The lady you turn the polar bear pelts into is a merchant. That means the worse her faction can be to anyone is dubious. So anyone can do this quest. You only need invisiblity to get inside halas and hand in the pelts when no guards are outside walking by. If they do they will kill you if your kos to wolves of the north the barbarian warrior guild / guards. This quest raises faction with the guards, merchants and shamans. I have gotten both my necro and ogre warrior to amiable or better to all three factions with this quest. Takes a lot of pelts though. But opens up other quest like gnoll fangs to the warriors.

After doin the gnoll fang quest quite a few times and not seeing much impovement in my merchant faction i decided to give this quest a shot. Maybe it's all in my head, but this quest seemed to shoot up the faction much faster than the fang quest, and i quickly went from dubious to aimable. It was really a good way to make money also, i went around Halas buyin all the skins a could find, which cost me about 1 gold, then i turned the skin in for about 1.5 gold and a peice of armore that I sold for about 1.5 to 2.5 gold (tunic)

well there ertainly are alot of posts here i guess i'll add my 2 cp worth :).
ok first of all faction is VERY importantfor alot of races/classes in halas i havea lvl 41 necro named recnam orcena who is doing this quest it isvery tricky for evil to be here in halas but it canbe done lemme tell you about it
you need a friend to be your lookout for guards hand cindi 4 polarbear skins invis BEFORE you clickthe trade button invis whenever there is a guard around this is a great way t start working faction which you will need to getinto halas to get yur potion of sorrowfor the mantle of souls quest
i know i know i cant actually do the quest till lvl 50 and will need a few good friends to kill the dark assassin and alica peaceheart but this is the best place to start the quest as like i said FACTION is very important to many races/classes in halas so the first step is underway gotta love them polarbears

just one other note it seems they nurfedthe nuub areas there re ALOT less polarbear cubs then there once was and in 4 hours of slaughtering the poor beasts only got 18 polarbear skins and1 hq bearsin (which i traded for 4 polarbear skins) has anyone else noticed the delcine inpopulation of the nuub areas??

This is a great quest if you are at levels 1-5 and you have a high level friend. I dinged 5 from level 3 just on this quest. Took about 15 minutes.

I recently created a Barbarian Shaman and did this quest as soon as I was high enough level to survive fighting the polar bears. Okay, I was buffed up by some random lvl 50 player, but hey...

At lvl 4 I handed in 3 polar bear skins just after I dinged, and I got a little gold (can't remember now - can't have been an amazing amount!). The experience though was another matter - after handing the 3 pelts to her, not only did I get the quite useful armour for my level, I also got just over 4 yellow bubs of xp. Not bad for stuff that I'd have been killing anyway.
I'm now going to go back and try to get some more pieces of armour from her. And hopefully enough experience to set me on my way to the lovely lvl 9 - can anyone say SOW..? :)
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 12 2002 at 4:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) THAT'S SOME BULL!! you can tailor any piece of armor, besides rings, earrings, ammo, (no, DUH) and ranged. you just have to go to the everfrost peaks and talk to one of those 2 ppl by the lvl 5 barb "guard" ( if you can call him that )

I'd imagine he's commenting about the part above in the quest description which stats, as of 4/10/03, "For those of you working on that complete set of patchwork, she sometimes gives the pieces that are not available to tailor."

I sold her three polar bear pelts and only received 1gold,9silver and three copper pieces each time i sold them. Is there something you need to say to her before you sell the pelts.

You need to give her the pelts in a trade window, not sell them to her in the merchant window. You should pick up the skin on your cursor and click on Cindl.

I just did this quest last night, turning in 6 or 7 pelts, and my lvl 4 bar/war got enough xp to ding 5. So why don't the pelts sell for 1 plat like the CB belts on faydwer? Seems like the same XP, same reward (armor) plus you get a gold back?

because. the orcs are like level 12ish. and the bears are like 4-5ish. AND the pelts are more common, since you can use anyhting other then ruined. So thats why. Ususally crush bone belts are used by twinks or new characters with a lot of money that want to rocket through 1-10ish. These can be hunted as low as lvl 3 I think. So thats why.

When you do this quest, try to give Cindl 4 white skins at a time. This seems to improve the odds of you getting different armor pieces. When you give her one at a time, you seem to get a lot of the same item.

    # Jan 22 2002 at 10:04 PM Rating: Default
    Query--

How can I improve faction with the Guards at Halas? I tried doing this quest a few times and it briefly got me up to indifferent with the guards but the second I camped there, it went back to Dubiously. As a level 6 Erudite Enchanter, It's tough trying to improve my relations with these people as is, and any illusion I cast only lowers faction even more. Any Ideas?

As Valdon said, kill lots of gnolls. Save the fangs, as they are more important for faction than the gnoll kills. As soon as you can survive a walk into Halas, give them (3 at a time) to Lysbith McNaff in the Pit of Doom (warrior arena).

You can also kill ice goblins as you see them. Once your faction with Wolves of the North is high enough (I believe amiable is required), Lysbith will permit you to give her ice goblin necklaces (6 at a time, combined in a box she gives you), which will further improve your faction.

If you are high enough level, hunt snow orcs on the Everfrost plains (level 6 is not high enough). These give you good faction, and the Wrath Orc wristbands can also be turned in to Lysbith for faction. Once again, you need good faction with the Wolves of the North before she will let you turn these in.

    Good luck.

Yes, 6 isn't high enough for the snow orcs. They conned white and yellow to my lvl 7 barb shaman, and when I accidentally got into a fight with a yellow one, he wiped the floor with me. Same result with the even con.
I had previously won fights with yellow polar bears, but the orcs seemed to hit a hell of a lot harder. Just my 2cp. :)

The one time you noticed it was indifferent, did you happen to have cast the enchanter spell on yourself that makes you appear to be a barbarian? Maybe you didn't gain faction, just deceived them.

I did this quest with my rogue to help with faction but got some experience and gold too. It is wonderful for my Barbarian Shaman and the armor I got as a low level character was the envy of all others. Newbies mistook me for an upper level character all the time. Between this and the Tribuna Initiate quest I have some decent stuff for a low level Shaman.

This doesn't seem to be available for Shamans. My Barbarian Warrior got great experience from this quest but when I created a Barbarian Shaman Cindl won't speak to me or give anything but a 'thanks' when I give her the pelts.

I have a Shaman and this quest worked for me. At lower lvls, I got good exp and great rewards. One thing I do know about talking to Cindl, you need to have direct contact with her. Meaning, stand right next to her, not on the opposite side of the counter. I never had to talk to her about the White Polar Bear Pelts, I just gave them to her and I got the armor, exp and the money in return.

Maybe she is more amenable to the trade by giving you that armor, when a big Barb guy is rubbing up against her? =) Then again maybe she does it for anyone who rubs up against her, it does stay cold there ;). Did this with my Shammy Rojaan and was a great exp and equipment generator. I suggest it highly for all you noobies out there.

White Polar Bear skins. They look white when you loot them off the polar bears. You may have been giving Cindl the brown HQ and MQ pelts. Good luck!

It costs 2 gold 1 silver to buy a polar bear skin. When you turn one in you get a gold and the armor you get also sells for more than a gold. Even if you have to buy your pelts this is a no-lose quest: XP, faction, and money. On a good day you can buy literally hundreds of polar bear skins from the merchants in Everfrost.
