When you hail the Hermit next to the zone to the Lake of Ill Omen he says he is looking for a great sorcerer. If you say you are a great sorcerer he usually responds something like You have many more deeds to accomplish. However, if your faction, is high amiable he will hand you a flaxen hilt, which has 4 round slots on one end. He tells you to put within what once was there and return it.

    The Requirements

A Flaxen Lock of Hair: Identifies as "Lock of Flaxen Cord." Drops from Chief Rokgus in Droga as one of his more uncommon drops, about 1 in 15.

A Yellow Whip: Identifies as "A Whip of Flaxen Cord." Drops off a wandering named Drolvarg called A Wulfware Lonewolf (he wanders near the Firiona Vie zoneline from the Dreadlands).

Large Tassel Bookmark: Identifies as "Tassel of Flaxen Cord." Results from the Tome Raider Quest.

Combine all of these in the new Flaxen Hilt that the Iksar Hermit is now handing out and you will get the Barbed Scaled Whip. When you hand him the Whip and your Sorcerer's Cap from the previous part of this quest you get the following text:

An Iksar hermit says 'All is not complete. A cap and the rest, which was asked for, is required.'

An Iksar hermit takes the flail and vanishes with a brilliant flash!! Within your hands appears a skullcap. You hear a voice echo through the cave. 'Well done. You are a formidable necromancer. We thank you.'

    ...and you receive:

    Necromancer Skullcap:
    magic lore
    8 ac 3 dex 5 int 15 mana 8 sv magic
    heart flutter (instant) 3 charges
    useable from inventory

Need all dialogues, faction hits, /loc of quest mobs.

The NPC you need is Ixpacan in the Overthere, loc pos 48, neg 1072. He's down in the ravene.

    "Hail, Ixpacan."

"Hmm...is there something I can help you with? I am far too [busy] to listen to your problems though so I take that back."

"Why are you far too busy?"

"It is none of your concern unless you are truely gifted in the dark art of necromancy. If so, you will have some form of proof to showme."

This is where you hand in the Necromancer skullcap to him.

"Oh, I see you are truely gifted in the dark art of necromancy. Well I will explain my dilemma to you now if you [wish to hear]"

    " I wish to hear."

"I have recently found a volume on summoning a great minion from the Great Library of Charasis but I can't find all of the needed items. Being as I am one of the [sages of Cabilis], I request you go and [collect these items] for me."

    "What sages of Cabilis?"

"Ah, they are all but a memory now. We used to be welcome within the city of Cabilis but our quest for greater power led to our exile. No matter now, go retrieve the items and you will be one of the chosen to walk beside greatness."

    "I will collect these items."

"As you should broodling. The the first is a brittle bone, which was once used for reincarnations. The second item is a poisened soul, this is from an iksar that died a cruel and twisted death. The death was so awful, it's spirit still roams around angry. The third you will find in the burning heat. The final item is a gem of reflection. I have yet to find someone that knows how to create one. Even those fools in Cabilis probably wouldn't know. Maybe you can locate that one yourself. Bring all of these items back to me and I shall do the rest."

Ok heres what I have so far, an angered spirit can be found in Emerald Jungle, north side. It drops a poisened soul. Incalescent Rock I found as a ground spawn in Skyfire, near a dragon skeleton on an isle with a lake of lava to the east, and surround on the other sides by rivers of lava. This may be the item in the burning heat. Also, Lativ in Trakanon's Teeth drops Lativ's remains, this may be used for this quest as well. I have yet to find a lead on a gem of reflection though.

i just turned into Ixpacan the rock and the remains he handed them both back saying he has no use for these items so i guess it back to the drawing board for those 2 ( or does he give you a containor that you need to combine stuff in i have not turned in my 8th helm or the 2 confermed items

another possable idea for the bone might be searching out any mobs with reincarnated in there name( or reanimated? on kunark prehaps there a new one or a new drop off them of the bone is seems logical since he is asking for "a brittle bone, which was once used for reincarnations" i am assumeing it will BE DB to a 58th since so far all mobs i had killed for it are DB to 58th and i am guessing it would be undead of somekind to drop it i am starting today to scour kunark zones for that type mob ( prehaps a rare spawn like we needed for 7th and 8th helms?)

    "Hail, Harbringer Glosk"

"Harbringer Glosk Hlts his chanting. 'You dare to interrupt me? You had best have a good reason. I care not for small talk.'"

"What of a gem of reflection?"

"I have not been asked that in ages but I can recall the last person that asked me. If you are in league with that scoundrel Expacan, I will slay you where you stand! Buf if you are not, you will not mind ridding your kin of a [menace] as of late.

    "What menace?"

"It sems as though a rogue maruader in a jungle near here has attacked several of our trade suppliers. If you can bring me back his head I will gladly share the information you have asked for."

Now go to Trakanon's Teeth and search for a rogue maruader near the southwest, a bit north and east of the spectrals and seb ket quest npc. Return the hewad to Glosk and you get a bag.

"You have done well in doing what I have asked. To make a gem of reflection you will need some Mt Death mineral salts, a green goblin skin, spiroc bone dust, essence of the rathe, blue slumber fungus, and a vial of pure essence. Combine all of these in this container and you will have what you seek."

Pure Essence drops from a named Fironia Drixie in Fironia Vie named Marinda Flockwings. The reast I bought in the bazar. Combined gets a gem of reflection.

    I triede to combine
    Gem of Reflection
    Incalescent Rock
    Poisened Soul
    Lativ's Remains

Didn't work. Ther Gem and soul are the only 2 certain items in the quest.

Have to give Kumite credit for finding and posting the pure essence needed in this quest.

I found a loytal follower today in Burning Woods, dropped Symbol of Lativ. After looking this up, there wasn't much info at all displayed about the mob or the drop. Could it possibly be used in the 9th or 10th quest. Another thing, I cast ID on it, it was the same, gave me the idea to ID the 8th skullcap and it cam,e back with necro of the 29th circle. Don't know if any of this has any clues to the last two quests or not.

Sony has no plans to implement the final two. They consider all the remaining iksar quests to be finished as is. When asked specifically about it, they say the cap gotten from the hermit is now the final one.

    # Apr 22 2004 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
    That's really sad.

Considering the almost inherent roleplaying value in being an Iksar and the overall difficulty of all things Kunarkan, it seems an overwhelming waste not to enhance the depth of that rather than to make new expansion packs. I've got every expansion there is and I couldn't be stuffed about the Taelosians. Nice polygons, but otherwise uncompelling. Kunark, now ... I'm hooked.

To go off on a tangent, or a rant, or maybe it's both: Isn't it a shame that, in all likelihood, some suits in some boardroom somewhere have decided it's not good to leave well enough alone as they want *increased* market share and *higher* profits, so that instead of making sure their regular customers stay they hire marketing jerks for brainstorming sessions intended to come up with new drops that will make the next expansion a must-have, while making long time players groan? I mean; wouldn't you think that the revenue comes not from the sale of expansions, but from our monthly payments?
    Another?
    # Jul 26 2003 at 2:50 PM Rating: Decent
I'm guessing there's gonna be another one, because the final quests for Iksars don't have charges. Besides this, of course. But that's what I'm saying.

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 11 2003 at 6:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok can someone answer me one question? Where the hell is the insane finaly skullcap that has some great mana free effect that warrents you spending all this time on this god damn quest? # Apr 11 2003 at 8:53 AM Rating: Decent
They never implemented the 9th and 10th. Smaugg placed a post awhile back stating that it was in VI's 'to do' list that nevedr got done. Its a shame they never completed an expansion that came out over 2 years ago.
I recently completed the 8th cap for personal satisfaction because it was something I always wanted to do. But at the same time I feel angered that after all the time I spent in EJ then running around with the no-rent book hoping I dont go LD, that I cant wear the cap on Ssra raids or such because I already have something better.

    Tomb Raider
    # Mar 26 2003 at 9:41 AM Rating: Decent
I cannot seem to get past this part of the quest and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I have spent over 8 hours camping in EJ and I have seen the Tomb Raider only twice. Is this normal or do I just have really bad luck?. Also both times I have seen him it has been between the staircase and the ruins north west of there. Other posts I have read said that he walks along the edge of the cliff, but both times I have seen him he is walking along the zone wall. When I hunt here I try to kill everything north of the stairs, but there are so many mobs I can't kill fast enough to clear them all, and if only a certain area needs to be cleared it would make this much faster.
Does anyone have more detailed info on this guy?

Hunted this guy some more today, and saw him a few more times. From what I have seen he doesn't just spawn near the cliff and walk in any particular direction. I have seen him spawn in different places and walk in different directions each time. So he must just spawn anywhere at random and rarely. I guess the best thing to do is just kill everything you see and try to clear as much as you can. Hope this helps somebody, that tomb raider is a pain in the butt.

Finally got my 8th Skullcap as well today. :)

I wanted to let you all know that in DL when we were killing Drolvargs we had Wulfware Lonewolf pop just in front us. Run NW from the cave heading to FV, just out on the dirt area between where two dunes make a small little valley... the two iksar statues to the south of you, roughly neg5000, pos1000 is where he popped.

As for Emerald Jungle and An Iksar Tombraider, I didn't see exactly where he popped but he wanders near the cliff edge from pos 3000, pos 3000 down south to the Great Staircase pos 3000, pos 2000 then goes back north, repeating his north south walk.

    Hope that can help someone.

    # Mar 01 2003 at 2:12 AM Rating: Excellent
Quest solved at 2:50pm EST 28 Feb 2003.

    Here are the Details:

    The Requirements

Loch of Flaxen Hair: Drops from Chief Rokgus in Droga, its one of his more uncommon drops, about 1 in 15.

A Whip of Flaxen Cord: Real name yellow whip, drops off a wandering named Drovag called Wulfware Lonewolf (he wanders near Firionia Vie Exit from Dreadlands)

Tassel of Flaxen Cord: Real Name Large Tassel Bookmark - Vanidor was the expert behind this one. Check out his post here:

    http://pub146.ezboard.com/fthesafehousefrm13.showMessage?topicID=5630.topic

Combine all of these in the new Flaxen Hilt that the Iksar Hermit is now handing out and you will get the Barbed Scale Whip . When you hand him the Whip and your Sorcerer's Cap from the previous part of this quest you get the following text:

[Fri Feb 28 14:49:49 2003] an Iksar hermit says 'All is not complete. A cap and the rest, which was asked for, is required.'
[Fri Feb 28 14:49:49 2003] an Iksar hermit takes the flail and vanishes with a brilliant flash!! Within your hands appears a skullcap. You hear a voice echo through the cave. 'Well done. You are a formidable necromancer. We thank you.'
[Fri Feb 28 14:49:49 2003] Your faction standing with Brood Of Kotiz got better.
[Fri Feb 28 14:49:49 2003] Your faction standing with Legion Of Cabilis could not possibly get any better.
[Fri Feb 28 14:49:49 2003] You gain experience!!

and you recieve the Necromancer Cap

    Here are the picture links
    Barbed Scale Whip - http://members.aol.com/Rhinoblast/whip.jpg
    Necromancer Cap - http://members.aol.com/Rhinoblast/cap.jpg

The Hermit at this time has disappeared.

Now I logged as soon as I did this because I was running late for class. I wish I hadn't. For those who do this quest after me, check all the Iksar Necro NPCs in West Cabilis, and check for new ones. As the Hermit says, "All is not complete". There are 2 more caps out there to find. I just wish that part of our quest was not finding where the next step starts. I will be back on Sunday Night, or Monday Night to check.

I want to thank everyone for the help: Especially Luisagos who spent a month just helping me camp leads to this quest; Vanidor who offered the break and a lot of leads on this quest that helped me solve it; Xalmat and the rest of the Warriors of Wrath who managed to become ally with Chardok because of me; Ifrinn, Kelisk, Sedory and their Iksar Historian friend who gave me some ideas for other quests I will be following up on; Zulian for posting the pictures online; and Mr. L for all of his help.

Good luck on anyone who is working on it and happy hunting on the Arch Necro Cap.

    # Feb 28 2003 at 12:32 AM Rating: Decent
    Hiss
I have the 6th rank cap put not the 7th

I talked to hermit got new hilt without finishing 7th quest

    identify spell
    old-- A Flaxen Hilt
    new-- A Flax wrapped Hilt

I could not get anything else out of him other then a socerer cap and I can have both in my inventory.

So the item is new, I will start to play my necromancy again this one could be fun given the 5th with the trip to OT

It is definitly the 8th skullcap!
    # Feb 27 2003 at 11:42 PM Rating: Decent
The reason i say it is definitly the 8th cap is because, when i logged on after ykesha went live and read the message that the hermit quest is fixed i dicided to go to the hermit and see if anything had changed in his wording, or if there was now a way to prompt some more info. Before the patch when i got the hilt it would not open as a container, now it does. But he still says the same thing and i cant get anymore info from him. The line that hs says, 'with it shall be your sorcerers skullcap', does not mean you will get your sorcerers cap, but that you need to hand it in with the combined hilt. I thought it meant that you would get the sorcerers cap so i handed him mine htinking he would just give it back to me, having no need for it. I was WRONG. He kept it and said something like you have not given all i needed. Well needless to say I was pissed. So i started the whole series agian and have just got my socerers cap back.
Come on all you iksar necro's, lets get this quest worked out, im going to go to droga and see if i can have any luck with the sticher and the pony hair stuff.
But dont do what I did and hand him your cap unless you got the hilt combined, a bummer for me, but also a learning curve, there must be an 8th cap. Hopefully there was a drop in game that was never droping and thats what they also fixed and this quest can be completed.
I look forward to any new info on this old yet still unsolved quest!

    Large Tassel Book Mark
    ID: 12889
True Name: A Tassel of Flaxen Cord

    A Yellow Whip
    ID: 12890
True Name: A Whip of Flaxen Cord

The database moves from there onto stuff for other quests. It would appear that there is an item that we need to find and identify.

Most quests seem to be about 2 hard items and 2 easier ones. Maybe the whip, the bookmark are the two hard parts and the other two are easier. Flax is a fiber of some plant of some sort? To be flaxen is made of that and yellowish according to a dictionary... so maybe next it is time to start foraging in plantish areas like trak or ej. Perhaps something flaxish will be foraged.

Well scrap this idea it may be on to something but I doubt it now. I am working with smaaug and will test what he wants me to. You know we can cast ident on various things for the word flax and all but it baffles me. So far all we see is a whip and a bookmark. Why would I stick a bookmark in a hilt? Maybe you give it to someone who gives you a gem or another whip or something?

There has to be someone who says something or a book that says something. The one about the wizard or necro who likes wizardry I don't think applies to the hermit. If you do please connect the dots.

The Large Tassel Bookmark is a kind of cord of flaxen material. Imagine a piece of string a couple feet or so long, that's what this should look like, that's what a tassel bookmark is (had shorter ones for pocket books as a kid). A couple feet because books in medieval/fantasy settings are usually depicted as 1-2 feet big unlike modern books. It would seem to be much shorter though than the kind of length a whip would have(10-20 feet), which puzzles me.
