Sage Balic may be found at the top of the tower in the neutral section of town at /location -15, 60.

    You say, 'Hail, Sage Balic'

Sage Balic says 'Greetings friend. Welcome to my place of private contemplation. I relax here and leaf through my old studies, admiring at creations from the past made by races we thought would never amount to anything. My favorite tomes to look at are those that deal with Frogloks.'

    You say, 'What frogloks?'

Sage Balic says 'A surprising race to study is the Frogloks of Antonica. While we may think their magic was weak, it was at one time so powerful the Gods reached down and smote them for their creations. Balls of energy that made life into magic! Their High Enchanter even made a mask that transformed the wearer into a Teir`Dal! Quite an interesting race worthy of some study if you ask me, someday I shall like to go and see these frogloks, especially to learn more knowledge of the magical mask.'

    You say, 'What magical mask?'

Sage Balic blinks and looks at you. 'I have told you all that I know, for more knowledge you will need to seek its creator. The enchanter is more than likely very old, the mask having been made at the height of the power of the Froglok race. Here take this picture book to aid you in your quest.'

Sage Balic hands you a Picturebook.

In Upper Guk, find an old froglok (location 1280, +220, -94; PH is a froglok ton shaman but does not need to be killed as it will despawn in place of the old froglok).

You must have at least 'warmly' faction (750) with Frogloks of Guk in order to get a response out of it. (Note: undead frogloks in Old Sebilis give +25 faction per hit, so may be among the best kill targets for faction increases.)

You say, 'Hail, an old froglok'

    an old froglok says 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk!'

    Give him the Picturebook.

an old froglok backflips and says, 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! I'm in this book! You see me! Owww that flip hurt my old bones! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Look there is a picture of my maaask from long ago! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! I keep book! You taaake this recipe! Maaaybe more! I'm in book! Frroooaaaaaakkkk!'

Your faction standing with Frogloks of Guk has been adjusted by 1.

You receive an Elf Essence Recipe, which reads:

Grind up the parts of both the elves of dark and the elves of light, of which descended from the same tree. A source of celestial liquid as the base and the fungus from this scroll shall cause a reaction that will decant the pure essence.

You say, 'What about the mask?'

an old froglok says, 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Speciaaal maaask I maaake for sneaky types! Lost long ago! Baaad frogs taaake! I too old to maaake more! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Maaagic aaalmost used up! So cold! You help me! I help you!'

You say, 'I will help you.'

an old froglok says, 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! So cold! You bring me waaarm velium mastodon fur cloaaak! I need supplies! You bring me maaana juice! You bring me elf essence! You bring me sturdy froglock crown those naaasty big frogs stole! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! I maaake you something nice! So cold! You bring me all those things, don't forget cloaaak!'

    The Froglok needs four things:

    Elf Essence (crafted via baking)

Reet Froglok Crown (drops in Old Sebilis from "reet" mobs in the juggernaut tunnels)

Vial of Purified Mana (summoned by an enchanter via Purify Mana or Mass Purify Mana or crafted via research)

Velium Mastodon Fur Cloak (crafted via tailoring)

Hand all 4 items to the old froglok.

an old froglok says 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk!!! This cloaaak so waaarm! Here let me work! Frroooaaaaaakkkk!' The old froglok goes to work on the crown and after uttering a few froaks, a small cloud of smoke rises from the crown. You reach over and pick it up. 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Maaagic haaat! Taaake good care of it aaand staay away from baaad frogs! Frroooaaaaaakkkk!'

You receive the Crown of Deceit.

Relatively easy quest if you can buy the bazaar components. Most of it is doable in Velious. https://youtu.be/UvOzJoJoN0I

Yes, as an Iskar, I had to clear low guk several times, then I went to Old Seb and that was much faster to raise the faction. I still had to use the scalp and a wood elf illusion to get to "warmly" faction. But the turn in worked and I have my crown. I think I was just confirming that this quest does still work as advertised. I'm just and old returning player running around trying to collect clickies.

    Five Star review.

I went through the same circumstance, but I am a troll, not an Iksar. With max faction (indifferent), the ghoul lord scalp, and a wood elf illusion; I got to warmly. I just got my crown a moment ago on 12/1/2019. I agree, Seb is way faster in getting your faction raised.

Interestingly, the scalp and Illusion Froglok didn't raise my Iksar Monk Cazic faction high enough, but Illusion Wood Elf did.

There is a cap on how high you can raise faction on opposing faction races, even with faction modifying items.

Frogloks of Guk faction stats for Crown of Deceit quest

After playing around with the new faction window, I found out some numbers.

750 (warmly) is the exact amount of faction with Frogloks of Guk required to talk to an old froglok, and to do the turn-ins for Crown of Deceit. I tested 749, 750, 751 to pin it down. Kill undead frogs to raise your faction.

The base faction with Frogloks of Guk is -499 (dubious). If you created a new level 1 agnostic human, for example, his faction would start at that number. And it would max out at +1501 (ally) after gaining as much faction as you can.

Certain evil races have a race faction penalty, on top of the base faction penalty: Dark Elf -151, Ogre -251, Troll -501, Iksar -501. But this is no problem -- you can neutralize the race penalty by using an illusion for any of the other player races. Those 12 races are: Barbarian, Drakkin, Dwarf, Erudite, Gnome, Guktan, Half-elf, Halfling, High Elf, Human, Vah Shir, Wood Elf. Other types of illusions have no effect, I even tried Druid shared wolf form, and Froglok illusion.

But wait, there is another faction penalty if you worship one of these evil deities: Bertoxxulous -1000, Cazic Thule -1000, Innoruuk -1000, Rallos Zek -250. The penalty for Bertox, Cazic, and Inny is so severe it causes your faction to max out at +501 (kindly), even with an illusion, which is not enough to do the quest. Luckily there is the Scalp of the Ghoul Lord which is designed for this situation -- the scalp gains you +250, raising your max faction level to +751 (warmly). So if you are Bertox, Cazic, or Inny, you will need to go loot the scalp from the ghoul lord in Lower Guk and equip it, as well as use an illusion, in order to do the quest. And Rallos Zek fans, the scalp could help you too. I don't know why Veeshan is listed on the scalp because that deity does not have a faction penalty with Frogloks of Guk. [Note that certain characters who are not all that evil might still be able to equip the scalp. If your deity is not listed on the scalp and you manage to equip it, the scalp will turn yellow, which means you get no stats from it and no faction boost. Some posters below said it worked, but that must have been a temporary bug.]

Just wanted to make a post to hopefully help some on the factioning part of this quest. The two ogres in Grobb are by far the easiest and quickest way to max your faction. There names are Mulg and Prashnak. If you use brewalls maps, they are marked on the maps on the east side of Grobb. They respawn very fast, and they give +150 faction every kill. When you max your faction you may still con indifferent, dubious, amiable, etc to the frogloks in upper guk. This is all based on your deity, so yes even having max faction will not get you to ally in this case. There are some ways to fix this. One is through illusion, one that worked for me to gain faction was high elf which I used from Gore-Splattered Shoulders. If you don't have those buy or make essence of high elf which will give you the illusion. For me that still didn't give me warmly faction, so I had to obtain the Scalp of the Ghoul Lord which comes from the Ghoul Lord in lower guk. It has a low drop rate, but I was able to obtain in 8 clears. Respawn timer is 24min. With both the scalp and the illusion I conned warmly to the frogloks in upper guk. Good luck, a fun illusion and definitely worth the quest.

Mulg and Prashnak in Grobb both give +150 to Frogloks of Guk faction on a fairly fast respawn. As long as you don't mind upsetting the surrounding trolls, I found this to be a very fast way to max faction.

It is worth noting that although these 2 don't hit very hard (maybe max 140ish), they have a boatload of hit points. Definitely over 1,000,000. I did a headshot for 750,000, and took him down about half-ish

I thought I would add some more detail. First, their hps are probably closer to 2 million. It's like beating on a brick wall.

Anyway, they are located in the Shaman guild hall area. In the courtyard you find Mulg. He is near Carver, and Carver and 2 Bashers will agro when you tag Mulg. They are wimps though.. maybe 5k hps. My ranger would 1 round them.

Prashnak is through the door and up the stairs standing beside a red pool. 2 Bashers from above will agro when you tag Prashnak (also wimps).

These 2 spawn in ~ 4-5 minutes, and everything else is longer. I could kill these 2 twice before the Bashers respawned.

I agree with everyone else that this is by far the easiest way to max faction... if you don't mind killing trolls.

I think there is some confusion about frog factions here. The Frogs in old Seb are not all undead. You can find the undead frogs around the crypt area.
The undead frogs do indeed give a +25 hit to Frogs of Guk, the +50 hit is to the Frogs of Krup.
If you are getting a +1 hit to Frogs of Guk you are not killing the undead frogs...
Kill everything around the crypt area, the spawns can be either skelly or frogs, so dont leave skellies up, couple hours of clearing here will get you to ally np. Or if you're high enough level, stand in the first 3 way when you enter the pyramid, 3 static and roamers there, let your merc kill overnight while you sleep =)

Since they're added numbers to faction hits, I can say that the best place to grind faction is the undead frogs in Sebilis. Each one gave a whopping +25 to froglok faction.

This is incorrect. Either you were doing this during a double faction bonus period, or you misread. Frogloks of Krup faction is boosted by 50, but Frogloks of Guk remains at 25 per kill.

This was likely caused by killing the wrong frogs. Reet frogs and other variations of "living" frogs will only give 1 faction at a time. Undead in the crypt area are give the massive gains of 25 per kill.
    Still doable with Troll!

Max faction I could get with Frogloks of Guk was indiff. With scalp brought me to amiable. Cast illusion:guktan with chanter onto zerker and it brought me to kindly. Hope this helps, not sure if it is possible to do it any other way as a Cazic worshiping troll
    My experience
    # Dec 01 2013 at 1:31 PM Rating: Decent
I just wanted to detail my experience with this faction. As a Dark Elf SK who worships Innoruuk, it took roughly 2200 faction hits (from logs) to get from somewhere in Ready to Attack bracket (not max KOS) to Amiably. It maxed out on Amiably. about 2000 of those came from old Sebilis, swarming trains in the east wing. Wolf form didn't seem to do anything (have a Druid in tow), so now I'm camping the ghoul lord for the scalp. I'm not sure if this was nerfed at sometime in the past, I remember it working when I did it on my Druid many years ago. No one is on selling any good race illusion atm, so I'll camp a bit. ;)

Just something to add, essence of Erudite and Gnome also work. I got up to warmly using them and the scalp from the ghoul lord.

96 cleric on Drinal-Maelin server. Started at dubious to the old froglok, 2 days later of some slacking and I'm at kindly, turn in the book to him you're at warmly.Only need WARMLY faction to get his response "Frrrrrroaaaaakkk!" Combine the actual recipe with celestial essence, wood and dark elf parts and that makes "elf essence", That part wasn't clear enough I didn't think. Reet helm took about an hour give or take a few.(lucky) The rest was smooth sailing and now I am 1 happy cleric! good luck everyone

EDIT: Old Seb really is faster. no doubt. Just swarm pull the whole place with Vow of(insert), Ward of(insert), and Mark/Blood of the(insert). Also, if you can, bind yourself right at the stone in Trackanon's Teeth, saves you all that running time unless you are a druid or wiz who can port. Just use Throne of the Heros Vet AA, or if you don't have that, Origin AA.

95 DE Shadowknight that also hit max faction at amiable. After reading the necro post about using human illusion, I figured I would try the gnome illusion I had on me. It worked but only after I put on the scalp of the ghoul lord to bump my faction over the top.

95 Dark Elf Necro - Hit max faction at "Amiable". Early in the factioning, I looted the Scalp of the Ghoul Lord (postive faction for Frogloks of Guk). When I went to hail the Old Froglok, I was still only "Kindly". Used a potion of human essence (since I had it on me already) and that gave me the boost to "Warmly". Just make sure you have another when you come back for the turn in.

i got a shm to make me some froglok illusion pots ( https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=66451 ) but it did not raise my faction level at amiably. grinded seb some more, came back at kindly and again, did not raise my faction level. just to make sure, i waited for the old froglok to spawn and he indeed did not respond to me with my kindly faction and froglok illusion on. i don't know if there was some other froglok illusion these guys were talking about, but the one i linked does NOT help an agnostic kitty warrior (dubious to start with).

Essence of Gukta (Illusion Guktan) is the correct one (not Froglok). It will raise your faction enough IF you are within the range of it's power. However, it will not always be enough to raise you to the next level. So it can be somewhat deceptive.

Old froglok will not automatically spawn after shaman despawns. Shaman may respawn multiple times before Old froglok spawns. I have waited 4 cycles and saw shaman repop every time. I killed shaman and 15 mins later shaman popped again. I am now just playing waiting game for old froglok to spawn. I dont want to hurt my faction.

In the north part of the zone (upper guk) there is a big "swiming pool" with an "island" in the middle and 3 frogs on it.
From the center, take the "bridge" to the south, jump down of swiming pool and go head.
You must see a lamp in the first corner with no frog in this corner.
Turn to the right and just befor the stairs there is another lamp in NW corner with a frog near it.
    This is the place !

You dont have to kill it, this is not a "PH" but the place where the old frog pop every 40 min for 30 min.
You just have to wait and she will pop, YOU DONT HAVE TO KILL ANY FROGS !

Copy and paste this into the bottom of your guktop_1 map for his spawn point.
    P -215.8420, -1267.6025, -97.9667, 0, 0, 0, 1, Old_Froglok

I am a dark elf from innoruuk (Evil race).
I have max my faction by killing undead frogs in lower guk.

Evil race + Scalp + faction maxed = Kindly
Good race + max faction = Ally

Then if you are an evil race, you MUST use "Scalp of the Ghoul Lord" from "the ghoul lord" in lower guk AND a light race illusion.

Killed about 200 of the reets, got 3 Reet Froglok Crowns and one ruby crown which looked like the reet froglok crown. In fact it looked so much like it that we thought it was it. When we thought we was done we was not... lucky that we noticed before that one toon had looted the fake.

The spawn time is about 26 to 29 mins long on the reets and there is about 11 to 13 of them. They are in the alcoves past invis wall on the way to Trakanon.

All the mobs in the waste summon. The non named frogs in Seb do not summon, but the golems and bugs do. Trakanon Summons, Froglok Reets summons.

Took about 19 hours to get 3 peeps to warmly, kill the mastadons, get the reet froklok crown and do combines, shop for tradeskill stuffs and do turn-ins.

Looted everything on all mobs and all zones.
It all sold for about 18k to 23k to vendors mostly.

When I went to Upper Guk... to get the quest I waited 2hrs for the old froglok and he did not spawn. I killed the ph 2 times, and the old frog spawned.

When I went back for turn-in I killed the ph 1 time waited about 15 mins and old frog spawned.
