You say, 'Hail, Jimlok Keylifter'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'Well met, traveler. Can I be of assistance to you? Can't say as I got much to do at the moment. I'm just attending to a little fishing while I wait on my friend to get back to me. Hopefully he doesn't keep me waiting for too much longer. I can only stand so much of this place.'

You say, 'What friend?'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'This is the situation. My friend Gilor Swiftfoot and I were going to try our hand at breaking into the Plane of Justice. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you're thinking that's silly and all, but how many people do you know of that can say they've broken out of the Eternal Prison, let alone in? 'None', right? So, we were all ready to go in when I got word that something else needed re-appropriating all quick like. I told Gilor to wait until I got back, but no. He had to run off, eager as always and as patient as a gust of wind. Now, I think he's in trouble.'

You say, 'What trouble?'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'People here seem to think that he tried to make the prison break by himself. They've found another way in, so maybe he took that route. I'd like to check on him, but if he isn't in there, I'm liable to get myself in trouble. I think I'd be much better off staying here and waiting for him. If you want to go look for him, I'd be quite grateful. I doubt you have the skills to get far in there. You don't look like the burglarizing type, but I'd even be willing to give you the document that I picked up on my last job if you look for him.'

You say, 'What document?'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'Don't you worry about that unless you bring me some word of Gilor's condition. Trust me, it's a strange and mysterious document. Just the sort of thing you adventuring types love. Find Gilor and it's all yours, I give you my word.'

You say, 'I will look for him.'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'Alright, friend, you need to be on the lookout for a gnome about my height, with one bad leg. He's got a bit of a limp, but he's still a hard one to chase down. If you can't find him, be on the lookout for anything that resembles a small bottle. He's got a way with rodents; so if you see some little pest carrying a bottle of some sort, grab him! It will most likely be a message for me. Bring it back immediately. It won't be of any use to you anyway, since you can't read our code. Be quick and good luck!'

Kill A Festering Rat in the Plane of Justice to obtain a Tiny Bottle with Note. Give this to Jimlok Keylifter.

Jimlok Keylifter sighs deeply as he hands you an intricate schematic of some device. The notation on the document is written in a strange language that is completely foreign to you. 'This doesn't bode well for Gilor. He says he's found a secret tunnel and he's going to go in deeper. I guess I'll go in and find him if he doesn't return soon. Well, a deal is a deal. Here is the document that I mentioned.'

Jimlok Keylifter says 'The person that I was supposed to lift it for was a jeweler of sorts, but he mainly dealt in mechanical devices. I wasn't able to track him down to get my coin, so I don't know what you'll do with it. Maybe my cousin Tabben will give you something for it. He's got himself a little tinker's shop in the Jeral section of New Tanaan. Show him the map thingy and see what he says.'

You receive a Strange Jeweler's Schematic. Go to Tabben Bromal in the Plane of Knowledge.

You say, 'Hail, Tabben Bromal'

Tabben Bromal says 'What is it? What do you wan. . . Oh bloody underfoot, do forgive me, traveler. I'm not used to all this bickering and flittering about -- you know, the bustle of the 'living' city. The racket, the noise, and the wails of the children. Bah! I came here to escape it, not to relive it. But if I survived it once, I sure as Brell's holy bottom will do it again! In hopes of getting you all out of here as soon as possible and the peace and quiet being resurrected out of your blessed absence, I've agreed to lend some of my knowledge of the more inferior levels of tinkering to those who have an interest in this art. If you don't intend on purchasing any materials, then be off with you and leave me in peace. However, if you have coin in your pocket and you plan on spending, then do so quickly. I have more pressing things to do with my time than wait while you leisurely browse my wares.'

Give him the schematic.

Tabben Bromal takes the document from you and looks at it for a moment. 'Well, this is a beautiful looking schematic. I wonder what they are trying to make with it? Where did you get this? No wait; don't tell me. I'd rather not know. I can make some of this writing out but just barely. What I can read leads me to believe that I'd be better off not knowing.'

Tabben Bromal falls victim to his curiosity and grabs a small kit from the table behind him. 'Take this kit and look for the following parts,' he says as he scrunches his nose at the schematic again. 'We'll need a Tri-coated Metal Casing, one Size C spring, some Creeping silk strands -- whatever those are -- and some Congealed Bile-based Ooze. I'm not sure if this thing is wanting us to make a device or some sort of nasty cocktail, but that's what it's asking for... ewww!'

You receive a Small Parts Kit.

Tabben Bromal says 'Seal those things up in the container that I just gave you and bring it straight back to me. I'll wait here for you and see if I can decipher anymore of this schematic.'

Tri-Coated Metal Casing - random from spiders in PoI,
Size C Spring - random from models in PoI,
Creeping Silk Strands - from a virulent arachnid in PoN
Congealed Bile-Based Ooze - from a pile of bile in PoD
[The loot tables for the bile and arachnids used to be switched, but should now be fixed.]

Combine the four parts in the Small Parts Kit to craft a Sealed Parts Box. Give this to Tabben.

Tabben Bromal says 'Oh, you've returned! Very good, ______! Saria and I have made some real progress on the document that you brought us. Watch this and you'll see what I mean!'

Tabben Bromal quickly opens the small case and removes the parts. He takes a tiny spanner, several small bolts, and a long wire and quickly pieces together what appears to be a small clockwork talisman. He pulls a leather string through the top of it and offers it to you.

You receive a Small Clockwork Talisman.
You receive a Small Parts Container.

Tabben Bromal says 'That should work for you, but from what we gathered, there's another layer of mechanics that works to shield and envelope the existing talisman. It's going to require more parts. So take this container and let me know when you're ready to write down the names of the next set of parts.'

I just killed everything that came through the center of the zone for about 2 hours. It dropped from the Pile of Bile. As a matter of fact I pulled 3 Pile of Bile's at once and it dropped on all 3 of them. That kind of pisses you off when you spent so much time there.

Finished this quest today, April 1, 09 (no not a fools joke)

A great spot for spiders in PoN is on the other side of the waterfall by the zone in.
Spiders & robots in PoI are a cakewalk. Clear the entrance, both ways, repeat.
A pile of bile in PoD is "in the middle of the slight narrowing leading to the northern quadrant" (thnx Sukrasisx)

Some facts regarding this quest
# Jan 28 2009 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
Just got my talisman last night.

Creeping Silk Strands dropped for me on 27 Jan 09 from "a virulent arachnid" or "a virulent hatchling" in Plane of Nightmare. I am sorry, but I do not remember which it was that I actually looted for the item. My group decimated a good sized area around the building near the graveyard. Actually, I'm pretty sure we just killed everything that moved in the whole zone, since you pretty much can't avoid everything in the zone coming at you no matter WHAT you do. After about 30 minutes of carnage, the item was mine.

Congealed Bile Based Ooze dropped for me on 27 Jan 09 from "a pile of bile" in Plane of Disease. We killed everything near the ridge in similar fashion as with Plane of Nightmare. After about 30 minutes, the item was mine.

I started this quest years ago, and had a lengthy hiatus, so I can't testify as to the earlier parts of the quest. I've forgotten them. I HAVE seen Tri-coated Metal Casings on graveyard mobs in Plane of Innovation as recently as last week (today is 28 Jan 09).

I combined the items in the Small Parts Kit successfully. Do not be worried about the fact that the box has six slots and the recipe only calls for four items. I handed the Sealed Parts Box to Tabben in Plane of Knowledge, and recieved the talisman and a Small Parts Container. Questers need to bear in mind that you need an open inventory slot for the container. Mine are usually filled with Deluxe Toolboxes, so I left one in my bank for the hand-in.

Any questions? Ask them now before I forget the details :-)

For years the drop tables were backwards, the oozes dropped from spiders and the silk dropped from the biles. Someone at Sony finally got around to fixing it, and it made the old info obsolete. It appears to have been updated correctly now thou.

All three neck pieces use the Quintessence of Knowledge as a reagent. In other words, you must have the Quintessence of Knowledge in order to use the neck. Once used, you will lose a charge on the neck and the Quintessence (cost ~103pp each to make and do stack.)

just a warning.

When you give the combined box to Tabben in PoK, he'll give you your gate talisman AND a "Small Parts Container".

You need to KEEP THIS for the next set of combines to make the 2nd gate talisman!

It isnt the same one that you combine the first set of ingredients in (tricky tricky). So make room and save a slot for it in your inventory or bank slot if you dont feel like carrying it around forever. If you happen to destroy it, you'll have to refarm the ingredients.

Just finished this quest tonight and thought i'd but in myeperience for those interested in it.

All the components are uncommon and can test your patience.

Tiny Bottle and Note : I spent maybe 1.5 to 2.5 hours waiting for one of these things to drop in PoJ. seems like when i xp hunted there near the zone out every other rat dropped one of these things but it did take me a while.

Size C Spring : I currently box a lvl 67 warrior and a 53 shaman and killed the shaman a few times trying to slow mobs in PoI and getting aggro. I wound up camping warrior and joing group at zone in hoping a size c spring would drop. Took maybe little over 2 hours and i dinged in there too =)

Tri-coated metal casing : I got very luck with this drop as a guildmate of mine was trying to lvl one of his toons in there and casing dropped from a spider. he asked in /gu if anyone needed and.... i went runnin :) On a side note...the same guy had another drop from another spider maybe 30 mintes later. Not sure if it was just pure luck or if they've actually increased the drop rate but i did see 2 drop in a short time. BTW he was just after the zone in to the left past the door to the factory.

Congealed Bile-based Ooze : I went to PoN with a couple friends to look for this drop from the virulent arachnids... within 20 minutes we had 2 drop, one for me and the other for a guildmate.

Creeping Silk Strands : After PoN we headed to PoD and was joined by a few more guildies just looking for something to do. we camped out along the bone wall facing, i think it was North where the river forks. Was basically about 8 people split int two groups all lvl 67+ with chanter for CC and druid tracking. pulled trains of 6+ mobs to camp along with the Pile of Bile that drops the silk strands. Took us a while... maybe 1.5 hours, seems longer than it was because we pulled sooo many mobs... was definately the toughest piece to get to drop.

I can confirm though that the size C Spring drops from Models in PoI

Tri-Coated Metal casing drops from spiders in PoI

Creeping Silk strands drop from Pile of Bile in PoD.

Congealed Bile-Based ooze drops from virulent Spiders in PoN.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to start this quest.

-Good luck!!

Finally got all my pieces.
# Jul 22 2004 at 7:29 PM Rating: Decent
After three weeks I finally got all the pieces (I haven't put that much effort into this quest, kind of a "loot while I'm exping" thing) for the first necklace.

The PoI drops I got while doing normal experience through my early 50s. Tri-coated Metal Casing was definitely the most uncommon of the two PoI drops. I saw Size C Spring about a dozen times through 5 levels whereas Tri-coated Metal Casing I only saw three or four times. (And luckily won the roll on one of them).

Zoned into PoN and saw a rotting spider, looted Congealed Bile-based Ooze (lucky?).

PoD was the biggest pain in the ***. No one goes there anyway, so you're forced to organize your own group (and since people hate PoD you have to ask guildies pretty much). I didn't bother with this and soloed the pile of biles at 61. I got the Creeping Silk Strand after three kills. I got this before the Bile-based ooze and pulled a bonehead move and stored it in a No Rent bag. So I needed another one. :(

My second round was not nearly as lucky as I soloed about 20-25 of these and none of them dropped. Two of my guildies came as they were trying to get it for one of them as well. First pile of bile we killed a strand dropped. Guildie let me have it (thank god). Helped him kill some more to get his as well. Had to kill only about 5 more and it dropped.

The real problem is getting multiple mobs. Everything aggros regardless of what mob you pull, so if you pull a pile of bile any rats, other gooey mobs, and larvae will also aggro. I died once and my guildie died once. Very difficult without a mezzer.

Tiny Bottle with Note was very easy by the way, drop rate is around 25% in PoJ.

What I am wondering is... can you use all 5 charges and THEN turn the depleted talisman in for Talisman #2? Or does it HAVE to have at least one charge left for the turn-in to work?

number of charges doesn't matter for the turn in.

(as an aside, can't think of any quest where the number of charges of an item matters. Doubt the quest engine even supports such a check).
