You say, 'Hail, Gwiraba Gelrid'

Gwiraba Gelrid says 'Good day to you, ______. By the looks of things you have learned quite a bit about planar combat already, but if you wish to be truly knowledgeable on the subject, there is one last course you must undertake. Using your newfound courage and bravery, you must collect for me a Sandstorm Gem, a Rage Filled Gem, and a Blue Diamond. Bring me these items along with your Intermediate Combat Manual. And remember, unless you have the moral nerve to live out your convictions, they are of little account.'

Sandstorm Gems drop in Torden, Bastion of Thunder. Rage Filled Gems drop from named in Drunder, Fortress of Zek (Plane of Tactics).

Upon handing in the items:

Gwiraba Gelrid says 'I must say, this is a surprise. I was beginning to wonder if you would ever return with these. I'm glad you see you have though. Take this new book and use it well in your future journeys. You may also be interested to know that Tenada Jeried also has a few lesson plans for very advanced students. If you should see him, be sure to tell him you are interested in learning from him. Good luck to you, ______!'

Here's how I did mine my shammy had 2 of the advanced books ( Stealth & Magic ) and just looted the JB power source and Hope Stone , but I wanted to switch and do this quest for necro. So I let my necro do the beginner combat manual. Then came back handed in the sand gem , rage filled gem , Intermediate Combat Manual , and crossed my fingers and let my necro turn in the blue diamond last. She was givin the Advanced Combat Manual . I was happy let my shammy give the other two books and hope stone and necro turned in the Adv. Combat Manual and got it !

The quest here shows just blue diamond and intermediate combat manual .... you must have the extra gems.
This really worth it?

On the way to Vallon Zek? Bastion of Thunder? I don't think this quest is really worth the effort you have to put into it, and the mobs you have to kill. If you're hunting in Bastion Thunder, you can get some pretty good stuff without having to do week-long quests. Though, I admit, 12STA is rather nice, shouldn't one be almost maxed on STR at the time one can do this quest? Given, I could be wrong, but something is missing, like an extra reward should be there. Maybe some saves or something, I dunno, but for a week-long quest, this would put a bad taste in my mouth for how long I've worked for it.

In my opinion, it is definitely worth it, for everyone to do all 3 of the advanced book quests, for one simple reason-they are used to get an uber secondary/range item that is all/all with +15 to every stat, +10 to all saves, +75 to both hp and mana, and has a focus effect similiar to mana preservation 4, but it isn't mp4 so it may stack (not certain on the stacking part). But in order to get that ya got drop Fennin Ro and loot a Hope Stone or Stone of Hope (something like that) and turn that in with all 3 advanced manuals.
Sandstorm gem drop

Sandstorm Gem drops off Jords in Bastion of Thunder, in the first level. Jords are the "desert" giants in Bastion, one of the factions there just like in Storms. Another hint, they are brown in color =p

You can find them at the zone in area, just up the stairs and right.

BTW it is no drop, unlike the Drunder drop.

The Sandstorm Gem is pretty easy to get hold of, since the Jord giants are pure melee mobs and don't involve any tricky pulls unlike the 'Fire' and 'Air' giants, and there is often a group killing them near the entrance of the zone.

I was also able to MQ this part last night to complete an Advanced Combat Manual - I gave the Sandstorm gem first, and the Ogre accepted it without any text, but the Monk that turned in the rage-filled gem and the blue diamond with the intermediate book then got the text and the Advanced combat manual. That doesn't mean that there may not be some check to see if the end recipient has BoT access, however, since in this case he did have that flag.

The Advanced Magic Manual is

Secondary Range
AC: 15
WIS: 12 INT 12 HP 35 MANA 35
rec 55
1.0 wt small
all/all

So you can assume the combat one is STR/STA based on the previous books...

rage filled gem... sounds like one of those new imbue (such or such, in this case "rage") spells, now all we have to do is find the class/gemstones required :)

They are found off Giants in the south wing of the Bastion of Thunder. I have not seen a Rage filled gem in any plane as of yet.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 05 2002 at 4:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The earlier quests seem to be the harder ones, but what I want to know is what's the loc of GG and where do the Sandstorm Gem and the Rage filled gem drop? Guessing PoE and ToSR since they correspond with the elements of the gods. Also is the blue diamond a lore gem off something in the PoS? If any level 65 person actually does this quest let me know stats too.
