Redlin Hullnic is sitting on the ground outside one of the houses at +1605, +115 in the Gulf of Gunthak.

You say, 'Hail, Redlin Hullnic'

Redlin Hullnic says 'Eh, who's there? Yender is that you? No you're far too tall to be Yender. You must be one o' them [pirates]!' Redlin then begins to beat furiously on your ankle with his staff. Furiously might be a slightly strong word, as he doesn't seem to be doing any real damage.'

You say, 'I am not a pirate.'

Redlin Hullnic says 'Not a pirate, aye? Well lucky thing for you, I would have given you a real thrashing with my stick if you were! I don't suppose you know where I could get a good pair of gnomish glasses around here do ya? Mine broke on the boat ride over and I can't see a thing without 'em.'

From here, head to Dulak and go to loc -220 -240. You need to kill Architect Vaukin, whose placeholder is "a lead engineer," or Konus Alatuk (PH is the gnome version of "a lighthouse operator"). Spawn time for Vaukin is around 20-25 mins. The Architect has about 2600 hp (seemed like more when I was fighting him, but wasn't really keeping track), but is not resistant at all. Loot Gnomish Spectacles, a NO DROP item. Hand this item back into Redlin and you will receive Vision Shift.

Redlin Hullnic takes the spectacles from your hands and puts them up to his eyes and blinks several times. Many thanks, Snowtop! I don't know what I would have done without you. Probably stagger around the island half blind for the rest of my life! At any rate I can repay you with a little trick I picked up along the way. If you ever get in a jam, hopefully you won't be as forgetful as I was!' He hands you a scroll with several runes scrawled across it.
You gain experience!!

I'm sorry but this quest doesn't deserve to be posted about except to complain about it. Why the hell would a wizard need infravision/see invis when familiars last for 6 hours with see invis and we get a self levitation with infra built in?
I seriously hope Lost Dungeons of Norrath has some majorly better wizard spells coming...

Wizzys get this spell not just for themself but can cast it on Others aswell. thats what makes it good
RE: sigh
# Sep 16 2003 at 3:49 PM Rating: Good
Targetable, hour lasting Ultravision and See-invis. Means I'll have to cast see invis less often during the grind where it's needed, IE: coterie, velks, etc.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 19 2003 at 11:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Agreed. This spell isnt even the time i took to look it up here.

I would say because you can cast it on other people...

I've actually had several requests for this believe it or not. It helps human/erudite tanks see when they're pulling, or just trying to follow you hehe.

Clerics get temperance (very nice buff), rangers get swarm of pain (good dot), shamans stoicism (very nice heal over time), and wizards...get see invis and infravision??? Hmm...what is up with that?

Just wanted to include our findings, we camped the lil lead engineer and after 6 kills, pop goes Architect Vaukin! Dont give up, he will do it. We just sat in the corner and waited for the pop, killing each one with no adds at all.
So, kill lead engineer 6 times, about 20 mins each.. and then Vaukin pops.
Architect Vaukin
# May 23 2003 at 5:19 PM Rating: Decent
Architect Vaukin spawned for me on the sixth PH, so he does exist. I pulled to a camp on a boat so as to do more than one thing at a time. The turn-in was worth 5% xp at level 48. Not much of a spell, too bad it doesn't give EB like the enchie LoY vision buff, Leviathan Eyes.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 16 2003 at 10:49 AM, Rating: Unrated, (Expand Post) easy way to get all of the loy spells in less than 1 hour each at level 35 solo

Konus Alatuk will also drop gnomish spectacles. He spawns at loc -480,-1100 in the lighthouse. His placeholder the only Gnome version of a lighthouse operator.

Well, we can all consider this quest officially nerfed. Spent an entire day and night trying to get specs. Started by camping the lead engineer at correct spot and killing him 10 times in a row with the 20min wait in between each one. no Vaukin to be had. Then, killed gnomish lighthouse operator 6-7 times in a row while killing the other again in between spawn times. nothing. What a waste of time. NO, these mobs certainly DO NOT spawn. Unless, it takes a week. ridiculous.

Same story. I killed the lead engineer for more than 8 hours and never saw Architect Vaukin. Killed the lighthouse operator twice and got Konus Alatuk who dropped the spectacles.

I killed the ph for both of these named for several hours. I never did see Architect Vaukin spawn. Konus Alatuk did spawn and dropped the spectacles. Spawn time for both ph was 20 minutes.
