You must complete at least one Trial in the Plane of Justice in order to complete this quest.

Askr the Lost may be found in the caves near zone-in. He's in the last cave tending bar near the zone-out tree.

Askr the Lost judges you amiably -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

You say, 'Hail, Askr the Lost'

Askr looks up at you and when he does, you take note of the scraggly beard on his weather-worn face; the scent of ale permeates your senses and pushes you to look away slightly. In an apparent drunken stupor, Askr begins to speak with surprising clarity. 'Here to wash the windows and clean the flooring, are you? No? Well, you can't be much help then. And the likes of you obviously wouldn't be able to get rid of the massive problem we're having. Bah, says I. You can help me no more than any of these other vagrants. Leave me alone to my ale and my misery.'

He won't say anything else to you until you give him a Storm Giant Head. These drop randomly from any giant in the zone.

The drunken stupor that Askr had been in earlier appears to vanish in an instant; a glimmer of hope now flashes in the depths of his eyes. 'This is the head of a giant. . . a storm giant from outside the caves.' Askr ponders what this revelation could mean. He mutters to himself, 'If it is possible that someone has indeed bested a giant here in the planes, then perhaps it is possible. . .' He looks back at you very sternly and asks, 'Tell me now and be truthful, was it you who severed the head of this giant from his body?'

You say, 'It was me.'

Askr the Lost says 'Truly, I am amazed that someone of your caliber was able to do what I could not. I have been stuck in these desolate caves for so long, I had almost lost hope that I would ever find a way to get rid of those accursed giants. But you. . . you have been able to best at least one of them. It is reasonable to suggest that if you are able to dispatch one, you may be able to dispatch others. I need to know for sure if you are as capable an individual as it appears you are. This is very important, so are you paying attention?'

You say, 'Yes, I am paying attention.'

Askr the Lost says 'This place was once beautiful and serene, with the great Karana's showers falling day and night soothing the lands and the creatures that inhabit it. Alas, there was an invasion of a superior force -- the storm giants which you have encountered. They laid waste to the lands, burned down trees, and have caused so much havoc I don't even know what is to become of it. Originally, they came as one group and crossed the breadth of the land pillaging and plundering all that they could find. Over time, though, they grew apart and distinct factions grew around Mount Grenidor.' [continue]

You say, 'Continue.'

Askr the Lost says 'To the south of Grenidor lay Srerendi, Shores of the Lost and the Srerendi storm giants. Born of the ocean and the cool air, they lay claim to the shores and the plains inland as their own. To the west of Grenidor lay Krendic, Sands of Chaos and the Krendic storm giants. They have skin that is thick as dirt and blend in well with their surroundings. To the north of the great mount lay Kelek`Vor, the Forest of Tears and the Kelek`Vor storm giants. They are born of the wood and take great pleasure in seeing it used to their own purposes.' [continue]

You say, 'Continue.'

Askr the Lost says 'I must know if you are truly capable of defeating the storm giants that abound here. To do this, you must slay one of each of the three factions and return to me something specific to each tribe: from the Srerendi storm giants, return their shorn beard; from the Krendic storm giants, a piece of their rocky carcass; from the Kelek`Vor storm giants, the crest from their warrior garments. These three items will ensure that you indeed do have the ability to defeat the foul denizens that have seized control of these lands. When you have acquired the three of these items, seal them in this bag and return them to me, so that I know that you are indeed capable of fulfilling a hero's destiny.'

You receive Askr's Bag of Verity. You must fill the bag with a Storm Volaas Beard (random drop from ocean giants), Storm Taarid Bone (random drop from desert giants), and Storm Satuur Sash (random drop from forest giants). Combine these three items in the bag to craft Askr's Sealed Bag of Verity. Give this to Askr.

You have fashioned the items together to create something new!

Askr looks over the remnants of the storm giants in his hands then looks up at you with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. 'Then it's true! You have the means to push back the scourge of giants. . . you must go forth to the Bastion of Thunder and finish there what you have started here. It is imperative that you clear the forces of giants from the Bastion so that order can be restored to the thunderous reaches beyond.'
You have received a character flag!

You say, 'What Bastion of Thunder?'

Askr the Lost says 'To be honest, I cannot say that it is entirely possible, what with the ferocity of the giants and their reluctance to leave the lands they now inhabit. From what I do know, each of the Leaders of each tribe has one piece to allow entrance into the Bastion of Thunder. When two of these pieces are combined, they form an esoteric medallion that allows instant passage to the thunderous plains beyond. If you can find and seal two pieces of the medallion in this bag, I will be able to forge them into the medallion that will help you on your journey.'

You receive Askr's Bag of Verity again. You'll now need two Esoteric Medallions from different giant camps. The named giants in the Ocean, Desert and Forest camps drop these. They're all named the same (Esoteric Medallion), but identify as west, south and north. Any two will do, as long as they're from different camps. Combine the two in the bag to create an Esoteric Meld. Give this to Askr.

You have fashioned the items together to create something new!

The mystical medallion given to you by Askr settles around your neck and then disappears into nothingness. There is no call for alarm, for the medallion is now a part of your soul.

Askr the Lost says 'You have retrieved the pieces! You are well on your way to pushing forth on your quest to return balance to the plains of thunder. The most difficult part lies before you. . . deep in the heart of Mount Grenidor, there is a tempest that rages on eternally. It is there that you must present your medallion to the skies above to be transported to the citadel of thunderous might. Take the medallion and go forth, then deliver these storm giants to their creator!'

You have received a character flag!

Askr faction?

How much Askr faction do I need to do the hand in and complete the quest? I have items and trials and am currently indifferent to Askr

In regards to the free Aaxp for completing this, I was told this by a guild member as well but I completed the BoT Key Quest yesterday and did not receive an increase to the stats on my charm and did not reciever the free AAxp.

I did turn ins to Askr the Lost and received character flags. Went to shrine in middle of PoS and ported into BoT, even though I can already use PoT zone in, and then went to talk to dwarf. No stat increase and no AAxp.

Did I miss something??

I've done my trial and I did get the charm with no stats and an AA for that. I have done the dragon in PoV and I currently show that I am flagged for BoT and HoH.

Also you need to have the PoS flag to get the charm upgrade.. So go get a trail done in PoJ if you have not done so..

Also, you have to zone in from Plane of Storms the first time for Bastion of Thunder. Zoning in from Plane of Storms completes the flag. You don't get the charm upgrades until you do.

Go back to the guy who gave you the charm, and tell him "I have stories".

Each time you say this, you will get an aa point, and some more stats on your charm, until you catch up to the flags you now have.

Actually, you don't have to go tell stories to get the charm stats upgrade -- that happens automatically when you complete the entire flag. You do need to tell the stories to get your AA, however.

After giving Askr the storm giant head he got stuck when I told him, "I am paying attention" and wouldn't continue. I tried, "I'm paying attention", retyped the original... What finally worked was when I told him, "Yes, I am paying attention".

Not sure if the quest text changed or what. Hope this helps if you have the same problem.

This quest give flag for only one person. But drop rate on beard, bone and sash is quite high. For medallion you must kill boss and they always or so dropping more then one. I got mine rooting for a raiding party.

You must now enter the Bastion of Thunder from the Plane of Storms (it's in the center area, with the Tempest Toads, and the tornado). Just put invisibility up and click on the small shrine in the middle. Once you do this, you'll be able to use the zoneline in Tranquility. The key will appear on your /keyring as "Talisman of Thunderous Foyer."

What if u didnt do this part? U did everything else but didnt zone into BOT from POS? Can you just go to pos and zone in to BOT even tho it might be days later?

you need level 63, or done both the PoJ trials and PoS quest to get into BoT.

Originally you needed PoJ trial to get into PoS, which is why its needed to get into BoT (under level 62)

I am lvl 65. I completed the turn-in but could not complete the quest, not having done the POJ Trials. (I could not go thru the POS shrine or get the aa/charm in POK) Will I be able to complete this quest if I finish one of the POJ trials now without having to redo the whole darn thing? summing up some info here so people dont need to go through...

~You NEED PoJ trials to finish this (charm stats, AA, BoT access if under 62)
~Medallions drop from any named (3 for lesser named, someone says 5 on lords but i dont remember as ive only done 1 lord)
~Flags just you
~doable with a group or less, but usually its a guild raid (or at least a few groups) farming stuff for all their members to get it done faster and all at once
~head drops almost every (or every) giant. the body part drops 1 in 3 or so id say
~not MQable due to containers

on a personal opinion.. they should close down BOT again unless flagged through this quest, make only tier 2 open and only to 60+, too many noobs running around. even though i wouldn't be in BoT either, i only need the bone to finish it (i havent really worked on it) so im not worried. i laughed the other day when a 56 chanter was LFG in bot and people were oocing stuff like 'good flag leaching' and stuff which goes to show you they have no clue how to get flagged for bot to begin with because they make it sound like you kill a boss to get flagged (like MB, Grummus, TT, etc. Style)

All in all easy to get BoT flagged, doesnt take too long if your group can take the minis. must get bone for charm stats and aa /grumble.. lol

I have one medallion and forgot which camp I received it from was soo long ago. Have tried to ID it with a Silvery Mask, but there is no info relating to which giant camp it was procured from. If I try to loot a medallion from the same giants again will it give me a message?? Does anyone know if there is anyway to to ID these??

The medallions are all LORE items. If you try to loot one that you already have, you will receive a message that states: "You already have one of this item. Duplicate lore items are not allowed."

If you see that message you know it is time to move on to a different giant camp.

Esoteric Medallion identify:
North -- forest

You need any two, and they are lore so they will be from two different camps.
question

if you are level 65 and have NOT done poj trials can you still get flagged doing the turn-in?
Flagging answers
# Jul 27 2003 at 7:34 PM Rating: Excellent
To answer all of the people below who asked why they couldn't finish this quest, the answer is: you MUST have your PoJ trials done before this quest can be fully completed. If you are below level 62 and have not done the PoJ trials yet, then this quest will remain uncompleted until you do the PoJ trials. You should not have to do this quest over again if you're near the end of it and do not have the PoJ trials. Just go to the Seer in PoK, sit down, and say "unlock memories". She'll get your flags in order for you. If you are still under 62 at this point, you should now be able to enter BoT from the PoS tornado to finish this up and use the BoT stone in PoTranq.

A lot of people now think that just because SOE opened up quite a few of the PoP zones, that they don't need to do the flags anymore for planar progression. This is INCORRECT. You still have to go through all the mayhem and madness of the hailing and the events to get anywhere.
RE: Flagging answers
# Jul 27 2003 at 8:18 PM Rating: Good
Great post, a lot of people still ask about this.

For clarification, this goes for ALL other recently unflagged zones. The zones have been unflagged for EXPERIENCE PURPOSE ONLY, and you MUST do the flagging quests to progress to the next level. That means you have to do a PoJ Trial, this quest, kill Grummus for CoD, do the PoN Hedge trial and kill Terris Thule for PoTorment, and kill Aerin'dar for proper HoH flagging.

Need PoV key?
# Jul 02 2003 at 7:07 PM Rating: Decent
I did my turn in for BoT flag today but noticed that I could not enter BoT from PoS when trying. A friend told me that to get access I need to first get flagged for PoV even if its possible to enter PoV without a flag. Anyone know if this is correct?

When doing turn in I did not recieve any key hope I do not need to do the BoT quest again after doing PoV flag. Anyone know anything about this? All info would be helpful.

you *should* be able to do guided meditation in pok after you do poj trials in order to get both flags counted, but you do need all previous flags in order for any other flag to count

>When doing turn in I did not recieve any key >hope I do not need to do the BoT quest again >after doing PoV flag. Anyone know anything about >this? All info would be helpful.

I didn't know that I had to get the PoV flag first
So I also did the BoT flag quest first. As I couldn't get into BoT, did PoV flag quest and then tried to get into BoT, but couldn't.

Do you have to do BoT quest again or is there anyting to get into BoT in such a situation?

I will appreciate your info.

Even though you entered PoS by being level 55+, and were able to complete the turn in portion of the BoT access flag (Askr the Losts's quest), we have found you will be unable to access BoT unless you also complete one of the PoJ trials in addition to Askr's quest prior to Level 62.

I am working on the BoT access quest but I do not have any PoJ flags. Does anyone know if this quest will work since I am already lvl 63? I would hate to have to do it over to get the flag.
Thanks for any advice.

RE: Need PoV key?

Yes you do.
You can enter POV ONLY because SOE lets you do it....
You dont have the flag to do the quests...

In any flag, you need the real flag to advance..

the run down
# May 30 2003 at 2:14 PM Rating: Decent
i just finished this quest on Prexus.

the basic run down is .. First you go get a Storm giant head from 1 of the 3 areas in PoS. Then you give the storm giant head to askr and say "It was me" you will get the bag from Askr, then go find your beard, sash, and bone. Put them in the bag and hit combine. Now you run the combined bag to Askr and give it to him. Tell Askr " What Bastion of Thunder" Askr will then give you another 4 slot bag. you now need to get 2 of the 3 medallions and put them in this bag and hit combine. it will turn into a sealed box. you then take the box to Askr and hand it to him ( no talking required). i did this with Amiable faction to askr and am currently flagged for BoT =)

i hope this helps

Clarification
# May 26 2003 at 9:29 AM Rating: Decent

The quest run down is a little unclear as to what exactly you do after you hit the combine button on "Askr's Bag of Verity" <with the beard, sash, and bone in it,> and it turns into to the "Sealed" bag..

Do you need to hand the "Sealed" bag to Askr or do you just proceed with hailing him?

Please advise anyone who has actually done this quest recently.

Ok once you get the bone, sash, and beard, Combine them in the bag and get the "sealed bag". then turn "sealed bag" to get second Bag of Verity. ONce you get Second bag go get your 2 medals and combine them. then turn that sealed box to get a flag. Once your done go zone into BoT from PoS to complete flag.

Anyone know for sure if the medallion bag that you get can be destroyed and then restored by just saying "What Bastion of Thunder" again to Askr? Or will that just result in you having to do the previous turnins all over again?

I have not tried it but since you have received a character flag from turning in the first combined bag and the game thus knows that you've completed the first part of the quest, I suppose it's possible to just say "what bastion of thunder" to indeed get the 2nd quest bag right away.
