After completing the first quest, Hierophant Oxyn sends you on a two part quest. The first part is to get two Cleansers of the Outland skulls and return them to him along with your Iron Cudgel of the Clairvoyant. He says when you have done this he will tell you where to get the next two skulls.

Skull with I is found on a stuffed giant barracuda in Lake of Ill Omen. In Warsliks Woods, a Rogue Shaman Spawns. He drops a Jawless Skull and a note. The note tells you about the barracuda. You need to go to Field of Bones and kill another rogue shaman to get the Mandible. The note also says that you can buy Mendglow Clay in Cabilis, but nobody can find a place that sells it. It can however be foraged in the Burning Woods by a master forager (with much effort). Take your Jawless Skull, Mandible and Mendglow clay and combine them on a potters wheel (make sure you have a decent pottery skill). Do NOT add water. The combination will result in Skull with II.

Turn Skull with I and Skull with II along with your cudgel of the Clairvoyant to Oxyn and get some xp, coin and an Iron Cudgel of the Seer (4/21). When you finish this, Hierophant Oxyn says, 'We are in your debt. You are truly one who shall collect all the lost ancient skulls. Take your weapon. Go to Hierophant Zand and he shall guide you further. Tell him you are [the chosen saviour.]

After completing the previous quest Hierophant Oxyn says the following line:

'Excellent! You have proven yourself worthy to wield the iron cudgel of the clairvoyant. As a clairvoyant, I feel I can trust you, so I will tell you that the issue of the missing skulls is a [much larger problem] than last stated.'

You say, 'Much larger problem?'

Hierophant Oxyn says, 'Many of the ancient skulls have been cast out of our temple. A hierophant was supposed to cast a special spell which was to protect the skulls from dust and decay. He cast some unknown spell which has sent many of our skulls to their original point of death. It would be most helpful if you would [assist in collecting the ancient skulls].'

You say, 'I will assist in collecting the ancient skulls.'

Hierophant Oxyn seems unsure of your prowess. 'Hmmm. First you shall go after the two skulls of the Cleansers of the Outlands. If you find them, bring them back unbroken and then I shall trust you. Hand me both skulls and your iron cudgel of the clairvoyant and I will know you are prepared.'

To obtain the first skull head out to Warsliks Wood and find a rogue shaman located at 2766, -3419. To reach this location quickly go through the Field of Bone entrance. Kill him and he will drop a Jawless Skull and a Tattered Note which reads the following:

"Shaman, I have sent another of your ilk to retrieve the mandible which was taken from us. He will meet up with you at Bone Ruin around midnight. When you have them, find a way to get some Mendglow Clay and a wheel from Cabilis so we can mend this skull. I am enroute to find the Giant Barracuda who swallowed the other skull at the lake."

Now you must find the other rogue shaman who is located in the Field of Bone. He doesn't seem to have a set placeholder, but can be spawned by killing monsters around the area between Kurn's Tower and Kaesora. Once you kill him you will obtain a mandible which you can combine in a pottery wheel along with the Jawless Skull and Mendglow Clay (foraged in Burning Woods) to create Skull with II (Pottery, 51 trivial).

To get the last skull you must find the giant barracuda mentioned in the letter, which is actually a stuffed barracuda located around the center of Lake of Ill Omen. will drop a Skull with I.

After obtaining both skulls, run back to Hierophant Oxyn in East Cabilis and turn in the skulls along with your Iron Cudgel of the Clairvoyant.
Hierophant Oxyn says 'We are in your debt, _______. You are truly the one who shall collect all lost ancient skulls. Take your weapon. Go to Hierophant Zand and he shall guide you further. Tell him you are [the chosen savior].'

You have gained experience.
Your faction standing with Scaled Mystics got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got better.
You receive 1 copper from Hierophant Oxyn
You receive 1 silver from Hierophant Oxyn
You receive 1 platinum from Hierophant Oxyn
And your Iron Cudgel of the Seer

hello, I just have a small rant here.

I am a master potter and when I went to combine the mandible and clay etc .. I failed! Now I have to go back and get the jawbone and clay again thanks to Verant's infinite wisdom of making it possible to fail anything even though it is trivial.

Thanks for the wasted time =/

The Rogue Shaman in Warslike Woods is at the first hut you come to from the FOB zoneline. Keep killing the Iksar that spawn and he will eventually pop.

LOCATION is: POS 2794 and NEG 2836
Or close to it.

I have read all the post here and in many other places. I have no idea how anyone could make the connection between what Heirophant Onyx says about the "Cleansers of the Outlands" and Rogue Shamans in Warslick Woods (and FoB) having the skulls or parts of the skulls needed to complete this quest. Out of curiosity I tried asking Heirophant Onyx hundreds of questions (like "what cleansers of the oulands" or where are the cleansers of the outlands) and he never responds. How does anyone get the connection to the rogue shamans from him? Thanks.

I have a lvl 6 shaman and have just started this quest. The connection to the rogue Shamans?

Here's my $.02:

The Rogue Shamans are not the Cleansers of the Outlands first off; they're dead, which is why we're after their skulls. Seemed a little confusion on that point.

Now, we already know a shaman heirophant screwed up the protection spell (on purpose?). Any proper shaman, finding those skulls, would have brought them back immediately. So, since they are not returned, they must be either 1) groundspawn (HA!), 2) on random creatures, 3) on renegade Iksar. Now, any proper iksar will kill a renegade iksar on sight, the scum. And a rogue Shaman! Any Shaman who ever hopes to be worthy of the Faceless One's terror would immediately kill one of those heretical creatures or die in the attempt. And when the right and proper Shaman does kill one... well, look here, they have a skull!

Short version: The connection is that they are rogue Shamans, ergo traitors to our guild and god, ergo particular targets of any true shamanic servant of Cazic Thule.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for all of the replys to my original post. I am sorry to say they have not answered my question. I have completed the cursed waffers and trilac brothers quest. I have initiated dialog with Heirophant Onyx and received his replies.

You say, 'What much larger problem'

[Tue Aug 21 11:28:01 2001] Hierophant Oxyn says 'Many of the ancient skulls have been cast out of our temple. A hierophant was supposed to cast a special spell which was to protect the skulls from dust and decay. He cast some unknown spell which has sent many of our skulls to their original point of death. It would be most helpful if you would [assist in collecting the ancient skulls].

[Tue Aug 21 11:28:25 2001] You say, 'I will assist in collecting the ancient skulls'

OK, so now how do I get him to tell me about Rogue Shamans??? How would I know that Cleansers of the Outlands = Rogue Shamans???

I know I have to go kill them, I know they are in FoB and WW, but how does anyone figure out "in game" that he is talking about Rogue Shamans??? I know I should just let it go, and hunt down the Shamans and the stuffed barracuda, collect the skulls (or parts of skulls), assemble them with mendglow clay, turn them in and be done with it. But for some reason, I feel like I should of been able to figure this "Cleansers of the Outlands = Rogue Shamans" connection out, it bugs me that I have not. Any and all replies are welcome. Thanks.

I have finished the cursed wafer quest, the 1st skull quest and have just got the jawless skull and manible from the rogue shaman's. The first rogue shaman I saw was just north of Kurn's tower in Field of Bone (dropped the mandible)...I just killed the other shaman today. He dropped the jawless skull and the note. I found him at the last set of ruins in Warslike Woods before you zone into Field of Bone. He must have a placeholder or spawns at certain times, because I have looked for him there before...and no luck. I just need to find some Mendglow clay and the other skull from the baracuda in LOIO.

I do have to agree with Slaynge on this point my friend. There are a number of postings you can find that state he has a certain spawn rate..and it is not very often. Happens with quests a lot or a certain section of the quest: spawns are rare. You must just get lucky and show up when he is around.
It is worth the wait though. Even though quest items are not always the best with stats, a huge part of the fun inside the game is doing them. Besides quests will lead to NPCs regarding you warmly...and that is always a nice feeling !

I was in the basement of SolA at the Gnome Merchant there and he was selling Mendglow Clay. (I was robbing a clockwork CX of it's beer) I don't know if this is always something he sells, I'll check again later. Now the only problem is either getting someone to buy it for a KoS iksar or getting your faction up with Gnomes...

Hiya, I have some Mendglow clay and was wondering what it was worth. I have no iksar shaman, mine's a necro and an SK. My 31 druid foraged the mendglow while escorting a friend through BW to get her to SF where my chanter was camped.
As the subject says, I'm on the Povar server with various characters. Email me at Countilien@aol.com if anyone wants it. I"d like to sell it but I'm not greedy. Well, not VERY greedy or I'd just give it away I suppose...

If I can remember I will check for you tonight. I killed the Barracuda last night with the help of a Ranger friend. So I have the mandible and will look at its description.

As for those who think these tedious quests are worthless, have you played Diablo II. The quest in that game are fast, easy and give you unrealistic weapons, and the game becomes boring after one week. I myself, and many others screwed up the enjoyment of this game by playing it way to quickly, and always expecting uber loot.

Not this time. I am taking it nice and slow with my Shammie and playing this game the way it was designed to be played. To be honest, I am having a blast just trying to do most of the Cabilis quests. Not only that, its fun to talk to people with alot of extra ssssss's in my speech.

MMORPG - Massive Multi-player Online ROLE PLAYING Game.

No where in there did I see GLOCC, Gimmee Loot or Cheat Codes.

Does anyone know if the skull you get from combining the 3 items is no drop? could you get a master pottery person to do it for you instead of risking doing it yourself?
RE: pottery
# Aug 05 2001 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
I don't recall if it was no drop, but I would recommend you do this part yourself anyways. The trivial level for the skull is pretty low. Even a master potter would have about the same chance of failure as you if it is trivial to both of you. (is there a way to improve the failure rate by having a high stat like WIS or DEX?) Also, you have to use the pottery skill with mendglow clay again on one of the later skull quests... number 5 I think. Not sure what level that trivials at.

Do you, or do you not have to turn in any Cleansers of the outland skulls.. and where do you find these? Also it says you have to turn these skulls in with your Weapon. If you do in fact have to turn these skulls in.. Does your weapon come back to you? and how do you fight if you dont have a weapon to get the other skulls! it doesnt make sense.. could someone explain it to me?

Notes on completed quest
# Jul 24 2001 at 4:53 AM Rating: Good
Here are my notes on completeing this quest. I had more than one opportunity to get all the items due to an error on my part, and the skill check for pottery... ouch. The nice thing about the items (and many of the items in all the skull quests) is that they are not NO DROP, so you can get help from friends or just buy the items.

Armed with all the details in these posts, it can still take 10 to 15 hours of game time. I'll try not to repeat previous posts too much, but at least point out updates to info. I did the quest solo at level 20 (and on into 21 a little bit). I was getting decent experience with some of the things that had to be killed (like Iksar manslayers), without having to worry about getting slaughtered. Lower levels will have to have some help.

Jawless Skull and note - LORE items - most straightforward part of the quest. Enter Warslik Woods from Field of Bone until you come to the first ruins. There are three Iksar spawn points inside--they can be brigands, manslayers, marauders, or the shaman. Pick them off one at a time to break the spawn. I rooted one in the building, ran and rooted another, ran close to the zone and picked off the last one. If the other roots wear off, you should be far enough away to keep from being followed. Keep the spawn clear and med between. Seen the shaman here three times--twice he popped right around 4 PM and the other time he was there when I showed up. Watch out because I saw him casting on the other Iksar there. Shaman is easy green, but with SOW and other spells best bet is to root and make a quick kill.

Skull with I - LORE item - This one took the longest to track down because searching for anything underwater is tricky. I didn't have much luck using sense animals while on the platform in the lake--all I came up with were the barracudas which conned red and would eat me for lunch! Both times I did find the stuffed barracuda, he was hanging right over the dome that is underwater (west of the platform). How I found him: Cast levitate, got between platform and western shore, circled around that area and cast sense animals, once found it I would cast enduring breath, kept casting sense animals as needed to keep going in the right direction, got up close enough to cast root, DD him to death. He was also an easy green, but it is good to make it a quick kill.

Mandible - LORE item - dropped by a rogue shaman in Field of Bone. There seems to be a window that Iksar's spawn--noon to midnight mostly. Any later, and I don't see as many spawn. So I killed every Iksar in sight until the shaman popped. I've seen the shaman three times and always just East of Kurn's Tower. Also had a friend try and use tracking to spot him, but it was a waste of time looking through the list of 50 things to choose from to track. It can be difficult to see him spawn if you are right up against the wall, so be sure to scout out a bit. Twice, I actually saw him pop at this spot and it was right around 4 PM--not at midnight like some people have seen or the note dropped by the other rogue shaman suggests. THe third time I spotted him he was wandering off to the east off into the hills. Since he is a shaman, he does cast SOW, drowsy, burst of flame, etc. As soon as I saw him I rooted and melee'd until dead. He's an easy green at this point. All three times he dropped the mandible. While do all this you can also get a start on the shaman epic quest. When the manslayers are killed a lesser spirit will spawn (every time?). You talk to him to get the quest started. It starts out just like the quest posted at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/quests/Shaman_Spear_of_Fate.htm but in a different zone obviously.

Mendglow clay - not lore or no drop, so get more than one. Boy did this part really suck. What is the point of having us forage around in a high-level zone for clay? Used some of the advice posted below to Burning Woods. Use levitate and SoW while hugging the southern boundary. Just a SoW and you are going to take a LOT of damage. You will still see plenty of things along the wall that can make it a bad day for you, so be alert. Once in Burning Woods, don't wander out past the end of the tunnel. In fact, don't even think about poking your head out because it will get whacked good like mine did =) I have only seen groups of people over level 50 in that zone. I died here, and also again trying to get my corpse. Resist the temptation to bind back at Cabilis or something far away. That will make getting the corpse even more painful since you are not running through any safe areas. I bound myself at each zone boundary. Now sit down, get a good book to read and forage away, it can take hours. The other people in the zone forage the stuff all the time, but you might have to wait just as long for them to come to you. Doesn't hurt to ask though.

Skull with II - made by combining mandible, jawless skull, and mendglow clay in pottery wheel. No other items like water are needed. It might be enough to put points into this (15 or more?), but I worked on clay jars until that was trivial around 35 or so. I think the skull is trivial by 15, but I'm only certain it was trivial at 35. Guess what? You can still fail the skill check. I did the first time and lost the mandible and clay, but got the jawless skull back as an 'alternate product'. Lesson -- get at least two pieces of mendglow clay when you are in Burning Woods.

Turn Skull with I and Skull with II along with your cudgel of the Clairvoyant to Oxyn and get the new cudgel. Looked like I got decent exp as well.

Hope that helps. I still have an extra piece of mendglow clay and an extra mandible. I won't be giving it away, but would be happy to sell the items. Give me a tell if interested. Off to camp the undead crusader!

If you have an extra mendglow clay left over, keep it. It's used again in one of the later Iksar Shaman cudgel skull quests. On the other hand, by that level you may think nothing of spending time in Burning Woods to forage.
Trivial
# Jun 01 2001 at 1:09 AM Rating: Default
I finally did this quest today - I've had the stuff a while (my main had the clay) so I got my stuff muled for me and the combining of the items was trivial to me at a skill of 19. So no one need fret that you need a high potter skill to get this accomplished. Hech if you've got the skill points to spend, just drop 15 or so into this skill and then go make your Skull II (easy as cake)

This quest is a very long quest. It took 5 hours to complete for my 24th lvl Shaman.

First I went to Warsliks. Camped the Rogue Shaman there for 2 and a half hours. This was the most time consuming part. He did spawn at 12 AM Norrath time. He did drop the skull and the note. Lower levels should be careful, the Manslayers that spawn here can be quite a handful.

Then off to the FoB. Arrived after 2 AM Norrath time and did not see the Rogue Shaman. Hunted Lesser Icebones and Lesser Charbones until nightfall. Then at nightfall I hunted and killed every Forsaken Iksar I could see. Don't know if he has a place holder or not, but exactly 24 Norrathian hours after the death of the Rogue Shaman in WW, this Rogue Shaman spawned halfway between Kurns tower and the grass, quick kill, and he dropped the jaw.

Then went to the Lake. Lev'd up over the lake and headed towards the platforms. Started casting sense animals over and over again. It took 5 minutes to find the Stuffed Barracuda. Two Frost strikes for 137 each and a poke with the Chokdai prod and it was dead. It dropped the Skull I.

Then to the Burning woods. Stayed in the tunnel from the Frontier Mnts., and foraged over and over again. Put out /ooc asking nicely that if anyone foraged some Mendglow if they would give it to me. A high level druid said the just foraged two blocks, but that they were on a raid and would deliver afterwards. In the meantime, I got one myself. Told the druid thanks anyways, and gated home.

Not wanting to ***** this all up, I trained in Pottery up to 67. Used this guide: http://www.geocities.com/shadowknight57/pottery1.html , paid 5 plat for all the materials to get to 67. Skill increases came very quickly. Plopped the Jawless Skull, the Jaw, and the Mendglow Clay on the pottery wheel and combined successfully. It said that it was trivial. I don't know when it became trivial though.

Good luck to all who work on these quests.

But where's the 2 parts to this quest? Don't you just collect the mandible, clay, jawless skull, and skull 2 and give them in with your cudgel? I read below that you have to turn in 2 skulls before that as well, and they come from Kurn's tower. I turned in two brittle iksar skulls from Kurn's (actually 4) with no luck, and I'm hesitant to throw in a cudgel. I've got all the parts for the other 2, but my god, I spent too long foraging for that stupid clay to risk it. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

P.S. Skusag's info was dead on.

If you look at the other newbie item quest series in Cabilis, you should notice a similar pattern. Eventually, around the 4th quest, the necromancer skullcap actually adds intelligence, a primary stat for that class. This also applies to the shadow knight khukri; eventually they add intelligence. Now, if this logic holds true, then the later cudgels may very well add wisdom, which is a good thing. If you'll look at the cudgels closely, you'll notice that they can be equipped in the range slot! So, if the later cudgels do actually start to add wisdom, and they remain equippable in the range slot, they could be immensely useful to any iksar shaman who stuck with the quests to get that far. There are precious few items that can go in that range slot and give you a few points of wisdom. I hope somebody out there completes all of these quests, so we can see if this really is the case.

Same with monk shackle quests, all shakles are not very good and just add AC until the last one which is very nice, but you need the previous shackles to do quest.
Mendglow Clay on sale

Smithy Xzatik, upstairs in the Warriors Guild in East Cabilis was selling Mendglow Clay. I have not returned to him to verify that this is a stock item, and not something that had been sold to him, but it appeared high up in his list, and I would assume it is stocked here.
RE: Mendglow Clay on sale
# Dec 18 2000 at 1:07 AM Rating: Default
No, this vendor is not selling the Mendglow Clay; it is not a stock item. Mendglow isn't valuable either, it only sells for 4 copper to a vendor.

The note says "...find a way to get some Mendglow Clay and a wheel from Cabilis..." -- so maybe only the pottery wheel is supposed to be in Cabilis, not the clay. Although this foraging step is a little ridiculous considering the level of the quest.
