You can only do this quest with a single group. Completing this quest (or any of the other trials) will give you access to the Plane of Storms and the Plane of Valor

Talk to Mavuin in the basement cellblock. Hail him and follow the dialogue. He will ask you to plead his case before the Tribunal, aggreeing will grant you a character flag.

Head to the area with The Tribunal, and ask them about Mavuin. Following the dialog, saying "I am prepared" to each Tribunal will give you description of the six trials.

You say, 'Hail, The Tribunal'

The Tribunal fixes you with a dark, piercing gaze. 'What do you want, mortal?'

You say, 'I am prepared.'

The Tribunal nods slightly. 'Very well. When you are ready, you may begin the trial of execution. The victim will perish should the hooded executioner reach him. Its life will end only when all of the nemeses which accompany it also perish. We shall judge the mark of your success.'

When you are ready:

You say, 'I am ready to begin the trial of execution.'

The Tribunal says 'Then begin.'

Your group will be teleported to the event area where you will only get a few seconds before things start.

This trial goes in four waves. When you start the trial, an executioner will spawn at the far end of the room. Your job is to protect the prisoners from being executed. Four waves of Mobs will spawn. Kill them as fast as you can because the Executioner moves toward the prisoners as you attempt to kill the mobs and if you are not fast enough he will kill the prisoner and your trial will have failed. Each wave goes faster than the one before it, so try to conserve mana on the early ones so that you can do some serious nuking by the last one.

After you have killed off the fourth wave, you need to then kill the executioner. Killing him wins the trial and wins you the Mark of Execution.

Now go talk to the Tribunal.

You say, 'What evidence of Mavuin?'

You have received a character flag!

The Tribunal tells you, 'You have completed a trial - impressive for mortals. You can tell Mavuin that we will hear his plea. We will seek him out as time befits us.'

Head back down and hail him.

Mavuin tells you, 'So you have pleaded my case to the Tribunal, I am most thankful. I hope that they will listen to my case soon and release me. The knowledge that I promised you is this. The followers in the Plane of Tranquility are trying to find information on what has happened to Zebuxoruk. What I know is that he has been captured for a second time. If you want to find out more information I believe you should seek an audience with Karana and Mithaniel Marr. I can only assume that they were present at the time of his capture and know why this has taken place. Also seek from Marr a way to translate the divine language. Only with it can you understand the writing of the gods. There is no more that I can tell you, but thank you once again for your attempt in returning my freedom.'

You have received a character flag!

You are now flagged to be able to enter the Plane of Storms and Plane of Valor.

This trial is popular, and may have a wait time associated with it, as it is the easiest of the trials, and it can only be run once every 30 minutes per server on success. On failure, it can be re-run as soon as all the players from the failed trial clear out of the room.

Need missing dialogues, /loc of quest mobs.

Just tried this today and it is still bugged. Event starts and the executioner just walks straight up and chops head off of the prisoner with no waiting at all. Had first mob to half health only and event was failed.

How is it five year old content doesnt work perfectly sony? I know it is a stupid quest and not even needed anymore but this is very discouraging and make me wonder if i want to waste my time on a game that has bugs on content that should be flawless by now. I can only imagine what current content is like.

Seems to be bugged lately?

[All goes fine (Mauvin, I am prepared, I am ready...and it starts the event) but it won't teleport solo to the event site, or if with another transports who says the phrase, but leaves the other standing there.]

(Or is it bugged the other way? In that you have to have a min of 3 in the group for everyone to get transported in, even tho, it is possible to get transported in solo with two in the group.)

2. The max hit to someone with no shielding/mitiation from the waves will be roughly 250.
3. The max hit to someone with no shielding/mitiation from Prime Executioner Vathoch will be roughly 700.
4. Prime Executioner Vathoch casts Armor Break, which is an unresistable AE that drops AC by 270.
5. You lose if Prime Executioner Vathoch walks to the prisoner.
6. Prime Executioner Vathoch begins his walk from the start after each kill (so put all DPS on one at a time!).

I went to PoStorms and boted one of the signet named to 75% 1st attenpt. I couldn't keep the storm adds off my cleric. I think it's doable.

ok i just did this and i wanted to make it clearer for those who go after me.
1) you need to hail mavuin 3 x's to complete
- fight way back to him (clearly marked on mapfiend downloaded maps)
- hail him and he asks you to plead his case
2) go to plane of trials (still in same zone and also clearly marked)
3) anyone in group can say it
- hail
- i am prepared
- i am ready to begin trial of ..............
>> the other posts will tell you how to fight refer to them <<
4) loot mark
5) upon sucessful comepletion [return] to plane of trials and hail tribunal (any of them) and say what evidence of mavuin {make sure you spell his name correctly -- i wasted 10 mins trying to figure out why i got no response}
6) head back to mavuin (yes fighting again)
7) hail im and he says something like i need you to plead my case ............ and you get a flag (which is not the final part)
8) head back to trials and say i will plead mavuin's case (again check spelling if no response)
9) fight back to mavuin again and hail him (he will then say something about mith. marr)
10) head to dorf in ber trainer building behind a closed door and say tell me stories (you will then receive free AA) -- although if you have done this in the late 50's you will know that it is far from free.

This may be one way to do it, but not the shortest by far. We have done this so many times.. Using Trial of Execution as the example...

1) Fight to basement - Hail Mavuin /say What information? -- receive character flag

2) Head to trial area, target each tribunal and /say I am prepared (this is just to find the one you want) Gather group at the foot of the Tribunal you want to do and /say I am prepared to begin the Trial of Execution (group gets ported in)

3) After successful trial target any tribunal guy /say What evidence of Mavuin? (poster is correct on making sure you have the spelling right.. we waste so much time with people spelling it Mauvin)-- receive character flag

4) Head back to Basement and Hail Mavuin.. his text will read at the end, something about him thanking you for returning his freedom -- receieve character flag

5) Head to PoK dwarf as noted and /say I will tell you stories (or I have stories or whatever your favorite variation of that is) -- receieve free AA and all done.

I managed to pass this on the 3rd try tonight while 6 boxing. Not all that tough anymore.
Used the following (all are pre-elemental with some OOW):
70 war (friend's)
70 clr
68 ench
66 rog (friend's)
66 dru
65 bard
Did not slow a single mob the entire time. All the enchanter did was throw a nuke once on each mob and mezzed maybe twice at most the entire trial.
The hard thing about boxing of course is moving all of them about if needed. So try to minimize your possible movement. Put the casters and the bard in the back left corner by the stage on their mounts (all the bard did the entire trial was play mana song). Have the tank in front of them to grab quick proximity agro and the rogue hidden behind where the tank will be fighting the mobs.
The cleric cast his elixir type spells to reduce agro (one of my losses was because I cast a pious light on the rogue and pulled most of the mobs off the warrior- reducing DPS of course). Other then that the cleric did nothing. Rogue used BS about 50% of the time since I was busy doing stuff with the other characters. Used the druid for nuking only (I tried banishment the frist round and it worked- right before the druid went LD causing me to lose the trial). Banishment would have been more useful had I had a bunch of the rock mobs but I only got 2-3 at most the entire time (the only other time I used it I got a resist). So I just stuck with what was working instead.
Keep it simple if you are planning on boxing and expect a few failures. Got the cleric, druid, and bard flagged for this at least.
Good luck out there.

Because it caught us off gaurd, and I dont see it mentioned...

The Executioner moves QUICK. You need to kill 1 mob every 10 seconds or so, or you may very well fail. When he talks to the prisoner, you have maybe 5 seconds before he kills him and you fail.

If you dont have massive AoE going off, you better all be piling on the same mob. Every time you kill a mob, the Executioner gets reset.

There was about 1 minute downtime between waves. At the end of wave 4, you have no downtime...attack the Executioner and hope you kill him. Granted, uber geared types probably see him as a joke...but if you are just starting your Planar quests, chances are you aint Uber. ;P

My group tonight had two Time\GoD\OoW geared people helping us, and we still managed to fail once (though I suspect it was because no one was assisting on the last wave)

Ah well, several attempts, and managed to get all 6 of us flagged, so its all good.

We will doubtless get a lot better at it, as now the whole guild wants the flag, heh.

You don't have to kill the mobs before the executioner gets to the stage. After he gets there he goes through some emotes before your timer runs out. You have about a minute per mob, which is cake with the level increases and OoW droppable equipment.

Just did it with Pally (me), cleric, chanter, bard, wizzy, mage. Cleric didn't heal once until the named at the end, and none of us had any EP gear.

Also you should if you can get a mage, cauz one their dd and two the ds helps a bit on time and keeping aggro to MT

All the casters went to the Right hand corner behind the platform where prisoner is, BST stayed in front of them to be able to get into the mix fast after assisting tank

sure it would be nice to have Mage/Dru to Banish, but deifinitely not necessary. We were lucky and only had 1 wave that had 2 stoneys (unmezzable) but they should be easily rooted by someone to CC them.

For Mages/Druid who have the spell Banishment (the one that instantly destroys a summoned mob, but costs a star ruby), it can be a life saver. Keep it in reserve until you are about to fail (The executioner is on the platform, has been there for a sec or so, and the next lowest mob will not die in time), and use it as a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card. It has a rather long recast time, so its best saved for when its needed.

Its not listed and nobody posted what is the complete quest here. So far I know that:
1. Hail Mavuin and complete his dialog to get flagged for a trial.
2. Complete any 1 trial and loot a mark off the boss mob
3. Hail any member of the Tribunal and say "What evidence of Mavuin?"
4. Hail Mavuin again and complete the dialog
** 5. Head back up to any Tribunal and say__________
** 6. Head back to Mavuin and say_________
You receive character flags for all those steps but I dont know what you say for 5 and 6. Plus are they necessary or not?

You can get an AA point after the first time you complete any of the PoJ trials (and get the accompanying planar flag). Go to PoK and find the dwarf in the building southwest of the PoTranq stone. Talk to him about stories... he will give you an (upgraded) charm and an aa point for each new planar flag you receive.

You can similarly get AA points and charm upgrades for doing the PoD and PoN flag quests on tier 1 and the subsequent quests/trials on the higher tiers. There are a total of ten flags that can be acquired in this manner.

When I accepted the trial, only 3 of our group members were ported in. All were clustered together around me. Naturally, the tank, nooker, and off-tank were excluded. The cleric and shammy didn't last too long....very bad. Petition pending...

I said sure, being a 65 ranger with 90aa and good gear, I wasn't too worried. The group was me as tank, 65 rogue cleric mage necro and enchanter. The 4 waves were easy, and the Executioner wasn't any tougher than any LDoN named that I have faced. We looted our marks, then tried to find Mavuin. Where is he, how do you get to him. I can not find a post that says how to get to him, just he is in the basement somewhere. Any help on this?

Since many combinations of classes work well on this event, everyone has listed their favourite group for the Execution trial. I thought I would jot down the group we used to push guildies through this event...

65 SK as MT
65 Cleric
65 Wiz
65 Mage

The last 2 spots in the group are for the 2 peeps you are flagging. It is assumed that you have done the standard buffs and such before you begin. If you are only flagging one person, then I recommend an Enchanter be added to the above list in the fifth slot.

We do not use AE's for this, and I know a lot of you like doing it that way, but its a great way to get your casters nailed. Instead, we let the SK grab aggro, and the Cleric pretty much just kept casting fast heals and heals over time on him to keep healer aggro to a minimum.

Mage used a fire pet, but any works fine. All casters sat on horses to both minimise aggro, and maximise mana regen. Only big fat single-target DD nukes were used against the target the SK was working on. Use ASSIST here, as always. The mobs will drop one after another and quite rapidly, there is no need to use AE's and the extra aggro they can cause. The wizard (me) nuked with Agnarr's, Lures and Drafts; I am not sure what the Mage used but again, pick relatively fast casting nukes, mages. And everyone have that mod rod handy. Summoned damage gear is also nice if you do not already have similar effects on your own gear.

The SK should be saving a big fat HT for the Executioner at the end. By then, the casters will be just about OOM, so that will definitely be a great help at the finish. If you are pushing guildies thru, you will have to rotate SK's each new time you start another trial (assuming you have enough SK's of course).

The 2 players who are being flagged should keep their attacks to a minimum. Do not grab aggro, and get killed. Do not cast any DoT's, do not cast any AE's... if you have pets, those are fine, just make sure they only attack the mob the MT is dealing with. Chanters could AE stun I suppose, but again, that is asking for it. The 4 classes I listed here are more than adequate to annihilate every wave of beasties in this event. But by all means, assist the SK.

Obviously, this becomes a mana pool contest. Its not just an issue for the Cleric, its also an issue for the nukers. Mod rods and twitching and such can go a long way here.

Done this way, the event is a lot less hectic, and you should pass it with relative ease.

ok, just completed trial of execution and then the server was brought down for more maintence... came here to find out what i need to do to get my flag, and after reading the posts found no mention of any bards!!!

65 bard ( me ), 65 sk, 65 rog, 65 wiz, 62 mage, and 59 cleric tried 3 times. the first attempt failed, due to the casters taking aggro and run'n around. this made it hard for my AoE to hit and for the tank to grab the next mob. on the second attempt the group asked me to mez, which resulted in a miserable failure.

the 3rd attempt i convinced the group to "hug" the tank... this allowed my DS, AoE slow / dot, and AoE dot / MR debuff to hit all the mobs while our casters unloaded. the sk could quickly target the next mob and we had no probs ( wiz died though ). this resulted in our cleric having only 10% manna when the Prime Executioner poped, but w/ a rod and manna song he kept the tank alive long enough.

Anyone know how I could get flagged now or do I have to redo the whole thing? I have the mark of exeuction if that is needed dont see it talked about here thoght it was for 7th hammer event. Anyhow any help be much appreciated cause quiet frustrated that cant get the NPCs to do conversation.

And Yes I did the mauvin text with the tribunal for execution, though I did try talking to every single one as well.

ok last night our guild did a whole back flagging even...first of all it was a blast. no to the point.

we went in to do the trial of exectution. i believe everyone who went last night got flagged. we had about 20 ppl in guild go, all of whom where 55+. first 2 groups fail, then the 3rd passed(i was in group 4). when a group passes trials they have to wait 1/2 and hour, so since group 3 passed we decided to do trial of hanging...only prob with that is that noone has really done that trial from our guild..so no one knew exatially what to expect or do...mobs werent that hard, bout the same difficutlty as exectuion, i our cleric tells that they dispell she only came out with HoV. now to the real trial.

after we failed the hanging trial, medded up and got rebuffed again we headed to the trial of exectution. our group makeup was as follows....our main tank was a 65 pally, then we had a 63 rouge, 61 cleric 65 chanter, 60 shammy, and me a 55 wizzy. our group was by no means ubber...hell i was 55. during the entire battle we didnt loose ne one...and noones hps went below 40%, and our clerics mana was never below 30%...so thats not bad. me on the other hand(55 wizzy) was oom by end of 2nd wave, no big deal cuz i had harvest and a mod rod =). i mainly used draughts...only had a few resists. 1/2 way through the 3rd wave i was fighting completly oom...i would get 1 draught in to help finish mob, then med. between waves there is about 10 secs or so...may not seem like much but it helps a TON. i went from 0m to 30m, by only medding, in that short time. so by time exectutionar rolled around i had ok mana. pally kited the executionar for a few secs...they shammy pet was sent in to give us a chance to med.
we were all set and killed the exectutionar with little difficulty, my draughts only did bout 4-5% dmg each time, with mage damage bracelet on.

all in all i didnt think that fight was all that difficult..but we have a great pally tank, and very good supporting cast, what seems to be the constant is obviously a wizzy or mage, but a rogue as well makes a big differene in a group that fails and a group that passes....just my 2 cp..i hope this helps

I completed this trial a few days ago but none of the rewards listed dropped/were given to me or any party members(that I know of). Does the group leader, or the person that started the quest, recieve one of the rewards or something? If so, than I along with four others got robbed of a chance for an item; the shoulders would have been nice for a beastlord like myself. Bottom line, make sure you get to roll on the reward from this quest as very likely it will be in a pick up group like I had and there are many dishonest people out there who would love to take advantage of you.

The Mark of Execution is dropped by the boss every time. There are usually 6 marks dropped (or possibly only one for each member of the party).

The rest of the items are random drops off named mobs that may or may not spawn during a given trial. Try the trial a few more times, kill a named or two, and you'll likely see one of these items.

1. To start the Trials, does the whole group have to go to the cell block in the basement and Hail Mauvin?
2. If yes, do we need to fight our way down to where he is located?
3. After sucessfully completing one of the trials, and we have to Hail Mauvin to get flagged, again do we all have to Hail Mauvin, and do we again have to fight our way down to him?

Thanks,

Score: Excellent
We've been pushing our guildmates through trials heavily recently, as a large open raiding movement has started to raid as far as elementals. (Personally, I doubt their odds of making it that far but flags as far as they DO get can't hurt) In any case, our standard crew pushed 5 more guildies through ToE without failure.

Our Standard Crew:
65 Warrior
65 Cleric
65 Mage
65 Druid
65 Ench
<Random Guildmate 46-65>

We are not über. The druid has 3-4 pieces or ornate and I (Enchanter) have the helm. The druid has the most AAs (90ish). The cleric, druid and myself have epics (although none of them are of much help for this challenge). The warrior is in RZ cultural and holds agro reasonably with a 50-100pp Greatstaff of Thunder. This combo of classes works VERY nicely but on the whole I recommend 2 major healers (cleric/druid), 2 banishers (60+ druid/mage), 1 tank, 1 mezzer and at least 1 source of off-tanking. (hybrid, monk/rogue, mag/nec/bst pet, insane/twinked caster, etc...) Anything less will require better gear or different tactics.

By Kneesmasher (to avoid unneeded typing)
Quote:
All the waves are the same. There are 4 mobs per wave and you have 30 seconds to kill each mob before the Executioner cuts of the prisoner's head. Killing a mob resets the executioner where you have another 30 seconds. If you fail to kill a mob in 30 seconds, the prisoner gets his head cut off. There are 4 waves of 4 mobs each. Each wave has 4, unless you got a bugged version for some reason.

On Mez, Slow and AE
Some guides say not to use mez and/or to stick with the Color (PBAE Stun) line. I tend to disagree, but if it works for you then you proably don't need this guide. First, let's talk about why others suggest those things. They say don't mez/slow because they want mobs to be damaged by the DS and they suggest AE'ing for the same reason. Why? Because it makes the 2nd/3rd/4th mobs easier. IMHO, the 1st mob is where you win or lose a trial. After that everything is locked down / banished, so why make the easier mobs even easier? It's wastefully redundant. Should you mez? Definately; you save tons of healing mana. Should you slow? Probably not except for the boss or named (if needed); mobs mitigate slow enough and die fast enough that nuking (if you have insanity) will probably save more damage than slowing (yes, that sounds crazy but it's true).

On Mobs
Dark (Rock-type): Summoned, nonmezzable likes to tash/slow tanks. Banish them and have poison/disease cures ready.
Fierce (Phlarg-type): Mezzable but no banishing them
Named (either): Not fun. Just by taking longer, a named can sometimes wreck a perfectly run trial (combined with being shortended on gear, bad timed fizzles / resists, etc...) Dark Named drops Pauldrons of Witness, Fierce Named drops Silver Hammer Earring.

On Wave Strategies
Note: The following assumes you have the abilities (bolded) above. Adjust tactics accordingly.
4 Fierce: Tank and Off-Tank 2 to help buy time to get everything locked down. Not hard but mana-draining as there are no easy banishes.
3 Fierce, 1 Dark: Banish the dark mez the extra fierces. Relatively easy; off-tank if needed.
2 Fierce, 2 Dark: Banish the 2 dark and mez 1 fierce. Probably the easiest wave.
1 Fierce, 3 Dark: Banish as much as possible (see On Banishment). Mildly annoying.
4 Dark: See above. Extra off-tanking helps here. Be prepared to burn extra mana nuking.
Named: Keeping in mind how the first mob can be the hardest, take the name first only if you can mez/banish everything else quickly, otherwise take it second. Discuss this one with your group beforehand and have a battleplan.

On Banishment
Quote:
Description:
1: Destroy Target

Details: Raw spell data
Spell Type: Detrimental Skill: Evocation
Mana: 500 Target Type: Summoned
Casting Time: 4.00 Duration: Instant
Recast Time: 120 Resist: Magic (0)
Fizzle Time: 3.50 Range to target: 200
AE Radius: 0 Interruptable: Yes
Location: Any Time of Day: Any
Reflectable: Yes

Note the recast time. Banish can be resisted; sometimes you can't banish everything. This is where off-tanking is important.

Prime Executioner Vathoch
Let Armor Break draw the pets in and use any special, short refresh AAs you have (extra pets, skin like wood, paragon, etc...) At Max, mob should be slow before 90% health (sooner if reasonable even if you end up taking a couple rounds but don't get self killed). Ironically, while the boss himself isn't that rough what can happens is very annoying.

1) Trials drain out your mana and you lack healing/damage.
2) Boss gets "lucky" killing someone. (Usually MT) Though you still might win, that person will not get flagged.

Some guides advocate kiting the boss another for medding purposes. Honestly, I think it's a waste. There's no wait time for a failed trial so if you ran out it's probably better (from a learning standpoint) to lose med/rebuff, go back in and redo the waves more efficiently.

As the 65 druid Eald speaks of let me say first off he did a great job on the post about how we have done it.

from a druid point of view

Spells i use
Banishment
Distroy summoned
Blessings of Replenishment
Nature's infusion
Shield of Bracken
Summer's flame
root i sugest the 55 one i seem to get it to last longer then the PoP ones
hand of ro

Banishment takes a star rubie and between me and mage we go througha bout 5 to 8 per trial. resists about 20% of the time. if it fizzles give up and wait to try next round with the spell.

you should only have to cast regen once right before you go in and it should be up when your done.

use banishment on summoned if that doesnt work switch to distroy summoned its quick low mana and does at least 1200DD and they cannot resist it. using banishment is also a good way to know when the next wave is coming. if you cast it as soon as they wave pops you got about 10 to 20secs after it is rest before the next wave hits.

Hand of ro is olny to be used on the boss mob at the end you dont have the time or mana to debuff during the waves so dont bother.

keep a heal up cuz sometimes the cleric needs a heal and your going to have to keep them alive if need be. dont use it unless you have to you need the mana for nukes.

gear and stat info
i have 333 wis (with c3) with a cap of 235. i have the IDIV belt from LDON and at the time of our last trials yes around 100AAs. i also have the ornate boots with MPIV so if you dont have both, get a mage to summon you an earring and bracer to make up for it.

AAs used
i use Wrath of the wild3 on the MA beofre we go in and between waves cuz as eald said the first mob is the worst. it a nice 650 one shot DS to help with dmg and agro.

when the boss mob hits about 80% i use Spirit of the Wood3 to help with hp regen(1250), AC(48), and DS(55), this AA last 30secs only. seems to really help keep the MA alive for th fight and to heal those that get hit during the fight.

one other good thing to note is always assit your tank so you dont break a mez and ruin the trial. as soon as you see the mobs has been awaken NUKE hell dont even wait that long. your going to get agro not much you can do about that if wait till the tank has the agro your going to lose there is no time but make sure they break the mez and not you.

its gets easier the more you do it. we have passed 11 times in 2 days of doing it. i think something that eald did leave out is this..we have a 65 Shm that comes with us to buff us up so between cleirc, druid, shm, etc we are sually good on hps/ac.

also mod rods are a key if you use one right after the first wave you can then use it again just as the boss mob pops. which your going to need it for boss mob cuz i have never went into doing him with more then 20m.

hope this helps out. trials can be really fun once you get them down cold. and before they nerfed it, it was some killer AA exp :(

After failing four times, all with groups w/ high DPS, etc, that were kinda "ideal" for this according to guides, etc that I read...

Finally got flagged last night with a group that I really did not think we had a chance going in. Here was the breakdown:

65 Druid
65 Druid
63 Necro
64 SK
64 Warrior
62 Chanter

One druid (myself) concentrated on healing and nuking - the other druid was ready w/ Banishment, primary nuker and healed me when I drew aggro from heals

Went great and we got flagged...just going to show that you never know exactly what makeup will be successful, the skill of the individual players has alot more to do with it.
