    Sage Balic may be found at the top of the tower in the neutral section of town at /location -15, 60.

    You say, 'Hail, Sage Balic'

    Sage Balic says 'Greetings friend. Welcome to my place of private contemplation. I relax here and leaf through my old studies, admiring at creations from the past made by races we thought would never amount to anything. My favorite tomes to look at are those that deal with Frogloks.'

    You say, 'What frogloks?'

    Sage Balic says 'A surprising race to study is the Frogloks of Antonica. While we may think their magic was weak, it was at one time so powerful the Gods reached down and smote them for their creations. Balls of energy that made life into magic! Their High Enchanter even made a mask that transformed the wearer into a Teir`Dal! Quite an interesting race worthy of some study if you ask me, someday I shall like to go and see these frogloks, especially to learn more knowledge of the magical mask.'

    You say, 'What magical mask?'

    Sage Balic blinks and looks at you. 'I have told you all that I know, for more knowledge you will need to seek its creator. The enchanter is more than likely very old, the mask having been made at the height of the power of the Froglok race. Here take this picture book to aid you in your quest.'

    Sage Balic hands you a Picturebook.

    In Upper Guk, find an old froglok (location 1280, +220, -94; PH is a froglok ton shaman but does not need to be killed as it will despawn in place of the old froglok).

    You must have at least 'warmly' faction (750) with Frogloks of Guk in order to get a response out of it. (Note: undead frogloks in Old Sebilis give +25 faction per hit, so may be among the best kill targets for faction increases.)

    You say, 'Hail, an old froglok'

    an old froglok says 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk!'

    Give him the Picturebook.

    an old froglok backflips and says, 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! I'm in this book! You see me! Owww that flip hurt my old bones! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Look there is a picture of my maaask from long ago! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! I keep book! You taaake this recipe! Maaaybe more! I'm in book! Frroooaaaaaakkkk!'

    Your faction standing with Frogloks of Guk has been adjusted by 1.

    You receive an Elf Essence Recipe, which reads:

    Grind up the parts of both the elves of dark and the elves of light, of which descended from the same tree. A source of celestial liquid as the base and the fungus from this scroll shall cause a reaction that will decant the pure essence.

    You say, 'What about the mask?'

    an old froglok says, 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Speciaaal maaask I maaake for sneaky types! Lost long ago! Baaad frogs taaake! I too old to maaake more! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Maaagic aaalmost used up! So cold! You help me! I help you!'

    You say, 'I will help you.'

    an old froglok says, 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! So cold! You bring me waaarm velium mastodon fur cloaaak! I need supplies! You bring me maaana juice! You bring me elf essence! You bring me sturdy froglock crown those naaasty big frogs stole! Frroooaaaaaakkkk! I maaake you something nice! So cold! You bring me all those things, don't forget cloaaak!'

    The Froglok needs four things:

    Elf Essence (crafted via baking)

    Reet Froglok Crown (drops in Old Sebilis from "reet" mobs in the juggernaut tunnels)

    Vial of Purified Mana (summoned by an enchanter via Purify Mana or Mass Purify Mana or crafted via research)

    Velium Mastodon Fur Cloak (crafted via tailoring)

    Hand all 4 items to the old froglok.

    an old froglok says 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk!!! This cloaaak so waaarm! Here let me work! Frroooaaaaaakkkk!' The old froglok goes to work on the crown and after uttering a few froaks, a small cloud of smoke rises from the crown. You reach over and pick it up. 'Frroooaaaaaakkkk! Maaagic haaat! Taaake good care of it aaand staay away from baaad frogs! Frroooaaaaaakkkk!'

    You receive the Crown of Deceit.

    Confirmed June 11, 2008 - Warm faction with Frogloks of Guk needed as minimum. I hailed at every point from indifferent up and did not get him to acknowledge me until I hit "an old froglok looks upon you warmly" Also, killing the undead frogloks in Lower Guk raised my faction the fastest.

    The old Froglok in Upper Guk was found at /loc 1281, 218, -92 which is on the bottom part of Upper Guk, the 2nd last turn before the North-east "pond" that has a river zoneline into Lower Guk.

    He conned kindly to me and would not take the book. With the Ghoul Lord's Scalp he conned warmly and took the book and then the remaining pieces.

    I earned AAxp from the turn-in at 65, but have a low AA count.

    Poison vendors and the general merchants at fishing pond in Plane of Knowledge were the easiest place to do the celestial essence combine.

    Wood Elf parts took 7 bandit kills in Gfay just north of the Luclin Spires.

    Dark Elf parts drop readily in najena and Dulak, I just bought mine in baz.

    Reet Crown took two clearing of the reets towards Trakanon to drop for me. I had group support for this.

    Velium Mastodon Fur Cloak I was lucky and able to buy a completed one in baz, was also some selling the furs. Others have said south end of Western Wastes is the place to hunt this.

    Vial of purified mana: I have an enchanter so just needed to buy 4 rubies and the poison vial.

    The faction itself took a long time for what many would like. I killed mostly in Old Sebilis as it was more lucrative for drops and some XP.

    Item clicks from inventory with a cast time, I am happy with it.

    Edit: added "in Plane of Knowledge"

    I'd be willing to bet that the illusion only raises your faction about 200 points or so - which for me bumped me up a faction level (I was probably close to a level increase), while for you it didn't do anything since the faction level is much wider (not close enough to get bumped to the next faction level).

    Ally = 1450 to 2500 points
    Warmly = 1100 to 1450
    Kindly = 750 to 1100
    Amiable = 150 to 750
    Indifferent = 0 to 150
    Apprehensive = 0 to -150
    Dubious = -150 to -750
    Threateningly = -750 to -1100
    Ready to Attack = -1100 to -2500

    i can second this post. i was amiable, and was sure that using the "facts" post below, id have my crap in my hot little hands.

    instead, when i threw on the guktan illusion, i went from amiable to--

    amiable. then i put my scalp on and went from amiable to--

    amiable.

    you can imagine how pissed i was to have to keep factioning in this god forsaken zone.

    Now that I've done this quest a few times, I can give some pointers:

    1. Faction. Sebilis frogs and LGuk frogs give exactly the same faction hit. So if you want exp while factioning, go to LGuk in your 40s-50s, and if you're in your upper 50s-60s go to Sebilis. Else, if you're like me and 75 and just want to slaughter for faction, go to LGuk. More frogs, they die quicker, and no one will bother you, and significantly less risk of death if you need to /afk a min or two.

    2. Quest items. The mastodon furs are a *****. Bring a tracker. They hang out mostly in the southern half of the zone, and tend to path quite a bit by the west coast of Western Wastes. If you have high CoV faction, you won't need to fear the dragons, but the wolves and other wanderers (especially burrowers) can be a pain. Wood elf parts drop very commonly at the "Ranger Outpost" in Lesser Faydark. Dark elf parts drop very commonly off magicians in Najena. Both very easy to get to, and very very easy to kill. Reet crown is an annoying camp, but if you just keep clearing the juggs/reets area, you'll do fine. Again, if you're in your 60s, this can be a good exp camp for you if you know what you're doing. Good way to get your 50-60 spells too if you don't already have them, and cash from gems. Ghoul Lord Scalp drops about 1 every 5 Ghoul Lords. Be patient. Clear all of LGuk dead side once or twice a day, and just wait for him to repop. This will net you about 5 kills (if no PH), and one should have the scalp. I've let so many rot by now I can't keep track. A good way to check faction without zoning is to /con the froglok slaves in the frenzied room, executioner's room, and the 4-way crossroads leading towards the Ghoul Lord.

    3. Tradeskill stuff. Platinum thread is sold in Abysmal Sea on not the top deck, or the one below it, but the one below that by Viliani something-something. You can also buy Celestial Solvent in Abysmal.

    4. Pet classes. If you're a pet class with enough HP to withstand a very very light beating, I recommend you /afk in the ghoul executioner's room in LGuk. Give your best melee DPS pet (for necros I'd recommend warrior pet, cause ***** won't always get to backstab down there) a set of pet toys, and make sure you've got a lot of HP/ac/avoidance/shielding and when you wake up, you should be about 200-250 faction hits richer each night you do this. Then, as I mentioned, just clear LGuk dead side once or twice a day (will take no time with DS potion and pet at level 75, or DS potion and haste is you're a melee type). In a couple days I've gone from max KOS to indifferent.

    ** NOTE: If going AFK with pet out, do NOT use any kind of familiar for the effect (e.g. the +5 regen shroom familiar). While we all know that these familiars give the effect even though it doesn't summon the familiar, once that effect wears off (6 hours) your pet will *poof* and you will be standing there like a fool while a bunch of green/grey mobs wail on you. LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...

    5. Illusion Potions. You want Illusion: Guktan. This comes from Essence of Guktan. Easily found in the bazaar. This will raise your faction 2 levels with the frogs. You need warmly to talk to the Old Froglok. The Ghoul Lord Scalp, when worn, raises faction an additional level. So, for us Iksar types, get indifferent, put on the scalp to get to amiable. Cast the illusion to go from amiable to kindly/warmly (may be close depending on how far into "indifferent" you were). This should put you right with Old Froglok, if you con warmly to him.

    Take care. Good luck. Don't go nuts.

    For anyone still doing these quests -

    Lower Guk: frogs give +1 faction hit.
    Sebilis: frogs in the Crypt area +25 faction hit.

    You will have to move through a locked door at the Pyramid, but that's easy these days right (cough* Illusion)

    Just an FYI: in G'Fay at the bandit camp that people get sent to for their noob bracer armor quest on the good side of Pok, ( children of the Fay ) there are woodelf bandits ( level 9 mobs ) that drop the parts needed as well, and no negative fac hits except for Fizzlethorp.

    I just finished the quest yesterday and I can guarantee you that you do not need to have the faction part done before you can get the crown. I got the crown at least 20 levels before I did the turn-in. I am currently camping the reets on my bard and I've been here for at least 4 hours. I have about 15 spells and no crowns yet.

    Started KoS to Frogs of Guk. Killed enough Frogs in Old Sebilis to get to kindly. Got sick of killing frogs way out in Old Sebilis (better cash and drops then the ones in Lower Guk - and took about the same amount of effort to kill), so I made a trip to the Bazaar to buy the shaman made illusion potions:

    Illusion Frogluk

    and

    Illusion Gukta

    I tried illusion frogluk first, but it did not change my faction. So I tried illusion gukta. The illusion took me for kindly to warmly, and I was able to finish this quest without hitting my max positive faction (I never received "Your faction standing with the Frogluks of Guk can not get any better").

    Thought this might save others a few extra days/hours of mind-numbing factioning.

    As a gnome SK with Bertoxxoulos for my deity, I reached my maximum faction with the frogs at kindly (with the message that my faction cannot get any better). Together with the ghoul lord's cap this was sufficient to do the turn-in.

    I did not keep a count of the frogs I did in, so I cannot be sure, but I had the impression that it were less kills than expected from the numbers needed to getting the faction. It might be true, that the lord does give a larger boost than the standard undead frog.
    Using an illusion did not help me. but that might be because gnomes are not an evil race and have no problems with the gukta.

    Confirmed that you need to be considered warmly to an old froglok to finish this quest. Indifferent to kindly has him say, "You need to prove your dedication to our cause before I am willing to discuss such matters with you." Anything below that yields the typical angry NPC messages.

    Also, I find that clearing Lower Guk is the best means for faction. This is because I found out that the ghoul lord gives a hefty faction hit, or so it would seem. It was still faster than Sebilis.

    As an update to my previous post I tried several other things to see if I could get that button to not be grayed out and nothing worked. I finally solicited for the help of a rogue friend of mine who also had ally faction. The rogue needs to pick up the book from Sage Balic in PoK and come down to Guk with you and hand the book in to get the recipe. They can do the combine with the (1) Wood Elf Parts, (1) Dark Elf Parts, (1) Celestial Essence and (1) Elf Essence Recipe in the mortar and pestle - the successful combine of Elf Essence is also no drop - you have to multi-quest from there.

    Make sure you find a rogue who is warmly or ally as they will need the appropriate faction to 1 - get the recipe and 2 - participate in a successful multi-quest. To quickly check their faction all they need to do is hail the old froglock and if he responds with a "frrooaaaakkk!" then their faction is high enough. Also, be sure whoever else is participating in the multi-quest has faction high enough as well.

    Absolutely would not allow less than max faction (kindly, unadjusted) for my Innorruk-Froglok cleric. Trained Old Seb until received max faction note after kill. Went to Upper Guk and killed 1 placeholder to spawn an old froglok. The old guy would not speak to me.

    Went to dead side, killed 3-4 ghouls, until received max faction message again. At maxxed kindly w/Ghoul Lord scalp (brings to warmly), he gave text. May be possible to use "Alliance" spell clicky from Thurg B, to get text pre-max... but I wasted 3 clicks trying to guess-timate that point, before just maxxing faction.

    Another option that few people seem to be aware of is if you find a druid with the *indoor* group wolf form (from LDoN) and have them cast it on you in UGuk, it is a huge faction increase.

    Ogre/SK/Cazic Thule here. I had to max faction with Frogloks of Guk, no less. Max for my situation was in the amiable range. I checked several times when I hit amiable and didn't get any positive response from the old frog until my faction couldn't get any better. The Ghoullord's scalp got me to kindly, a dose of Essence of Guktan (not Essence of Froglok) got me to warmly.

    I did my faction work in Old Sebilis. I'm guessing I started from max scowling since I previously killed frogs in the live side of Guk for the Ghoulbane drop. I cleared the reet frogs down by Trakanon many times. However, the quickest faction I found was the easier frogs from the entry zone in down to the disco. As an added bonus you will make some decent plat.

    They took out all the wolven factions improvements a while back. Being in wolf form now will at best leave you at the same faction level; and more often than not, will make you KoS.

    No, wolf-form won't make your faction any different from your 'normal' form now - the same applies to all non-player-race illusions.

    I heard due to the latest war storyline between Froglocks and Trolls that it is Impossible for a Troll to get the faction to complete this quest. Need Confirmation on any Troll who has done this quest recently..preferrably after Troll Home Village was relocated.

    Essence of Gukta for Ogre, non-deity

    I'm an ogre berserker that isn't following a deity. Took me about 15+ hours in Sebilis to get from wherever it was I started to "kindly" faction. I don't know how far I was into "kindly" but by using the potion I was able to make from the froglok blood I looted, my faction jumped to "warmly." Tadaa, I got my crown.

    "Feral Pack" is a group indoor wolf form with other stats like attack and see invis and stuff. I believe it is a 52 Druid spell from LDoN.
