This quest begins with Bruax Grengar, a necromancer guildmaster for the Bloodsabers in the Qeynos Catacombs.

You say, 'Hail, Bruax Grengar'

Bruax Grengar says 'Hail _____. I am Bruax Grengar, master necromancer of the Bloodsabers. I assist not only young necromancers with their training but also aid all those Bloodsabers who have chosen to practice the [sorcerous arts]. If you a practitioner of a sorcerous art I can give you instructions to obtain an [outfit and robe] that will assist you in your work. Once you have been properly outfitted I will also assist you in acquiring a [Staff of the Bloodsabers].'

You say, 'What Staff of the Bloodsabers?'

Bruax Grengar says 'A Staff of the Bloodsabers is a useful implement for young sorcerers dedicated to Bertoxxulous the Plague Lord. I will assist you in the creation of a staff but first you must complete a task for me. The sorcerers of The Order of Three are supporters of Antonius Bayle IV, the haughty ruler of Qeynos. They lend magical aid to the Knights of Thunder and Priests of Life to identify and capture members of the Bloodsabers. A rather troublesome member of The Order of Three, Larkin Tolman, has recently been spotted at a settlement in the Western Plains of Karana. Find this Larkin Tolman and bring me his head.'

After zoning into West Karana from Qeynos Hills follow the wall to your left and slightly past the settlement in the corner, in a nook of trees you'll find Larkin Tolman as well as a Paladin named Lukas Hergo. Both are about level 12 and both will drop their own head (you only need Larkin), a tarnished weapon and some coin.

Larkin Tolman begins to cast a spell.

Bruax Grengar says 'Well done. The Bloodsabers have many enemies within the city of Qeynos and its surrounding regions. You must exercise much caution when not within the safety of our temple here in the Qeynos Catacombs. Take this Rough Bloodsaber Staff and when you have gathered a Giant King Snake Skin, two Gnoll Fangs, and a Giant Fire Beetle Eye, return them to me with this staff and I will complete its construction.'

Turn-in may only require one gnoll fang; need confirmation (see this comment).

Giant King Snake Skin can be found from giant king snakes in the Qeynos Hills. Gnoll Fangs drop from the higher level gnolls in the area (gnoll hunters in Qeynos Hills; Level 7+ gnolls in Blackburrow). Giant Fire Beetle Eyes are an uncommon drop from Giant Fire Beetles in West Karana.

Bring all the items back to Bruax in exchange for a Staff of the Bloodsabers.

Bruax Grengar smooths the shaft of the staff, fashions a grip from the giant king snake skin, secures the giant fire beetle eye in a metal fixture and attaches it to the top of the staff. 'Here is your Staff of the Bloodsabers young Scourge Sorcerer. Go now and spread the disease!'

So Bruax needs 4 items plus the staff requiring 5 turn in slots. I gave him the giant snake skin, giant fire beetle eye and 2 gnoll fans (not stacked) first. He gave me 1 gnoll fang back. I turned in the rough staff alone next and voila one staff of the bloodsabers! I think his text is wrong, looks like he should only ask for 1 gnoll fang. I'd test this theory out, but it took forever to get giant king snakes to spawn! I basically used a high level ranger to wipe out all the "a giant xxx" mobs plus all the snakes. I got one giant king snake to spawn just NW of the Millers hut, the other spawned on the NW side of the newbie area and headed N into the hills.

Good luck to all the young Bertox casters out there, difficult to get the snake skin, but the quest is still doable.

Staff of Bloodsabers
# Apr 01 2003 at 5:24 PM Rating: Decent
Hail!

I have managed over a period of time to get all of the noobie human Necro quests done except for the Staff of the Bloodsabers. I have all of the ingredients except the Giant King Snake skin. I have gotten a couple of these in the past to complete the other portions of the noobie quests...but now I need just one and cannot seem to find any Giant King Snakes at all. I usually look for them in the Q hills area but to no avail this time. I really want to finish this quest before proceeding to anything new. If anyone has one to sell or knows of a different spawn area than the Q hills area...please help a lady out.I have spent considerable time and effort to fulfill the other parts of the noobie quests and do not want to give up! Sigh. Just look for the lady in red if your on the Antonius Bayle European Server...I will be roaming around somewhere looking for that last dratted snake!

I just completed this quest tonight. Stats on the staff are:
Magic Lore NoDrop
2HB skill
33 Delay
9 Dmg
+2 INT
+1 SvD
0.9 Weight

looks like the staff the Priest of Discord has, which seems rather odd to me. how do you form a skull out of 2 gnolls teeth and a giant fire beetle eye? i was imaging a staff with maybe the two teeth fastened to the end, pointed out and down (or up) with the eye fastened to the end. but thats just my overactive imagination /laugh

Obviously, the head was used as the skull... I think the eye was used for the blood stains, and the two teeth used to replace the weak human canines, to give it a more scary image. :Edit: Oh yeah, and the skin to tighten the skull onto the staff.

Humans only
# Dec 13 2002 at 12:24 PM Rating: Excellent
This quest is for humans only. Don't make the same mistake I did. I'm a High Elf, Wizard, and I went throught the trouble of actually hunting down the creatures to include the Giant Snake to get his skin, and when I completed this quest I got the Staff and found out it can only be used by humans. It is a lore item, therefore no selling, trading, etc. I could only destroy it.

Uh you can sell Lore items. Was it No Drop as well?

This is part of the newbie armor/weapon quests for human INT casters that chose Bertoxx as their deity therefore it is no drop.

I would assume you have to stack the snake fangs, or turn in one of the items seperately, as you only get 4 slots to turn items over to an NPC and the needed items plus the rough bloodsaber staff makes 5 items total.

hand-in
# Nov 12 2002 at 2:32 AM Rating: Decent
is the rough staff a container?

he asks for a giant king snake fin, two fangs, a giant fire beetle eye, and the staff...

that's 5 items, and you can only hand him 4 things at a time...unless this is some new multi-quest with yourself sort of quest

just curious really

Giant fire beetle eye comes from queen Qlicknick or some sush only nad has a clickable 1 use effect of make enchanted silver bar. she isnt to hard to get if you really want to finish this quest to see what the reward is but its probly not all that great
the other items aside from the head are very easy to get
RE: .
# Nov 13 2002 at 5:47 PM Rating: Default
no the giant fire beetle eye comes from giant fire beetles like those in WK and the giant king snake skin is the hard to get part since it drops off of a rare mob in qeynos hills
RE: .
# Nov 19 2002 at 6:25 PM Rating: Decent
it does drop off of Queen Klicknick or sumthing like that. To get her to spawn u need to kill the prince and the princess a couple times. She is about a lvl8.

ugh PEOPLE... UGH. It used to be that you could only get the GIANT FIRE BEETLE eyes and legs from the queen. There was and still is a queen that spawns in Qeynos hunting grounds.... there is also one in mistythicket. Both used to be VERY rare. The eye USED to enchant silver... Which made enchanters and jewlcraft nearly useless.... because everyone could do it. I am assuming since they nerfed it, they decided to make it more common place - Hense how rare it was and still is. However now the giant beetles run rampant in East karana, and north karana.... their body parts were also named differently. where there used to be a few, but even more so recently is that they are all over east commons as well. They are much more obtainable. I know because I was doing the bug collection quest in misty when they patched and added the buggies.

im amazed no one has done this and posted it. I might make a necro and just do it. Perhapse it has something good, like magical. it used to be hard to get a magic weapon before 15.

and just a note to those that do not know... shes tough. id even venture to say an undercon, here is why.

1. She casts flame lick... its a low end dot that lowers your resistances.
2. she hits pretty hard for her level, well... just trust me
3. I believe unless im crazy she had some kind of fire spit stuff....like a dd kind of thing
4. when you are about ready to rejoice in killing her... she will explode into 4-5 baby firebeetles... and they will swam you. scared the hell out of me as a new character. I am not sure if they ALL do that, the queen in Qeynos DOES, unless they changed it. As a matter of fact I have seen her, then her babies take out a small cluster of noobies.. :)

as far as gnoll teeth, dont worry about going out to the hills or blackburrow... just kill Flippy darkpaw and his cousin... I am sure at a low level they will be more then happy to come to you and smash you.

out in the hills, usually out kind of by the inn and the surefall glade. The King snake is pretty rare, but i BELIEVE its dropable.... so check merchants. I hear it sells well, and some make the mistake of doing so. (i think like 2pp or close to a pp?)

hope that all helps.

You can get the legs and eyes off the giant fire beetles in WK. I did the enchant silver quest and got them there cause I didnt want to wait around for the Queen to spawn.

I think there is a spawn timer or something because I have noticed that a prince and a princess must be downed within a certain amount of time from each other to get the queen to spawn. Ex: Killing a prince then you or someone else killing a princess within a few minutes will usually spawn the queen, but if you kill a prince today and nobody kills a princess until tomorrow, the queen won't spawn because too much time has passed between the kills. I did notice a long time ago that the eye dropped by the queen had the enchant silver effect but it doesn't anymore. Silver items trivial fairly low, have little in way of magical effects and don't sell for very much anyway so why should enchanters complain about beginning jewellers being able to make magic silver?? They don't start making their money until they start working with gold and the drop rate of the eyes and that they only had 1 charge, and were not stackable made the existence of this item a non-threat to enchanters as far as I'm concerned.
