You say, 'Hail, Cartographer Piri'

Cartographer Piri says 'Hail, traveler! Would you have a moment? I'm in need of some assistance.'

You say, 'Yes'

Cartographer Piri says 'Thank you! I'll make it worth your while. I recently discovered the remains of an odd little map that may detail the distant Gulf of Gunthak. The map itself, however, is in a horrible state. . .a suspiciously horrible state if you ask me. Much of it is [missing].'

You say, 'Missing?'

Cartographer Piri says 'The pirates of Broken Skull Rock have purposefully destroyed any accurate maps to protect the secrecy of their base. Three key parts are damaged. The compass notation, the legend and the coordinate label are all gone. Take this Cartography Binder. Use it to [collect] the fragments.'

You say, 'I will collect the fragments'

Cartographer Piri says 'No doubt the pirates will have some of the fragments. Search Broken Skull Rock, paying careful attention to Gunthak and Dulak Harbor. An accurate map must be made. It is the first step in breaking the pirates' hold on the region. Good luck.'

Cartographer Piri gives you a Cartography Binder. The parts needed for this quest are Map Legend, Coordinate Label and Compass Notation. The Map Legend and Compass Notation are found on random mobs in Dulak's Harbor. The Coordinate Label is found on random mobs in the Gulf of Gunthak.

Combine the Map Legend, the Coordinate Label and the Compass Notation into the Cartography Binder to make a Completed Cartography Binder.

Return to Cartographer Piri with the Completed Cartography Binder to receive your Skyfall Seeker.

Cartographer Piri says 'Incredible! With a little work, I will be able to create a finished map of the Gulf of Gunthak. No longer will the pirates be able to keep their lair a secret. Thank you! Please take this as a reward for your efforts.'
You gain experience!!

Not correct, the Coordinate Label drops in The Gulf of Gunthak.

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 07 2004 at 9:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Complete waste of a quest and NPC taking up server resources now with everyone having 200 sense heading from level 1.

It may be a waste as far as directional help, but it still has OK stats for a lower char - particularly if you take along a 20's something one to loot the pieces.

And one NPC PROBABLY doesn't take up alot of resources... think about it.....

It seems to me that making it possible to do a quest that results in an addition to your LoY mapping function for a specific zone would be a quest many would be willing to do. The amount of time, detail work, labeling, etc, necessary to create a credible map is irritating. I started to map Gunthak, but the mobs kept interfering. You HAVE to walk along the wall to make a specific outline, you have to clear an area then move along the walls to do it well. Only the higher levels have a decent chance at mapping using this new function, and by the time they can do it safely and easily, they will tend to be facing all green, non-aggro-ing mobs.

Just an Idea Verant - How about some quests that will net us a new "map' of a zone for our new LoY Cartography system??

Verant was gone long before anyone thought of LoY.

Bah, why? Just go to maps.eq-toolbox.com and download layer 1 maps of every zone in the game. And while you're there, get the layer 2 files that add a coordinate grid. And there you have it, maps of every zone.

In Stonebrunt, click on the boat doors at the dock to get to the LoY zones.
Useless item for rangers
# Mar 11 2003 at 6:57 AM Rating: Default
I play a ranger, and would never have a use for this item. My bow never leaves my range slot, it is my crit hit weap , and first choice for pulling. To have to root through my inventory to reequip this item and the switch back to bow to much work and the effect of the stats nullified. If this were a charm slot instead of range slot i think it would definately be worth something. If it were a droppable item, I would think about doing the quest to hand down to one of my lower level characters. As is though, It is a complete waste of time for me. Just my 2 cp take it for what its worth

did you notice you don't have to equip it to click it? you can trigger from inventory.

Fun quest, while searching and killing Shady treasure seekers in Dulak, the map ledgend and compass notation dropped for me off various mobs. As I was making my way through Gunthak to the lighthouse a named was on track, killed it dropped final peice coridinate label dropped and decided to head to EFP to turn in the items.

was pretty fast and easy to get the Lore NoDrop items... but what I'm trying to figure out is what the Medallions are used for. hmmmmm

Easy, but would rather it open a map file than get the item personally.

As for the Medallions, see the charm of brotherhood quest in Neriak.

Thanks for the info on the other two pieces! As for me, I can definitely attest to the coordinate label dropping off any of the "blackhand" type mobs (not just named). Camped the little fort in GoG killing blackhand warriors and shamen (along with anything else that popped in the fort) for awhile with someone seeking troll heads and 7-8 of those labels dropped. No troll heads though, think he may have been mistaken... Seperate topic though.

What faction is needed for this? Would an ogre shadowknight be able to do it?

The quest giver on the Freeport dock is neutral. Watch out for wandering guards.
