Find Ramos Jerwan in the Plane of Knowledge (a barbarian near a pool at location -30, +1430) and hail him.

You say, 'Hail, Ramos Jerwan'

Ramos Jerwan says 'Good day traveler... perhaps you have come to help me with my studies?'

You say, 'I can help you with your studies.'

Ramos Jerwan says 'It's quite simple really. I'm interested in studying some aquatic specimens from around the planes... will you take up your pole and give me a hand?'

You say, 'How can I give you a hand?'

Ramos Jerwan says 'There are some particularly interesting cichlid swimming about in the Plane of Nightmare. I also hear the discus in the Plane of Valor are quite plentiful. I need you to bring me two sets of bones from each for study. You do know how to extract them, yes? If not, I believe the lovely Peras Glickon may have something that can instruct you. Best of luck lad.'

Nightmare Cichlid are fished in Plane of Nightmare, and Vallorian [sic] Discus are fished in Plane of Valor. Prepare these as per the standard prepared fish recipe: fish, roots, celandine herb, filleting knife in a tackle box, trivial 182. Give two of each type of bones to Ramos Jerwan.

Ramos Jerwan says 'Ah, you've done quite well. Take this, it's a special gift I recovered from a recent adventure, and I can think of no greater person to keep it than you. Remember if you're in need of fishing supplies, come see us any time.'

The reward is Fisherman's Companion, which summons Brell's Fishing Pole, adds 3% to Fishing skill, and, most importantly, summons ale.

Go fish :
- 2 x Nightmare Cichlid in polane of Nightmare.
- 2 x Vallorian Discus in Plane of Valor.

In PoK :
- Buy 4 x Celandine Herb (alcemist or baker vendor)
- Get or craft ONE Filleting Knife (Smithing, 76 trivial)
- Forage or buy at bazaar 2 x Roots

Now, in fishing table combine 1 x Herb, the knife, 1 x root and 1 fish (any fish, but one) and repeat this for the 4 fishs you get.
You will have 4 x Prepared Fish, 2 x Vallorian Discus Bones and 2 x Nightmare Cichlid Bones.

Give the 4 bones to Ramos Jerwan [Fishing Supplies] and TADAAAAAAAAA... grats you on Fisherman's Companion !

PS : Click the Fisherman's Companion to get a Brell's Fishin' Pole, click the Brell's Fishin' Pole and get Summoned: Ale.
Now, you are ready to go fishing fish.

Anziok Bait Dispenser - a device for summoning bait - can buy in Bazaar. Use one fresh fish and get stack of ten bait - they stack to 100 and are not temporary. You can use the fresh fish you catch for an endless supply of bait. Can purchase for 3500 to 6000 Platt.

I have had mixed fortunes with the bait dispenser. My first one was a gift, offered in the General channel, and I jumped at it - as you would! My second (for my second account, to be placed in the Shared Bank slots when not in use) cost 9999pp! Inflation or greed? :D

On Firiona Vie, that Anizok's Bait Dispenser is currently in the Bazaar at ONE MILLION PLATINUM! I need to create a Tinker but that is a very slow project indeed.

Anizok's Bait Dispenser will not summon bait, rather, it converts fish into bait.
Not every fish can be converted into bait but most typically make 10.
Ramos has an unlimited supply of Fresh Fish, one will make 10 Homemade Bait.
Homemade Bait now stacks to 250 !
That's fantastic used in league with something like an Extraplanar Trade Satchel.

Wanted to do a simple quest today so I bought a ton of bait and a couple of poles (they break). I headed to the OC camp in PoV first, where I got my fishing up to 115 by the time i caught 3 Vallorian Discus's. Then I went to PoN and already caught 13 Cechlids by the time I reached 151 in fishing.

I was able to do the combines at 151 with no fails, even though I fished for extra Discus and Echlids just to be safe. Had 357 wis and shammy buffs + yaulp 6 put me at 405 dex.

**The prize you get (Fisherman's companion) is NOT A fishing pole** so dont get all worried like i did when you dont see one on your cursor or inventory. It looks like a chest and goes straight to an open inventory or bag slot. Happy ale summoning! :-)

Also, something weird happened when i turned in the bones - my char's helmet and hair disappeared. But as with most graphic bugs, they returned after I zoned.

This has got to be the easiest quest ever..I don't know how the horror stories happened. Used Sneak/Hide to each place, fished for 5 minutes in each place to get both fish, didn't fail any combine. This is with 204(bait) fishing skill. I'd imagine it wouldn't be that much more difficult if your skill was at the trivial level for the combines.

Started fishing in PoV since it's safer than PoN. Started with skill of 110, 13 STACKS of Catch-A-Lot bait using Collapsible Pole yielded 16 Vallorian Discuses (and 8 or 9 Crawdad lol it's fun catching those, it looks like a named mob... You have caught Crawdad.). Didn't want to lose them all so I decided to try filleting regular Fresh Fish, also hoping to gain some skill lvls. Blew 300some pp on 3 stacks of the herbs, bought roots in baz for 5s each (1pp/stack). With 3 stacks of everything, came out with 27 fish bones/prepared fish, gained 2 lvls of fishing. Near 45% success, but I'll wait until I have a full stack of each, then make 2 bones and sell any remaining fish, which are currently going for 100-200 each. After all that my fishing is up to 126. I think it's fun and can't wait to hit PoN =)
Fairly safe spot I found in PoN

A short distance from the waterfall is a small "left then right" turn to the channel. Stand on the west side of it at the point where it comes back left. I fish there with Sneak and Hide active with no mobs agroing on me at all.

For PoV, just follow the south zone wall to the right, when facing it (West). Then, just sit at the end of the River (By the Fiend caves), nothing spawns there, so you'll be safe unless someone is pulling and dies.

As for making the bones, its better to find a good fisherman to do it, the combine very high, so theres always a good chance of failure unless you're an excellent fisherman. All you need is: the fish, a filleting knife (Water Flask + Scaler Mold + Metal Bits - Smithing 76), a roots (talk to a foraging class, we usually have oodles of them), and a celladnine herb (Western trader building in PoK, up to the right from the pond, on the left side of the room, a barb Alchemy vendor).

PoN Cichlid
# Jun 06 2004 at 5:09 PM Rating: Decent
Just started looking around to find a spot to fish in PoN. Tried the waterfall a few times but i had 3 spiders sitting just besides the river so i couldn't get close enough to the water without getting aggroed. Heard about docks but couldn't find it so i'm posting the location of it here.
Docks in PoN:
It's in the middle of the river on the east side loc (0,0) hehe. Been here for 5 minutes and I i've already gotten 2 Cichlids.
Good luck getting yours.

Well, it is not silly, but it is fun and a nice break from the continual exp grind.

Start your quest in PoK by doing some shopping. Load up a tackle box, a couple of fishing polls and about eight (8) stacks of Catch-O-Lot bait. A stack of bait fits nicely into the ammo slot and then you can head out to PoN or PoV.

A couple of things of note...

I was unable to find the Celandine Herb in PoK. I checked every vendor in the zone and none was to be found. I ended up going to Thurgadin and buying from Hulda in the Thurgadin Exchange. It was slightly above 5pp per herb and a half stack will do just fine (see below).

The skinning knife is easy enough to make when you are in PoK. All of the ingredients are in the zone, but they are scattered. Consult your local druid or elf-type person for roots (again, half a stack is more than enough).

I headed to PoN first. This is the tougher of the two zone in which to fish, IMO. When you zone in, you will be in the GY and facing the zone wall. Run to it and then levitate and invis (if you have that ability). Turn to your left and hug the wall until you reach the small waterfall that turns into the river. You can park yourself just above where the water hits the bottom rocks to start the river. However, be very careful.

Very close to this area is a spawn point to your right of a blood raven (cannot see through invis). To your left will be a return point for a virtulent spider (meaning that when the spider is aggroed and the people flee to the PoT stone to zone out, the spider will return not to the spawn point, but closer to the beginning of the river. If you can stay invis, do so. If not, pull back as far as you can to avoid any aggro. (Note: No matter how hard you try, there will be people who will pull those mobs right over you, invis or not. Just be mindful of groups pulling from the area.)

In PoV, you will zone into the GY and you need to face, again, a zone wall (face away from the wandering spirit in the GY). Go to the wall and hang a sharp left. Follow the wall to the lake. I never saw anything that I was KOS to on my trip. There will be a quest mom to your left and some various neutral (I think) mobs. The worst I saw were the ridgebacks that were scowling and the tree frog near the river that sees me as dubious. Park yourself near the edge of the lake with your back to the zone wall. The only time I had trouble was when a bard decided to kite a ridgeback right over me. /rude

As for the fishing, be prepared to catch lots of fresh fish, fish scales, sandals, etc. The two types of fish you need are uncommon, but you can get at least two every 30 minutes if you have a fishing skill above 100.

Immediately after catching one of the fish needed, I immediately do the combine in the tackle box. With a fishing skill of 146, I was able to get to bones of each type (4 total) in about 10 tries. If you succeed, you will get the bones, Prepare Fish and your skinning knife returned. If you fail, you get your skinning knife returned. I found that you can easily complete this quest with a little patience and very little money.

I did check out the Bazaar for the bones and while they were plentiful, I wasn't willing to pay on average 400 pp per attempt (Lanys T'Vyl server).

I returned the two sets of each bone type to Ramos and was given the Fisherman's Companion. It will be in your inventory and will look like a treasure chest. You must put this in an open inventory slot (not in a container) to cast it. Ten (10) seconds later, you get Brell's fishing pole. If you want the free ale, you must equip the fishing pole and 2.5 seconds later, it's Happy Hour.

I think the total time I spent on the quest was about two hours. The biggest time sink was scouring PoK looking for the Herb which, I am convinced, is not a regular part of the selling table on the fishing supplies people in PoK. I could have saved myself a good 30 minutes by just going to Thurgadin.

Good luck, have fun, get your Fisherman's Companion and have a cold one for me!

Was trying this today and havent been able to fish yet. Just as Althairic says, there is a spider that comes here sometimes and he does see through invisi. Also there seems to be 2 ravens there instead of just one. The good news for Necros, SKs and Monks is that you can FD and still fish!

If you go further south on the side of the river nearest the GY there is a safe spot just north of the slarghilugs.

The herb is sold in the Western trader building in Plane of Knowledge. The room is to the left of the room with the three dark elven poison merchants. The barbarian male on the far left in the room sells the herb. The icon is like Grave Moss and is around 5.5 platinum a piece.

Get 2 Nightmare Cichlid Bones and 2 Vallorian Discus Bones, either by buying them from the Bazaar or by fishing and preparing them. Then hand them *unstacked* to Ramos Jerwan (a barbarian near the pool in Plane of Knowledge at location -30, +1430) so all 4 slots of the trade window are filled. In return he hands you the Fisherman's Companion.

if your a forager do both at the same time hit fishing then hit forage. you cannot hit forage then fishing it wont work that way dont ask me why. you get the vegetables for other recipes and the crawdads roots fish ect. water. it all works together.

RE: fishing and foraging
# Apr 24 2004 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
The reason is simple. You can't Fish if you have something on the cursor. So if you Forage successfully, it blocks the ability to Fish since you have something in your hand. If you Foraged, but found no food or water, you'd then be able to hit Fishing straight away. Smiley: drunk
