Terren Starwatcher says 'Welcome friend! Have you come to the Temple of Tunare to give praise or are you a young Cleric [seeking guidance] from your elders?'

You say, 'I am seeking guidance'

Terren Starwatcher says 'Tunare shall be pleased to have a new disciple amongst her Koada`Dal children. We Clerics of Tunare offer spiritual guidance to the citizens of Felwithe and when needed aid the Paladins of Tunare and the Keepers of the Art in the defense of our people and forest from those [creatures] that seek to cause us harm. Every young cleric should pursue acquiring a [suit of armor] to protect themselves when aiding those in need outside of the safety of Felwithes walls.'

You say, 'I want a suit of armor'

Terren Starwatcher says 'You will need this Mail Assembly Kit to craft your Sylvan Initiate Armor. The materials required for the armor vary according to which piece you desire to craft. Once you have been suitably outfitted return to me and I will offer [further guidance]. Do you desire to craft [Sylvan Initiate Gauntlets], [Sylvan Initiate Boots], an [Sylvan Initiate Bracer], an [Sylvan Initiate Helm], [Sylvan Initiate Greaves], [Sylvan Initiate Vambraces], or an [Sylvan Initiate Breastplate]?'

You say, 'I want to craft sylvan initiate breastplate'

Terren Starwatcher says 'To assemble a sylvan initiate breastplate you will need to obtain four bricks of crude bronze and smelt them in a forge with a Water Flask and this Crude Breastplate Mold. Once that is done combine the Crude Bronze Breastplate with a Giant Sylvan Bat Fur, and two Mature Arborean Barks in the Mail Assembly Kit.'

Gumble!
# Feb 05 2004 at 11:55 AM Rating: Decent
These newbie quests are terrible! How in the world is an actual newbie ever going to finish this? It took me 3 days with a Ranger friend to track all I needed down. Arboreal sprout spawns, and Giant Bats, are absolutely atrocious, and even more frustrating is when they don't drop anything. There were times I spent hours running aimlessly around hoping we would find a single sprout on tracking. Same story with the Bats. What was SOE thinking when they made these quests? The worst part is the fact you get virtually no reward. The Armor is weak. I can tell you this, the only reason I finished the quest was because my stubborness wouldn't let me quit. I was one day in to collecting when I realized how much of a pain it was, and was too far to turn back. I hope the rest of you have better luck. I didn't discover anything that made the mobs spawn quicker.

I agree that it was a pain. It took me till level 18 to complete my whole ensamble of this armor. I did it more or less for the look and pride of having gone through the whole thing. I hardly wear it anymore. I moved on to the imbued elven chainmail that I can make. It is much lighter.
Recipe List for Sylvan Initiate Armor
# Jan 14 2003 at 3:31 AM Rating: Excellent
Just completed the entire set of Sylvan Initiate Armour. Took just under 10 hours of combined time spread over 3 days. It is now happily accoutered on my newbie Cleric.

The total recipe list is:
16 Bricks of Crude Bronze
6 Large Sylvan Bat Furs
5 Arborean Sapling Barks
4 Giant Sylvan Bat Furs
2 Arborean Sprout Barks
2 Arborean Sprout Roots
2 Arborean Sprout Twigs
2 Mature Arborean Barks

Bricks of Crude Bronze drop off of almost every other Orc Centurian or Lego in CB.

Large Sylvan Bats spawn all over the GFaydark zone, mostly in the newbie areas in front of Kelethin and Felwithe, but also in the north and western area. I found the drop rate for Bat Furs to be about 1 in 8.

Giant Sylvan Bats spawn mostly east and west of Orc Hill, but also in the northwestern area of the zone. I found the drop rates about identicle to Large Sylvan Bat Furs (about 1 in 8) but Giant Sylvan Bats appeared to be the rarer of the two.

Arborean Saplings and Mature Arboreans spawn east and west of Orc Hill along the same routes as Giant Sylvan Bats. I found the drop rates for Barks to be slightly higher than for Furs, perhaps 1 in 6.

Arborean Sprouts spawn mainly in the newbie areas in front of Kelethin (Newbie lift) and Felwithe. I found the drop rate for twigs, barks and roots to be the highest of the bunch; about 1 in 4 sprouts will drop something.

I found this quest well worth my time and effort and I highly advise any newbie clerics who are short on pps to hunt for these mobs.

my cleric quest

I have been working on just the giant sylvan bat furs for probably a total of 15 hours now, even with the help of 2 tracker friends. we have tried everything to get them to spawn...killing everything in site and though we got a total of maybe 50 to spawn in this time, no drops at all but batwings.
we even tried to see if night time played a factor and it didnt.
being a noob on my friends server, i am starting from scratch with nothing so i am determined, but I can tell you I am very frustrated and think they need to take a look at this

getting the twigs i think is about the other hardest thing though I can tell you while sitting on orc hill and just killing all other spawns (not the orcs) I had tons of trees spawn...even the matures and most of them dropped the mature, bark, etc ...so I would actually say getting them to spawn is one of the easiest things

and for those asking, killing the aborean trees does give awesome faction in the area

the time spent on the quests for the peices of armor are not worth it though if you are not starting from scratch as i am, IMHO

good luck
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 11 2002 at 4:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There is a trivial loot code in all zones now I do beleave. If you are to high to not get exp when one of these are killed, you will not get the desired parts your looking for. Best is to take your high character and grap a newbie. Tell them you will help them level if they kill this mob and let you loot the parts. Works best with a friend that you can trust.
Giant Bat Furs
# Dec 06 2002 at 12:32 AM Rating: Decent
Here is my story, might help other clerics out there trying to finish this.
Spent many hours trying to get the giant furs and never saw one drop on the bats i was lucky enough to find and kill. Tried a few different tactics and got some success tonight finally and was able to finish the quest. I noticed that if I killed the bats by using purely magic to get them down to less than one bub of health and then finished them of with a hit or two melee, the furs dropped on about 1 in every 2 bats. Dont know if this really made them drop but after killing them purely melee and never seeing one for at least 15 hours of play and then getting all 4 in the matter of maybe 2 hours doing this, makes me think....

Also found that at certain times, there would be no bats or arboreans even spawing for a long period of time. I noticed that after I went and killed all the orcs guarding the entrance into Crushbone, that they seemed to start spawning again near orc hill. Also dont know if this was conincidence but....

In summary, maybe killing these things with mostly purely magic makes them drop (may even be the case for the barks, twigs, roots etc.).

Hope this helps.

Ok, After many hours of camping Giant Sylvan Bats I was starting to wonder if they even existed! Alas I botted my boyfriends Ranger and started tracking them. Here is what I found...Tracking was getting me no where because they weren't spawning so I started killing all of one creature to see if something triggered the spawn and I found it! After killing Giant Wasp Warriors the Giant Sylvan bats would spawn almost immediatly. I was finding the warriors left and right on track. This may be a little tricky without a tracker in your pocket but I hope it helps some. This quest was hard to do even with the help of a ranger. They both spawn in the CB area, not on a fixed spot though. I hope this helps some frustrated clerics, I have finished all the peices now!

I am on Kane Bayle, I was wondering if the other servers were having bottle neck issues over the Giant Sylvan Bat furs and the days spent trying to obtain them.

That is the problem on all servers as usual Sony has taken a newbie fun quest and turned into a quest from hell. The giant bat furs and spout twigs are super rare drops. Heck my cleric will be level 40 before she completes the quests. Sony needs to start paying attention to the customers not all of us have hours to play the game and don't mind quitting to play a game that is more rewarding. You would think with all the money they have invested in equipment, staffing and such Sony would be more customer orientated.
Is quest over?

I've been trying to complete this quest...need Breastplate, boots, and Vambrace....have the rest.
But as of about three days ago, the guy you talk to isn't in the Cleric's building!

Did EQ pull the newbie armor quests??

Nope... the quests are happily running, however difficult it is to get FOUR GIANT SYLVAN BAT FURS!

*huff huff*

Sorry.
twigs
# Sep 18 2002 at 10:06 PM Rating: Decent
Does any one know what drops the arbordean sprits twigs? I can't find anything that does. the sprouts drop twigs but they wont combine for the breast plate. Also I can't find arborean sapling bark. I have killed about 12 arborean sapling trees and none of them dropped bark. They had nothing on them. I must be unluckly or something.

Thanks for any help.
RE: twigs
# Nov 10 2002 at 8:17 PM Rating: Decent
For the breast plate you need Mature Arborean bark, they can be found on the Mature Arboreans. As for finding the bark, for both items, it took me about four days to find two sapling barks. And even longer to find the Giant Sylvan bat furs.

In addition to this being a no-fail process, my Cleric actually got two Blacksmithing skill-ups doing the entire set of armor. Do not have a trivial for this FWIW.

In addition, the crude bronze seems to be an uncommon drop in the front area of Crushbone. However, camped Trainer Hill and picked up 9 crudes very quickly. Suspect back areas have similar drop rates.

Can you tell me who or what Trainer Hill is? I've been buying the stuff from the windmills in Steamfont.

In Crushbone, if you turn right when you come out of the entrance tunnel, there is a large hill. On top of this hill spawns an Orc Trainer and a bunch of Centurions (8, I think). This is Trainer Hill. One of the original camps, as the Trainer sometimes drops a Shiny Brass Shield, which is nice for a lowbie.

Smelting refers to the process of refining usable metal from ore. In this case, he's just telling you to stick all the components in a forge and combine them. And don't worry, you don't need any Smithing skill to succeed.
arborean drops
# Aug 13 2002 at 9:26 AM Rating: Decent
I have completed the gauntlets, bracers, breast plate, helm, and , boots. I still need the leggings and arms. I have noticed somthing... or maybe I haven't, I dont know. It seems that the saplings spawn when lots of orcs are being killed in the orc camps by the entrance to CB. Arborean sprouts seem to spawn by the ton close to Kelethin when lots of noobs are killing in the zone close to the ruins. Have any of you noticed a similar pattern? I know other quested items required the killing of certain mobs in succession to get a specific item. hmmmmmm......
Forge?
# Jul 30 2002 at 12:11 PM Rating: Decent
is it me or is the only forge in Felwithe the Cult forge, which cant be used in this quest? Had to go to Kelethin to find a forge...
RE: Forge?
# Sep 16 2002 at 8:01 AM Rating: Decent
You are correct, the only forge in Felewith is the cultural (Koada'Dal) forge. The kelethin forge is one platform up (a diagonal ramp to the right) from the newbie lift (the lift closest to Felewith)

I don't know if it's a recent addition, but there is now a regular forge in Felwithe next to the cultural forge.

It's very handy being right across from the bank so you don't have to lug around all that heavy bronze.

Just finished quest and here's some info:

Sylvian Initiate Breastplate
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP
Slot: Chest
AC: 12
Str +3 Wis +5
WT: 5.0 Size: MEDIUM
Class: CLE
Race: HIE HEF

This breastplate along with the rest of the armor looks almost exactly like Bard Singing Steel armor...in other words it has a very light-green tint.

I found that the Mature Aboreans and Giant Sylvan Bats spawn mostly in the northern part of G-Fay. Their items that you need seem to drop 1/4 to 1/3 of the time. I found the bricks of crude bronze on Orc Legionnares in Crushbone about 1/3 of the time.

Overall, nice breastplate for any lowbie cleric just starting out.

Heh, I finished it about 10 minutes after she did. BP is better than my Crystal Covered Shroud, so I'm wearing it at lvl 24. I submitted a pic, should get updated in today.
