You must obtain the Shackle of Steel before beginning this quest.

Find Veltar in the Dreadlands and speak to him.

    You say, 'Hail, Veltar'

Veltar 's body has scars all about it, looking as though beaten with whips. One wrist bares a unique looking bracer, the other is bare. 'Leave me be! I did not come up here because I wanted company.' '

You say, 'Tell me about the tynnonium shackle'

Veltar says 'So it is the one that has freed me before! You seek the ways of Tynn I see. You must be on the true path of the monk to accomplish what is needed. The path will test the three virtues most important to becoming a true vessel for Cazic Thule's power. '

You say, 'What are the three virtues?'

Veltar says 'The three virtues are [patience], [agility], and [peace of mind]. Patience is important in knowing in when to strike your opponent, too soon and you may crushed, too late and your opportunity may pass. Agility is very important in showing your ability to avoid blows sent your way, and then returning what was sent to you. Without striking quickly you are no monk at all. Peace of mind will allow you to concentrate on the situation you are in. With it you can control your actions and make decisive strikes at critical times. Without peace of mind you may attack out of rage and will surely fall for your mind is clouded. You must complete these three [trials] to earn the shackle of the Grandmaster. '

You say, 'What is the trial of agility?'

Veltar says 'To show agility you must be tested by the most swift of us. Grandmaster Glox will provide your test for this. Ask him of the trial of agility. '

You say, 'What is the trial of patience?'

Veltar says 'Patience shall be tested by the one whom has the greatest patience. Seek Master Rinmark, and ask him of this trial. '

You say, 'What is the trial of peace of mind?'

Veltar says 'To show peace of mind you must decipher a tome found in the library of Kaesora. An undead tome keeper will wait for you to come, ask him of the trial of peace of mind. The tome will tell you what you shall seek. Do with the tome the same as you would with the item you seek. Show you have clarity of mind in solving this. '

Head over to East Cabilis and find Grand Master Glox.

You say, 'I am ready for the Trial of Agility.'

Grand Master Glox says 'I knew you were not the whiff others claimed you to be, are you sure you are ready to be tested in agility?'

You say, 'Yes, I am ready'

You will warp into a locked room.

Grand Master Glox begins to cast a spell.
Grand Master Glox says 'We shall spar then, I hope you are as prepared as you think you are.'

Master Glox regards you indifferently -- You would probably win this fight..it's not certain though.

    You say, 'Hail, Master Glox'

Master Glox says 'That took you long enough. Well then, are you ready to prove your agility to me?'

You have to attack him to start the trial.

You crush Master Glox for 143 points of damage.
You crush Master Glox for 196 points of damage.
Master Glox's corpse says 'Your have come onto your own. Spread the pain you have shown me to all of your foes.'
    You have slain Master Glox!

--You have looted a Mark of Agility.--
--You have looted a Potion of Escape.--

You begin casting Field of Bone Port.
Your Potion of Escape begins to glow.

Head over to the Timorous Deep and find the Iksar Master (proper name, Master Rinmark) on chessboard island.

You say, 'I am ready for the Trial of Patience.'

an Iksar master says 'So your time has finally come to be tested for the final rung. To show your patience you shall spar with me. When you have gained the insight and strategy to strike you will know when. Strike me too soon and you will perish, too late and I will be gone. Come at me when the time is right. Let us begin.'

an Iksar master despawns and Grandmaster Rinmark spawns.

After a little while you see:

Grandmaster Rinmark seems to lose a small amount of concentration.

And he despawns. Master Rinmark spawns.

After a little while you see:

Master Rinmark stares off into the horizon, lost in his thoughts.

    And he despawns. Rinmark spawns.

    Auto attack is on.

Rinmark says 'Good, your sense of timing is correct. Now begin! Show me that your training has not been wasted.'

You crush Rinmark for 94 points of damage.
    You gain experience!!
Rinmark's corpse says 'Your ability is strong, may you serve Cazic Thule with all your might.'
    You have slain Rinmark!

--You have looted a Mark of Patience.--

To complete the Trial of Peace of Mind, go to the Kaesora library and kill an Iksar Spectre until A Tome Keeper spawns.

You say, 'Hail, a tome keeper'

a tome keeper shows awareness of you, but ignores you completely.

You say, 'I am ready for the Test of Peace of Mind.'

a tome keeper begins to speak to you without movement of his rotted mouth, you realize his words are pouring into your mind. 'You seek peace of mind, and may you have it. First though, your Shackle of Steel. One Shackle for one tome.'

Give him your Shackle of Steel.

a tome keeper drops a tattered tome at your feet and says nothing more. You pick it up and place it among your things.

You receive a random tome, e.g., Greyed Tome. Read the tome and follow the directions.

Here is a list of the various tomes and their solutions (short versions). They generally consist of bringing a groundspawn to a certain NPC in exchange for the final mark. Remember you'll need only do one of the following, depending on which tome he gives you:

Just want to post and confirm that it is possible to heal through the floor to help a char do the Trial of Agility. As a 43 Monk I was having trouble even buffed with virt, but brought my 38 Shaman in with an invis potion, stood behind the shaman guild (no pats there) and targeted with group window. Not sure if /tar will work there or not. This is on Al'Kabor btw. Good luck!

Handed the frozen soulstone and solid black tome to Prime Hierophant Vek and he responded:
Prime Heirophant Vek smiles at your dedication to Cazic Thule and hands you a small gem.

The gem was the Mark of Clarity.

I believe all the tome solutions require both the item-to-find (e.g. Frozen Soulstone) and the tome to be handed in which isn't clear in the text, except for the pale white tome solution where it is stated.

ok still 39 and tried to do this, i had dmf still from rinmark fight. went in went down wrong way. i still dont know how to get out of zone. i just loggde for 6 hours and returned home. came back and went to the left when i first zoned in. the mobs are like all db and are kinda spread out. i'd just fd everytime i got a nice train. the tome keeper is on the 2nd floor of library, almost similar to pok library (on much smaller scale). the stairs to go up start on NE corner of library and loop around. he was up when i got there. hailed, said the message got the solid black tome. had no problem. i guess im gonna log for another 6 hours and head to DL to get my groundspawn.

ok i got 2 guildies, 51 necro, and 40 something necro-im 39 monk. we ran out there and the DE got owned by an iksar master, so alittle set back there. i had ds potion and tried to tank him for alittle while, im not sure how much damage i really did, when rinmark was at 50% i had to fd and pets tanked from there. so if you want to help here its cool, not like glox fight
    glox fight
    # Sep 09 2006 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
just did glox, im 39 monk on progression server, so gear is somewhat limited. this fight is awesome. glox has like 0 regen. i bought some 30 point DS potions, couldn't find any regen potions. fight took long enough for mend to pop a 2nd time (used first one as soon as he got me to 75%). seriously though, this fight can take as long as you need. also the spot you get ported to is behind shaman guild, so if you see a shammy in zone or something they can heal you through wall i believe.

    Shackle of Tynn.
    # Mar 23 2004 at 7:05 AM Rating: Decent
Why some people say they have to do their shackle of tynnonium again?

Do you use up your shackle of tynnonium in the quest process of CF or WF? I don't see any part where the shackle will be used up for the CF or WF..

So why are people doing it the second time? It's LORE isn't it?
    RE: Shackle of Tynn.
    # Apr 22 2004 at 10:39 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, the shackle of Tynnonium is used for the Whistling Fists quest.

To obtain the original fists (which have long since lost their power, and the entire quest is based on you finding them and restoring their power) you must first prove your worthiness to a long dead monk in Old Sebilis. Proving your worthiness means handing him your shackle of tynnonium. He keeps it and fights you, you kill him, and take his "original fists".

You can then choose to go on and get new bracers, or you can redo the shackle quest to get this again.

I personally did it over again, as the shackle of tynnonium is possibly the single best bracer you can get until ornate (and tynn is MUCH cheaper than ornate... free infact) and possibly even further than that.
can use some help on foaraging
    # Dec 16 2003 at 12:25 AM Rating: Decent
i would like to do the shackle of bronze quest so that i can do the rest of the quests and seeing that i am a human monk i cannot forage the items i need for it.... any ideas on how i can complete the quest. would be greatly appreciated (excuse any errors : p )

I couldn't forage the items either for the quests being a Human Monk as well. However, on the bright side, none of those items needed to be foraged are No Drop which means you can just hit up your local ranger/druid to do it for you or just buy them in the bazaar or off vendors in Cabilis. The only tricky part is the Frontier Fools Gold. Best and easiest way to tell what one you need for the quest is to have the ranger/druid forage at least a couple pieces then head over to any merchant. The Gold you need for the quest is NOT sellable, while the other one is, so have them try to sell the pieces. You'll know soon enough if you have what you need.

As for the Three tests, as a 55 Monk when I did them, they were very easy.

The first test, the trial of Patience was a pain. Sit and watch Rinmark for about 3 minutes I believe. As you sit there, his title will change, from Grandmaster Rinmark, to Master Rinmark to just plain ol' Rinmark. Once he hits just plain ol' Rinmark, either hail him to initiate the attack or just beat the bejeezus out of him without hesitation. He hits about 80-100 at level 55 so it's not too much. I myself just hit up my local shammy and cleric and went over there hasted, focused and virtued and Rinmark couldn't even take me down past 85%.

The second test, the trial of Agility is where you get ported into the room with Grandmaster Glox and have to fight him. He dies very quickly; easier than Rinmark though if you're not ready for it, he could get the drop on you as he DOES hit very fast. He drops two things upon death, the Agility Mark and a potion to port you out of that room. Overall, very easy to complete, especially if you have buffs.

The third and final test, the Peace of Mind is a pain. Fight yourself down to the library in Kaesora (careful if you're less than lvl 55 as the mobs will "gang up" on you and still whittle you down pretty quickly) Head up to the second floor of the libary and look over in the corner. If you don't see the Tomekeeper up, kill what is in his place; eventually he will pop. Hand him your Steel shackle and get a book, then get the heck outta there.

There are 10 different books he can give you. All of them require getting some trinket then handing it in, along with the tome, to some random iksar NPC somewhere. I myself got the Solid Black Tome, which had me getting a ground-spawn from the yeti caves in DL and handing it in to the Shaman guildmaster in Cabilis. Be wary though, there are a few of the Tomes that require you to do menial quests to get the items, such as the Mechanical Iksar Tail quest from Kwinn in Firiona Vie (yeah, the same guy you had to kill for the copper shackle) This is a pain for all of you who may remember how rare Kwinn was to spawn in the first place...

Once you have all three marks, hand them in to Veltar and presto, the Tynnonium Shackle.

For a great writeup on the shackle quests, including the Whistling Fists quest that continues after you have the Tynnonium Shackle, visit Monkly-Business.com and look at their guides.

Good luck, monks. This is one of the best monk quests SOE has come up with.
    Mark of Clarity
    # Dec 11 2003 at 5:27 PM Rating: Decent
When I did this quest I finished everything but in the end of the "Peace of Mind" quest I received a Mark of Clarity instead. I searched all over for this item but nothing was to be found. I took a risk and turned in all 3 marks to Veltar in DL and I did receive my shackle.

i just finished this quest 11/24/03 as a 42 iksar monk. for glox trial, just get temperance, some sort of haste, and if u want buy some ds potions. rinmark is a bit harder than glox.. glox took me to 85% using mend rinmark took me to 10% using mend.. i suggest getting maybe lvl 46 to get virtue and get some other buffs including the ones u got for glox. if u have over 200k gear u should be fine.. for last trial u have to head to kaesora (use eq atlas map ) and find tome keeper. give him shackle of steel and u will get a tome.. one of the first posts has a good site to see what ur riddle is... after that just hand all the stuff in and bam! shackle of tynnonium for u =D

as of 12/25/03 (yes christmas morning) I got the mark from Glox, but when I tried going to Rinmark he would not reply to the patience test command. did they nerf this to a lvl requirement?

did this quest from beginning to end in 13 hours, Human monk had turned in lots of veksar weps and a stack of explorer knives and am warmly. The foraging was the pain for me, had a druid friend help on that. Note that the penkeeper and iksar slave are now in FM and no longer in nurga.

When you hand in your Steel shackle to the Tomekeeper, he drops a random tome, and you have to read what is written in it to figure out whoat you need to get and who to turn both the tome and the item in to. This site has a list of the different tomes, what is needed, and who to turn them into, http://www.geocities.com/Kurrleeeci/ShackleGuideText.html

nm, i figured it out and now have my tynn. :)
you have to go up into LCY and down the stairs marked C on the Karnor's Upper Level or Main Level map at eqatlas.com which takes you to the catacombs map at C. go to the 2 in the lower left corner of the map. when you go up those stairs before the square room, turn around and there will be the large pouch (the ring) on the ground. helps a lot if you have a group in RCY who knows how to get those things out of the wall, but feign-flopping will get you there (eventually) regardless.

    There's a much easier way.

When you zone in, hug the right wall and go all the way to the back where you could enter the southern courtyard through the broken wall. Swim down and to the east and you'll end up in the underground tunnels. Turn around once you surface and take a right and an immediate left, this will take you to the hand with the item under it.
