Nitram Anizok may be found at +1500, +970 along the right path from zone-in. If he isn't up, clear out the mobs around the hut to spawn him.

You say, 'Hail, Nitram Anizok'

Nitram Anizok says 'Oh my hello! It has been such a long time since I have had visitors. Have you come to learn of [advanced tinkering] as well?'

You say, 'What advanced tinkering?'

Nitram Anizok says 'Aye, I advanced to this plane due to my work on tinkering back in Ak`Anon. A grand city it is, but my abilities were compromised with the materials I had to work with there. My body and soul has come to rest here, forever coming up with new ideas. You should be aware though that this plane is not how it was when I arrived. Much [construction] has taken place.'

You say, 'What construction?'

Nitram Anizok says 'When I first arrived I started creating smaller things. As time went on my inventions became more and more focused and impressive. I started building steam powered clockwork to help me gather materials. I had gone too far giving them the ability to learn and with a built in desire of self perpetuation. They began to integrate themselves with the clockwork that already existed within the factory that you can see if you step outside. I once worked within the factory with a kind and fair gnome, Meldrath. Now that he has gone missing the clockworks seem to be working towards a more devious goal. The clockwork out here in the junkyard have been discarded due to their malfunction or replacement by a more efficient series. Needless to say their [instinct for survival] has not been lost.'

You say, 'What instinct for survival?'

Nitram Anizok says 'The clockwork have become increasingly aggressive because of their desperation for spare parts. I have to defend myself anytime I head out to find parts for my tinkering. I fear for my safety with what is being built in the factory. I have started to build myself my own means of defense. It is nearly completed but I need an odd combination of batteries to start it up. I should have planned more carefully for it to use simple mana batteries..'

You say, 'What combination of batteries?'

Nitram Anizok says 'Well you see when I was back home it was common for me to use a mycological spore extricate-kinetoconvertor to power my devices. I started planning my defense to use this as a power source out of sheer habit. Here in this desolation the mushrooms that were grown back home do not exist. I am going to have to rig something from spare parts. It is taking a long time with my having to search the junkyard small portions at a time due to the clockworks. Would you help me in [collecting materials]?'

You say, 'Collecting materials?'

Nitram Anizok peers over some schematics laying on a table next to him. 'Let us see here. I have some of the base parts for the power source. If you could collect a copper node, a bundle of super conductive wires, and an intact power cell I could power up the machine. Good luck to you ______, I hope that we can work together on this.'

Turn in the items (all random drops in the zone).

Nitram Anizok says 'Excellent! This is wonderful, please follow me! I will show you the power of my greatest invention.'

Nitram will walk a lengthy path to Xanamech Nexmirthafen, a clockwork dragon. You have to keep him alive along the way. When he gets to the dragon's clearing, he finishes the "power source" and the dragon spawns. Kill it for some loot, then hail Nitram for the character flag which allows you to open the factory door in the Plane of Innovation. (looks like this:)

You say, 'Hail, Nitram Anizok'

Nitram Anizok tells you, 'Whew that was a close one! I shall have to study these schematics and see where I went wrong. Maybe if I build a new one that uses the correct kind of power source it would work better! Anyhow, why don't you stop these beasts at the source? If you go up to the main factory door and twist the very bottom rivet of the icon three times to the right, it will open. I doubt they have changed how this works. Good luck!'

You have received a character flag!

You remember Nitram's words - 'three small turns to the right on the bottommost rivet should open the door'.

Be behind the dragon!
# Jan 01 2024 at 6:37 AM Rating: Decent
The write up should have the most important information so as to avoid the issue Llyrin had. Be behind Xanamech so that when Nitram activates Xanamech he isn't in your way getting accidentally targeted and killed. Xanamech will about face and the AE's that are used will hit you and not the gnome. Just did this last night and a few weeks back and it still works fine. Hopefully this post stays at top at the very least.

Can confirm. Once you're down the last path to the door, open the door and don't wait for Nitram, just head to the far side of the area!

I hope this quest doesn't need a finish, or the finished quest isn't needed for anything. I've run it twice and, each time the clockwork dragon comes to life, Nitram Anizok disappears. I waited to hail him the next time he spawned, but he started over from scratch.

Okay, so I tried a third time, for some reason. I still back a ways and, as soon s Nitram activates his dragon, he keels over. So, I cannot hail him after the fight, and I don't get the flag, which also means I don't get into the factory. So, how am I supposed to get in? Has it been changed to needing the Quintessence of Elements to gain access to the factory?

lotsa old post, what about 06? a pimpish rogue and druid, and descent pally, cleric, shaman, necro killed thid dragon. was a bit of a fight and relied heavily on the druid/rogue who rank 6th on server. but all in all, the pally druid rogue and shaman/cleric/necro triple box were only 1 group.

we killed the dragon with no flags, did not know about keeping the lil guy alive on this final fight. after the failure i spent 15 minutes reading all these outdated post and found this little trinket. [Remember to turn the dragon so the Gnome doesn't get eaten by the big AoE (which is frontal only) or ripostes.

Yeah, it was some zerg tactics all right. Dropped like a stone, except Nitram was still mezzed at the dragon's death, so no flags (yet), but we're petitioning to get them :)

I would hope so. For Xanamech, 42 is a Zergforce. Hes doable with 4 groups of pre-VT geared people.

heh, i did him with 3 groups of velius geared people. i tanked him with around 7k raid buffed (mebbe 5k unbuffed?) and got the kill shot as a warrior. Xana is easy, just need to have good healage.

The goal of this "quest" is pretty much to kill Xanamech so you can get the loot from it, so yeah, you have to kill the dragon to get the rewards.

Multiple persons can turn in different items to trigger the quest, yes.

Does this flag count as one that will upgrade your charm and give you a free AA or is it just to get you into the factory and nothing else?

It is a "b" flag and therein does not improve upon your Charm.

99.9% sure the limit is 72, becuase that is the max allowed in a raid (raid has max 12 groups, of each, 12 x 6 = 72). Only if you are actually in the raid that kills the dragon can you hail Nitram for the flag.

The Factory flag. It means you can open the door to the big factory in the middle of the zone. In there you have to kill the Manaetic Behemoth to get flagged for Plane of Tactics.
Flag problem
# May 29 2003 at 8:48 AM Rating: Decent
We've done this twice, killing Xanamech both times but no flag. First time gnome didn't have aggro on dragon so we made sure he did on second time. Still no flag. GM replied to me and said to ensure that gnome doesn't aggro along the way. We were clearing far in advance but I wonder if he did aggro on a pop somewhere for a short time.
They are mezzing the gnome occasionally.

Anyone know what we are doing wrong?
RE: Flag problem
# Mar 08 2004 at 8:11 AM Rating: Decent
Same experience: We killed Xanamech, the gnome stayed perfectly alive, but kept his mouth shut after the fight. No answer when hailed. :( Then to our surprise the Junk Beast came along and blinded and killed every single one who hadn't left. So remember to keep your eyes open and leave quickly...
RE: Flag problem

You DO know that the Gnome has to Survive and you have to Hail him after the fight to get the Flag don't you?

OK, we just killed the dragon and took the gnome along for the ride. The gnome never died and yet we were unable to get a response from him when hailed after xanamech died. i believe he aggro'd a couple PC's along the wat but not sure if that had anything to do with it.
Oh Well,...guess I'll have to try again some time

The gnome needs to path on his own, and may need to open the dragon's door under his own power. Once you reach the dragon's lair, and if you are controlling the gnome thru agro/mem-blur -- get everyone stationed inside the dragon's lair, release the gnome just before the big door, and let the gnome open the door and walk in as if he was leading the way.

Perhaps this will allow the flagging to work correctly after the dragon is dead.
RE: Flag problem
# Jun 11 2003 at 9:35 PM Rating: Good
strange. We do this alot and have even mezed the gnome during the fight and had it work(he likes to beat on our clerics for some reason). Only thing I can think of is that you need to make sure the gnome is not agro *after* the fight. use /assist <gnome> and keep mem blurring him or camping people till he has no target.

good luck.
loc of dragon?
# Apr 23 2003 at 1:58 PM Rating: Decent
Where exactly is the room he (the gnome) takes you to? anyone know of any maps online that I can check out?
RE: loc of dragon?
# Jul 24 2003 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
If you go to the room where the gnome is, the room is to the east. Face east then go straight the whole way NOT stepping inside any doors. There is one big open room you come to, and there are two paths and a door that lead out. Take the path that is to the right. You'll eventually run into a door that is the dragon's door. Pretty straightforward path to the dragon from the gnome.
Don't MEZ gnome during fight..
# Apr 18 2003 at 12:59 AM Rating: Decent
During the fight some of our team agroed the little dude. I was actually summoned by him as I was casting rune of Zeb on our tank - after a boggle, he started beating on one of our clerics. I decided to mez him ( since I saw others mezzing him leading up to the fight ). Well.. he never woke up. I never got the mez wore off message. He would not respond to hails. We tried attacking, bluring, training him around.. nothing worked. Just a warning - have blur ready if this guy agros someone during last fight. Root wont work b/c he can & will summon.
RE: Don't MEZ gnome during fight..
# Jul 29 2003 at 11:04 AM Rating: Decent
Better idea- every exercise enough discipline and caution to not get aggro in the first place :) Proper use of pre-made /target and /assist keys makes this fairly simple to accomplish.
Xanamech Arbituary
# Apr 12 2003 at 10:14 AM Rating: Good
Took him out last night, was a fun raid flagging 62. His poor life expectancy was less than 2 minutes. Curious at the drop rate of the sword from him?

BTW If the dragon gets too far from the gnome, the gnome summons the dragon back to him. If no one re-aquires agro fast, the dragon kills the gnome.

Key to killing him is immediately get agro to the tank, Slow Immediately, stay there at the gnome and fight it out.

On the kills I don't bother to keep shouting orders keeping the dragon turned from the gnome, Just keep them close and agro on the tank, he's a Wuss! Remember the tanks are also snared from his Snare Area effect too and can't move rapidly back to hime. Prefer Pally or SK to walk the gnome in and take initial agro, then warrior MT take agro control only if the warrior has a weapon that keeps him at the top of the agro list. If not, pally can maintain agro much better with taunt, DPS and stuns than a warrior and use the warrior to deliver max DPS from the back side, even thru the enraged period. He can be killed with the right 7 person team or a 60 person team, depends on the stratagy and Good teamwork either way. Just mob him and kill fast vice trying to worry about a gnome! The gnome will still be there if you killed as a team.

my guild on tarew marr took him down a while ago with 30 people dropped 3 of 4 tanks within about 5 secconds before he was slowed after that he was really easy took about 5 mins ish i would say to kill him from engage not all that hard of a mob just need to get him slowed is all and well yea not sure how hard he hits or what not cuz im a cleric and dont get hit but anyways we took him with 30 peopl
When?
# Mar 23 2003 at 2:51 PM Rating: Default
I have all the necessary components to the quest. I just want to know one thing: How many people above 60 would be needed to take down the dragon? And what would have to be the lvl average of the raid to suceed on Xana? I just want to know so I'll know when to hand in all the things.
RE: When?
# Apr 25 2003 at 3:55 PM Rating: Decent
My guild took him down with 15 people (2 warriors 3 Clerics, 1 Chanter, 3 rogues among the mix). We started off with MT getting aggro and the Chanter throwing in a slow...the rest was handling the CH chain for the MT....piece of cake
RE: When?
# Apr 02 2003 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
If you have the right mix, you can do him with 5-6 groups. You have to have (I've found) 6 clerics, and at least 4 other CH classes. A level 65 shaman for smaller raids, and a 65 bard and 65 enchanter is a big plus. Off-tanking adds instead of mezzing is a far better option for the trip there on small raids. Your dps will have to be fairly decent to make it happen.

Our last raid, we only had 32 for the final battle, one person died, and we didn't even get the dragon slowed until he was at 50% when Earthcall from one of the rangers took hold.

Remember to turn the dragon so the Gnome doesn't get eaten by the big AoE (which is frontal only) or ripostes.
RE: When?

We killed Xana with 50 guys raid, many of us died but was easy to kill. Drooped phat lewt for casters. Then we went to kill behemot for potactics flag, we got 70 guys in this part. The result was a wipe, lol. Never seen so many corpses at GY,:P. The lvl avg all the time was 57-58. Our MTs and MHs were 65. The rest 52+.
