You say, 'Hail, Elder Gelok'

Elder Gelok says 'Hello there! Welcome in. . . Welcome in. . . Just watch yourself when making your way past my most trusted assistant, Drogguk. While he may have superior strength, his coordination is most inferior. He's dropped many a gear on my toes, but I know he means well. In fact, I was intending to send him on a [serious mission], though I would rather he not go.'

You say, 'what serious mission'

Elder Gelok says 'You see, this windmill is more than it seems. It's quite a splendid device! It produces energy by converting the wind that rotates the blades into a power that supercharges the windmill's transcentrifugal axles. In simple terms, what it does is creates a portal into the [Plane of Innovation]. What a wonderful place that is! A virtual dream-land for any gnome!'

You say, 'what Plane of Innovation'

Elder Gelok says 'Oh, it is such an amazing place! I ultimately desire to travel there to learn of advanced mechanics. Alas, this windmill requires constant upkeep due the constant surge of power that it propels. The gears are constantly getting sandy and the axles lose their grease almost daily. I'm often in need of [new parts] and that's where Drogguk's assistance would currently be handy, but I simply cannot sacrifice his current duties at this time. Pity, pity.'

You say, 'what new parts'

Elder Gelok says 'Well, Drogguk used to travel through the portal to acquire items for me from the salvage yard. The last time he went through in search of parts he came back [badly wounded] and that's saying quite a lot! I was quite alarmed, but the elders nursed him to health with amazing haste. I simply cannot imagine placing him in such jeopardy again. He was lucky to return at all by the look of him then!'

You say, 'how badly wounded'

Elder Gelok says 'Aye, you can still see some of the scars about his body. He stumbled out of the portal that day, bloody and spouting on about shiny men trying to tear him apart. He said they were speaking of research the whole time. Frightful stuff, really. Well, you look adventurous enough. Why don't you go collect some supplies for me? I fear that Drogguk would not be able to manage another trip to collect the [supplies] I require to maintain this place.'

You say, 'what supplies?'

Elder Gelok says 'Size 12 sprockets are always greatly needed. Any Silicorrosive Grease you find would be a huge help as well. You can never have too much Silicorrosive grease laying around. Also, tri-platinum foil and mini-gyro shields would be good for something or another. Micro-ceramic sleeves are a nice find as well. Got all that? Now, reach around up there in the area of the transcentrifugal axle that isn't working. You'll either be badly wounded or transported to the Plane of Innovation. Take care!'

Hand in a requested item:

Elder Gelok examines the object for a moment and then says, 'This is great! The windmill should function for weeks to come due to your hard work. Feel free to bring me any others that you find. A stockpile of parts never hurt anyone!'
You gain experience!!

You also occasionally receive a random valuable gem.

The Size 12 sprockets, tri-platinum foil, Micro-ceramic sleeves, and mini-gyro shields all still give 3-4% AA xp for a level 65 Ranger, which isn't bad. These are all No Drop items, and they don't stack. But the Silicorrosive Grease gives me no xp at all, and it is tradeable and stackable. The Silicorrosive Grease can be used for other things, while the other items are just for this quest only. I think when they added this item to the Aid Fimli quest, or maybe for the Innovative Glaze, they took away the xp for this item.

I didn't try enough Silicorrosive Grease to see if you can still get a gem for the turn-in. About one in five turn-ins of the other items yields a gem.

On a turn in of ANY of the items by itself, or in any combination BESIDES one of each you have a CHANCE to get a gem. if you turn in one of each at the SAME time, you are guaranteed to get one of the diamonds. In my experience, it is better to save the grease for other things and just collect the No Drop stuff to turn in and hope you get a gem, as they pretty much serve no other purpose (and if you're doing a PoI raid like Xanamech, you can get several of them in a short period of time).
Good Bonus Exp
# Sep 18 2004 at 6:54 PM Rating: Decent
At level 54 turned in one "Mini-gyro Shields", and one "Tri-platinum Foil", each yeilding 1% exp each for a total of 2% experience. Received no gems at all.

While it not may be a good idea to farm the turn-ins for experience, it's very good free bonus experience while grouping in the PoI.

Edit: Did both turn-ins on Saturday, September 18th, 2004.

I turned in 4 of the foil and my exp bar did not even budge at level 50, nor did I get any gems. What a rip off.

I turned in 30 grease with my 53 toon, putting all xp into normal xp. I didn't even see the bar move. I'd say the level of xp has be nerfed now. That's too bad. I've gotten a fair amount of xp from this quest in the past with other toons.

Oh, and I got 3 peridot and 1 blue diamond total.

Diamonds

As the above dialogue says you recieve a random gem of value for the turn in... but if you do a turn if of 4 of the same item all at once, you are guarenteed 5x the experience, and at least 1 of each different diamond

I don't see any dialogue that says that atm... was it changed?
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 22 2004 at 4:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) How do you hand in the NO DROP items? The game won't let me do that.

To hand in NO DROP items to any NPC, make sure you are close to them, and then just give it to them like anyone else. No Drop items cannot be dropped (surprise surprise), and if you are too far away from the NPC, it will try to drop the item as opposed to hand it in.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 18 2003 at 6:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Come on you guys, you are all complaining about the low amount of exp you get for turning in this stuff. What do you expect to get a blue for every piece you turn in...come on! You can play in poi for a few hours and collect about 20 pieces. This is a good amount of exp for no work at all. + the exp you get for killing the mobs to get these
This is an easy quest

You only have to go to one place and then you get to get some xp from the yard trash But you may want to sell the grease because you can get more PP then the xp is worth at least at lvl 55.

Just wanted to point out that the Silicorrosive Grease is also used in the quest for the Cloak of Greater Pernicity, and is therefore very valuable as a bazaar item lately. I sell them for anywhere between 300 and 800pp each on Xegony.

ALso, I turned in a foil and got a peridot and a little bit of exp. I'm told that the gem he hands back is hit or miss and the type of gem is completely random.

RE: ?
# May 15 2003 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Size 12 sprockets drop about every 2-3 hours from Clockwork Golems in the factory...
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 18 2003 at 6:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) thats completely untrue. The 12 sprockets drop about every 2-3 pulls in the factory which is 15 mins maybe. And usually 2 drop at a time...
Tri-Platinum Foil
# Jan 26 2003 at 5:08 AM Rating: Good
I got about 3% AA for turning in a Tri-Platinum Foil.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 17 2003 at 12:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok the minimum level says 55 but on the zone info it says level 46 to get into the zone so i was wondering if u could do this at level 46 if people would let u loot the stuff could u turn in the items? i am asking because i dont have the POP expansion yet because my comp got hit with lightning and i am currently waiting on a new one to come in mail so i havent actually been to any of the planes so could someone tell me if i could do this at level 46.
RE: level to do this
# Mar 10 2003 at 8:55 AM Rating: Default
The guy you turn the items in to is in Plane of Tranquility. I'm sure you could do it at lvl 46, but you will definitely need PoP. However, most people know what these items are used for and never let any of them rot.
as long as you are at zin in PoI
# Jan 02 2003 at 2:55 AM Rating: Decent
You can grab the yard trash loot, which is nice for clerics and their heavy dot costs, and turn a lot of it in to this guy for gems and minor exp.

I think this is pretty cool, unlike a lot of the first tier zones I grind in we can actually get loot and either help with quest armor or sell it to vendors, or stick in vault.

Nice way for clerics to get reimb for all that time in PoP as well, just suggest a little trip to PoI and ask if you can please keep the junk loot.

I turned in all 4 items at once and was rewarded with 1 Raw Diamond and 4 experience messages. So turning in a single item yields better results. This quest is just for exp and possible Diamonds.
RE: Result
# Jan 08 2004 at 11:15 AM Rating: Default
If you got 4 XP messages then as far as the NPC is concerned you did the quest 4 times. You only got one gem though, and that's not terribly uncommon. I'd say you get a gem roughly 1/3 of the turnins, though to Gelok's credit, he's only given me a dot once. All the rest were the more valuable 100pp+ kinds.

Turned in a size 12 sprocket and was rewarded some exp and a diamond. The gem loots are random from what I can tell. I have turned in all of the types of supplies he requested. I have tried one at a time and up to 4 at a time and from what I can tell had no effect on what or if gems were rewarded.
