Jusean Evanesque peers intently through several pages of the book, mumbling quietly under his breath as he does. His gaze falls on one page in particular as his eyes begin to widen as they pass over each line. He begins scribbling frantically across the pages in between the lines. 'Take this, who ever wrote it was obviously a student of my father. The style is unmistakable. I've written some notes up for you so it should be easier to read. Take this back to Kardin and he'll teach it to you.

You say, 'Who is your father?'

Jusean Evanesque says 'My father Heltin disappeared while on a voyage aboard the Sea King. A group of troll pirates attacked and boarded the ship. Ginleen Harltop and the steel warriors traveling with them managed to fight them off, but took many casualties. My father was one of the bodies that was not accounted for. They found his song book floating in the water near the boat. The red water soaked through it's pages told more of the story then I ever care to know.'

Get "An Old Water Logged Lute' from the shady treasure sorters in Dulak. An uncommon/rare drop.

Find "a crazed miner" in the Torgiran Mines. There are many located inside the Torgiran Mines but it MUST be the Human Male version. Unlike the other miners he will also con indifferently, refer to the below map for known spawn locations.

You say, 'Hail, a crazed miner'

a crazed miner looks up at you with an obscene grin on his face. 'The blackness oozes dark as night, if I were you I'd run in fright. If you don't learn to hear, in the mines you're sure to disappear, never to return again, unless of course you bring some friends. Even so, as it goes, you'll soon be without your toes!' He then begins to laugh quietly under his breath.

You say, 'Are you Heltin?'

a crazed miner says 'Heltin? Heltin!?!? I knew a Heltin once! he was quite a good looking fellow if I remember correctly! Always very popular with the ladies at the Mermaid's Lure! I wonder what ever became of him. Oh yes, now I remember, he went Batty! Stark raving mad!' He begins to poke Katarin hard in the head presumably to accentuate his friend's madness. Although he rather seems to be enjoying himself as well.'

You say, 'Why did you go mad?'

a crazed miner says 'Mad? Who's mad? You are!? I'm sorry to hear that, if Heltin was here with his lute perhaps he could sing a song to ease your mind! Since he's not at home right now and there's no lute then I guess you'll just have to stay insane! Luckily for you I'm here to keep us all alive though! Come, help me catch a snipe for dinner, I hear they are good eating! You just have to take your helmet off, and bang the back end of it with your hand and they'll fly right in!'

Couldn't get him to respond to any more prompts, finally handed in lute. Almost handed in lute of the howler instead.

a crazed miner looks over the lute for a moment. He sets his fingers carefully over the strings, closes his eyes, and begins to play. A soft aria fills the stale air of the cavern with a strange warmth. Something inside you awakens that you had long forgotten. So long forgotten that you are unable to conjure a name for it from your memory. As the song ends the strange feeling leaves you as the darkness of the cavern closes in once more around you.

a crazed miner says 'Thank you my friends, for returning my senses to me. The dark dust of the mines had torn my sanity from me. Luckily my hands remembered the songs my mind had forgotten. Here, take this note to my son Jusean in Qeynos. He'll be able to transcribe a proper song for you from it. I must stay here and attempt to save the other miners from the dark insanity of the mines.'

a crazed miner says 'Tell Jusean. . . 'Suddenly you hear a bowstring snap as an arrow sails through the air and strikes Heltin in the chest. He lies twitching before you for a moment before he stops and lies completely still.''

Return to South Qeynos and give the stained parchment to Jusean.

You gain experience!!

Jusean Evanesque says 'My father gave you this just before he died?! So he's been alive all these years in the mines of Brokenskull Rock. What a bitter end for such a talented minstrel. I will transcribe this song for you Katarin, but you must promise to use it to help those like my father, trapped in an unnatural insanity. I pray that you will not fall to the same fate.'

Waterlogged lute is pretty easy to get. Many shady npcs up. The torgiran part is a bit more difficult. Spawn timers seem to be around 17-19 minutes. Very big social aggro zone so it's easy to get overwhelmed. Human miner is easy to spot as he is pretty much the only one that isn't KoS. Link to video: https://youtu.be/trGZRi8-OLo

The description of the quest NPC "a crazed miner" could use some tightening up. He is in fact a green con to 65, and his location is +8, -516. He is easily distinguished from the rest of the crazed miners because he cons indifferent while the rest of them con scowls, and he is a human while the others are gnomes, halflings, and high elves. The rest of the quest checks out.

Updated and included a map for easier reference. I can confirm I had him spawn in the southern room with 4 Spawns in the NE corner but he is definitely up right now at the +8, -516 spawn so I've included both. There are likely other spawn locations but these are the two I've seen him at the most.

Found the HUMAN crazed miner near Gandak Whisperwind. It has to be the HUMAN, no other race will work. SoE's choice to fix the original error of finding this mob that was never up, is now there are at least a DOZEN crazed miners. Thanks go to SoE for making this so confusing. It's not rocket science SoE, so how come you gotta make it so?

I just found him, he conned pale blue at 53rd level, but I knew it was him because he was unaffected by Kelin's Lugubrious Lament. I used it on the other 3 miners in the area and was able to walk up to him and get it. He was a male human, just for the record.

Also found him at this loc. PH was a subverted miner.

I had been killing all the crazed miners by the sw of the map when I checked track to find this one no where near them. Doh!

Nobody seems to have mentioned it yet, but while you are clearing spawns for the dude to pop, keep saving the pristine ore samples that drop pretty regularly in there. I mean if youre gonna be there anyway, just kill other nearby mobs while you are waiting and loot em all up and turn em in 4 at a time for a LORE 5 shot spell absorbtion potion. Just keep all the extras you get till you use the potion up, then just turn in the next 4. It comes in handy when you are fighting in zones where the mobs cast nukes. And its worth the trip to Steamfont to do a turn in if you already got the pristine ore samples.

Just got him to spawn at -177,-422.

Clear the whole area last night for 2 hours and didn't get him to spawn then cleared the room listed above and the few rooms around that room for a few hours today and got him to pop...good luck to anyone trying this takes patience but song is definitely worth it.

Edit. This is the "a crazy miner" (human version) in Torgiran mines.

I spent about 2 hours clearing PH's in the mines and never did get the Human crazed miner to spawn. Then I went for dinner, someone must have killed them all while I was away because when I returned all the Ph's were different and lo and behold the human was up.

When you hand in the lute , the human dies and a new crazed miner spawns, but I had a few seconds to punch invis song and calmly make my way to the entrance while other bards told me they had to either kill the new one or bust a move to Dulak zone. I did NOT play my charisma song I just hailed him and handed him the lute.

It's kind of a neat story if you read the text, even a bit bittersweet really. Blah who cares we just want the dot remover right?

Right =)

I camped for crazed miner for hours today clearing both of the listed PHs at -177, -422 and 4, -518. I got bored and killed the second mob that spawns in the -177, -422 room located at -236, -396... oddly enough that was where the Human Crazed Miner spawned for me at! The respawn time appears to be approx 22-25 minutes. Total camp time for this guy was about 3 hours. /Yawn. Good Luck!

Just did the turn in with crazed miner at location (6, -518), pretty close to the zoneline. No mobs see through invis that I encountered ... pretty easy quest if quest npc is up.

Just completed this quest. Hunted for about 3 hours the first night and got the drop, but I saw 3drop for a good evenings hunting as well ...

Time your invis song out so that you cancel it at second # 2 , do the turn in, and viola, your invis pops back up in time for the respawned miner to not even know your there :))
What is the respawn?

What is the respawn on the two mobs in the room where the quest NPC spawns? I had one take like 1 hour and 5 minutes to spawn, give or take a few minutes...I was just wondering if that's the usual or what?

ok this happened to me today. I was camping the crazy killing the ph at LOC -177, -422 with my lvl 65 pocket mage(bard only lvl 37). well as some might know there is a second spawn in the room. well being board i also killed the second mob. after a few cycles(each cycle longer than 22min cuz i use HoE in each cycle) killed the ph in LOC -177, -422 then get ready for the second mob. i get ready to attack but before i do i notice its human i think go fig the odds so i con the crazy. low and behold it cons indiff same room but in the other spawn point. I have a friend who is a bard also who want the spell. So since he can use the spell more atm i tell him about the spawn and wait a bit for him to come and do the turn-in. he turns-in the lute and the crazy despawns and a resistant pops. we kill it then i help my friend gate back to pok. not 1 min later i get the crazy again this time at LOC -177, -422 i was like OMG!! what luck. so i zone in my alt bard and CoH him to me. do the turn-in and get ready for the crazy to despawn and a kos mob to attack. well thats not what happend. the new pop was the crazy again. thats right 3 indiff crazys in less than 10 minutes all were lb at 65. I hope this is helpfull and you are as lucky as i was with the spawn.

also if you camp this room there is a wanderer that walks through there. i did no agro it but then again i attacked the static spawns while it was not in the room. i also scouted before the camp to make sure the crazy was not already up after i seen he was not up i started my camp.

I did the two aria quests (ascetism and innocence) on three bards now, just this morning with my lowest at 39, the others were 52. It was all fairly straight forward - park yourself at the east side of Dulak's, at the open area at the end of the pier to Dandolak's Run. Four times now I've seen the lute drop from a shady treasure sorter pulled from the warehouse (the most easterly one) just across from that pier-parking spot. Check track and pull the troubadour when he pops, lulling wanderers on the way. The 39 bard just sat while one of my others did the killing, but she had no problem doing the quests once the book and lute dropped. The indifferent crazed miner has been in the exact same spot each time i've seen him - the south-west corner of the room at approx neg 200 neg 400. I went in with a sow (though i didn't really need it, it was just for convenience and nothing attacked me) and played invis and just strolled over to that room. There was a half elf woman miner in there as well, but she was on the other side of the room and her back was to me, and she never agro'd on me. I stood behind the crazed miner and kept playing invis, but clicked it off on my effects box and conned him - indiff. I did it again and handed in the lute, and because I was still playing the invis song as soon as he gave me the parchment I was invis again, and then it was just a matter of walking out. Very easy. :)

To confirm what Juxtamar posted... I've just done the turn in to a human crazed miner that was at 7, -515 (ie a little way before you reach the area where they all hang out). He disappeared and another human crazed miner spawned immediately. Both conned indifferent, whereas all other miners are ready to attack.
He wasn't there some 12 hours ago, but I may have been the first person into the zone since a patch so there may be something that triggers his appearance there. It may be significant that there were other people in the zone the second time I looked, but I do not know what they were hunting.

59 bard 52 cleric 40 monk, invis to -177 -422, lull wandering guard if present, get up on one of the 2 mobs that spawn in the room. Use mez and push em into wall, then melee until dead.

repeat until a crazed miner spawn (was NOT named) who cons indifferent at -177 -422, do turn in.

total time was 2 spawns

Just a quick summary of what I discovered reading this board, and others.
The 'Crazed Miner' you seek is the only human crazed miner; and the only indifferent crazed miner. When I located him, he was at (6, -518), which was NOT the section where all the other crazed miners hang out.

Regarding the note that he was DB to a lvl 65.. that might work if you're lvl 65, so I won't knock it... but I did the quest at lvl 51, and ALL the crazed miner's were DB. (Making the lvl posting of 53-54 inaccurate) :-) Handing in the lute will of course break invis, but if you're far away from the other mobs, and don't actually stop singing, it should be short enough you won't agro.

Incidentaly, he respawned in the same spot w/in seconds of the turn-in, so I believe this is a very likely spot to find him in. Also, he was the closest crazed miner to the zone, so if you track crazed miners, it is likely the first one on track will be this guy. (If he doesn't move around)

Good luck!

Lute turn-in
# Oct 02 2003 at 9:09 AM Rating: Decent
I turned-in the Lute to "a crazed minor" today. This is what I did.

As a Bard, as soon as I zoned into the mines, my flute was already equipped and I bagan playing the invisibility song. Only one note below attests to any mob seeing through invisibility; I would guess your chances of encountering that mob are slim.

I pulled up TRACKING, selected the nearest "a crazed miner", and began the wobbling walk according to the directional "ahead and to the right"-type messages. Luckily, the first target conned DB-and-indifferent to my Bard 55 (Reah Starsong/Bristlebane server).

I remained invisible, and simply turned-in the Old Water Logged Lute, as I would hand a weapon to a pet. No Hail, no dialog, no appearing from invisibility. Tooting of trumpets, I gain experience, the received note appears, the mob disappears, and invisibility song keeps on playing. Simply, no exposure.

The Monk 53 I brought as a comfort-escort thought it was a cool adventure without having to kill anything. After Reah demonstrated the above abilities, he was impressed. Most do not know how versatile a Bard can be. Well, when comparing the non-fighting abilities of a Monk, Bards rather do stand out...

We walked out of the mines invis'd, and the turn-in ended as a simple success. Now, Reah is headed to South Qeynos for the final turn-in.

Good luck to you.

The lute is not a tough deal,,just have to silent song of quellous a few mobs around the tresure sorters and fight them right there . Took about 30 minute's to maybe 45 for the lute to drop . Just so all you people dont spend hours camping the Dark blue crazed miner to turn in lute to ,,he does not have to be dark blue,,i conned a light blue crazed miner,he can be green as well, found to be indifferent and just hailed him and handed in thelute,,he despawned and i went about my way to turn in note for song in qenyos, As far as for him being human each time,,he is not, mine was woodelf so just con them all till one is indifferent
,good luck it isnt as hard as it seems.

I'm not sure about the claim that this quest requires you to be 60+ to do the quest. In the large amounts of time I spent partnering in this zone (in the low 50s) I saw people OOC'ing the lute rotting pretty frequently.

When I went back at level 62 to do this quest (having decided that the Curse cure was REALLY useful) I was easily able to single pull the treasure sorters and kill them very quickly. The rest is just running around.

At 52, this could be difficult to solo, but easy with a partner and trivial with a group of friends.

Does anyone else feel the bard got a bit stiffed with the LoY song quests? I mean this quest really requires you to be level 60+ to be safe, and you get a level 52 song thats almost useless? The Aria of Asceticism is no better either IMO

Addition to Naito and Devamaru, no curse resist gear is available in the game (at the moment). Cure curse and counteract curse will save player in high end encounter. Yes not a favorite song to memorize all the time, but someday you will need it.

... as i'm still hoping that they will release the group FD song ...

I agree with Naito. Certainly, these songs are situational. They're not something you will likely have memorized all the time. However, the Aria of Asceticism removes diseases, poisons, slows, and tashani spells... an ability that bards did not have up to this point. (Psalm of Purity, etc. was reported to have cured poisons and disease, but never did.) Also, the ability to remove curses, while certainly rare, is another very useful tool in the bardic toolbox especially in the end-game where curses are a problem. Mana-free cures... why is this pointless?

There may not be a LOT of uses for this song, but I have found the Aria of Asceticism useful in the past, in dispelling some slows, such as those cast by the lizards near the zone-in in CT... And getting your warrior back to 70% faster than normal from 70% slower than normal is a win in my book.

To make this spell useful, simply find the spells that have curse counters, then make sure you head to places with mobs that cast those spells. Who knows, it may be those particular spells that caused your guild to avoid those spots in the first place.
