Randi Ellan may be found at +900, +675.

You say, 'Hail, Randi Ellan'

Randi Ellan says 'And a good morning to you as well, Gwyndalyn. I can see by the gleam in your eye you are interested in learning more about the flowers of Norrath. Sadly my exhibit is not much to speak of. I require new [specimens] to help build my collection.'

You say, 'What specimens?'

Randi Ellan says 'If you could find some for me, I would be ever so grateful. I need a Black Root, Maneater Bud, Yew Leaf, and a Twilight Orchid. If you should come across them, handle them with care. Be sure to get a Collector's Box from [Merri] to keep them in. Close the box and return it to me.'

Black Root may be foraged in Misty Thicket. Maneater Bud drops from various plant monsters in the Emerald Jungle and Swamp of No Hope. Twilight Orchid may be foraged in certain zones in Luclin. Yew Leaf may be foraged in the Wakening Land.

Upon handing in the items:

Randi Ellan says 'Plants and flowers are a special treasure I keep close to my heart. Did you ever stop to marvel at how beautiful these specimens are? I thank you greatly for them. Here, take this in return.'

You receive a Fine Antique Corset.

Randi's location is 901, 676. When you give her the collection of plants she says "Plants and flowers are a special treasure I keep close to my heart. Did you ever stop to marvel at how beautiful these specimens are? I thank you greatly for them. Here, take this in return."

That's easy - the drop/forage from Vex Thal (Twilight Orchid) drops from other zones as well (Twilight Sea, Maiden's Eye, and Umbral Plains).. and is NOT NO DROP - so can be done by another alt or bought from the bazaar.

In fact none of the required drops/forages are NO DROP - so the whole quest can be done by any level.

I had a weird experience with this quest...

I used a lvl 25 (24 by the end of it) Iksar Shadow Knight.

I decided it was too hard to get to twilight sea easily, so I went to Maiden's Eye to forage the Twilight Orchid. I didn't take a single step in and never saw a mob. I got the twilight orchid on my 5th try. Next I decided to get the Black Root. I ran to Misty Thicket and got attacked by an NPC near the PoK book, so I ran straight away from the path and that was safe as far as I could tell. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to forage the Black Root. I got 3 of the Druid/Ranger epic pieces in that time though... (forgot what its called).

Next I did the Maneater Bud. I ran to SoNH and ran around killing maneater shrubs and foraging for about 2 hours until I got lost and killed by a Black Ravanger... So while I'm running to my corpse I forage the maneater bud... hehehe...

So then I have to get the yew leaf, I put all my stuff in the bank, I buy 2 invis potions, it drops in the middle of kael (in addition to me being lost) and I die. So then I die trying to get into kael and had 4 invis potions. Then someone explains to me how to get through (the EQ Atlas map isn't very good) and I get through this time, and forage the yew leaf in about 15 minutes. Then invis drops in the middle of kael and I die again, and now I'm getting xp to 25 so I can summon my corpse with the yew leaf...

Took my first trip to EJ yesterday and got one of these. I can't remember if it dropped off a flowery-looking mob I took out, or if I foraged it.

I forage so much stuff, I have no idea what came from where anymore, lol.

It can be foraged, but it ~does~ also drop from certain Kunark plant mobs. I camped one today (and got it!) with my non-foraging DE cleric. It dropped from "man eating fern" in SoNH.

Here is what i will tell you - PURE LUCK
there is no minimum skill invole to forage any of these. Friend of mien with forage skill of ZERO picked Yew Leaf on first try, took me an HOUR to get mine with skill of 200.
Black Root hwoever is a way more common that the other theree, and the yew leaf is the MOST dangerous one to get - port to WL get killed by Wuoshi a nice 65+ dragon =)

Very nice item, found the leaf and twilight orchid in bazaar and got both for 75 pp. Although i thought that was alot for some foraged items, i thought i'd prefer to get this belt then spend 600 pp on one that wasn't even as nice. Logged on my ranger foraged the black root on second attempt at about 150 skill, went to swamp of no hope tried for about 20 min and asked a few high levels if they had one foraged ( happened to be there for the epic mob ) well a 63 ranger found one for me on first try but had to get ported out, left me the loc and i was happy after about 30 min of wadering of finding a nice little bag which was the bud. So i go back to hand it in, i didn't combine the items and handed em in, she simply said she didn't need this and handed the box and all the contents back, she will not take the items inside as said in a previous post. combined and handed in, all in all my like 5 second lifetap seems to still take forevver to cast, but my fear is nicely reduced and i already had haste on my DoT's. Only this is i wish they would make it make all spells cast in a shorter time, i think they have to be over 2 seconds to cast, o well FD still saves me ( except from Ran Flamespinner when i was killing that merchant ) heeh, GL to all and i'd like to say i love the resists on it aswell, if u ever dueling another necro / shammy / SK.

I finished this last night. The twilight orchid took the longest to find (about 2 hours in the Twilight Sea), and I got my foraging from 135 to 148. :) All in all, it's a nice little belt. Panic Animal is down to 1.7 sec casting time (very important when snow cougars are whacking me for 60 hps a hit).

Note you can do the magic pool quest in PoK much quicker for a spell-haste II focus mask.

Note that you can eat your black root, something about which I am sad.
Also, when you forage an edible item that looks just like a root you may not notice, so be sure to double-check your inventory. I foraged one without knowing.

I'm a level 42 Druid on Bristlebane server. Took me 3 hours almost on the dot to complete the quest. I started with the Black Root in Misty Thicket. I was bored while wating for the forage so I power leveled a level 1 ranger. It took about 1 hour for that forage. The Twighlight Orchid found in Twighlight Sea was easy for me as it was the very first thing I foraged. It was the same story in Swamp of No Hope. I got the Maneater Bud on the first forage. The Yew Leaf was by far the hardest one to forage as it took almost an hour and a half to forage it. I ran around the whole time looking on the ground for one. All in all it was worth 3 hours for the spell haste II that will last me until level 49. My self ports that used to be 7 seconds only takes 5.9 seconds now. BIG help. WOOT!!!

I can confirm that you can do this quest at level 20 at least, I did so with my lvl 20 RNG, talk about exciting. I only died once, when cammo dropped and I was in the middle of Kael.

I can also firmly state that you do not nead to have a forage over 100 to do this quest, I got the yew leaf at forage 96.

Agreed you do not need 100 forage for the quest. My bard (max forage 55) got the yew leaf, and my baby iksar (base forage 50) got the maneater bud.

Two points to make here...
# Nov 26 2002 at 2:33 AM Rating: Good

The first point to make is that the minimum level is listed as 1, because you don't have to kill anything to do the quest. All four items are foraged items, so they can be acquired by simply sitting in a zone and hitting a hotkey every 120 seconds. Also, all four items are tradeable, so you don't even have to be the one to sit around foraging them.

The second point to make is that for those of you who get the "does not combine" message, it's very likely that you are using a Mantrap Bud instead of a Maneater Bud. She asks for a Maneater Bud, which are foraged in the Swamp of No Hope where the maneater plants are at. The Mantrap Bud is foraged in the Emerald Jungle, where you find mantrap roots and erolisi bloodthorns.

Also, FYI: it probably took me 1.5 hours to forage my first yew leaf in the Wakening Lands, and that was with maxed out forage skill of 200, and a +10% forage item, for a total skill of 220 forage. I ran around that whole time, looking for yew leaves on the ground, but when I finally foraged that first one, I decided to just go kill flying monkeys until I found another one... which didn't happen for about another 2 hours. Rare, rare forage, those yew leaves... to put it into context, while I was sitting in Misty Thicket trying to forage 2 black roots, I foraged at least 3 sweetened mudroots... and those are lore, no-drop quest items.

You have scrounged up something that doesn't look edible...
Duplicate lore items are not allowed!

Learned the hard way about the difference between the Mantrap Bud from Trakanon's Teeth and the Maneater Bud that you need.

Also, all Iksar get forage at level 50, so one interesting way to get the bud is to start a baby iksar and have them run around the newbie yard in the Swamp with forage keyed to right arrow. My shaman was almost to level 3 by the time he got the Bud, and it was a lot less boring than sitting there with my 53 bard twiddling my thumbs.

Also, the Maneater Bud has no value to normal merchants. So don't waste your time trying to vendor mine for it.

Completed this quest last night. In the spirit of commerce, I just started offering 100pp each per piece of this quest. Tells came in relatively quickly as foragers who thought these items were worthless but held onto them anyway receiving good pp for their skills. Got the box, threw 'em in, COMBINEd, and turned in to Randi... Voila!
Good resist item. Spell Haste II isn't bad either =P

My Level 23 druid did it... the Yew Leaf appears to be foragable only, i didnt see any ground spawn (used Sup Camo to run around, nothing seems to see it) and i didnt get a single one till my forage was 100...

Run through Kael invis, run out into WL invis, then follow the left wall till you see the Dragon Ring... i sat there for 2 days till i was able to forage the Yew and never saw a single creature around the Ring itself.

Becareful around the ring. For those of you who have not heard by now, Wuoshi (a dragon) likes to hang out around the ring and kill people as they port in. I know from firsthand xp, he hits hard but kinda slow. And is usually taken out right after spawning on my server. Some race/class combos are not kos by default, but dark elves of Innoruuk are, hope this info helps save some people from the port death trap.

Maiden's Eye is a damn dangerous zone for most folks, apparently the Twilight Orchid is also found in (go figure) Twilight Sea also as several people have confirmed they foraged it there in the posts on it. So I'd recommend going there to get it even if you can survive in Maiden's Eye.
