You can only do this quest with a single group. Completing this quest (or any of the other trials) will give you access to the Plane of Storms and the Plane of Valor.

Talk to Mavuin in the basement cellblock. Hail him and follow the dialogue. He will ask you to plead his case before the Tribunal, agreeing will grant you a character flag.

Head to the area with The Tribunal, and ask them about Mavuin. Following the dialog, saying "I am prepared" to each Tribunal will give you description of the six trials.

To do this one, say "I am ready to begin the Trial of Torture." Make sure you are actually prepared when you say that because your group will be teleported to the event area where you will only get a few seconds before things start.

When you start this trial, you're staring at a T intersection, if you run around to the left you'll see a cubby, and you'll realize that you are in a hallway surrounding a center room. There is a door to the center room on the opposite side from where you started the trial. 4 mobs spawn and two come from each side down the hallway. Mez and kill one at a time as fast as possible. These were shades and razorbeasts and hit for 280-300ish. After you kill all 4, if you were fast, a Wraith of Agony will spawn in the middle room, kill wraith (similar to other mobs) and an ae heal spell will go off. Rinse and repeat for 4 rounds to reach the boss, Punisher Veshtaq. Punisher Veshtaq is similar to the boss of execution, hits for 700s with an added twist of a 100 hp AE every 9 seconds that has a small knockback to interrupt spells. Kill him to loot the Mark of Torture.

Now talk to the Tribunal.

You say, 'What evidence of Mavuin?'

You have received a character flag!

The Tribunal tells you, 'You have completed a trial - impressive for mortals. You can tell Mavuin that we will hear his plea. We will seek him out as time befits us.'

Head back down and talk to Mavuin.

You say, 'Hail, Mavuin'

Mavuin tells you, 'So you have pleaded my case to the Tribunal, I am most thankful. I hope that they will listen to my case soon and release me. The knowledge that I promised you is this. The followers in the Plane of Tranquility are trying to find information on what has happened to Zebuxoruk. What I know is that he has been captured for a second time. If you want to find out more information I believe you should seek an audience with Karana and Mithaniel Marr. I can only assume that they were present at the time of his capture and know why this has taken place. Also seek from Marr a way to translate the divine language. Only with it can you understand the writing of the gods. There is no more that I can tell you, but thank you once again for your attempt in returning my freedom.'

You have received a character flag!

This will flag you to be able to enter the Plane of Storms and Plane of Valor.

Need missing dialogues, /loc of quest mobs.

The prisoners in this oen are called "a tortured prisoner." Behind each one is a non-targetable shadowman-like MOB (no graphic, just a floating name) called "Pain and Suffering."

Just did this trial and got my Mark of Torture and I did NOT have to kill a Wraith after each wave. Was doing it solo with my 75 Monk + Cleric merc for 1.5 quest, and I was barely finishing the 4 mobs before the next 4 would spawn, so no Wraith was spawning. Eventually I popped a disc during the 3rd wave so I could kill them quicker and killed them before the next wave so a Wraith spawned in the middle of room. Killed the Wraith then killed the 4th wave of mobs and Punisher spawned after that with the marks on him. It seems you only need to kill ONE Wraith out of the 4 waves of mobs to get the boss mob to spawn.

"Soloed" (if u want to call it that) with my lvl80 shammy, pet & merc tank.
Don't remember throwing a heal at any time.

Took a couple attempts because prisoners kept despawning. I was just camping in room (per one of the more recent posts here) but that obviously wasn't working too well, so...

NOTE: wraith of Agony can spawn in EITHER of 2 locations: center of room or entry point.

For my sucessful trial it was room, room, entry point. But, considering I never saw him when I was simply camping the room, I suspect that is random :-)

I assume he was spawning at the entry point on my failures (and not engaged) so the prisoners poofed.

Punisher Veshtaq then spawned in room for final.

I pulled mobs toward door in hall, killed wave, located spawn, repeat x 4. There is time to do all that running around.

Buggy but doable
# Oct 05 2008 at 2:56 PM Rating: Excellent
This trial is quite buggy, but still doable.
First off, the person that says "ready to begin the trial of torture" will NOT be ported into the trial, so make sure this person isn't needed.

Next, once you zone in you are standing at the top of some stairs. Leave a person that is capable of soloing the wraith of agony at this point, as the wraith can spawn either in the prisoners room or at this spot. (Obviously you can leave more than 1 person here, just in my case I had 4 toons all together, 1 person stuck outside, 1 person top of the stairs and 2 in the prisoners room).

Finally, have others go into the prisoners room and be ready to kill mobs. In my case I just let the mobs roam on into the room and killed them as they came in. Upon defeating a round of mobs, the wraith of agony can spawn in either the prisoner room or the top of the stairs. Leaving this mob up unattended is what causes the prisoners to vanish and the trial to fail, so make sure to engage him quickly.

Once 4 rounds of mobs (16 mobs total) and any wraith of agony that spawn are killed, the Punisher will spawn in the middle of the prisoners room. Kill him to receive your marks and the shaman 1.5 piece if that is what you are doing.

Hopefully this will help folks that are trying to do this trial, especially those shaman working their 1.5

*EDIT* Also I forgot to mention, I did run into a bug that 1 of my toons wasn't able to do anything while in the trial. Attempting to attack caused the message to say the mob was out of range. When I looked on my screen for the toon that got stuck outside, it still showed my other toon out there spinning circles. If you get this bug, you are best off to just let the trial fail and then restart. In order to do this, the person that is bugged will need to camp out and upon log in it will put them back out on the platform with the tribunal.

As of 10-10-08 they will not teleport anyone over level 75 into the trials..

Tried with my 75sham 80zerker... Just the shaman would get teleported in..
Tired with my 75sham 79paladin... Just the shaman would get teleported in..

This indeed seems broke. I tried doing it 4 times with a 69 shaman, 68 magician and 68 bard. The shaman asking for the trial, did NOT get ported in with the others. The shaman needs this for his 1.5, so this is indeed frustrating.

after the first 3 waves of 4, which pop 2 each in each alcove, the wraith pops where you zone in, NOT in the central room. after 4th wave, no wraith pops, it goes straight to the final boss

I had problems on this one at first.i did it with a 67 monk and a 79 shammy. The prisoners kept despawning on me and i couldnt figure it out.so on like the 5th try at this i parked the shammy in the round room in the middle and had the monk pull both sides of mobs to the center room and kill them as fast as possible.I noticed that when left on their own to come to the center room they move really slow.so the timer must start as soon as they spawn. If you dont get that guy that spawns after you kill the 4 mobs, the prisioners will despawn and you have failed.

easily boxed 2day... took 2 tries. didn't realize during first try that the wraith would go after the prisoners immediately, and i didnt even see them get wiped..

Did this for my shaman 1.5..Boxed 75 sk/ 75 shaman...Just kept using AE taunt and only one time did I have to heal SK w/ shaman HoT. Everything else was cake pretty much..AE slow, then AE taunt..didn't have to slow really but I did anyway.

On fight with last guy, never had to heal self. only had 2300 ac on SK.

Lol scrolling through the logs the wave mobs hit harder then boss..Nemesis of pain hit me for 234 highest from what i read, Punisher hit me 161 as hardest, and only hit a total of 4x. 137 once and the other 3x for 161..Although he did hit shammy for 692.

when my group first attempted this trial we had same problem that many of u seemed to have after killin first set of mobs we went into prisoners room and they were all gone/dead. so second attempt i came up with this strategy. Immediately appon zone in group runs into the prisoner room. with 2 pullers outside 1 at north cubby spawn and one at south cubby spawn. Their job is to gain aggro and pull mobs into the prisoners room. Kill the mobs and then a wraith of agony will spawn at the spot where group initially zoned in. This guy summons and hits harder than other mobs so becareful when pulling it may be wise to have a healer follow the puller on this one just in case (dependin on level). Repeat this till Punisher Vestaq spawns and then deal with him. I understand he's slowable which is a good idea since he does pretty decent damage. k well thats what we used hope it helps u guys good huntin

Tried this trial 2 times today. During the second wave both times, the prisoners depop and we failed. We had mad DPS and Agony died faster then most of us could even get to the middle room... don't know what happened?

Update for you... This trial is pretty easy now. The boss mob is most-definitely slowable. 70 shammy slowed him on first try.

Problem with prisoners is that the Wraith does not always pop in middle. He's a hard to find spectre. We had tank sit in middle and it worked to get agro from him before he could kill the prisoners. The trick to this is definitely to find the Wraith of Agony ASAP. After that, it's cake.

Run and park in middle of the room with prisoners. Facing the door, you've got 2 Razorfiends coming from left and 2 shades from the right on each wave. Pull them or wait for them.

Kill each wave, sit for agro or find the Wraith ASAP because he will cast on prisoners if not agroed. Try having tank sit for a second and others walk around near walls to get agro. On the 4th wave you don't get a wraith, you get the boss. His HT was about 700.

Let me squash the rumors and post best of what I can.

The room is a big circle with prisoners down below in the middle if the "O". There is only 1 door accessable to them which is on the opposite side of where you 1st zone into trial.

Move your group to in front of that door.

Mobs spawn in the niches on the left and right side (you pass them to get to the prisoner door)

Kill them asap. Once the last one of each wave is dead a "Wraith of Agony" spawns. As reported he does spawn in middle of room. But he also spawns in different locations. Have someone in group scout for him when he pops (tracker works well) and pull him to group. From what I could tell the longer he is up or if you dont notice him the prisoners die.

So after 4th mob of each wave kill him asap. I would head down to prisoner room to aggro him once group killed last mob of wave. If he didnt spawn I would run around the trial until I found him. Worked well. Boss is not too bad if you have a descent tank.

I would say CC (crowd control)is a must here though as mobs hit fast and can kill your healers fast.

This is probably the easiest of the trials. The only thing that makes it difficult is the boss.

When trial starts, you are by the Agent of the Tribunal in one end of the area. There is a loop around a central room, travel 180 degrees around this loop, then enter the central room.

About 20-40 seconds later, the first wave spawns. Waves consist of Razorfiends and shades. All are level 57 or lower and non-named have 10-15k hp. Named have around 20khp.

The shades are mezzable, the razorfiends are not. However, when they spawn, the razorfiends buff themselves and possibly the shades that spawn with them so the shades will wander in first. Unless all 4 spawns are shades, you should mez them as they come in and wait for the razorfiends. Unlike the other trials, this one allows much more time. A new wave will spawn when you finish one wave, you will not have overlap unless you take around 10 minutes per wave.

After each wave (supposedly if you kill fast enough), a banshee/spectre will spawn on top of you, kill it for an AE heal and the next wave.

The boss is unslowable, rampages, hits for 900ish and casts an AE stun every 9 seconds. This means that you can NOT complete heal your tank. Fast heal and fast dps is the only way to kill him. Like I said, he's the only part of this trial that's hard.

Part of this does not seem to be true. We took considerably less than 10 minutes per wave, and they were respawning on us with still one or two mobs still in camp. Group was 66SK, 66Shm, 67Bst, 60Dru, 61Enc, 65Mnk. Our tactic was to mez the casters and tank/offtank the melee mobs. As we were finished off the third mob in wave 1 (4th was mezzed), a new wave spawned. We weren't exactly slow, either, so I'm estimating 5 minutes or less.
Waves come at regular intervals, seemingly regardless of whether mobs from the previous wave are still up.

One question, I have read almost all I can about the flagging and I'am kinda confused. Do you need to complete all the PoJ trials to be Ep flagged? Like for instance, if you complete say this trial and no other PoJ trials and go onto other zones like say, PoD, PoI ect.. Can u get EP flagged?

Complete one or more of any of the trials to be flagged for PoV, and to continue your planar progression.

If you do all the trials, you get to do the 7th hammer trial, but this is unrelated to planar progression

yes, all trials are needed to get to 7th hammer, but that is a single encounter zone, and not needed to get to EP or time

Torture bugged?

My guild is Time flagged, and we took a group in to do all 6 trials. Breezed through them all but this one. For some reason the prisioners poofed! after round 1. We did the trial twice with the same result each time, what I think was that the trial of flame next door was aoe'ing the prisioners, killing them, since we were getting dotted sometimes from the wave of heat. Anyone else have this problem?

Similar problem today - only the first two shades would spawn. We would kill them, and no more would come. The prisoners were also toast. I reported the bug and will follow up if I learn anything more about the reason for it.

Edit Note: I must have been asleep when I wrote this. My note below refers to Trial of Stoning, which I found difficult because of bugs. Trial of Torture went very smoothly. One try/one success.
--------------------------------------------------

Successfully did all six trials yesterday. We had four failures in total, three on this trial alone.

There are clearly some bugs.

First attempt - boss mob did not spawn at end. There were only three spawns in the first wave (should have been four).

Second/third attempts - A prisoner killed by the archers.

Fourth attempt - Successful.

It took us a while to figure out why the prisoners were dying. In our first bugged attempt, the prisoners were no problem, because the archers were attacking only one player (me).

In the second/third attempts, the archers were attacking a prisoner, but leaving us alone.

In the fourth attempt, mobs were pulled right in front of the two archers. The archers again attacked only one player (cleric), but left the prisoners alone.

Standing in front of the prisoners does not stop archer damage.

OK here's the down and dirty on THIS trial. This is NOT a timed trial which means that there is no pressure to kill them crazy fast like in execution however the down side is that the 4 waves of 4 mobs will just keep on coming if you take too long.

Now at the start of this trial when you poof in, do not be on a steed or lizard because you have some running to do. Start running to the left and go around to the back and into the center room. Once in there, summon your pets and mounts and get ready for action. Place the healers and casters in the back of the room and the melees closest to the stairs.
In this trial, 4 waves of 4 mobs spawn and head into the center room. The razorfiends are all casters and are all UNMEZZABLE, the Shades are non casters and are all mezzable. Because the razors are caster they sometimes take longer to wander into the room cuz they are buffing themselves or calling their mothers to pray for victory or whatever. You MUST resist the temptation to start killing the shades, have your enchanter mezz them and either wait for the razors or send your tank up to smack one and run back down. Kill the razors then start in on the shades. Never Ever kill all 4 mobs in the first round, killing too fast makes an extra mob spawn and who wants that? As an enchanter, I find a nice juicy shade to keep mezzed for the entire battle. Once you find your sacrificial mezz shade, then proceed with the trial by killing everything that moves.. Always mezz shades and kill razors first. These mobs have WAY more hit points than the execution mobs and they hit harder and faster too.

NOW the wonderful trick and key to success for the trial of Torture is that once you clear wave 4 and as long as you have kept 1 mob mezzed, the boss doesn't spawn. Just keep your shade sleeping and your group can med up to full before triggering the boss which is a very good idea because this boss is hard.

When you are good and ready, and have all medded back to full mana, Kill the last mezzed shade and the boss will spawn dead center of the room. This boss cannot be slowed or snared and he procs a 100HP aoe knockback every 9 seconds which makes Complete heal Impossible. As a caster you must WAIT for yourself to get stunned and cast immediately afterwards. Clerics need to mem their big fast heals and try to slip a heal in between AOE interrupts. Other than that, he's not that hard, expecially since you all are full mana going into it.
So kill boss, Loot marks and run back to the port in and say "return" to get out.

Oh one more thing, once this trial starts you cannot exit since it is not timed and you cannot fail without wiping out. So if someone dies, keep on trucking or have an evac ready.

Good Luck,

Whom Everr 65 Enchanter of Quellious

No idea on hp. But think they're about the same as the mob in execution. They hit for more thou, also all mobs here seems are spell caster. They root and DD for 550.

Think both type of mobs are mezable. Actually you don't need to worry about mez very much in here, since only 2 will spawn on each side. If you fight them at where they spawn, the other 2 spawn at the other side won't agro you. If mobs spawn and no one attack them they'll leave their spwan point and walk into the center room.

There'll be a short break between each wave, but just like any other trial, the break only last around 10 seconds, sometime less. Don't count on it to do any serious medding.

I'm not sure about slow. Didn't see any immune to slow message last time I was there. But slow spell only slightly affect some of them, meaning a 75 percent slow won't slow them for a full 75 percent. Bad news.

Hope the info helps.

A couple more questions:

Is this a DPS encounter - ie, do you have a certain amount of time to kill each mob before the next one spawns (or you lose the trial) or is it more about damage control.

Also - what are the conditions for loss?

Most people I've talked to say this is a great deal harder than the trial of execution but can't give me a reason why. I'd appreciate any extra info.

It is a DPS encounter. You have to kill all 4 mobs, and the agony in the center of the room before all prisoners die. As it said above, when the agony die it will proc an AE heal to all the prisoners. But I don't know whether it's a AE COMPLETE heal or just a normal heal. IF it's a normal heal, then I suppose if you kill the Agony faster, the prisoners will have more hp in the next wave. Just my personal thought, never tested it before.
