This is the second upgraded warrior pike quest.

You say, 'Hail, Drill Master Kyg'

Drill Master Kyg says 'Welcome. Welcome!! Time to train. Time to fight. Time to serve the Iksar Empire. You will need weapons. I have the [footman pike] for all new recruits to earn.'

    You say, 'what footman pike?'

Drill Master Kyg says 'A footman pike is what you need. A footman pike is what you get, but earn it you will. You must [slay many beasts] to prove to us that you are a true warrior. Fail and you will be exiled to live with the Forsaken.'

You say, 'I will slay many beasts'

Drill Master Kyg says 'Yes. You will slay or you will be slain. Take this footman's pack and fill it you will. Fill it with [weapons of our foes]. When all are combined, the full footman's pack shall be returned to me along with your militia pike. Do this and earn your footman pike and then we may have a true mission for you.'

You say, 'what weapons of our foes?'

Drill Master Kyg says 'Yes. You need to know the weapons required. Fill the pack with javelins. Froglok bounder and goblin hunter javelins. Two of each.'

    You receive a "Footman's Pack" (4-slot container).

Drill Master Kyg has a mission you need to complete if you want to get your Footman's Pike. He wants you to find four javelins, two from froglok bounders (found near the middle of the Swamp of No Hope) and two from goblin hunters (found in the middle of the valley leading to the lake in the Lake of Ill Omen).

About one out of four goblin hunters and froglok bounders will have the javelin. They will equip it if they have it. They are named "Goblin Hunter Javelin" and "Froglok Bounder Javelin". Once you have all four, combine them in the Footman's Pack to receive "Full Footman's Pack".

Return to Drill Master Kyg and hand in your Full Footman's Pack and your Militia Pike.

Drill Master Kyg says 'You were instructed to return with the full footmans pack and your militia pike.'
Drill Master Kyg says 'Kyg knew you could do it. You will make a fine legionnaire some day but, for now, you shall be a footman. Take the footman pike head plans. Forge the footman's pike. Do so, and then you may have an audience with the War Baron on the subject of his [Memory of Sebilis].'
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got better.
Your faction standing with Cabilis Residents got better.
Your faction standing with Scaled Mystics got better.
Your faction standing with Crusaders Of Greenmist got better.
Your faction standing with Swift Tails got better.
    You gain experience!!

You will have received "Footman Head Plans"

You now need to forge your Footman's Pike. Go outside the fort near the forge and find Weaponsmith Grugl. He can tell you how to make your Footman's Pike.

    You say, 'what footman's pike?'

Weaponsmith Grugl says 'To forge a footman pike requires skill as well as an iron rod, forging hammer and a footman pike head. To forge the pike head you will need a geozite tool, raw pike head and petrified redwood if the footman pike head plans are yours.'

Buy a "Raw Pike Head", "Forging Hammer", and an "Iron Rod" from Weaponsmith Grugl.

In a forge, combine "A Raw Pike Head", "Footman Head Plans", "Petrified Redwood" (foraged in Warslik's Woods or dropped from succulents in The Overthere), and your Geozite Tool (obtained by a quest from Drill Master Vygan). You'll receive "Footman's Pike Head" (blacksmithing, 15 trivial). If you fail you'll receive your Geozite Tool and your Footman Head Plans back.

You then need to combine an "Iron Rod", "Forging Hammer", and your "Footman's Pike Head" in the forge to obtain your Footman's Pike. If you fail the combine you'll receive your Footman's Pike Head back (trivial is 21).

Congratulations, you've received your Footman's Pike!

    Fippy Darkpaw/Vulak progression server related.
    # Jul 20 2011 at 10:23 PM Rating: Decent
As of this post and relating to the currently Kunark Era Fippy Darkpaw and Vulak progression servers, an iksar warrior can skip straight the Warlord Mancatcher quest (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=4876) without doing any of the prior steps.

My warrior at the time of doing it is 58 and allied faction with Legion of Calibis. Faction and level may matter, maybe not.

You also still need the Geozite Tool/do the quest to make the Mancatcher. Good hunting.

(Skipping the javelin hunting part as given.)

I turned in the Full Footman's Pack to receive the Footman Head Plans.

    --------------------

I made the Footman's Pike Head on the first attempt.
    * Trivial to me at a blacksmithing skill of 21,
roughly confirms posted listing of trivial at 15.

    --------------------

To make the actual Footman's Pike took me two attempts.

    1st attempt failed:
    -- returned: Footman's Pike Head
-- consumed: Forging Hammer, Iron Rod

    2nd attempt: succeeded:
-- returned: Footman's Pike, Forging Hammer
-- consumed: Footman's Pike Head, Iron Rod

    * Trivial to me at a blacksmithing skill of 21,
much lower than quest write-up that says under 63.

You can MQ this because the Pike Head is not no drop. The stuff like iron rod, raw pike head, and forging hammer are sold by the weaponsmith out front of the warrior builing. Both combines were trivial at 21 blacksmithing when I did it...

I finally got my footman pike, and I'm quite proud of myself. At level 22, the only real problems I had was trying to find Militia Skellies. The Froglok Bounders were a bit hard to get to spawn, but I killed 4 to get the 2 javes I needed. I killed about twice as many goblins for their javes, but just hang out in the outrider camp, killing the outriders and hunters. Others spawn a ways further down, but they take a lot of running to get to, so I'd stick in the outrider camp if I were you.

The redwood took a while to forage, but remember that it isn't stackable, so if you forage something that looks like it, but is stackable, it's oak bark.

Just remember that if you get the WW or SoNH geozite tool quests to go back and get it again till you get the FoB one. The other two will drive you insane (I even lost my corpse on the WW one once!).

This isn't as good as my best weapon, but it's certainly my second best. I'll keep this in primary and my best in secondary, though, as this one can't go in the secondary slot. It's gotta be your #1 or not at all :D

ok here is my problem, i spent 2 days workin on the footman pikes quest thinking it just gave me a weapon. Then after i got my 4 weapons wich werent easy to get!!!!!! i read she said u turn in a diff pike with it, but the prob is u need your newbie weapon to start upgrading on, and i messed up on that, so tomarrow i will be slaving forever to get my newbie weapon back, then i have to fo all the upgrades to that weapon to the footman pike. THIS BITES!!!

    # Apr 11 2002 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
Experimented with Froglok spawn. Seemed to be no specific place holders. Just kill everything on 2nd island to increase spawn rate and bounders will pop eventually. Go at level 10-11 and most stuff on island will give xp. So far 8 bounders no javelins - that bit just down to luck :(

Just an idea -- I have not tried it myself, but yesterday I was in the Swamp of No Hope and met a crouching figure by the name of Footman Moglok. When I hailed him he gave me a sob story, but didn't respond to anything I tried to ask. I wonder if this Footmans Pike could have anything to do with him. Has anyone ever given him the pike?

Finally - Got my 2nd Froglok Bounder Javelin - from an interesting spot - as I was killing Froglok Raiders for the SK weapon quest, right by the Big Pillar near the Iksar Bandit camp in SoNH pops a Bounder, with a rusty hammer - I kill him hoping to get more Raiders to spawn, and lo and behold, not only does he drop the rusty hammer - but *gasp* a Javelin - oh, how many hours did I camp at the 3rd island (where i got my first javelin) looking for this! Don't know if this is a regular drop here or if I just got lucky - but thought I would post - Keep Fighting Warriors

I just did this. Its been changed so u automatically succeed at making these items. Y even get the geozite tool back. The only downfall is that now you cannot increase your skill by making these items. I stood at the first dead tree along the road for about an hour and foraged a petrified redwood and had never used forage before. I think its absolutely worth it.

This quest is a huge time consumer and the weapon you get from it isnt really that great. My friend is an Iksar warrior and he finished this quest when he was level 11 (now 12). He pierces for 21 max and i think that is less than a warrior his level should be piercing for. With my Ogre warrior at level 10 i was slashing in the late 20's early 30's with my Axe of the Iorn Back. Even though that is above average i still think 21 at level 12 is not enough. Im on the Karana server and if you would like to help out my poor friend with a better weapon give him a tell his name is Krayark and he would be happy to recive any dontations (that is if it is better than a footman's pike). I thank you for reading my message and i apoligize to all of you Iksar warriors out there who have done this quest but just remember, it is MUCH easier to just save you money and buy a decent weapon. Not doing insanley long quests like this.

Well duh. The base damage for the Footman's Pike is 10, base damage for the Axe is 16, what did you expect, piercing for 40 with base dmg 10 weapon? People are getting too spoiled, 10 dmg 46 delay isn't that bad at lvl 10 to 12.

I did this quest at lvl 9 and 10 and got loads of exp from it. I like getting into the history and culture of the Iksar, getting the feel of it. I'm going to do each quest as soon as I can reasonably group for it -- the last one, the Legionnaire's Mancatcher, is pretty good for a piercing weapon and looks just like a wurmie.

If you don't think it's worth it, don't do the quests. If someone else is having fun doing the quests, leave 'em alone and stop trying to spoil their fun.

    Sheesh.

"I like getting into the history and culture of the Iksar, getting the feel of it."

I agree, one of the best parts of a role-playing game is how much you learn about the culture of the race/class you are playing. Also, Ogres have more str! "Gee, someone who can lift 150 pounds is going to be able to dole out the same damage as someone who can lift 90 pounds" is what you are basically saying. I like playing an Iksar, they have all this stuff on JUST THEM in their little island. You get to upgrade your weapons through quests, which is awesome, because you get exp, faction, and a good upgrade to your current weapon/armor. I am a level 5 monk, and still on the first monk quest. I have 2 busted froglok shackles so far, and I love it. I really hope that you don't just NOT play Iksar because you think the footman's pike "sucks". I love Iksar, and I will continue to play them.

ok first off the damage cap before level 10 is 21 and after that its 29, so crackin for 21s with a 1 hander mind you is pretty damn good. Im tired of people dising on quests, yes yes I hear it all the time "you could get better at your level" I say this... Hey dumb *** try getting that weapon your talking about with equpiment only you've earned with THAT toon, your chances of getting it are slim to none! I think these quests are great, gives you something else to concentrate on besides leveling, cause maybe its just me, but leveling by it self is boring!

Maybe he is enjoying the unique quests of the Iksar race. I know I am, when Verant made the quests up someone actually took their time and worked them into the culture of the race. Pitty they did not do this with the other races where you can make upgrades to certain class only items from each race.
Also not every body twink their characters, they actualy play each character as a individual.
    I have just one question...
    # Jun 10 2001 at 6:59 PM Rating: Default
Do you loose the forging hammer if you fail, and do you keep it if you dont? 13 plat is a lot to spend on a one use component...
RE: I have just one question...
    # Jul 03 2001 at 7:35 PM Rating: Default
Wether you fail or succeed, a smithing hammer is always returned.
RE: I have just one question...
    # Jun 15 2001 at 10:54 AM Rating: Decent
hehe then you definately wouldn't ever make it as a higher end caster. Some Clerical spells need Peridots, wich are 12pp. There are some spells, not sure what others, that need even more expensive jewels/gems as components. But anyway, to answer your question, I am pretty sure that it was in a patch a few months ago that if you failed in a trade skill like smithing/cooking/tailoring and such that you keep the components such as the hammer and the like.

Well, First of all you go to the second island along the road. After you get there if you are a high enough lvl just wipe everything that spawns on that island. In one EQ day I got 5 Bounders to spawn with and 2 out of the 5 had the javalins.I hope this helps somone.

The post below about the 'cone shaped' valley is pure hokum, I wandered that area and found nothing but goblin battlemasters and bonecasters who were all too happy to kill me and camp my corpse, even thought they conned blue to me. I finally sat in one spot just into the zone and foraged 56 times to get the redwood (in one sitting, at 2 minutes to cycle, that's almost two hours of just foraging).
The goblin hunters were easy to find. I spent another hour or two looking for frogloks with javelins.
Finally, after all that time was invested, I spent a few hours (and more than a few platinum) increasing my smith skill so this recipe would be 100% effective. Unfortunately, at 59 smith skill the recipe still failed on the first try. This caused the petrified redwood to vanish, and as noted elsewhere on the page, closing the forge with the plans and geozite tool causes them to disappear as well.
Petitioning wasted another hour of waiting only to get commiseration (but no replacements) from the guide. The new character turn-in trick got me my Militia Pike back, and I am leaving with that and a valuable lesson.
I strongly recommend spending the time needed to complete this quest on gathering enough money to purchase an upgraded weapon instead. 8 hours in Kurn's will get you enough money to buy the Combine Rapier near the warrior guild if you really want to keep on with Piercing weapons.

I just tried to finish this quest. I lost both my geozite tool and my pike head plans. Silly me didn't know you can't put a no-drop item in a forge and then close the forge. No-drop items disappear.
I spent 6 hours getting the bounder javelins, I turned in my militia pike with the full footmans bag, and now I'm screwed.

Let me just say that making the geozite tool and the pike head plans no-drop is about as dumb as you can get. One mistake and the quest is ruined. So much for this BS.

I am about to complete this Pike Quest as well. One thing to remember folks is that these quests are not done for the the weapon stats (as they are not as good as most weapons I have now) but instead for the cultural value. I am a guild officer in the Scaled Legion of the Oracles of Fate and will wield my pike at guild events and meetings as a sense of cultural pride. I am donned in 3 peices of Trooper Scale and a Militia Pike right now. When I am compete in Trooper Scale and have my Legionares Mancatcher I will look like a real noble among my fellow Iskar.
So keep this in mind when you do these quests.

    # Jul 01 2001 at 7:30 AM Rating: Default
I totally agree with this post. I tend to stay with the "race" related quests and items. This being the whole RPG-online thing of EQ. Yes, I have found better armor/weapons/gear than the ones gained from quests, but you must also think about all the exps/coins/loot/better factions you gain on these quests. Say an item you are in need of just so happens to drop 1 out of 20 on the type of creature that carries it. Sure, the 20th one will drop it, but look at all the exps/coins/loot/better factions you have also gained!
I find it hard to believe some of these posts I've read here. I would rather spend my time on a quest which may give me a "worthless" item, then spend my time leveling at one zone and becoming bored in this way.
Who knows, that "worthless" item may become "valuable" in another EQ patch! He,he. Saying quests that are "worthless"? Maybe you stop playing EQ for awhile, and go read a book or something.

I just did this quest and was a bit leary when I attempted it with a 22 in smithing. But both the headpiece and the pike itself were trivial. Now I am quite enjoying my new footman's pike, which is a pretty decent weapon for a lowbie of 10 or 11... untwinked that is.

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 3:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

I foraged it in about 5 minutes.... I ran to the left of the giant keep, and down into a little cone shaped valley and foraged it almost immediately... try there if you can find the spot... I think you need to be under a tree. Just as with the shaman quest for the mud crabs in which it helps to actually be IN the Lake instead of just in the zone.
