You say, 'Hail Millius Darkwater.'

Millius Darkwater lifts his sword out of the water at his feet and scans his eyes across you. 'Hello. The waters stir angrily today. Prexus is not pleased at the tarnishing of his waters by the spawn of Innoruuk. The Deepwater Knights have been trying to locate this [place] for many years.'

You say, 'What place?'

Millius Darkwater says, 'These legends of Broken Skull Rock have been whispered for years. Indeed several of our greatest vessels were lost while in search of this island. Many of our [knights] died trying to cleanse Prexus’ waters of this great Evil.'

You say, 'What knights?'

Millius Darkwater says, 'Most recently a Cavalier named Chester Steelblade went in search of the legend. He was gone at sea for months before we received word from him. The letter we received spoke of a map that he’d found as well as a somewhat cryptic reference to having found the [key] to Broken Skull Rock. One of our [clerics] took a small group out in search of him, but we have received no news from either group.'

You say, 'What key?'

Millius Darkwater says, 'He didn’t give any more information about the key, but we’re sure that he must have found something that led him here. We have found no sign of him or his crew yet. Truthfully it would be a miracle if he were still alive. I follow his path in hopes that I can continue his work where he left off. If he is dead then his spirit may yet linger here. Tied to this world by his unfinished task.'

You say, 'What clerics?'

Millius Darkwater says, 'The cleric that went in search of Chester’s crew is called Alina Crystalia and she was barely more then a student when she left. We didn’t want to let her go, but ultimately we had little say in the matter. She was always very fond of Chester. She may have in fact found him, although I suspect too late to save either of them. Clerics of Prexus are required to carry with them a Deepwater Emblem to identify them, If nothing else I hope to find Alinia’s emblem to return it to Erudin.'

Loot A Black Medallion off a Troll Plunderer and turn it in to Millius Darkwater.

Millius Darkwater says, 'Taken for one of the pirates you said? Interesting. This medallion does seem to resemble what Chester described in his last letter to Eurdin. I can sense the spirit of one of our order nearby. It is in terrible torment, I suspect Chester’s spirit has been bound here by the dark curse of Innoruuk. You must find him and set him free. If you find him, show him this necklace to remind him of this unfinished errand. Perhanps he can help you complete what he could not do alone.'

You gain experience!!

Millius Darkwater hands you back A Black Skull Necklace.

Head to -1100, -1100 and find a male Erudite Spirit (name?). He will be attacked by other undead around him so do this quickly.

The undead do not attack him, but if you keep the surrounding area clear of undead while you wait for him to spawn you should not have any problems when he does spawn.

When you turn the Necklace into him, he will reward you with the spell Ethereal Cleansing and A Glowing Black Skull Necklace (for the 2nd Paladin LOY spell?).

an erudite spirit looks at you with piercing eyes that tear through your heart. His ethereal fingers close around the necklace. A blinding light surrounds both the necklace and the transparent figure as you shield your eyes away. When the light dies down you look to see the necklace, now softly glowing, sitting on the sand. As you pick it up you notice a wet scroll half buried in the sand beneath it. A voice echoes in your mind. 'Find him.'

I was reviewing the quest so I could run through it with my little Pally, and seeing the absolutely horrid amounts of misinformation...

I came back to EQ a month or so before LoY came out, so by the time it hit, I had my Shaman ready to explore the new zones. Between him, my Cleric, my second Shaman, countless guildies, etc, I have spent considerable time in those zones and specifically at the spots where the quest turn ins occur. Both of my Shaman and my Cleric leveled from 30 to 50 primarily in LoY.

The Male Spirit and Female Spirit can both be up at the same time. There is no special tricks to getting them to spawn. Just keep their PH cleared. It may take one round, it may take 15. It is pretty random.

The male spawns at the crows nest, always at the exact same spot, from the exact same PH. You can be standing right on top of him, and he will still spawn. He did it to me once or twice. He will NOT aggro anyone, nor will other nearby mobs aggro on him. (Same with female spirit for Cleric quest)

You do not need to kill any underwater mobs, keep any set distance, stick a Plains Pebble in your shoe or any other such nonsense. Just keep killing the mobs around the crows nest. I've popped him when me and my toons were the only ones in zone, and we certainly didn't go killing other mobs.

For Chester and the next quest: He can be any of three mobs in the tunnel in Dulak. When you enter the tunnels, take the first fork right (not the first room, keep going till you get to a bridge). This is also the spot where the PH is for the Soulstripper (different mob, but same spot).

Chester will either be one of the two stationary 'door guards' to either side of the steps going down to the big chamber, or he will be the roamer. Chester is, like the spirits, non aggro (until you do turn in. Then he gets very...excitable)

Just got it off of a boat engineer on the STORMWAVE dock. That particular dock seems to have 2 boat engineers that spawn on it. I hunted all the other docs multiple times and the stormwave dock was the only one I found the medallion on.

I camped the dock of the first boat on the right from 44 through 47. Killing engineers and the boat scrubber and fisherman and a few off the boat as well. The medallion did not drop. I was full of loot and went to sell and on the way back I stopped by the fort in Gunthak and started killing there. Within 20 minutes the medallion dropped from a troll.
The three rocks was the place on the beach where the ghost spawned.

I had my pally pull EVERYTHING in and around the fort area in Gunthak clearing the area entirely 6 times and no luck so far. No surprises there. But I did this in a little over an hour by pulling 6 at a time with my 56 Pally, targeted him with my 74 mage, and launched my 2 biggest rain spells. It is a very efficient way to kill alot of mobs in a short time. No deaths (to my toons anyway) and very little healing needed on the Pally.

This is an easy quest - but TIME CONSUMING. Whoever said that this is easy must have done it on a different build. I spent DAYS in there looking for the necklace. Finally, I got my necklace off of a Gnome. Troll Plunderers are HARD to find in there.

Also - the turn in to the Erudite spirit does NOT result in 4 undead suddenly attacking. He just gives you back the necklace and says "FIND HIM".

My 47 Pally was soloing in Gunthak for a couple hours with no luck when a guildy told me about the 3 mobs in Dulak that drop the medallion. She brought out her 55 SK and we duoed (with her 70 Cleric watching) there for about 45 mins and I got my drop. The best part was I got about 70% of my level while duoing with the SK. Ran to Gunthak for the turn in and had to zone a train. Right before zoning the SK told me the Male Eurodite Spirit was up...what LUCK! Zoned back in, swam over (I'm a froggy, so that didn't take long) and got my spell

EQ is down right now for maintenance, but I'll be doing my Light of Life turn in some time today.

edit...
Did my Light of Life turn in...strolled into Dulaks, followed directions below and there he was...handed him the necklace and ran like @#%$. I gave a warning before hand in, so I didn't train anyone :)

To do this quest right here are things to remeber.

1 after you get the black Madallion take it to Millis.

2.Stay in Gunthak an go to the south wall that wall you kill the undead near the bank an Move away from there. go near the middle.Eventualy an erudite spirit will spawn. If your right where he spawns he WONT spawn. he will spawn at the 3 stones.Move away from there.

3.If there are any other An Erudite Spirit an there not male Kill them.

4.Once you get the him hand the item to him an go back to Millis an return the necklace.which is a Glowing Batskull necklace.

5.THEN take that to Chester Stormblade in Dulak's Harbor.See quest Light of Life.

This was NOT exspained in the post made.where many of you have tried this quest before an just took the necklace to Chester an got your Spells an he handed you back 2 scrolls with both spells. you luck bastards. This quest was changed recently without posting. This is the new quest as it should be anounced.

2. The male erudite spirit will spawn even if you are "right where he spawns".

3. There is absolutely no need to kill the female erudite spirit to get the male spirit to spawn. She spawns in a different location and both can be up at the same time. Don't screw over a cleric just because you're impatient.

Was "a black skull neclace" (magic no drop) returns "a glowing black skull necklace" (magic no drop) and the Spell: Ethereal Cleansing (magic no drop).
"a black medallion" dropped of a troll marauder for me, on the second spawn, in the hut just to the left after the entance to the "Fort" in Gunthak (single spawn hut). By the wall between the entrance and the hut seems to be a "safe spot"
The easiest solo plcae to get i have found.
[I have witnessed it drop randomly in both Gunthak and Dulak, seems to be the watched pot never boils syndrome to me, when you are pulling with a group it simply seems more common do to the amount of kills per time.]
Anyway hopes this helps out, and good luck.

I was fooling around with my Pally (lvl 46)Alt in Gunthak when i noticed the male erudite spirit was up. I thought the undead would attack it but they did not.

So i decide to see if i can solo the fort area for one of the troll mobs that drop the black medallion. AFter about 20 kills are so i got tired and decided to log on my ranger and just kill every troll i ran across in the area.

After the 2nd troll maurader kill i got one of the medallions to drop. I quickly logged my pally back on ( he was parked right around the corner) Invis'd up ran to the spot where the troll fell and looted the medallion.

Ran by the to erudite spawn to make sure he was still up. Then ran to do the turn with Millius, and ran back to erudite spirit for the final turn in.

1) Kill for the medallion in Dulak's Harbor, NOT at the troll camp in Gulf of Gunthak.
2) You do NOT have to kill the female erudite spirit to spawn the male. I just completed the quest 5 minutes ago, we spawned the male spirit while the female spirit was up.
3) Just keep the undead clear around the crow's nest on the ground at -1100, -1100, between the rocks. The spirit will spawn... eventually. You don't need to stand on you head, or kill mobs underwater or stand in a special spot or whatever. Its typical EQ, it will spawn whenever it feels like spawning. Expect to be at the camp awhile unless you get lucky.

Good Luck

1) True. I camped the first platform in Dulak's harbour a year ago. There is a safe spot beside wall near it. A Black Medallion came quite fast from a boat scrubber.
RE: Quick Summary
# Mar 28 2005 at 6:21 PM Rating: Default
I tried the fort and was successful fairly quickly once I logged on my druid to track stuff instead of just running around with my monk (it was for my friend's pally.) I just ran around invis and tracked down all the trolls in the fort area (trolls with names like "a troll X") and I got it second kill.

I think Dulak's just a little easier to manage in the end though.

Here's the quest from what I've heard.
1. Give Millius Darkwater A Black Medallion.
2. Give the necklace to male erudite spirit on beach.
3. Go Back to Dulak and give what you got from spirit to Chester, who in turn gives you the spell and attacks you. Chester is in Dulak tunnels from what I hear.
Well, that's all I know from what I've heard.

Dropped from a *Marauder*
# Jul 10 2004 at 12:40 AM Rating: Default
Had the medallion drop off of A Troll Marauder ... could be that the Marauder beat up the Plunderer and stole his medallion, hehehe

I am not sure where the Marauder was, because a couple people next to me pulled it. We were both (groups) at the mouth of the village are where the tunnel leads to the trolls, erudites, and such so it was close to they are I think.

I got very lucky ... I zoned into Gunthak to LFG and see about camping the Plunderer, and a guildy of mine was in there PLing his alt so he started to PL me at the same time because noone was LFM. We started near Nadox, then worked our way toward the camp. Got there after clearing the tunnel mobs and there were people there so I sent a tell asking about the medallion...no luck. So I started pulling my side and 15 minutes or so later, I get a tell that the medallion was rotting!!! WOOT! It was on the Plunderer /shrug

Then they trained us and I had to run my little flippers off and come back and rez his alt ... but that was okay - I was too happy to care and so was he! Then I was at the bank about to log out when he told me the male erudite was up!!! WOW my luck was good. Went back and handed in the medallion, after mistaking the female erudite for the mob he was talking about (I thought they spawned in the same spot, had not read that far yet).

I am 37 now, cannot wait to make use of this sometime soon :o)

NOTHING was easy for me

As with everything in EQ nothing was easy for me. I NEVER get any needed loot on the first try, but some of my experiences may help others. Of course getting the medallion was random luck. One trip to the fort in gunthak, seven to Dulak. Last few I went solo at level 52. Finally one was announced on Lady D dock on boat engineer.
The most interesting part was getting the male erudite spirit to spawn. On a few occasions my huband and I would take a break in windowed mode and re read all the posts here. It took SIX hours for the male to spawn. I tried every trick on the web site. A guildie said I had to kill the skelly in the "middle" of the beach so I went killing them when the mobs around the rock were clear and my husband guarded the camp. He did spawn immediately after I killed a skel that was in an overturned boat hull by the beach, but I think it was coincidence. The female popped once, we killed her. We stayed away from the spawn point, etc. The only bonus was my husbands berserker got from level 30-33 that night. I had to camp there anyway so at least it all ended well.
What I wanted to mention though, the next night we went back to help him level some more. That day the erudite male spawned three time in three hours and the female two. At one point BOTH were up at the same time. I had read theories about them being linked and one had to be killed. Once he hit 35 we grouped and were clearing the beach rapidly. There may be a random place holder there somewhere as they were both spawning so often when we killed everything on the beach, except for a camped area.
Sorry it's so long but hope it spares someone the aggrivation and frustration I endured. Love the spell.
no name
# Apr 13 2004 at 2:11 AM Rating: Decent
Doesn't have a special name, just a male "an erudite spirit". assuming the one at the -1100 -1100 spawn is the correct one (worked fine for me), seems like all the other erudite spirits are female (could be wrong). bummer cause the spell is lvl 44 but at lvl 40 some of the undead around the camp are light blue so not the greatest xp, even solo

I was helping my 45PAL friend get the spell. The spirit popped after we killed one of the undead that hang around -1100, -1100, just like how the spirit pops when Pegleg is killed in BB. It was about 20-30 minutes of waiting.

Just do the hand-in, then run to the area and keep killing the few undeads surrounding -1100, -1100 and you'll have your spell.

After coming to dulak a number of times and having nothing drop from all the engineers I killed (and anything else that crossed my path), I went to the fort area in gulf of gunthak. A troll pillager dropped it for me after 1-2 hours of kills. She was in one the huts near the corridor.

Ok guys i have a very important question. Last night i got the medallion in Dulak, i went to millius and turned it in and then i went to the male erudite spirit spawn place. After about 1.5 hours and no spawn i decided i must've screwed up or something and logged for the night. I read all the posts here today and i was wondering do i need to get the medallion again? I camped last night and just wondering if i will need to get the medallion again so that he will spawn. Thanks

No, you do not have to get the medallion again. Just stay at the spawn point for the MALE ghost and kill everything that spawns there until it spawns. It's just like the clierc quest in that you just have to keep that spot clear so your turn-in mob can spawn.

If you don't know where the MALE ghost appears at, it is the far south east of the beach where you see a "crowsnest" on the ground.
Boat Engineers Worked for me
# Jan 08 2004 at 7:19 AM Rating: Decent
In DULAK, Killing the boat engineers by boats one, two and three yielded the Black Medallion after about an hour of camping.

Hit boat one for a lil xp with my Ranger Friend and had 4 Cleric Temp parts drop in about an hour...

As an aside, I've had an alt lvl 9 AAs and 3 lvls in Dulak and have never seen this drop off boat one, two or three. Also cleared the City with the Troll PLunderers twice and never saw it drop.

Anyways just a Post to lighten those heavy hearts of Paladins still wondering if this drops... it does! Now to finish it off :)

Definately getting the Black Medallion was the hardest part of this quest. I spent two evenings camping it in Gunthak, then on a whim went to Dulak to try there. Within 30 minutes there's an /ooc for the Medallion. It dropped off a Boat Scrubber on Lady Dirulia's dock.

After turning in the Medallion to Millius Darkwater I ran to the location at the beach and the Erudite Spirit (male version) was up. He wasn't being attacked but poofed as soon as I did the turn in.

The next part of the quest was fun, a'la the Divin Might quest.

12/19/2003 : Got the medallion to drop after camping docks (clearing first boat once, then second once). Don't remember who dropped it, but not a named. Got 2 Deepwater Emblems in that time...
12/21/2003 : Cleared the spirit spawn point from everything (undeads and live). The spirit spawned approx 1.5 hour after that (3 of 4 spawn cycles of undeads), but I think I stayed a while too close from the spot... Finally, spirit spawn, and YES, it was a male!
Tried the turn in with Deepwater Emblem, after hailing Millius Darkwater, and triggering everything for temperance, but he took both emblems and gave me nothing at all!!! May be you have to be a cleric to do the temperance quest...

12/23/2003 : Today, some guild mates camped the spirit point... A spirit spawned, female, and some dumbasses slained it without asking if any cleric was doing temperance... Please, ooc before killing those white spirits!!!

Have to agree. I've spent hours and hours killing trolls around the fort with ZERO success. Then in Dulak I saw it drop twice.

Don't follow what the guides say by trying to kill at the fort, just go to Dulak's with a bunch of invis potions and get in a boat group there.
Hate this drop rate.

Well, I just got done with my fourth or fifth trip to LoY zones to get the blackened medallion component, and still nothing. I started at 44, and I am now halfway to 49 and I have yet to obtain my spell. I have spent numerous hours camping the mobs for the blackened medallion, in both suggested spots within Dulak and Gunthak. I have died there, grouped there, soloed there, and I have just about had enough of it. This is just way too rare a drop for a level 44 spell component, especially when other classes components drop constantly while I am camping my mobs. Now I know posters below and other places have said that paladins don't have too many difficult spells to obtain, but that is really not my complaint. I started my level 49 quest spell recently, Divine Might. That is a moderately involved quest, and it has a few difficult components (there are about 15 total). I am nearly finished with the quest, and while difficult, it has been great fun. This camping a single mob for dozens of hours is in no way fun. Sorry for the rant folks--maybe I shouldn't have posted immediately after logging, but this spell has just had me po'ed.

I just completed the quest on the weekend while camping the Fort area in Gunthak. The necklace dropped twice actually. The first time while I was with my SK so it rotted. The next day it dropped again for my paladin. I got the necklace and three troll heads within a couple of hours. The area I was camping is to the immediate right when you come out of the tunnel. When you come out of the tunnel start killing the mobs in the huts on the right and work your way done the row of huts. The troll marauders who drop this are found most often from the third hut to the corner.
Make sure you bring a healer with you as you get adds from the wandering Broken Skull mystic and Broken skull warrior that wander through (I think they share the same spawn). Also, be careful when pulling as some huts have a second mob hidden inside the hut. If you stand outside and pull with an arrow you should be able to avoid aggroing the second mob.

I have spent a lot of time in Dulak's and judging from the number of ooc's, the black medallion is not as common a drop compared to the deepwater emblem that the clerics need for temperance. I was therefore surprised to see the black medallion dropping around the fort.

I have done both temperance and ethereal cleansing quests recently, this is my experience of these two npcs;

The femal erudite spirit I have seen pop several times always in the same location - eastern side of large ship, location is -860,-670

The male erudite spirit I have only seen once - just south of the shipwrecked hatestorm sailor near the zone wall, location is -1100,-1015

Neither spirit was aggroed by any other mob on the beach (but I dont know if they would if they got trained). Also when I finally got the male spirit the female was up at the same time.

I have done this as part of xping - so I was constantly roaming around the beach area - not camping a location.

Hope this helps.

I was helping out a guildie doing this quest the other day, and I observed something peculiar about the spawn rate on the Erudite Spirit. When my Pally friend and I arrived and got the camp, the female Erudite Spirit was up, but the male version was down. We killed there for around 3 hours, but the male wouldn't spawn.

After awhile, we decided to test a theory. Confirming in every allied chat channel that no one needed to do the Temperance turn-in, we walked over and whacked the female spirit (after having cleared our own camp). Lo and behold, at the very next spawn cycle, the male version popped right away.

This leads me to believe that many Ykesha mobs are linked, and only one mob off a particular spawn table can be up at the same time. That would explain why I've camped the Dandolak's Run in Dulak for hours and hours, and NEVER saw the captain. He probably shares an entry with another named (captain, I'd wager), and unless someone is at another camp clearing it out, I'll NEVER see him.

And we thought that camping rare spawns couldn't POSSIBLY get any worse. Well, if my suspicion is correct, it has.

Kinda weird responding to myself, but...

I've recently begun doing the quest for my own Pally alt. It took four trips to Dulak to get my Black Medallion. I duo'ed with the wife's druid (and a buddy's alt on a couple of the runs) and worked the docks at the west end of the zone. Ultimately, it was a Boat Engineer from in front of the Windscorn that dropped the bloody thing for me after around 10 hours camping it.

If you happen to be looking for the Deepwater Emblem for Temperance, it dropped about 6 or 7 times (compared to once for the medallion) from the mobs on the western dock that has the rowboats on it. Just bring a tank along to do the dirty work, and you can sit at the head of the dock and pull the three spawns there to your heart's content without worrying about patrollers.

I might suggest the best way to do this camp (as a Pally) is actually to sit on the Windscorn dock itself and pull from there. There's two mobs at the head of the dock who stand nose-to-nose, and can be split and pulled with a simple application of Soothe. The one closest to the dock is the placeholder for the named who drops the Worn Golden Tooth haste item. I was doing it the hard way by Soothing the two mobs along the street between the docks, Soothing those two near Windscorn, waiting on the patroller guards to be elsewhere, then pull to the far western dock.

Result of my time there: about 500pp total on 2- and 3-way splits, a Black Medallion, and a Worn Golden Tooth.

Now I'm waiting on my spirit brother to pop, and everything's golden.

1) In Dulaks, camp the first dock and kill Boat scrubbers and Boat Engineers for the Black Medallion. Loot is not bad, and I got mine after clearing the dock 3-4 times.

2) run to the Gulf of Gunthak....make sure you have ITU up and, as others have posted, avoid non undead...they agro and add up quickly. Very Importantly, Make sure you kill the 2 Underwater spawns as well as keeping the 5 mobs around the erudite spirit spawn point clear. A nice Necro (go figure) told me to kill them....after several hours of killing just the 5 spawns around the spawn point, and the Erudite spirit popped next spawn. Hope that saves some time.
Thses two spawns are inside and near the sunken ships along the shoreline (left of the spawn point, if your looking right at it.) Also, I have seen the Male Erudite listed as lv 60...this is incorrect...He conned Green to me at 56.
The spells are Nice, a 100 Hp per tick (4 ticks total) heal with a fast cast time...I use it in combat frequently. Also, the lv 52 Spell Light of Life (2nd part of this quest) is a 410 pt heal with a fast cast (1,5 sec. I believe. Both spells are worth it.

Hope this helps,

Good Luck....

The real way to spawn the Erudite Spirit

The additional information that you need to get the Erudite Spirit portion of the quest is as follows. First, the spawn point is roughly -1100 and -1100. By roughly, I mean within 25 to 60 feet. The spawn place is by the 2 rocks nearest to the large ship hull. Note: The spirit is not called a "Male Erudite Spirit" or "Female Erudite Spirit". Both spirits are simply named "Erudite Spirit" and they either APPEAR male or female. If you can not easily tell the difference in the sexes, hand the "Erudite Spirit" the Blackskull Necklace and if she says "I do not need this", then kill her to reset the spawn time. You do not appear to get a faction hit by killing the female spirit, and she is a VERY easy kill, same as the lowest level Skeletons. MOST IMPORTANTLY, neither male nor female "Erudite Spirit" will spaw at its spawn point if you are standing with 250 feet. I spent 7 horrible hours to find this out. Thanks to a wise and kind player (Thank you Xango) I was informed that you have to clear the 5 spawns that are within 25 feet of the 2 rocks, back up 250 feet or so, wait for 20 min after the last spawn of a spirit, or if no spirit is there when you start, anywhere from 1 Second to 20 min, then the Spirit will spawn, and you can go talk to it. This is how to do the "Erudite Spirit" portion of the quest from start to finish.

1. Invis yourself to undead. Proceed to -1100 and -1100 avoiding any NON-undead along the way. Go to rock piles. The rockpile closest to the large shipwreck is the spawn point. There are 5 Mobs that spawn by these rocks. They may or maynot be placeholders for the Spirit. Kill all five of them. THERE ARE NO PLACEHOLDER or UNDEAD further than 25 feet of the rocks that you need to kill to make spirits spawn! Kill the 5 place holders (Usually 3 skely's 1 Zombie and one NON-undead). Back up 250 feet, sit, wait. 20 min later, approach rocks or ship hull immediatly next to rocks and there is the spirit.

I hope this helps, if it does, send me a tell in game if you see me on the Fennin Ro server. Good luck to you all. and BTW the spell is VERY TOTALLY VERY MUCH WORTH IT. The spell rocks.

Wrong answer on the 250 foot theory.. I just finished the paladin quest, the male spirit spawned right in front of me, i was sitting on the rock about 4 feet from his spawn...

We just finished the Temperance quest for my wifes alt Cleric. The 250' theory is wrong! The spirit spawned right next to her. We knew where it was going to spawn and she sat there while I continued to rot-dot the sailor skellies. Only took about 15 minutes and the spirit spawned. Now to do the same with my young pally alt!!

The spawn spot is neg1105, neg1013, 19.75

the PH is a skelly

turning in the item does not make it spawn, it he only gives you the item to turn in. It is an uncommon spawn you must kill it's PH in order for it to spawn. if your lucky you will get it on next spawn cycle if your unlucky it can take you 10 cycles like me.

Well camped the trolls for a few hours.... then i got it from a friend... the black medallion is teh hardest part if u get it the rest is cake.
Note: the named ogre pirate is a udnercon.. BIG TIME. so stay away from him if ur 44 and soloing. id advise the tiny doc next to stormweaver in the corner above it is a safe spot no spawns there. also took me all my mana and and maybe down to 30 - 40 pct of my lives to get one DB mob. So this is best done as a group.

When i went to the ghost i kept to teh left wall and had invis undead on.... Note: there are scorpions that arent fooled by invis undead so keep an eye out.

I got a friend to sow and levitate me so the travel whent quick. when i handed it in he despawned and the troll next to him started attacking me.. Note: undead do not attack the eruditan spirit.

I ran away and zoned. this is where sow and levi comes in handy since u can start a pretty big train. at 44 all the udnead where LB.

Helped a 46 pally friend do this quest today after she had done the medallion part. She couldnt get her guildies to spare anyone; so I got C3 for my 53 nuker and off to the sunny, tropical, lovely beaches of Gunthak we went.
Now the coordinates listed in the quest description are better for showing YOU where to stand. We were sitting on top of the human-sized boulder right next to that location after having cleared the area for about an hour when I nuked one of those big-arse mosquitoes out of boredom. ::poof:: There pops "an Erudite spirit" out of the corpse. Looks just like one of those male students on the library level of Tower of Frozen Shadow. The exchange was made; spell received.
I love the graphics. The pally is bathed in a white column of light that stretches up to the heavens. VERY holy and Ten Commandments-ish.

Was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with this quest. I did it last night, turned in 'A Black Medallion', ran my butt over to the undead side, and there was nothing. I even had someone tracking for me, but the thing never popped. I petitioned to see if it was bugged, but didn't get a response in the next hour or two :-\

The sprirt spawns every 20-30 minutes as long as you keep the area around the boulders clear of undead. If you do not the evil undead will kill the erudite (male) spirit very quickly.

Greetings fellow Paladins!,
I have recently completed the quest with the help of the posts information from this area as well as the information posted under "A black Medallion" I have posted my story below;

Upon arriving in the Gulf of Gunthak run straight up the dock to the lighthouse. Enter the lighthouse and go the first merchant on your left. He is a gnome dressed pirate. He will sell you "Cloudy Potion" for a little over 10pp each. there is also a bank inside the lighthouse. Once you stock up on potions go back outside and near the edge of the cliff you will see a brightly dressed Erudian Paladin. This is Millius Darkwater. Talk to him to start you quest. Drink a cloudy potion and dive into the water. From him I swam south. I found nothing in the water that was harmful as long as you head south hugging the right side. You will come upon a large gate in the water this is the right side border of the zone continue south with that on your side. You will come to a beach with a wrecked boat. Hug the right side onto the beach. Stay right the hole time. You will pass numerous mobs so keep invis on. As long as you hug the right wall you will zone into Dulak just be patient.

Upon entering Dulak let the aone know you are looking for "A Black Medallion" I found that their are always high level players in the zone usually on one of the ships. The medallion is said to be a semi-rare drop so they will all know what you are talking about.

Next ask if there is anyone interested in hunting the dock area. Again use a cloudy potion to go invis hug the right side. You will pass a backside to several small buildings their is a still and usually 2 NPC's near it pass them and you will come out to the dock area. This is a fairly safe spot. Pull yous Mobs to the area just to the right of the first pier. The medallion drops the most off of Boat Scrubbers and Boat Engineers. There is always (1) scrubber and (1) engineer on the pier as well as a named NPC (Verag). Kill them and anything else in your general area. Be wary of the "Dock Patrolman" They are a bit of an undercon and have a lot of HP's It took me several hours but "A black medallion finally dropped off of " Boat Scrubber" The exp was very good and the mobs drop 3-5pp as well as gems every few kills.

Now head back to Millius Darkwater hand in the medallion for "a black skull necklace. Now cast invis Undead and head left instead of right when jumping in. Swim across to the beach. This is the undead side. You will know you are in the right area if you see a troll quest NPC "A shipwrecked hatestorm sailor" He conned indifferent to me with no invis on. Keep to the left wall and right after him you will see (2) boulders and a large wrecked ship.

Kill all the undead around the boulders. The "Erudite male spirit" spawned at the front of the second boulder closest to the ship.

These undead were mostly green with a fedw light blue. They also dropped 1-3pp and a few gems.

Good Luck to you all!

The Black Medallion drops in Gunthak, the town with the wooden fort in it. I was hunting there 2 nights ago when it dropped but sadly I didnt know I needed it and let it rot. Man after finding out I'm really kicking myself for it. :( So if you dont have a bunch of high level friends dont worry you can get it with a group of high 30's. (I recommend having an evacer though some times things go sour here and use soothe when pulling)

While I am encouraged by the above account from a 52 paladin I still find this quest ridicoulously difficult. I was camped on the Windscorn with a 59 druid, a 57 Shaman, a 52 pally and me a 55 pally. We were wiped out trying to get a drop for a freaking 44 spell!! VI needs to give Pally's a break somewhere we have a series of overly difficult quests for sub-standards rewards that start with the Ro armors and go right up thru the stupid, worthless epic. I pretty much bought LoY for these two spells since my other primary characters are a Bard and a Necro and their spells really suck. Now I find I can't, even with what should be a HEAVILY overpowered group, complete the damn quest.

I agree, and spending hours and hours (and HOURS) waiting for this stupid medallion to drop is just idiotic. Divine Might was a lot of travel, some tactics, some sneaking... but it was *FUN*. This Black Medallion section of the quest is so utterly pointless.

It's a times like these when you wonder if you should be doing something more productive with your life; you know, the hours and days you'll never see again because some programmer thought it would be a great idea to waste your time (and other people's, if you ask for help) by making you jump through hoops like these. I pay a monthly fee so after I'm done playing I can be frustrated and pissed off? I'd rather get a cat.

Look at the bright side... more bank space. Otherwise, LoY (charms?) has been a HUGE disappointment, imho.

(My apologies... just got back (empty-handed) from another four hour stint of getting my butt handed to me by light blue gnomish engineer mobs on the pier trying to find this p.o.s. medallion. This game stopped being fun a long time ago.)

An update: finally, finally, finally someone /ooc'ed that a Black Medallion was on an engineer's corpse near the Storm's docks. Asked my group if it was okay to leave for a moment then potion invised, dashed over and looted it quickly. Very, very happy to be done with this part of the quest although I'm still very disappointed at the total length of time it took to get it.

Turned it in to Millius and headed to the beach to wait for the ghost to pop. I cleared the general area around his spawn point just to pass the time; just west of the spawn point is a clear section of beach that's far enough away from any stationary mobs where you can sit and med in peace. Finally the Erudite spirit popped after about 45 minutes (the mobs around him were NOT attacking) so I pulled and "Nifed" the closest skelly, then pacified the rest of them and turned in the medallion.

The recycle time seems a bit long but the spell graphics are impressive; more than once you'll get a 'Whoa! What was that?' from someone close by to your intended target. Was it all worth it? Probably not, but the sparkly lights sure are pretty. =)

Don't waste your time in Gunthak killing trolls hoping for this to drop, spent a ton of time doing that...even going after trolls in dulak. I wasted alot of time killing mob that have no chance to drop the medallion. Save yourself tons of time, Kill the Harbor Fisherman/boat engineers/boat scrubbers on the dandolak docks, then work your way along the water towards the Lady Dirulia. Thats 3 docks to clear 8 or 9 mobs that can possibly drop the medallion. Instead of hours, it took me maybe 3 clearings of those 3 docks and I had my medallion. The male erudite ghost was up after I turned in the medallion at the lighthouse, the undead around him were *not* attacking him, easy hand in.

In Dulak, I first sensed dead, nice to get some use from that spell for once. No undead were up, so I went through the hidden wall and kept left until the octopus bridge, taking the first right about halfway across the bridge(invis worked great, nothing saw me). You will come to a small staircase leading down, and a single static luggald at the door way just past the stairs. What I did was, wait invis for the roamer to pass, then beat down the static mob, the roamer came back before it died, but root kept him out of the fight. Kill them both and wait. Don't let them run or you'll get more adds. Repop is something like 15 minutes, no need to go through the doorway as there are about 10 mobs in there which don't need to be killed unless you're bored/wanting insignias of slaying. Chester will spawn eventually and will float right past the spot you're sitting at (end of the hall opposite the stairs to octo bridge). I don't know if he ever stops, I just ran after him, handed in the necklace and made a hasty relocation to the zone as a dozen mobs plus a now angry Chester were a bit much even for me solo, even at 65. Hope this helps clear up some confusion, Troll Plunderers didnt drop any medallions the 3 days I sat out there. Don't waste your time in Gunthak killing them. Good Luck and enjoy the spells.

Complete Quest

I've yet to see it, so here's my result of doing the complete quest:

It wasn't that difficult, and I solo'd the whole thing. Keep in mind, that I had plenty of Cloudy Potions (inviso) and Kei cast on me. 10x Blood of Wolf Potion and Divine Aura memmed. ...here we go:

I camped Dulak. Roaming from dock to dock killing every boat engineer I found (gnomes or haflings---cant' keep ya straight). I'd use a CP potion, get in front of the mob, or stratigically located so I wouldn't grab additional aggro. This took me about 10 hours (broken time). After a kill with no result, heal, inviso, move to next...repeat.
After finally dropping, I inviso'd and ran back to Millius Darkwater near the lighthouse in Gunthak to do turn-in. From there, I re-inviso'd and went to Neg 1100, Neg 1100 on the beach. Should have done Inv vs Undead, as the mobs on that side are all skelly's and undead.
After killing 6 green mobs on me, I sat on top of the rock and waited for the Male Eurdite Ghost to spawn (respawn is 20min). While waiting, save yourself some headache and kill the skelly mobs that spawn around the double neg 1100 area.
The Male Erudite Ghost spawned and I handed him my black skull necklace and received 1x Ethereal Cleansing spell and 1x Glowing Black Skull Necklace.
Here comes the "tricky" part....
Being solo, my strategy was to run to Chester inviso'd, pacify the mobs around him, and do my turn-in. I knew he attacks after the turn-in and had no idea what he casted/meleed for. So I memmed Divine Aura. I figured I'd hit that, and run like heck to zoneline with my "train" hotkey spamming away. ...the actual account is coming...

Chester is a male ghost that spawns in the tunnels behind the hidden wall in Dulak. Once inside Dulak, follow the left wall around to the wood wall.....the secret tunnel is about 2/3 across from the left. Once inside the tunnel, follow it straight to the rock bridge....don't fall in. (I haven't, and don't know how bad your CR would be). Make a right at the "T" intersection on the bridge. You'll come up on a stairway down with an open doorway to the left. I've found Chester on those stairs, as well as the two other rooms that the stairs lead to.

Ok...so here's where plan and actual go slightly askew. In my previous 10x in that room, Chester doesn't move when you approach him. Evidently, he senses you want to do a turn in, and starts moving out of the rooms, up the stairs and down the tunnel back towards the bridge. The funny part is that he's moving past about 15 mobs in his travel... I got into the room and started chasing him with medallion in hand. The problem with this is that by him moving, I was unable to establish a safe spot to pacify the mobs and move in.
Thus, I panic'd at him goin on the move, and immediately started clicking on him with my medallion in hand. ....This nullified my inviso, and my aggro went thru the roof.
When I finally got the "Give" window to pop up on Chester, I was waaay back at the bridge, with 10-15 mobs beating on me, and my health bar quickly fading to "you are out of food and water" status.
I hit GIVE just in time and got my Light of Life spell!
Immediately, I hit LoH, cast Divine Aura, and started running to the zoneline.....spamming all the way.

In hindsight, a little agonizing watching Chester on the move, but the end result is that I completed this quest solo at 52. And, can tell you all where all the loot for the 2 spell prizes are!

Dulak's Harbor

Hope this long-winded post helps a bit but I got the medallion last night in the harbor after trying and dying to get it by the fort in Gunthak.

We were fighting from the Lady Durhin, pulling from the long pier, dock and what popped on the boat itself. A few of the little engineers popped and were dropped (they're supposed to have the medallion more often than not) but no medallion on any of them. One of the seemingly thousands of things up the ramp was "A Harbor Fisherman" and boom, it had the medallion on it! I was shocked and only saw one other drop in the five hours we were on that darn boat. The other one dropped off of a Drusilia (or something like that) Crewmember. So, I'm positive this is just a random drop from just about anything on or near the boats.

The nice thing is a good small group can easily hold a spot to the left of the ramp leading up onto the boat and unless you stray too close to the middle, you won't have any adds. We had a shaman (43), pallie (53), druid (57) and a Rogue (51) and did just great the entire night. It wasn't bad exp with that small of a group, nothing ever ran with snare, we could evac if needed, the rogue was backstabbing ahoy, the pally was tanking and the shaman was doing all her shaman stuff...

Anyway, hope this helps. Now I have to worry about the whole male spirit thing possibly not spawning for me :(

****** edited ******

I did the Male Spirit turn in thing this weekend . The spirit does appear by the rocks at the loc given but is definitely random. We killed *everything* in a huge radius around the rocks first and then I turned in the medallion fully expecting the spirit to spawn in 20 minutes. But he didn't... After talking to a few Pallie friends, I found out that he's one of the four things that spawn by the rock every 20 minutes (three in front and one hiding behind by the zone wall). So, what I thought would be a quick 20 minute jaunt in Gunthak turned into about 1.5 hours (4 total spawns) of waiting. But, it's not too bad considering some of my friends waitied over four hours for him to pop in place of one of the four undead things. The other trick to keeping him alive when he does finally spwan, in case you lost track of your timer or are away clearing things for fun, is to kill the undead around the rock in a staggered order, about five minutes or so apart. That way, when he does pop, the other ones don't jump him as they're reported to do...

Getting the Spirit to spawn

I too have spent a lot of time trying to finish this quest but the spirit has not yet spawned for me. I have seen the female spirit spawn three times in an hour, but no male spirit. Is there a place holder and if so what is it. I also spent hours just killing undead in hopes that he would spawn - there must be some trick.

Just had to post my frustration with this ever-lovin quest. Spent 4 hours killing trolls around fort last night.

1. Cleric quest - item dropped.
2. Druid quest - item dropped.
3. Pally quest - nothing, nada, zip, zilch.

Gave up after 4 hours because it turned into a pally convention. 5 pallys in zone all killing trolls for this blessed drop.

One more night and then I give up.

4 hours? Try 3 days off and on for me. I camped that place and 4 Cleric quest spell pieces dropped. I /ooc'ed but nobody wanted them. Well I'm off to the second part... finding Chester.
Spirit no longer KOS to other undead?

Well I found the male spirit - He had a skellie and a zombie as close neighbors so I don't think you have to worry about other undead killing him any more. Now I I could just get one of the trolls to drop the piece :( 9 trolls so far

For me, the male erudite spirit spawned at -1105, -1014, which is a different spot as someone else reported.
Seems that he can spawn in several, if not all undead spots. The -1100/-1100 area is just a likely spot because of the high concentration of undead.

OK, its not hard at all to get the medallion. I camped in Gunthak for 7 hours with no drop, i went to Dulak Harbor and heard 6 had roted in about 20 mins, and in 10 mins I had 1 solo at LVL 50. I fought the "a ship scrubber" and other boat type people on the right side of zone as you go in. Make life alot easyer.

There are many times that Verant appears not to be able to distinguish between what is challenging and what is tedious. Just in case anyone from Verant is wandering by these boards here's a clue: The Paladin quest for the Ethereal Cleansing spell is tedious.

Took me about 6 hours total to get the drop. NOW it seems that camp leads to ANOTHER camp for the male Erudite Spirit. I camped him about 3 hours last night. No luck. Not a single sign of the guy. The female Erudite Spirit WAS up, but more than one place said to hold out for the male.

"If you keep the surrounding area clear of undead while you wait for him to spawn you should not have any problems when he does spawn."

Not true. I killed ALL undead within site, used the ol' sense the dead and killed them BEYOND sight, ran like a fool all over hell's creation killing undead that even THOUGHT of spawing in the zone, no dice. I had a yound Necro accompanying me that could actually get exp from the mobs, and collected the bonechips as they feel, si lifetime supply for him.

/rude Verant.

This is just dumb. I understand Verant wanting to "encourage" folks to see the new zones. Heck, I paid for them, so you KNOW I'll get around to it in my own time!
