You say, 'Hail, Bor Wharhammer'

Bor Wharhammer says 'Greetin's t'ye ______! Isn't the area 'round 'ere so nice an' quiet? Such a departure from me old days; slaving o'er the forge t'create masterpieces! T'be 'onest, at times I do miss the old forge, but after I created me finest breastplate, it seemed as if nothing else I made could ever live up t'it. So I left me home to'wander the land an' see what I could learn o'the world. I 'ave learned quite a bit from the elders 'ere an' the skilled craftspeople in New Tanaan. I 'ave even devised a type o'emblem that will impart the magic o'tranquility into the user t'create planar armors from pieces o'energy found in the planes.'

You say, 'What emblem?'

Bor Wharhammer says 'Well, the emblems dinnae be easy t'craft but I will gladly give ye one fer the price of 500 platinum pieces. They allow a planes traveler with no craftin' skills t'create many fine pieces o'planar armor in a special, magical kit I also 'ave an' will throw in with the price. The kit acts as a focal point fer the wild magic energy o'the Planes. Ye will only be able t'use each emblem an' kit once when ye create the piece, 'owever I dinnae be goin' anywhere soon! Just venture back when ye need another an' dinnae ferget the coin!'

You say, 'What planar armors?'

Bor Wharhammer says 'From me understanding, the very fabric o'the planes is so strong out 'ere, it can be found in raw form the deeper ye traverse. Anyone who ventures far into the planes finds that they must wear excellent armor t'protect them from the savage environment. The very essence of planar energy can be focused into a form that can fit our shape. As ye progress deeper into the planes, ye will find many molds an' patterns with which t'base a set o'armor. If ye want t'know 'ow t'craft the various types o'armor, I can instruct ye about plate, chain, leather an' silk.'

You say, 'What plate?'

Bor Wharhammer says 'Ahhhhh ______! The fine rigid armor that can stop a shaft from piercing yer heart! Too bad it be so cumbersome an' difficult t'move about in. To construct a piece o'plate armor, ye need t'combine a plate mold, an emblem, various amounts o'sheet metal an' use one o'those crafty Tanaan smithin' 'ammers all within a furnace touched by Ro. Ethereal metal sheet construction is another matter. Ye will need t'combine two bricks o'ethereal energy, an ethereal temper an' a Tanaan smithin' 'ammer within a Tanaan forge. I would seek a skilled craftsperson t'make the metal sheets fer ye; the emblem will enable ye t'craft the final armor piece no matter what yer skill be.'

If you give him 500 platinum pieces:

Bor Wharhammer says 'Wonderful! This coin will go towards me fines with the Myrist library. They charge quite a bit fer overdue volumes! 'ere be yer emblem an' a kit in which ye may craft planar armor. The kit only 'as enough magical energy t'craft one piece before the energies expire, be sure ye understand. May the armor ye make with it provide ye with much protection.'

You receive a class-specific emblem and a Mystical Furnace of Ro, an 8-slot container useful only for combines involving ornate or elemental molds. The ornate molds drop in various zones.

Basic recipe is: appropriate ornate plate mold, class-specific emblem, tanaan smithing hammer, 1-3 ethereal sheets of metal. Combine in the Mystical Furnace of Ro. The final combine is no-fail.

Well, I'm mad. I decided to break out my old 51 Warrior, knock the dust off of him and start playing him. But his gear was pathetic. So, I decided I want to twink him out in full Ornate. Well, having looked at this "quest", I've seen people saying that you have to be level 55 (which I know from my wizard), or you have to have access to a Tier 3 plane (BoT, HoH, Torment, CoD). Well today I got my warrior his PoJ Trial flag and then went to Storms and got his BoT key done. All flagged for BoT at 51, I went to this little sh%thead, Bor Wharhammer, gave him 500 plat, and he then proceded to return it telling me that I'm just not grown up enough. Well, CRAP! So, I deduct from this that Ornate is now level 55+ only. It does not matter if you are flagged for a Tier 3 zone. Now I base this on the fact that I am flagged from PoJ and Storms for BoT access. I don't have flagged access to CoD, Torment, and HoH. Perhaps if you have two, three, or all four of these done, it works, but my guess is no. So, I shall leavel him up 4 more levels I guess to enjoy the armor I spent a lot of plat buying and a lot of time trading for. Hope this helps clarify any questions about getting ornate before level 55.

what level you do you have to be to do this quest
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 20 2004 at 12:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'll never understand why people make such a fuss about ornate. 90% of it is useless in comparison to DROPPABLE gear of the same value. Maybe worthwhile if you win a roll on it, but you could still just sell the mold /pattern and buy something of equal effectiveness. Granted, there are some items that have nice effects (enchanter legs, for example), but by far, the majority is just not very good.
RE: Worth It?
# Nov 03 2004 at 12:55 PM Rating: Default
Nowadays it really isn't worth it all that often, however the molds are droppable if you hunt in the right places, and remember, these were based in the time of the Planes of Power, which is long ago. Then, they were most effective =)

LVL Required?
# Mar 12 2004 at 10:28 AM Rating: Decent
I see three different posts of what level you have to be. I have tried to give him 500pp at lvl 53 warrior (Pimamol) and it did not work, said I need to get my feet into more planes, blah, blah, blah. So my question is can anyone confirm you can do this at 55, I should hit that lvl this weekend as I am almost 54 now.

Thanks Much,

Pimamol

55
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 04 2004 at 10:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) To get the Ornate quest you need to be either 65 or 60 with a number of flags. The closer you get to 65, the less flags you need.
RE: To Bustan
# Jun 13 2004 at 11:50 PM Rating: Decent
They must have changed it. You can get a full set of ornate now at level 55, with no flags. (Or, I have heard, at a lower level, (possibly 46?), with a pre-requsite set of planar flags. Anyone know more about the requirements for a pre-55 ornate ability?

How many Etheral Sheets?
# Jun 15 2003 at 5:15 AM Rating: Default
I just got the plate greaves mold today in BoT. Can anyone tell me how many etheral sheets it takes to make the armor? THe NPC says 1-3 sheets, so I assume greaves would be either 2 or maybe 3 sheets. Does anyone know for sure how many I need?
RE: How many Etheral Sheets?
# Jul 17 2003 at 2:41 PM Rating: Excellent
You need 3 sheets for greaves/bp. 2 sheets for gaunts/vambraces/helm/boots. 1 sheet for bracer.

Standard plate recipies usually take 3 sheets of metal for leggings.

Check out Alla's trade skill section for other plate leggings combines or Trader's Corner at www.eqtraders.com

Was wondering if anybody knew where each mold dropped?
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 23 2003 at 9:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I am not sure about this, but I think you have to be flagged for the zones that they drop in in order to do the quest for the armor.

you get the paterns off mobs in the BoT and higher zones.. rare off trash not so common off named got a pattern tonight but for monk/beast/druid .. anyway it sparked my interest so I went to Bor Wharhammer and talked to him gave him 500pp he gave me the Shadow knight Emblem and Mystical Furnace of Ro a portable forge like thing 8 slot and used to make the armor..

Now you see you take the mold you get put it in the Mystical furnace of ro along with said number of Etheral sheets (this is where the trivial parts come from cause you make the sheets like any other sheets in a forge) once you have sheets, mold, Tanaan smithing hammer and class specific emblem in the Mystical furnace of ro you click combine ... the Class specific emblem ensures you succeed no matter what your smithing skill is.. he even says so.. if you read this and read everything that Bor Wharhammer says you will understand.. your combine for armor is not controlded by your smithing skill but the sheets of Etheral metal are dependend on your smithing skill so Look for someone with high smithing to make these..
