Talk to Gwen Lonnes

Gwen Lonnes can be found in Gulf of Gunthak between the lighthouse and the stables.

You say, 'Hail, Gwen Lonnes'

Gwen Lonnes swirls her leg around and nearly takes your head off with a powerful roundhouse kick. Apparently she doesn't like to be surprised while practicing her forms. 'What is it whelp, I have little time to waste speaking to weaklings. I must be in top form if I am to do battle with the pirates of Broken Skull, not to mention their fishy friends the [Luggalds].' She then turns back to her forms.

You say, 'What are the Luggalds?'

Gwen Lonnes whips her arm around and slashes it towards your face. It stops a mere inch squarely in front of your nose. 'You obviously just got off the boat, ______. Anyone who's been here more then a day knows about the Luggalds. Rumors say they are the new children of Innoruuk, created to serve their dark master in the aqueous lands of Norrath. Even now they sit in their caves deep within Broken Skull, weaving their magics and making plans to gather more relics of the old age. Few have seen what lies under their dark robes and lived to tell about it. Indeed the [robes] seem to have some sort of dark enchantment on them.'

You say, 'What robes?'

Gwen Lonnes says 'The dark cloth that the Luggalds wear is made with some manner of enchantment. It allows them much of the same protection that normally requires heavy armor. I hope to take a robe from one of them and possibly use it against them, but they are very cunning and have so far eluded me on my journeys on to the island. So far the only thing I've discovered that will cut though this odd fabric is glass. If I had some sections of robe and a glass shard, I might be able to fashion the robe into something quite useful.'

Part 1

Give Gwen A Sharp Glass Shard (off a Tavern Wench in either of the taverns in Dulak's Harbor) and A Torn Luggald Robe (off any luggald in the secret caves in Dulak's Harbor, robed or not). Both are rather rare drops.

You gain experience!!

Gwen Lonnes stops her practice cold as you show her the torn robe. She seems to be fairly impressed, but her words convey a different message. 'Where did you get this? You're trying to tell me you took it from a Luggald yourself? What, did you find one on a rotting corpse somewhere? Bah, whatever the method it is still somewhat useful. Not exactly a prime specimen, but it will do.' She takes the glass shard and begins to cut long sections of fabric from the robe. She takes several strands and begins to weave them into a sort of braid. She hands it to you when she's made a sizeable length of cord.

Gwen Lonnes says 'Here, place this around your neck and it should offer you some small bit of protection. As long as you're interested in scavenging, you might try to find a few [other things] for me as well.'

You receive a Dark Cord of Broken Skull.

You say, 'What other things?'

Gwen Lonnes says 'The Broken Skull clan has long used a special type of ink in their tattooing which is said to give them power in combat. I am curious to study the qualities of this ink. I have also seen several of the Shaman carry dark ore stones from time to time. I suspect that I may be able to tie the ink to the stone and hang it from that necklace I gave you to create a powerful amulet. Bring me a stone, ink and your dark cord and we shall see if the rumor of their power is true.'

Part 2

After you hand in the pieces for Part 1, she wants two additional items: A Vial of Broken Skull Clan Ink (Bloodguards in Torgiran Mines) and A Dark Ore Amulet (off various mobs in the Crypt of Nadox). Hand these in.

You gain experience!!

Gwen Lonnes takes the stone from you and dips her finger in the jar of ink. She then begins to mark runes all across the surface of the stone. She then takes the stone and hangs it from your dark cord and hands it back to you. 'I find it hard to believe you managed to do this ______, but I have kept my promise. I have either vastly overestimated the Luggalds or I have considerably understestimated you.'

You receive an Amulet of Dark Waters.

Also note that we've had 'A Dark Ore Amulet' drop off 'A Broken Skull acolyte' as well. So they don't just come off the Furious and Vehement Blackhands alone.

Dropped for my group in maybe about an hour of camping the blackhands. I'm not sure if this is the same spot as described by others:
Zone into Nadox castle entrance (not the lava entrance).

Invis up.

Head straight into the room, make a left, go up the hallway.

Now you have two choices, depending on how confident you are in your invis :)
1) take first right. Go down that hallway, turn left at first turn. Turn right at next turn, and there's the blackhands.
2) take the second right, head straight through a whole room full of mobs, keep going down that hallway until you see the blackhands.

Set up in hallway, you should rarely get a 2 pull, we got one 3 pull but that was about as bad as it gets. Set up near the doorway, so you don't get the one wanderer from behind.

Or, as many people do, run through the first room to a big room with a campfire, and set up there instead.

Amulet took maybe 3 clearings of that first room to get. The glass shard was the most stubborn of them all to drop. Robe dropped on 5th kill.

Torgiran's was tougher, the mobs are somewhat harder. But good steady experience pulling to zone line.
She ate the items ...

I turned them in with my wizard. Probably it would have been better if I were being something else, but my wizard was the one who had the items.

So, don't give the items unless you're a class that can use it -- her response to your "Hail" should give some indication. Faction, it seems, has no place in Ykesha; it's all about your class.

Hope this saves someone from repeating my mistake. I sure love this game. A lot. From the heart.

Shark Tavern the one over the water and on the right of the zone is best really for the shard - Xp is ok in htere up to 52/53 and the cash drops are good (bd's etc.) there is also a very weak named that spawns there as a bonus. Treat this as a xp camp - the shard is horribly rare - ie we have seen 1 so far in 2 weeks of 3 / 4 hours a night .

Robe - drops in secret caves - nowhere near a s rare and you cana lways pick up other bits while in there ( soulstripper - bits for emerald warrior charm - luggald flesh for the start of thr ring/weapon quest)

The real question :) is seeing as it takes so long do you really want to do it more than once ? and is the original neck better than the upgrade .

Dark Cord of Broken Skull
MAGIC LORE NO DROP
Slot: Neck
Dis: 10
Pos: 10
HP: 10
Effect: Haste (worn) (21%)
WT: 0.3 Size: Tiny
Class: WAR MNK ROG
Race: All

Amulet of Dark Waters
MAGIC LORE NO DROP
Slot: Neck
AC: 5
Str: 5
Sta: 5
HP: 15
Effect: Haste (worn) (24%)
WT: 0.3 Size: Tiny
Class: WAR MNK ROG

The cord as a resist item is good +10 to 2 of the harder ones to get. As a stat item the second one is weak 5ac 5 str 5 sta but it does have 5 hp more than original and 3% better haste.

Personally im leaning to keeping the original and not upgrading it . then i can drop my SCCH and use a decent stat / armour set of gloves .

has anyone gotten a sharp glass shard to drop recently? I have been camping Dulak for 4 nights straight, clearing out the non-shark tavern for about 3-4 hours straight. Averaging about 2-4 tavern wenches per pop set. I have killed over 50 of the tavern wenches and have not gotten even one glass shard to drop. I have even switched over to shark tavern when non-shark tavern had been cleared out.

Got shard today 8/8/04 in about 4 1/2 hours for my alt warrior. 63 ranger kept the whole tavern cleared, got 1900 plat in gems, weapons, and good exp for my other alt BL 46 (had warrior 21 camped there to loot)

Off to the luggalds

Sharp Glass Shard was the worst part of this definately, but the whole thing is worth it and all the information is correct.

Dark Ore Amulet looks like a Mithril Amulet. (big circle, not a necklace)

The sharp glass shard does drop, took about 9 hours total between 3 different nights. Not sure which tavern is which, we cleared the one with hole that leads to water several times with no luck. finally on 3rd night we went to the other tavern and it dropped off of the 1st "tavern wench" (i'm sure it was just luck)

The robe does exist, got it off the 2nd or 3rd luggald killed. (i'm sure i was lucky again).

Now on to finish quest.

Dropped recently for me also, but it was a long camp, so it is definitely a rare drop.

I'm on to the luggalds now, and the robe is proving to be just as rare...

As of 2/6/04, the glass shard does drop. Took many rounds of clearing the "warehouse" area of Dulak's to find it.

After getting the shard, however, we went over to the luggalds caves and basically did an entire cleanout of the caves and found no robe. Killed some of the re-pops on the way out, but decided to just skip it and come back later to finish it off.

The robe has always listed RNG as a usable class. However, to my knowledge nothing has changed and the final reward is WAR MNK ROG only.

The ink does drop, you just have to be patient & kill the bloodguard buggers.
I've destroyed quite a few inks myself, since I can't use them & there's usually no one else in the zone.

I can confirm that the sharp glass shard DOES drop from tavern wenches in the Hungry Shark also. We spent about an hour, killed at least a dozen wenches and the shard dropped from the wench spawn closest to the door of the Hungry Shark, just as Head Chef spawned ;)
MQed?
# Jul 20 2003 at 10:42 AM Rating: Default
Could this be MQed? I looted the robe on my Magician in one of my soulstealer camps. If I get a shard on my Monk, then turn the robe in with my Magician, then turn the shard in with my Monk, will I still get the haste item?

Yes, it is possible to MQ these items. A guild druid helped me with the glass shard that I hadn't been able to get and it worked perfectly.

The shard dropped after killing just 3 wenches at the nonshark tavern. Guess we got lucky:)

Was just reading my post and realized that when I said "nonshark" tavern, I was probably unclear. Dulak has 2 taverns in it. One is the Hungry Shark tavern located ~ -500,-500. The other tavern, the one I was hunting at, is located around -250, -700. There is a bar wench that spawns just outside the entrance of it, and that's the spawn that happened to drop the shard for us. Hope that is a little more helpful.

Thought I would stick my nose in here and help people find the drops for the quests as I have recently completed them.

A Torn Luggald Robe: Dulak's Harbor? - In all honesty i DON'T remember where I picked this up. I looted it on one of our guild's first trips into the new zones shortly after the release of LoY and I saved just about everything that dropped. Possibly came from the tunnels in Dulak near where the Soulstealer (?) spawns.

A Sharp Glass Shard: Dulak's Harbor - This dropped in the tavern between the boat docks (white building). I had mine MQed by a druid friend but I can confirm that the shard drops here.

A Dark Ore Amulet: Crypt of Nadox - Zone in from Gunthak at the lava river. Swim through that a bit and you will see a bridge...climb up the right side (I made it with a Vah Shir but my Ogre friend couldn't seem to get up the slope, be wary of this). Standing near the bridge and looking toward the bonfire take the hall to the far right and go until you come to a 'T' intersection. Make camp here. Our group managed to get several of these to drop (as well as a bunch of Hate Forged Pauldrons) in about an hour of killing the furious/vehement Blackhands.

A Jar of Broken Skull clan Ink: Torgiran Mines - Zone into Crypt of Nadox and succor/evac. This will put you right near the zone to the mines. Cross over into Torgiran and setup camp before the false wall and pull out there. In a couple hours of camping here we saw 3 or 4 of these drop.

All in all this is a rather fun quest with a very nice reward. I prefer this to something like SCHW as I think it's easier to find a nicer hand slot equipment than neck slot.

The turn in for the second quest (ink, amulet, cord) gave me almost half a yellow of exp on a solo turn-in at 51, but I won't swear to that as I really wasn't paying attention. I may do these quests all over again just for the exp if that is the case.

Again, fairly simple quest, fun, and a great reward.

Just to round out Jagd's excellent post as we have just done the quest also :-

Torn Luggald Robe appears to be rare off any luggald in the secret caves in Dulak's harbour. Not very rare - we got three robes in about 6 hours of camping Soulstrippers (got three of those too!)

Sharp Glass shard - a little harder to get because Tavern wenches are scarcer than luggalds. They are a rare drop off the Tavern Wenches - of which there are 2 spawns in the Hungry Shark tavern on the seafront - and more at the other tavern (but we didnt go there). Probably 1 shard per three hours camping.

Dark ore amulet - Jagd describes the route to the furious / vehement blackhand room in Nadox and this is the right place. Mine dropped from A Blackhand Lieutenant. About one every 2 hours camping for us - but there is a large supply of trolls and others may kill them faster.

Jar of Broken Skull clan ink - camp either from behind the wall as Jagd suggests or sit in the safe corner of the bridge room. This seems to be the rarest piece for us so far - 1 drop in 4 hours camping.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 31 2003 at 6:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) A Torn Luggald Robe drops of a named, forget name. He spawns close after the first bridge in the Luggald Caves.

I've been hunting for this ink for some time now and never have I seen it. Is it just stupid rare or am I getting unlucky? Two trips of 3 hours each pulling and killing every bloodguard in the entire bridge room and still nothing. I'm starting to get annoyed. Not to mention I have to keep hauling my friends over there to help me do this. Could anyone who hunts this area frequently for xp or drops have an estimate of how rare the ink is?

I think perhaps just unlucky. I went with a group of guildies and camped right at the zone from Nadox. I'm not sure where our necro was pulling from but we managed to find a few bottles of ink in just 1 or 2 hours time.

I definitely wouldn't call it a common drop, but not rare either.
it is MQ able, and you have to hand in the amulet
# May 03 2003 at 11:21 AM Rating: Default
I did the quest with a wizard he handed in the robe and i handed in the glass shard. However you have to hand in the other amulet when you hand in the second items. The items that make up this quest or quite rare, it took my group 6-7 hours just to get 3 of the items.

My cleric had looted the amulet that we got as a train came out of the temple and we started derailing. We were in loot and kill in case of a death. Only amulet we have seen in three weeks of camping in there. I had part one of the quest and the ink jar. We turned in the amulet, and then I turned in the part one and the ink, wham, about 3 pct xp shared and then the Anulet... Nice upgrade to my glimmering mithril torqe.

Woot! Thanks Glorn!!!!!

I finally finished this quest last night after weeks of searching for the Dark Ore Amulet. It finally dropped off a Blackhand Guardian at the end of the hallway that leads to the chapel room with the mechanical trap door.

I also wanted to mention that I received 3% of my level at 56 for completing the second part of this quest. I don't think I've ever received so much xp for an item quest!
