Go to the Gulf of Gunthak. The NPC you're looking for is Millius Darkwater, and he's on the left side of the lighthouse from the direction you zone in. He's standing on the edge of the platform looking out over the water.

Your Location is 1324.49, -100.93, 3.13

Millius Darkwater regards you indifferently -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

You say, 'Hail, Millius Darkwater'

Millius Darkwater lifts his sword out of the water at his feet and scans his eyes across you. 'Hello, ______. The waters stir angrily today. Prexus is not pleased at the tarnishing of his waters by the spawn of Innoruuk. The Deepwater Knights have been trying to locate this [place] for many years.'

You say, 'What place?'

Millius Darkwater says 'The legends of Broken Skull Rock have been whispered for years. Indeed several of our greatest vessels were lost while in search of this island. Many of our [knights] died trying to cleanse Prexus' waters of this great Evil.'

You say, 'What knights?'

Millius Darkwater says 'Most recently a Cavalier named Chester Steelblade went in search of the legend. He was gone at sea for months before we received word from him. The letter we received spoke of a map that he'd found as well as a somewhat cryptic reference to having found the [key] to Broken Skull Rock. One of our [clerics] took a small group out in search of him, but we have received no news from either group.'

You say, 'What key?'

Millius Darkwater says 'Chester was not very clear as to what he found, some sort of black stone skull from what was in his writings.. We're sure that he must have found something that led him here. We have found no sign of him or his crew yet. Truthfully it would be a miracle if he were still alive. I follow his path in hopes that I can continue his work where he left off. If he is dead then his spirit may yet linger here. Tied to this world by his unfinished task.'

You say, 'What clerics?'

Millius Darkwater says 'The cleric that went in search of Chester's crew is called Alina Crystalia and she was barely more than a student when she left. We didn't want to let her go, but ultimately we had little say in the matter. She was always very fond of Chester. She may have in fact found him, although I suspect too late to save either of them. Clerics of Prexus are required to carry with them a Deepwater Emblem to identify them, if nothing else I hope to find Alinia's emblem to return it to Erudin.'

Now you have to get "A Deepwater Emblem," which appears to drop off of random mobs in Dulak and Gunthak. It looks like a silver ring with a large black stone in it. I got mine on one of the docks in Dulak harbor, seem to be more common of the Crew of the ships in Dulak. I heard someone in ooc get theirs at the fort in Gunthak. The drop comes down to luck. I got mine in about 15 min, some people camp for 2 days. Once you have the emblem, take it back to Millius.

Millius Darkwater bows his head quietly as his eyes bring recognition to his mind. 'Alina at least has met a bitter end. Her spirit surely lingers nearby. Find her and free her from her burden, ______. Her quest goes unfinished.
You gain party experience!!

He gives you back "Alina's Emblem," which looks the same as the old emblem. Now go to the beach south of the lighthouse and kill undead until the female version of "an erudite spirit" spawns. The male version is for one of the pally quests. I found her at loc (neg 855, neg 670) after killing several "a savage skeletal sailor." I heard someone else say they'd seen her on the eastern side of the beach and also mentioned the savage skeletons being her PH, respawn time at 16 minutes. So, if you run around killing the savage skeletons, she should pop for you.

On the beach with the wrecked ships in Gulf of Gunthak (approx. neg840, neg675) an erudite spirit spawns. Cons Indifferent to all.

Turn in Alina's Emblem to the spirit.

You gain experience!!
an erudite spirit is surrounded by a warm glow as the ring touches her ethereal form. Her lips curl into a smile as she begins to fade away into the mist. You hear something fall to the ground. You notice a wet scroll half buried in the sand. You reach down and pick it up.
You gain party experience!!
You have received Spell: Temperance.

5 mins to get to ship, 2 mob killed dropped the emblem. ported back to pok then zoned in and made trip to spawn point and they were up. Maybe 10 mins and I saved around 36pp. But its kind of a rite of passage for a young cleric to quest for temperance.

On Mischief (randomized loot), it took less than 10 minutes to get the Deepwater Emblem.

It took 7 hours of camping and clearing the mobs by the loc for female Erudite spirit before she spawned.

In other words, this quest has gotten no better. Smiley: bah

I just did this on Phinigel server.

She does in fact spawn on the ground next to the wrecked boat. (NOT on the boat or under it)
If you stand at n860, n670 you can kill the PH's and do the hand in when she spawns.

PH's were 16 minutes.
I killed 9 of them before she spawned.

I don't think you need to kill any mobs around the area... but I killed them out of pure boredom.
Other posts indicated that you just need to kill the PH where she spawns.

By the way, I did this at Level 61... 1 big undead nuke and 1 baby nuke was enough to kill PH's.

Good luck.

It may work but the camp for the Erudite is horrible. You either get lucky and she's up or you sit here for 8+ hours a shot. I've been at this camp for 5 1/2 hours SO FAR and nothing but savage skeletons.

Spell is worth it but this is something even Verant wouldn't have done to us. =P

Excellent. Added info to quest and added location and ph info to the erudite spirit NPC page.

I haven't heard anyone asking for a Temp for a long time. The Defiant gear makes it easy to max out your hit points and AC so Temp really isn't needed any longer.I was already over 3k HP myself by the time I got the spell which is more than enough for the places I go. I don't use any of my HP or AC buffs very much at all. Just as an example, I wiped out the entire group of sand giants in North Ro (they drop nice coin, gems and fine steel) and only lost about 25% of my HP without being buffed. A cleric going around swatting giants en masse like that is amazing.

800 hps, 48ac, sticks to lvl 1. This is the only buff you need at the lowbie lvls. Even full defiant gear, you only have 200 hps at lvl 10.

well if you have all the gear you can use and get a temp you still have more hps , and running around with a merc killing stuff helps a lot too the game is easier to play solo now a days but still more fun in groups

umm just bc the gear gives you the hps the buff still gives you more hps and increases the amount of hps you can rec. so just bc you have a full set of def gear you should still buff yourself.

Hit level 40 and ported to Gunthank from PoK,

Hailed Millius as instructed. Headed to Dulak's and went to WaveCrasher boat, on 4th crew member I got emblem...took about 5 or 6 minutes,

Headed back to Gunthanks and turned in emblem to milnius...headed to beach, lady erudite was sitting there like she loved me, turned in Alia's Emblem and got spell.

Cake. Oh yeah, everything on the left side of the beach is undead so load up invis versus undead to make it easier to get to her...you don't need to if you are good with agro radius's but it is easier if you do :)

Cheers,

be sure you turn it into the spirit at the boat if the one by the wall simply says she doesn't need the emblem and hands it back to you

Good lord this lady didn't spawn for over 3 hours. She spawned at /loc -840 -675 as everybody else here has been saying, but at first I sat in front of that spot and did probably about 5 to 6 cycles. Each time a crappy skelly spawned. Then I started killing as many of the mobs there as possible (as in running around the beach killing everything) and eventually the spirit spawned.

I have a theory. Can it be that there are multiple placeholders and when the spirit is triggered she always spawns at the same place? So if there is a placeholder elsewhere on the beach, you have to kill that before having a chance of spirit spawning at -840 -675? That postulate seems to make sense, although it might just be that I had to go through enough cycles for the correct spawn.

At any rate I lost count of how many times I killed that skelly at -840 -675. Probably around 10 to 14 times.

Incidentally there is a male erudite spirit that spawns by a rock right by the wall. I didn't know if he prevented the female erudite spirit to spawn, so I killed him anyway. There are no faction hits so you might just as well kill it.

Just did it for my baby cleric both parts took under 30 mins, got emblem off crew member on Lady D. boat & then just sat by spirit's spawn loc while killing all skellies around on a 56 warrior. Got spell after turn in to Spirit, so on Maelin quest isn't broken, and erudite spirit spawns. Just keep killing I guess :-\

I have contacted sony about the problem and they say that she is on track and others have done thiers since but I am having noluck. Any ideas?
update
# Oct 27 2007 at 6:35 PM Rating: Decent
Both parts can be quick or take a lot of time... It's all about luck (like everything in EQ lol..)

I killed everyone on the two boats (the southern ones "lady" and something else.) It took about an hour- four clears of each boat to get it to drop.

As for the second part I cleared the harbor sand area of all undead for about an hour with no erudite spirit spawns. I logged and came back tonight and she was up on track!

One serious WARNING there are some level 75'ish mobs in the corner of the sand beach who look just like the level 35 skeles but make no mistake they will instagib you. They hit for over 1000, cast some nasty spells and run very fast (bard can outrun them but still..)
just got my temp spell =)

hope this helps someone ....go to dulark harbor and get to the Dandolak's Run boat/ship the emblem drops there alot....go to the east side of the beach for ring turn in after u talk to the guy by lighthouse...the loc for her to spawn is right on...do /loc in chat window and will bring it up...my husband and i killed the skele where she spawns and out of boredome killed the area around her... she spawned after 2-3 times of killing the skelle ...got the spell from her ....showed up on my curser...have fun and stay safe =)
just got my temp spell =)
# Sep 11 2007 at 8:34 PM Rating: Decent
Thanks for that... I spent quite some time on other boats with no luck. Referred to this post, and moved immediately to Dandolak's and got my emblem just from 1 clearing of the mobs (on the bottom part of the boat only).

Spawning the FES

31 posts
This may be another EQ urban myth, and I appologize if it is, but this is what I was taught and it seems to work.

First, get emblem, turn into Millius.

Second, go to beach, kill PH.

Now, kill the 6 mobs that mark a 200' semi-circle in front of FES spawn-point.
Rough diagram as follows,

..............Mob XXXXX
..............XXXXXXXXXX Mob
X.............Mob XXXXX
X......................................Mob
X......................................XXX
X......................................XXX
X......................................XXX
X.FES................................XXX
X......................................XXX
X.......................................X
X........................
X...............XXX
X...............XXX
X...............Mob
X................X
X...............XXX
X...............XXX
X................X
X...............Mob
.....................

X marks boats area.

PLEASE NOTE! ; You must be outside of the 200' zone when the PH spawns. being in this area messes up the cycle!
Clear this pattern, and she usually spawns for me in less than three cycles, should be about an hours worth of killing.

Hope it helps!

Getting the emblem is easy. It's only the Deckhands who have it and only on the "D" Boats. When I went there 2 dropped right away. The female Erudite Spirit, I believe, can always be found at -875 -669 in the Gulf. Hope it helps.

I can confirm this, I camped my 38 Cleric on one of the "D" boats (forgot which one) and then logged in my 68 Monk and got 2 from deckhands. I got ther first one right away and decided to clear some of the other mobs so my cleric could loot it without trouble; then a second one dropped off another deckhand. This has proven to be the easy part of the quest; my cleric is now nearly 41 from killing placeholders and other stuff in Gunthak, but still no Erudite ghost :-/

Probably spent all of 15 minutes on this quest. Simply clear Dandolak and Dirulia boats, along with any boat scrubbers along the way. And atleast one deepwater emblem will drop. Talked to the guy I got it off of and he said he had been seeing them all day and he was just on Dandolak boat. If the zone is clear, just ask a high level friend (if you have any) to just take 10-15 minutes of their time to clear the two boats. You'll be done with this quest in no time. However I think the female spirit is where the hard part comes in. However her spawn rate seems decent, earlier posts stated 1-3 kills of PHs

Also got lucky with the female spirit being up at the time I recieved alina's emblem.

I would say soloable at 43+

I have come to the conclusion the spawn locations of both the male and female eurodites is not random. My friend and I have been camping the ghost off and on trying to turn in his quest item. Like many people we have been circling the entire beach pretty much killing everything in sight. There has been 3 times the male eurodite spawned in the exact same spot in the corner of the beach.

Finnally I came to this website and noticed the previous posters location. We started killing mobs anywhere near that area and sure enough the female spawned right near that beached boat. I would recommened following Blueviolets advice.

All that being said I have to say this was a rather annoying quest. Camping the emblem in Dulak was cool because it is a fun zone with blue and white con mobs, good exp, good loot etc. But it really sucks having to come back Gunthack and hunt green/lightblue mobs trying to spawn the final turn in mob. Just doesn't seem right making somebody hunt a higher lvl zone then turning around and killing mobs for no exp till the quest npc spawns.

Anyways hope this helps, very nice reward in fact probably the best spell out of the whole expansion.

**EDIT**

Oh forgot to mention WE hunted Dulaks for several hours. We both thought any mob in that zone could drop the deepwater emblem. After hunting trash mobs (IE scouts, guardians near zone in) we got no elbem. Then some guildies showed up and we started camping the boats and sure enough one of the mobs on the boat dropped it. I am sorry I didn't note the exact mobs name, but it does seem the boat mobs are the ones who drop it.

Guide to Getting Spell: Temperance
# May 08 2006 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
Hope this helps summarise (although I do tend to be wordy, sorry).

1. Starts in Gulf of Gunthak. Just in case, talk to Millius Darkwater at the lighthouse first. Go through the usual question and answer routine. There are no surprises or odd responses needed. Location:left of the lighthouse as you go towards it from they POK book entry. He is standing on the edge of the platform looking out over the water. (loc pos 1315, neg 99). (I say, "just in case" because I suspect you can skip this whole thing, and just do the turn in...)

2. Then go to Dulak to get the A Deepwater Emblem. Take friends of 40+ with you. Swim to the beach in the Gulf, then through the caves to the zone line. The way to the zone line is filled with live and undead MOBs that will attack you. You will need invis to get there, and sow should help as well. Once in Dulak, go to the ships and kill almost every mob on the ship until the Emblem drops. ALTERNATIVELY: (a) send out OOC's stating that you seek the Emblem and would appreciate a tell or shout if it is found. (b) check rotting bodies on the piers (that is how I found mine). You may come accross one in the fort section of the Gulf, but that is much rarer.

3. Return to the Gulf. Hand the emblem to Millius and he gives you Alina's Emblem.

4. Return to the beach in the Gulf of Gunthak. You need to hand Alina's Emblem to the female Erudite Spirit and she will give you the Spell. The female Erudite Spirit is always located at approx. neg 855, neg 670 on the beach, just in front of some boat debris not that far from the cave entrance, facing the eastern wall.

The posts tell of 2 placeholders: one, a skellie that stands right where she appears and another skellie in the water, under a beached boat near the eastern wall. Other posts say that you must kill the male erudite spirit. *Do not kill the male erudite spirit!* Both spirits are often up at the same time. The male Spirit is used for a pally quest and it would be a rotten thing to kill a quest NPC.

Other posts say the Spirit will appear when you clear the beach. I am not sure that is true cause and effect. Based on my own experiences, I suggest you arrive on the beach in the morning for your server, when not many are playing and you might find both Spirits up, as I did. The beach definitely was not "cleared".

In my own case, my group killed both suggested placeholders and waited. The beach was being pretty well cleared by other groups. I killed the placeholders again, but gave up waiting after about 2 hours. I returned a few hours later, killing the skellie in the water on my way to check out the spawn spot. The Spirit was there and I did my hand in and received the Spell. The next morning I returned to the beach. Both Spirits were up, and there were no players on the beach. So, I am not sure these really are placeholders. To repeat myself...try an "off" time first....

For those asking, "At what level can I do this quest?, evidently it will start for you at any level...as long as you can get the a deepwater emblem, you can get the spell and just wait till you are at level 40, when you can memorise it.

Hope you have as much fun with this quest as I did.

BV

The locations are correct. All you have to do is kill the skelie on the boat that is underwater on the eastern water side. And she will pop at the said location.

Do not attempt any of the hand-ins if you are in shroud form. I was in rogue shroud to attempt the run to the female erudite when I handed in the emblem to Millius. Unfortunately, it gave me a response of "Millius Darkwater appears to be too busy to talk to you," and did not return the emblem in any fashion
