You must obtain the Shackle of Steel before beginning this quest.

Find Veltar in the Dreadlands and speak to him.

    You say, 'Hail, Veltar'

Veltar 's body has scars all about it, looking as though beaten with whips. One wrist bares a unique looking bracer, the other is bare. 'Leave me be! I did not come up here because I wanted company.' '

You say, 'Tell me about the tynnonium shackle'

Veltar says 'So it is the one that has freed me before! You seek the ways of Tynn I see. You must be on the true path of the monk to accomplish what is needed. The path will test the three virtues most important to becoming a true vessel for Cazic Thule's power. '

You say, 'What are the three virtues?'

Veltar says 'The three virtues are [patience], [agility], and [peace of mind]. Patience is important in knowing in when to strike your opponent, too soon and you may crushed, too late and your opportunity may pass. Agility is very important in showing your ability to avoid blows sent your way, and then returning what was sent to you. Without striking quickly you are no monk at all. Peace of mind will allow you to concentrate on the situation you are in. With it you can control your actions and make decisive strikes at critical times. Without peace of mind you may attack out of rage and will surely fall for your mind is clouded. You must complete these three [trials] to earn the shackle of the Grandmaster. '

You say, 'What is the trial of agility?'

Veltar says 'To show agility you must be tested by the most swift of us. Grandmaster Glox will provide your test for this. Ask him of the trial of agility. '

You say, 'What is the trial of patience?'

Veltar says 'Patience shall be tested by the one whom has the greatest patience. Seek Master Rinmark, and ask him of this trial. '

You say, 'What is the trial of peace of mind?'

Veltar says 'To show peace of mind you must decipher a tome found in the library of Kaesora. An undead tome keeper will wait for you to come, ask him of the trial of peace of mind. The tome will tell you what you shall seek. Do with the tome the same as you would with the item you seek. Show you have clarity of mind in solving this. '

Head over to East Cabilis and find Grand Master Glox.

You say, 'I am ready for the Trial of Agility.'

Grand Master Glox says 'I knew you were not the whiff others claimed you to be, are you sure you are ready to be tested in agility?'

You say, 'Yes, I am ready'

You will warp into a locked room.

Grand Master Glox begins to cast a spell.
Grand Master Glox says 'We shall spar then, I hope you are as prepared as you think you are.'

Master Glox regards you indifferently -- You would probably win this fight..it's not certain though.

    You say, 'Hail, Master Glox'

Master Glox says 'That took you long enough. Well then, are you ready to prove your agility to me?'

You have to attack him to start the trial.

You crush Master Glox for 143 points of damage.
You crush Master Glox for 196 points of damage.
Master Glox's corpse says 'Your have come onto your own. Spread the pain you have shown me to all of your foes.'
    You have slain Master Glox!

--You have looted a Mark of Agility.--
--You have looted a Potion of Escape.--

You begin casting Field of Bone Port.
Your Potion of Escape begins to glow.

Head over to the Timorous Deep and find the Iksar Master (proper name, Master Rinmark) on chessboard island.

You say, 'I am ready for the Trial of Patience.'

an Iksar master says 'So your time has finally come to be tested for the final rung. To show your patience you shall spar with me. When you have gained the insight and strategy to strike you will know when. Strike me too soon and you will perish, too late and I will be gone. Come at me when the time is right. Let us begin.'

an Iksar master despawns and Grandmaster Rinmark spawns.

After a little while you see:

Grandmaster Rinmark seems to lose a small amount of concentration.

And he despawns. Master Rinmark spawns.

After a little while you see:

Master Rinmark stares off into the horizon, lost in his thoughts.

    And he despawns. Rinmark spawns.

    Auto attack is on.

Rinmark says 'Good, your sense of timing is correct. Now begin! Show me that your training has not been wasted.'

You crush Rinmark for 94 points of damage.
    You gain experience!!
Rinmark's corpse says 'Your ability is strong, may you serve Cazic Thule with all your might.'
    You have slain Rinmark!

--You have looted a Mark of Patience.--

To complete the Trial of Peace of Mind, go to the Kaesora library and kill an Iksar Spectre until A Tome Keeper spawns.

You say, 'Hail, a tome keeper'

a tome keeper shows awareness of you, but ignores you completely.

You say, 'I am ready for the Test of Peace of Mind.'

a tome keeper begins to speak to you without movement of his rotted mouth, you realize his words are pouring into your mind. 'You seek peace of mind, and may you have it. First though, your Shackle of Steel. One Shackle for one tome.'

Give him your Shackle of Steel.

a tome keeper drops a tattered tome at your feet and says nothing more. You pick it up and place it among your things.

You receive a random tome, e.g., Greyed Tome. Read the tome and follow the directions.

Here is a list of the various tomes and their solutions (short versions). They generally consist of bringing a groundspawn to a certain NPC in exchange for the final mark. Remember you'll need only do one of the following, depending on which tome he gives you:

Pale White Tome: Head to the City of Mist and find a ground spawn called "Vine Woven Basket." Turn the tome and basket in to Master Bain in East Cabilis to receive a Mark of Clarity.

Faded White Tome: Bring Mechanical Iksar Tail (quest reward from Kwinn the Outlander in Firiona) to Master Raska.

Solid Black Tome: Bring a Frozen Soulstone (ground spawn in yeti caves in the Dreadlands) to Prime Hierophant Vek.

Prime Heirophant Vek smiles at your dedication to Cazic Thule and hands you a small gem.

You receive a Mark of Clarity.

Dark Black Tome: Bring Skyfire Pumice (ground spawn on a pillar in the lava lake in Skyfire) to Prime Hierophant Vek.

Dim White Tome: Bring Earthenware Bowl (ground spawn in a water barrel in frogtown in Swamp of No Hope, location -1262, -1411, 28) to Master Bain (?).

Dark Grey Tome: Bring a Sarnak Hide (3rd floor in Dalnir) to War Baron Eator.

Pure White Tome: Bring a Sealed Journal (Mines of Nurga, hole to the right at zone in, need levitation) to Master Raska.

Greyed Tome: Bring a Ring of Construct (Karnor's Castle, location -149, -298, +3) to Master Niska

Master Niska smiles at your dedication to Cazic Thule and hands you a small gem.
    You gain experience!!

    (What do you receive?)

Light Grey Tome: Bring a Kromdul Bracelet (mines in Frontier Mountains) to Master Niska (?).

Light Black Tome Bring a Chokadai scale (in Chardok) to War Baron Eator.

When all three marks are in your inventory, return to the Dreadlands and hand in the marks of Agility, Patience and Peace of Mind to Veltar.

Veltar says 'So you are finally ready for the final rung. Here it is, you shall receive mine for I quest for the fists of Cazic Thule no longer.'
Your faction standing with Swift Tails has been adjusted by 100.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis has been adjusted by 25.
    You gain experience!!

You receive your Shackle of Tynnonium.

You can do all the trials without speaking to him.

When you get all 3, travel to DL and hail him to hear quest then hand the gems in.

Do still need to turn in the mechanical tail that you get from Kwinn, and if so when do you hand it in.

I completed this quest and just thought to share a few things.

For dubious to guards, I killed multitudes of goblins. I started out killing the ones in the huts in lake of ill omen. I got a few stacks of the green goblin skins (which i later find out are good for faction somewhere... ). I would check my faction periodically and still be kos. Then I tried killing a few iksar bandits and such... this brought me to the goblin fort in warslilk woods (sp). Here I could get a few items i needed while getting faction... I began clearing the fort regularly and finally found where the iksar gloves came from. Then, lo and behold, expecting yet another pair of rotting gloves, I get an earring off the guy. shrunken goblin skull ear WOOT. Didnt even know he dropped anything good.
So i keep killing goblins and later that night... another earring... WOOT!.

then eventually i had dubious.. turned in maybe 50 stacks of bone chips and still kos to troopers... so reading boards.. i decide to try the explorer knives... after 13 stacks... im good enough to do the monk quest... woot.

Kos now in kelethin fv and kaladim. Then last couple nights.. i went to cb and broke trains and killed pawns and such and dvinn and crush couple times... back to dubious in kelethin.. woot.

Killed at goblin fort again, hoping for another earring for alt, no earring but 2 evenings for a couple hours killing goblins, am back to apprehensive in FV.

Turns out it doesnt take you too far into kos land killing the explorers. Assuming you start out in good graces with everyone.

So, to sum it up, the explorer knives, even though you loose good faction getting them, are much much faster than bone chips. And you can get your oldschool faction back fast.

Ok I got the dark black tome. Said on monkley-business.com that I had to get item from SF and turn the tme and item into Prime Hierophant Vek. So I did that but now I have Mark of Clarity, do I have to turn the mark into some one to get peace of mind or is it the same thing?

I did Master Glox yesterday afternoon, I had Virtue, HoS, Spirit of Bi'rhi, and Stamina. I also used a lava potion just in case. I killed him before he had me past 63 pct. I was using a Wu, Knuckle Dusters, and had a FBSS. and at the time with all buffs I had 2999 hp. hope that helps.

Now I just need to do Rinmark, I'm going to see if I can do him myself with similiar or the same buffs, but will have friends there to back me up if need to hehe.

Just finished the Shackle of Tynn part and wanted to pass on something from my experience with it that might help others. When I hailed Grandmaster Glox and told him I was ready, he ported me to locked room, but didn't show up for about 15 to 20 mins, I was stuck in there and even petitioned about him not showing up in the time I waited. Even created a newbie monk on another account to give him the key phrase again. He finally did show and at level 51 with some good buffs from a shaman and cleric friend, wasn't too tough.

Now Rinmark on the other hand was a bit tougher and fight was much closer. Hope that helps.

The fight with master glox was pretty straight forward but you might buy a HoS for it. At lvl 51 I had to FD the first fight and noticed that he heals extremely fast. Again master rinmark pretty straight forward, he hits slightly harder and much slower. Tomekeeper in upstairs in Kaesora library. The 'vine woven basket' took me a while to find but its loc was neg234, neg617 in CoM. GL

    # Oct 06 2002 at 2:22 AM Rating: Decent
I just handed in my shackel of steel to get the tomb today.. you dont get it returned.

The tomb reads in lizardman as :
"Hard as steel grown since birth. What was once a defence now lies upon the earth. Found in the caves, then taken to the war baron of those no longer slaves"

Is this the same as the other one.. with the COM ground spawn handed into master Bain?

    Can anyone help me?

    *edit*
    Light Black Tome Riddle

Riddle Text: Hard as steel, though grown since birth. What was once a defense now lies upon the earth. Found in the caves, then taken to the War Baron of those no longer slaves.
    Item: Chokadai scale
Location: Chardok (where the Watch Sergant Spawns in the front of the fort gate...the top left side)
Turn in to: War Baron Eator
Tip: Get SoW before you zone into Chardok. Once in the entrance, get Levitation and Invisible. MOST of the MoBs will not see thru the Invisible until you get to the fort gate where the undead MoBs will see thru it. As you run towards the fort gate, Lev will keep you right at the ceiling. Stay as close to the ceiling as possible. Once you enter the fort area, you *should* be able to float all the way to the second ledge (where the ground spawn is). If you do not make it. run between the two ledges and up the stairs to your left. The ground spawn is NOT on the outer part of the ledge, but back on the right (as you stand on the ledge facing out).

When you hand the Tomekeeper in City of Mist your Shackle of Steel, does he keep it or return it to you along with the tome? Nowhere have I seen anybody post this particular bit of info and being somewhat equipment poor the matter of the shackle is important to my monk.

I suspect if you die and need your corpse you can redintiate your fight with glox, get teleported back into the room. FD so you dont have agro. then /q out. Log back on and you may not have agro. Just a thought.
If not you need SC your way out or have a rogue bring a few friends down. hehe.

    Glox room
    # Aug 30 2002 at 1:25 AM Rating: Decent
I just attempted the Trial of Agility today, slightly premature it seems. This guide, and others I have read assume you win this fight, get the escape potion and get out. So what if, as I did, you LOSE and die at the hands of your master. I can attest that you lose XP as you would for any other death. It seems however my corpse remained in this 'locked room'.
My questions are: Can I get my corpse back and, if so, How?
Fortunately, as I said, I had read this guide and others and was aware of this room so I made my first attempt naked...no loot lost if corpse unrecoverable.

The secret of the Glox fight is that he does not hit very hard just VERY fast. Get a good damage shield potion and he will kill himself in short order on it. I took him out at about 46th with some 51 cleric buffs and a DS. Buy a blistering skin potion and you should have little trouble with him.

Get a fellow Ikky Necro to summon your corpse out.

I attempted too early as well. Thought "Heck, I'm 51 and gonna fight a level 40 mob.. this will be cake." Yah right. Feigned out of 3 fights, and had to log for work, so I too am stuck in the room, except I'm living :P

I tried it at 51, and found it pretty simple. Like it's been said here, he hits very fast, but not hard. Got an HoS and was wearing my FBSS, was enough to insure I was doing more damge per time to him than he was to me, was simple then.

Rinmark was harder. Hits as fast as Glox, but quite a bit harder! However with virtue wasn't too difficult.

I just completed this quest today. It took me about 8 hours from beginning to end. I enlisted the help trackers for the last part of the quest to obtain the mark of clarity. The note above says that the tomekeeper can give you a different tome. This is true. I received a faded white tome with very cryptic instuctions. It turned out that I had to do the mechanical iksar tail quest to get the mark of clarity. www.monkly-business.com has a great walkthru with all the different tomes under the whistling fists quest. The shackle of Tynnonium is a sub quest for the whistling fist quest which rewards the whistling fist - a 12/20 h2h weapon with epic like stats and clickable jonathons whistling warsong. Check it out at monklybusiness for more info.
