood of Nadox.

Pure Blood?

It was an interesting drop. was bard kitin in the large room north of the luggards, and it did not drop for a good 6-7 hours, then it dropped off of almost every mob, looted 12 in less then 30 min. Really wierd i think!

Three of the Four parts needed for the pure blood quest drop in nadox. The entrance to Gunthak i suggest is reached in the following manner: After zoning into Gunthak levitate and invis and start floating toward the beach that is off to your left. You will want to follow the right wall as soon as you get to the beach into a cave area. Invising past the mushrooms plants and drogmoors in the caves you should see a leftside opening from the caves, Ignore this for now and continue on until you get the Second Left which you will follow until you see a thin opening in the cave wall. Travel through this opening to reach some troll guards and what seems to be a large expanse of lava, this is the nadox lava river zone in. Described henceforth is how to get to the camps in Crypt of Nadox assuming you entered from the caves entrance in Gunthak through the lava river. Invis up and swim past the fire elementals and run up the right wall. To your right is the troll temple areas to your left across bridge is the luggard(blue alien looking guys) areas. The first camp should yield you 2 of the 3 drops in zone. Keeping invis you should see some furious and vehement blackhands, these drop the [broken skull clan blood] component. Invis past them into the hall beyond the high ceiling area. Stop before you reach the Adherants area which also spawns the named Dulein. Adherants and Dulein phers are casters and drop the [a blackened vial] component. From this camp situated between the casters in front of you, and the blackhand melee mobs behind you you should be relatively safe to begin. The casters heal occasionally and are mostly shamans but beware of them gating back to their spawn. The named Dulein has a chance of dropping int caster items, gloves are common, enchanter clicky belt uncommon, FT1 shoulders rare. The melee camp has a chance of spawning blackhand lietenants which drop a caster candle and rune procing melee weapon. Various mobs in these sections also drop a nodrop text, describing the pureblood quest, which tells you you are in the right place to camp the components.

Now for the luggard component, you must head back to the lava river. Passing over the bridge(remembering you must be invis) you can head into the very center passageway into the luggard area. Various luggard devices are inside the cave that follows you should head across the center of the room towards the far passageway which should have 2 luggard guards standing before it. Heading past the guards the passageway slopes downward into the undead area, if you reach the undead you have gone too far. The camp is in that passageway, it is a safe spot with no wanderers. Pull luggards from inside the room you passed to get to the passageway. Abominations and Initiates seem to drop the [Pureblood] but not often, you may also get luggard hearts used in a wizard spell quest. Rarely charms and low end gear drops off these mobs as well. The troll treasure sorter and wandering undead that comes into the center of the room do not drop the components for the pureblood quest.

Now that you have the 3 components from Nadox the easy part awaits you in gunthak. You require some [Gunthak Gulf Water] which is acquired in two ways. You can forage it from Gunthak OR you can get it dropped from mobs in gunthak cave. If you choose to forage it it is nodrop so your race/class must have the ability to forage for itself. For those clerics and shamans with none foraging ability you must go back into the caves of gunthak. If you recall above directions, there was a First Left inside the caves on the way to nadox, this is where you must now go in order to camp the gulf water. It drops semi-commonly off Pillagers in the pirate base. These are much lower level mobs that those encountered in nadox and if you could get the nadox drops these should not be a problem. Seems to have a higher drop rate off the Ogre Pillagers which also happen to be placeholders for the named in this camp.

Assuming you now hold the Blackened Vial, Gunthak Gulf Water, and Broken Skull Clan Blood you can now complete the first combine of the quest. It is a brewing combine which can be done at the lighthouse area next to the quest npc. It will yield a Black potion(trivial 71). This Black potion you then combine with the Pure Blood to receieve Glowing Black Potion which is nofail. This you give to Grennik the quest npc to receive your blood spell.

I would just like to point out, that after camping the red-bandana bloodguards in Torgiran's Mines for a few hours, we gave up and went to Nadox.

At the castle where you find the Luggald initiates and the abominations, we camped and killed everything in there for 7 hours. No pure blood dropped.

Lol I love posts like this ... I always get the feeling you want EQ to stop and Acknowlege the fact that you hit every drop table and had Sweet success for drop rate and completed this in a much faster time than it took the actual creator of the quest to dream up.

I just wanna reach out and touch your UBBERNESS. With the biggest idiot hammer I can find. Get a Clue ... you were just very lucky ... yes you finished in remarkable time ...take your BOW and leave.

Feel free to flame me ... correct my punctuation .. and grammer as I really don't mind. Cuz I came ... I saw ... and spilled my lore and won't be back here again.

I have done this quest 3 times (for my shm, clr, and dru) and I can tell you the drop rate is very random. I must have killed 150 black hands before i got the first drop, and then the next 2 drops occurred with in the next 20 or so mobs. The final drop came from the furious blackhand that wanders the hallway.

I got all three blackened vials in less than 20 adherrant kills.

I killed about 50 abomination/initiatives and got very little to drop at all from them, then all of a sudden I had 2 pure bloods and 2 of the drops for the Luggald flesh quest. Have killed another 12 or so abomination/initiatives and still waiting for the last pure blood.

While they should check they're on the right mobs, saying your quest took half an hour is hardly proving your point. Ask around and see how long most people have camped this. Two hours of killing Gunthak mobs so far, and not one drop. Took us forever to get the Nadox ones, too.

Don't assume that your one situation is the norm. Both of your recounts, and probably mine, are on the far end of the spectrum of situations.

I spent about 2 hours killing Luggalds and got mine, however, I was doing it slowly, so speed needs to be taken into consideration.

The drop in Gunthak took me an inordinate amount of time however.

Took me less than 2 hours, lucky? dunno, difference in time might also be the fact if you do this solo as shaman (Can be done) or with a couple more chars. I did it with a 65 shammy / bard/cleric/ druid/ sk . We cleared very fast and had the items very fast.

We were able to get the "pure blood" to drop off both the Luggald initiates AND the abominations within the large center room to the west of the bridge.

We had a group of four with a 59 monk, cleric, a 55 shaman, and 52 ranger. The camp was very tough and the ranger died twice! For you shamans be aware that the luggalds absolutely hate our slows and get even angrier at poison dots. They also break root very easily and they hit hard and fast (around 130 double attacks on average).

Good hunting :)

Somewhere in my travels, I came across an item called "A torn scroll". It's a note, lore item, no drop. When you identify it, it identifies as "the book of Nadox page 129" and it is written in Troll. When you read it, it says the following:

"There may be only one way for me to find the way to pure blood. I must taste the poison if I am to cure it. The ore has been chiseled, and the essence of the black rock has been distilled with the water of Gunthak. Only one thing remains to be added, the gift of blood. The scourge will flow in me and through me and I will conquer it. The potion is ready. I must prepare. I wll face the toxin tonight."

I'm a lore junkie, so figured some of you might like to know where the combine instructions came from....

Make sure you kill the level 50 Broken Skull Initiates. I spend over 2 hours killing the green con ones lol =P. The Black Potion dropped the first time I killed a dark blue con one. Other two dropped on first kill also lol. Easy quest all Priest classes should do this quest.

Well I got this spell as a shaman a few weeks ago. It's invaluable for killing Babnoxis the Spider Queen in PoFire, also the big croc in PoEarth. Both have a nasty AE DoT, with a shaman in each of the key groups in your raid, ie:the groups you really can't afford to let ppl die in, as soon as you get the dot you can cure your whole group. First time we tried these mobs, I was using disinfecting aura. By the time I cured the 6th guy in my group it was time to cure the 1st.

So anyway today I was helping a Druid in my guild do the quest, she looted all the gear, then I took her to the brew barrel. She did the combines, then I showed her the NPC by targeting and hailing. She handed in the Glowing potion and recieved the spell. However I also got the Shaman version appear on my cursor. So it can be multiquested it seems.

Yes, it is definitely worth doing, ESPECIALLY if you are a shaman. This spell cures 18 counters of both poison and disease in a single casting. It will also remove some tash and slows if anyone in your group gets hit with it. ALSO, it comes in very handy against the AE's used by some mobs like Grummus, for example.

Why should a shaman in particular do this? Because druids and clerics get a single target version of the spell, but when a shaman does the quest, the shaman gets a spell that affects the entire group. MUCH more useful.

Another reason to get this spell as a shaman...
The 2nd-to-last mob a rogue needs to take out for his epic 1.5 quest has a terrifying AE that gives everyone on the hate list 50 poison counters, and a 30-second DoT followed up by a 32k death touch. Even though there are other, less efficient, ways to get through this encounter, any rogue that wants his epic 1.5 needs to have a SHAMAN with THIS SPELL in every single group on his raid force or that group will die in about 30 seconds. If you have any rogue friends, they will need you for this. Even if you don't have rogue friends, a shaman with this spell is so hard to find for many rogues, that they will often be willing to pay dearly for your help. Trust me on this, i'm a rogue, and I have been blocked for months from finishing my epic 1.5 because I can't find enough shaman with this spell. I'm getting desperate now.

You underestimate the power of the soloing shaman. I did this quest solo at 56 without trouble, the luggalds may hit hard but keeping two rooted and rotting was no great challenge.
Single?
# Dec 12 2003 at 4:11 AM Rating: Default
You will need a group, for all except the Gunthak Water part. The pure blood drops off the Luggalds in Nadox, who are darkblue to 65, and you will not be able to singlepull them.

The other parts that drop in Nadox, can be found quickly as you move towards the Nautilus room, on the right shore of the lava river, moving along the south tunnel.

Well Just an addition neg 1082, pos 387 was a safe pull spot for the Broken Skull Initiates & Adherents.. it was the hardest drop to get took me 6 hours overall and most of it was for that one drop. Also while I was there, a furious blackhand when killed popped a Crew Chief Hanriesaf. Don't know if this is normal, but happend at that time. Pack a lunch cause this is a long quest. drop rates are slow.
A Walkthrough for The Blood Quest
# Jul 28 2003 at 1:35 AM Rating: Excellent
Ok, completed this quest today, all in all it wasn't too tough, as far as quests go. I thought it was a little rough for a 51st level spell, but you can judge for yourself...

The easiest component by far was the Gunthak Gulf Water off of a Human Pillager in the fort in Gunthak. (note: Not the collection of huts right before the Dulak zone, but the fort that, on the map, is directly south of the beach area) The chanter in our group got so excited she accidentally looted the first Gunthak Water we got. No biggie, we got another off of an Erudite Marauder 2 kills later. I don't know if we got extremely lucky? We only killed about 15 mobs, it was waaaay easier than reported.

Got the pure blood off of A Luggald Abomination. This also seemed fairly easy. Me (54 cleric), a 53 Warrior and a 38 Chanter set in to kill Luggalds. We could take them, but it was really touch and go. After about 15 of them, we decided to get more firepower. We added a 55 bard, a 55 SK and a 54 Shm. After our group got there, we killed 6 more of them (they went down much easier), and got 2 pure bloods out of those 6 kills. So much for needing more firepower...
To kill the Luggalds just go across the bridge in Nadox, and keep heading west till you come to the room with all the Luggalds in it. If you go straight across that room, there's another hallway (on the west side of the Luggald room) that you can sit in. We sat here for an hour or two, very safe spot to camp in. This was by far the 2nd easiest component to obtain, even though the Luggalds hit really hard (150 per hit, 2 or 3 times a round) and have lots of hps. Melee only at least.

The third component, and almost the hardest to obtain was the Broken Skull Clan Blood. We got this from a furious Blackhand. The best way we found to get this was to sit in the bridge room, on the north side, just east of the lava flow. We'd pull Furious Blackhands and Vehement Blackhands from the room on the south side of that cavern. We went through quite a few Blackhands (perhaps 50 or more?) before we got the Blood. Luckily, they were wusses. Only about 40th - 45th level or so, they went down like wet rags after the Luggalds. We were there probably 3 or 4 hours. We did, however, get some decent gear in this camp:

Ceremonial Hate Candle
(Wis +5, Int +5, Hps +25, Mana +30, Sv D +8, Sv P +8, All Race, Casters and Healers only, Primary/Secondary) off of some Lieutenant in the Blackhand room. We got three of these Candles.

Hate Forged Pauldrons
(AC 5, Dex +8, Wis +8, Int +8, Hps +20, Sv D +5, Sv P +5, once again, All Races, Casters and Healers only, Shoulders) off of the normal furious / vehement blackhands. Got two of these.

Bracelet of the Spiritchamer
(AC 12, Str +7, Wis +5, Hps +15, Mana +15, Sv D +7, Sv P +7, All Races, Rng, Rog, Shm only)
Off of some named Spiritchamer guy wandering around east of the bridge. His PH is the wanderer you hafta kill to pull from the blackhand room across the firepit to the safe spot mentioned above. Only got 1 of these, and the Shaman in the group had gone LD earlier, you snooze you looze....

And last but not least, the Blackened Vial. This was really tough because our group had started wandering away and all we were left with was Me (54 cleric again, the 53 Warry, now 39 chanter, and a 56 SK) We found this off of a Broken Skull Adherent. There are tons of them located a little south of the Blackhand room, and these babies are tough! They hit like trains (double or triple for 155), cast (shamans) and gate when low. Our little group could barely manage them. We usually had to wait for me (cleric) to get full again after each battle. Luckily none of them resisted pacify, although the Warry did bite it once because Pacify wore off early. Even more luckily, we only had to kill about 15 of em to get the Vial. Good thing too, it was becoming a time consuming, trying camp. No pHaT L33t off of these guys that we found, although I betcha they drop some, they gotta, as hard as they are, eh?

Went back to the lighthouse, found Grennik (just NW of the lighthouse in one of the little huts) and used the brew barrel right next to her hut to combine the stuff. I have a brewing of 177, and didn't fail any of the combines (thank god). Turned in the final glowing black potion and now I have Pure Blood. Hopefully it works as advertised. Those spiders in velks owe me at least one after battle death.

Edit: Ok, after all that, I went to velks, and this spell DOES NOT remove deadly velium poison. Thanks Verant, or SOE, or whomever I'm sposed to cuss at.....

After checking the spell info for Deadly Velium Poison, it seems that it doesnt use poison counters.. so unfortunately no help from Blood of Nadox. But.. this will be great for AE Slows or Tashes.

You might try using an Cancel Magic on the Velium Poison.. other than that I'd bet AA Radiant Cure for its Remove Detrimental effect should work.

You did a very nice job on the walkthru. It will help me a great deal I believe. ;-}

This also drops of the Bloodguards near the entrance from Nadox or when coming from the Mines in the room with the abyss and the long bridge.
You should be able to single pull most with level around 60 because they are standing far away from each other. Hits are in the 150ish HP 10-12K

Does the Broken Skull Clan Blood only drop in certain rooms? I can't get a decent enough group to take on the blackhand room near the lava bridge area, so I've been in the maze area soloing Furious Blackhands (I read that they drop it as well as the Vehement ones) for like 3 days now. It's listed as a common drop, but all i've got from my kills is weapons and loose change (nice change tho, hehe). Is it only the mobs in one particular room that drop this stuff?

Im not sure how helpful it is in preventing this sort of action, but I just reported him at the outwar website as a spammer. Posting his link here and attempting to trick people into clicking through false advertising are both against the outwar rules. If you'd like to report him you can at this link

Tormentx, you should not post on these boards if you're going to only do stupid outwar links. This site has nothing to do with that site. If you cannot contribute constructively, kindly, STFU.

I am almost sorry you are so desperate.

First of Grennik Neltrin is in little house near windmill on dock in Gulf of Gunthak at loc pos 1602, neg 60. There is a brewing barrel right next to him..I got 3 items from Crypt of Nadox fairly close to each other, Pure Blood off Luggold Initiate at loc pos 9, pos 1318 (this proved to be good pulling spot)..Blackened Vial off Broken Skull Initiate loc neg 1202, pos 378..Broken Skull Clan Blood off Vehment Blackhand at loc neg 138,pos 177..

The Gunthak Gulf Water off orge pillager near fort in Gunthak loc neg 1860, pos 58..

I didn't see post about no fail on combining so I spent a little time raising my brewing skills to 85. This wasn't a big thing and seemed to go fast.

None of these mobs seemed to see invis..Was easy to run around here..

I just finished this quest and wanted to add to already an excellent posts. The quest giver, Grennik Neltrin is at the second hut from the right facing from the light house. I believe the NPC was a she not he.

The pure blood was off luggolds. If you zone in and swim through the lava, get to the bridge and get up to the right. There are 3 tunnels, take the second one from left (middle tunnel) and there are luggolds there. I believe the drops are off any of them.

The other two item, Blackened vials and Broken skull Clan Blood are off random mobs on the right side of the bridge, opposite side of lava river from luggolds. The best place to camp was at the second zone in from Gunthak (not the one over the lava river) other side of the secret door in the maze. You can pull to behind the secret door and it was very easy pulls.

The Gunthak Gulf Water was the hardest part of this quest. It took me over 4 hours to have one drop. The best place is the as you enter the cavern where the fort is, just to the left. Three of us did AoE farming, about 6-8 at a time, for 3 hours and nothing. Next day i soloed for about an hour and got the drop off one of the DE, so I am pretty sure any mob can drop, it's just insanely rare.

Good luck, it's a nice spell to have.

The combine is no fail now thanks to a patch a couple weeks back. Go to the everquest website to read the old patch messages for proof.
