Go to Gunthak and talk to Kardin Nillic at +1646, +50 to get the quest (you can skip this part).

You say, 'Hail, Kardin Nillic'

Kardin Nillic lifts his gaze from the whitened corpse lying on the bed in front of him. He holds the pale fingers tightly in his hands. As he opens his mouth to speak you shiver as what you thought was a corpse makes a soft moaning sound on the bed next to him. 'What business do you have here? Death grows near for him, what comfort can you hope to bring him in this [plagued] place?

You say, 'What plagues this place?'

Kardin Nillic says 'The plague of Innoruuk has infested this island. We now know that many of the fish that can be caught here are diseased and should not be eaten. Of course this knowledge does little to abate the fevers of those already stricken. The Broken Skull pirates seem to be mysteriously [immune] to this plague.'

You say, 'How are they immune?'

Kardin Nillic says 'Somehow the pirates are able to avoid becoming ill from eating the fish here. We know they're eating the same manner of fish that we are, but something else must be protecting or perhaps curing them of the toxins in the fish. In fact, they seem to always be in good spirits with the boisterous racket of [singing] and fighting that echoes over the island every fortnight.'

You say, 'What singing?'

Kardin Nillic snickers softly. 'The pirates apparently enjoy songs at meal time. A group of bards seem to have joined them. They sound as if they were trained at the Wind Spirit's Song, but the faded song pages I've seen of theirs read like students of Marsheart's. All the pages I've seen have been faded and largely illegible or I would know for sure.

Next, go to Dulak's Harbor and kill A Broken Skull Troubadour (known location -690, -645; inside the Tavern on the docks). Loot the Faded, Watermarked Book from its corpse and bring it to Kardin Nillic.

Take this book and give it to Kardin Nillic.

Kardin Nillic begins to flip through the pages of the faded song book. He studies one page, shakes his head and then flips through several more pages. Finally a smile of recognition creeps across his lips and he chuckles, "Definitely a student of Jusean, but there's something else. Some of the chords are unfamiliar even to me. You'll have to ask Evanesque to take a look at them. Maybe he can tell you who wrote it."

You receive a Faded Songbook.

Go to South Qeynos and give the Faded Songbook to Jusean Evanesque. He is located outside the bard guild.

Jusean Evanesque peers intently through several pages of the book, mumbling quietly under his breath as he does. His gaze falls on to one page in particular, and his eyes begin to widen as they pass over each line. He begins scribbling frantically across the pages in between the lines. "Take this. Whoever wrote it was obviously a student of my father. The style is unmistakable. I've written some notes up for you so it should be easier to read. Take this back to Kardin and he'll teach it to you."

You receive a Transcribed Songbook. Take this to Kardin Nillic.

Kardin Nillic takes the book from you and begins to hum the tune scawled on the pages. As you listen, you notice the whitened body next to Kardin cough. He seems to have regained some of his strength. You begin to notice that as Kardin sings the tune, his friend is regaining strength. By the end of the song, he is able to prop himself up on one arm and reach toward Kardin. "So now we know the secret of the pirate's health. The power of the song keeps the disease at bay. Thank you for saving my friend, Loanni. We are in your debt, but we are even more in debt to whoever it was that wrote this song. Whoever it was certainly has much to offer a student of music."

You receive a copy of Song: Aria of Asceticism.

Fairly easy quest. Troubador always spawns on a 16-17 minute timer in the bar. But doesn't always drop the page. Took my main bard 2 spawns. Box bard has taken around 5-10 hours. Link to the video guide: https://youtu.be/trGZRi8-OLo

So, I did the quest with my Prexus worshipping bard, and I noticed you didn't have all the quotes of what the NPCs say, so I skipped a step, so here is the rest. After you get the book from the Erudite fraud of a bard.

Off to Qeynos I go and talk to my Bard Guild with the newly titled Faded Songbook.

I now have a Transcribed Songbook and back to the gulf.

Tada! Song!

I'm level 46. Invis your way in, and just stand right behind the spawn point and fight. It won't run and the patrons at the table next to you (despite their proximity) won't add. Have a tank merc with me but I could solo it tbh.

just thought i would mention that there are TWO taverns/bars in dulak... you are looking for the one that is in between the docks over on the south edge of the zone, in between the Stormwave and the Lady Dirulia. This tavern has a shark's jaw/teeth look to its entrance and other doorways inside. the troubador spawns at loc -687, -650. Watch out for the hole in the floor for the shark pit =)

camping book
# May 11 2005 at 9:46 PM Rating: Default
I am camping this pretty easly at lvl 45. I am pretty well equiped but not sure that has much to do with it. what i do is click my jboots(sow potions will work too) then i go invs i calm the tavren wench. i target the troubadour between the bar and the beam and charm(have to be careful but the calm should give you a good 6 seconds plus) and charmed him with the minute long charm. some times the room would agro others he wwould walk right out if he came out solo i'd stick him on stuff around the bar(the wandering guard killed him pretty quick the others only took 20% a mob) main things i had memed were invs charm and snare. as long as you pay attention and far enough away from the mobs it's not to hard. Just run out in the end.

PS as to location find the loc mentioned in the quest or others peoples posts.

EDIT took me about 10 spawns+ to get my book but woot i got my song now

dont know if this cos im a druid, or if this is opening to a new quest.

next to him lays 'a pale corpse'.

You say, 'Hail, Kardin Nillic'
Kardin Nillic looks up at you and says in a hushed voice. 'Please be quiet. My friend is very ill and loud noises seem to cause him even more pain. I fear he will die soon. Please allow his final moments to pass in relative peace.'
ugh...

Troubadour spawn time
# Mar 11 2004 at 8:13 PM Rating: Decent
Spawn time on the Troubadour is 18 minutes from when he drops. Easily soloable with a 57 bard. Pacify the four near the front and pull the Troubadour to the front of the tavern where it is safe to kick his butt.
Quest

Did the quest today as at 55; was rather simple. Solo-pulling the troubadour out of the bar isn't too hard, they don't seem to assist at all, but I imagine it would get rather boring, so I recommend killing other things in the area. A lot of it was DB even at 55, and the two chefs in the room behind the troubadour are both DB and drop nice gems. Two pathed wanderers outside were always blue also (I forget their names, both were some kind of 'guardian,' one was a troll and one was an iksar). In any case, book dropped off troubadour on 5th kill, and he WAS dark blue, but I'd had him spawn DB one other time before, and that time he didn't have it. I don't think level has anything to do with it, I've never heard of a mob for which the level at which it spawns affects its loot.

Oh, and got 7 blues of AAXP and ~500pp there during the time of the camp, so was overall a useful way to pass the time.
pop time
# Dec 14 2003 at 10:49 PM Rating: Decent
Troubadour was on same pop timer as rest of mobs in bar today, about 20 minutes. Dropped book on 4th kill...
Faded Watermark Book
# Nov 05 2003 at 5:49 PM Rating: Decent
My 55 shaman found this out. If the Troubadour is Dark Blue to me he drops the book. Always does when he cons dark blue, but if he cons light blue like he normally is he just drops words. So that may help someone out if they are level 55. =/

Another way to kill the Troubadour.
# Oct 16 2003 at 11:38 AM Rating: Decent
I've killed the Troubadour a few times now, but haven't been lucky yet. I don't like camping for spawns though so I only kill him if I'm wandering through Dulak. Anyway, here's how I kill him and at the same time I take out some treasure sorters. I invis, walk into the bar, hit the troubadour with my horn and run out. The first time I did this I brought the whole bar out with me. :)) I was around lvl 51. Anyway, I take them right out in front of the bar and agro everything there, the whole time chanting down the troubadour. After the troubadour is dead I charm one of the mobs in my swarm and start a swarm kite. While they are all beating up my pet I loot the troubadour, I haven't got the book yet though. If no one is down by the docks, I usually take the swarm down there and add shady treasure sorters, and everything else down there) to the swarm to get the lute. (I have the lute now, so I mainly just make it one big swarm hoping to get a few decent gems.)

Waiting till at least lvl 49 would make this alot easier solo, (because of selo's acceleration chorus), but there's plenty of room in Dulak to do a normal swarm and never get hit. Just make sure there's nobody camping the treasure sorters before you take your swarm down there.

I never really considered lamenting the bar and single pulling the Troubadour before. That should work great though. I just like the excitement of a good swarm. :D
LOVE this place
# Sep 22 2003 at 9:17 PM Rating: Decent
1st get yer lvl 8 calm song out, use it on all mobs inside, except troubadour (main room only). Preferably do this witha horn of some sort.

2nd Charm troubadour, walk out of restaurant.

3rd, sick him on the guy outside, then on guy farth to left (exiting restaurant) rinse and repeat, when troubadour hits about 10% (after 3 guys for me) i charm the other mob, sic him on the troubadour and troubadour dies after i snare.

NOTE : my songs are as follows : Invis, 3 dots (any) , speed song (chorus if ye have it, otherwise beg a sow or use sow potions) , a snare, my trust charm, and my calm song.

I did this with my bard, at lvl 52, named Daldurr, i have yet to see a book or page or whatever. (can use a hel instead of a dot also, but only if ya feel the need)

(this doesn't guarentee no adds, if you get some, all you have to do is adjust the pulling, and snare one that get ahead of others, one troubadour is dead, charm another mob, sic it on the pack, loot body, selo's yerself and RUN! {with invis of course})

Good luck!

Got mine on 7th attempt, spawn time seemed to be 15 to 20 minutes, going to run about all over to do turn-ins

Troubador
# Sep 04 2003 at 9:21 PM Rating: Decent
Dark Blue to 47 Bard. Pulled him and several others... went to kiting area by big ship. Prior to pull, used SoW potion to keep up speed and basically quad dotted him. As soon as he dropped, I zoned... came back invis and went back to find no book... Rinse and repeat until I get book cuz on Sullon this is one handy song.
An easy kill
# Aug 08 2003 at 9:12 AM Rating: Decent
There is an extremely easy way to kill the Troubadore if you are a high level bard. We get a wonderful little song used to pacify mobs (Voice of Quellious or something like that). Since all the mobs con green it is real easy to just pacify all the mobs in the room and pull the troubadore outside for a chant session. There is a Brigand that is in agro range in front of the bar so chant him down before the pull. Took less than a minute to kill Troubadore using 3 chants.

Good luck...

Soloing Troubador
# Apr 30 2003 at 5:47 AM Rating: Default
Here is the skinny on killing the troubador solo, for those bards who need help. You will need to have two dot songs (I used Tuven's Chant of Flame and Frost), a charm song (Solon's Bewitching Bravura works well), and an invis song. Go to the tavern while invisible. Go inside, using your flute, and target the troubador, and step just outside near the wall of the building. Charm the troubador and keep him targeted. The other npc's in the tavern will beat the snot out of him. When he gets to 20%, sing your invis song, or hide. The charm will break, and the troubador, like everybody else, will charge out wanting desperately to party with you and your mad DJ skills. Hit Selo's and run to a nearby open square (the one next to Oceancrasher, I believe). You will want to switch to your drum now to get more oomph out of your dot songs. At this stage, it doesn't really matter if you aggro any guards and such. Just keep running in a circle, while double dot'ing the troubador, not forgetting to keep Selo's up. Once he dies, run your train over towards the Gunthak zone, as if you were going to leave. Once you get them a good distance away from the corpse, go back, loot, and scoot to the zone. If you hurry, you will leave the train behind, they will stop chasing you, and you can just zone to clear any aggro. <Word of Caution> When doing any intentional training, please be courteous of others...they don't seem to enjoy a good train as much as a wily bard.

Finished quest solo at 45

just did this quest solo at 45... first time i went in using invis song. target troub. go outside..use charm to pull (i wanted to drag him to zoneline) a tavern wench attacks him inside building..they duke it out until lvl 39 charm song ends...both come for me....i recharm troub. but i got hit a little too much for comfort.while tavern wench and my pet troub. fights i use hymn...charm breaks again and i have to zone...i only got 1k hp had around 100hp when i zoned...no buffs...next time same pulling...this time i get an "unwanted" swarm kite on my hands.i might have gotten very lucky here.since i charm and use /pet back off command to get what i thought was my pet and wench..i get 4 mobs beating down my new friendly troub...near the end i snare him...selo is up at all times...charm wench. let her attack troub. do some tricky close quarter kiting (run near wall outside tavern)...seems wench is good for charming..he dies, i loot and head out at full selo..with book...mob outside tavern didnt aggro me...neither did a wharf rat..dont know if they jump you didnt have time to con...i was LUCKY..but solo quested at 45..i am happy..now you try:)

K first off there are 3 books in this quest. The one you get from troubadour is waterlogged or water soaked. When you turn it in the one you get back IS faded. In fact it is 'A Faded Songbook' that you then take to get 'A Transcribed Songbook' in south qeynos. Once you return with that book and hand it in you get the song scroll. For a great site about this and any other bard songs go to www.dotnetdiva.com.

I pulled the npcs around the bard until only he was left. You can safely fight on the porch outside the bar just have Largo's ready to snare the runner's. I think bards can use their chant twisted with healing song will even out the fight in your favor. At 65 it was just a straight out melee fight for me and took 4 tires to get a book to drop. I haven't had too much luck with using a charmed npc to fight for me but if you're comfortable charming an npc it's probably a very good tactic.

Now I wish I coulkd find the start of the Aria of Innocence quest.

Fighting Inside

It is also possible to fight inside the tavern. I was able to successfully melee-solo the troubador at 58th inside the tavern.

There is a corner in the back where none of the patrons are near, by a hole in the floor filled with water. You can safely stand in that corner and not draw attention.

Use Kelin Lugubrious Lament to lull everyone in the bar, then lull the troubador. I pulled with Largo's Absonant Binding, twisted that, Jonthan's inspiriation and Cantata, and was able to kill him with a loss of about 1/2 to 1/3 of my health. He does not seem to try to run when low on health.

Took 5 kills for me to get the book.

Charm a guard
# Mar 02 2003 at 12:44 PM Rating: Decent
I tried this guy at 52 by using the invis in and target him, then pull him thru the wall to outside. He was a bit too much for me to straight melee. After losing twice in straight up fights and having to run to zone, I decided to charm one of the nearby guards. This works well and only had to charm my pet twice. Unfortunately, I've killed him twice so far with no book. So for bards that are too low to take him out in a straight up fight, convince one of the trolls that that Erudite was calling him rude names.
