Start off by obtaining yourself a Summoned: Wisp Stone (summoned by Mages) and an Essence Emerald (created when a Necromancer sacrifices a 45+ player). Then head to Akheva Ruins and kill the Sacrificed Remains inside the Sacrificial Pit. They are PHs for "A Shimmering Presence" and have a respawn time of about five minutes.

You say, 'Hail, A shimmering presence'

A shimmering presence's voice invades your mind, drawing images of past present and future together into a perverse harmony. Some images you recognize as your own, but the others seem to be coming from the spirit's own [memories].'

You say, 'What memories?'

A shimmering presence begins to glow a bit brighter. Your mind is filled with visions of a great swirl of clouds and lightning. You can almost feel the wind of the storm creeping into the chinks in your armor. It looks as if the storm is creeping across the surface of Luclin. You see several figures standing at the entrance of a [great temple]. The storm seems to be bearing down on them.'

You say, 'What great temple?'

A shimmering presence continues to flood your mind with images of the storm bearing down on the temple. Your view suddenly shifts. You're still looking at the storm, but it appears to be moving toward you this time. There is a creature beside you wearing a robe, holding a scepter in one of his...four arms! He is obviously the leader of the group, As he is wearing beautiful [ornate robes] compared to the rest of the four armed figures around you.

You say, 'What ornate robes?'

A shimmering presence glows brighter still as your vision turns to follow the robed figure up the stairs of the entrance to the temple. The figure raises his scepter toward the storm and begins to recite some unfamiliar words. A crackle of magical energy blazes across the sky seemingly in defiance of the raging storm. The energy quickly dissipates however, and the storm continues to bear down on the temple. The figure cries out in pain as the scepter in his hand shatters into many shards. The sofly glowing gem from the scepter head rolls silently down the steps and disappears.

Hand over the Summoned Wisp Stone.

A shimmering presence begins to quiver and shake. The formless entity appears to grow and shrink in complete disregard to natural laws. The light in the temple around you appears to slowly dim until you are surrounded by an impenetrable cloak of shadows. Fear grips your heart as your vision slowly adapts to accommodate the low light. When you can finally make out the figure before you, you find yourself silently praying for the darkness to return.
You gain experience!!

Once you give him the wisp stone, he will despawn and turn into The Spirit of Akelha`Ra.

You say, 'Hail, The Spirit of Akelha`Ra'

The Spirit of Akelha`Ra 's hollow eyes look up at you. You have the distinct impression that she can see right into the darkest shadows of your soul. She opens her mouth to speak but the sounds you hear come from inside your mind. 'Greetings mortal, thank you for releasing me from my [tormented prison].'

You say, 'What tormented prison?'

The Spirit of Akelha`Ra appears to be fading in and out of existence as you speak to her. The spirit's voice fills your mind. 'I am Akelha`Ra, once high priestess of Luclin and leader of the Akheva. This form you see before you now is a fading remnant of my former existence. The storm was the cause of my imprisonment in the world of undying [spirits].'

You say, 'What spirits?'

The Spirit of Akelha`Ra says 'We Akheva are immortal entities placed in this plane by the mistrees of shadow. We are her most perfect creation. Death has no meaning to us, as even in death we find rebirth through the power of the mistress. My imprisonment was caused by my seperation from the power of the mistress by [Atenha`Ra]. It was she who sent the storm to destroy me and all that followed me.'

You say, 'Who is Atenha`Ra?'

The Spirit of Akelha`Ra says 'It is more then a little ironic that Atenha`Ra is a reflection of myself. An entity created from my own consciousness, a reflection of a shadow. She now holds the seat of grand power in [Vex Thal], and I have not the power to gain entry to the city, let alone face her. You must find my scepter that was lost in the storm to gain entry to Vex Thal. The scepter has likely lost much of its power from being shattered. Once it is reassembled you will need to merge a Orb of Luclinite with a source of celestial power inside the scepter. The spirits whisper that the emperor of the Shissar holds the power to manipulate such energy. Be weary of him, he is heralded as the slayer of gods, the defiler of realities.'

You say, 'What of Vex Thal?'

The Spirit of Akelha`Ra says 'Vex Thal is the sacred home of the Akheva. The place where Luclin's power directly touches this world...ungh...I can not summon the frame of my scepter in my current weakened state. I need a soul to regain my pow...' As she speaks you can see her slowly fade out of existence. You wonder how long her spirit will stay with this world. She seems entirely unable to speak to you now, and can only muster the strength to point at the ground at ______'s feet. ______ reaches down a picks up a small emerald off the ground, but it disappears silently into the shadows. Akelha`ra looks as if she is trying to speak again.'

Quickly give her the Essence Emerald.

WARNING : at that point, do NOT say, 'What frame of your scepter?' or the spirit poofs and you will have to get another wisp stone and start over. All you would get is:

The Spirit of Akelha`Ra opens her mouth to speak, but the voice in your head is no longer audible. You reach forward to touch the fading shadow of a creature and draw back in horror as your hand disrupts the spirit before you. She evaporates into the shadows once more.

The Spirit of Akelha`Ra laughs quietly as the energy of the gem is absorbed into her being. She begins to chant in what you presume to be Akhevan. She suddenly cries out in pain and her image begins to flicker. She looks at ______ directly in the eyes and says, 'Vyanemis Tuis, use my gift wisely.' She disappears into the black marble leaving only a dark scepter frame lying on the floor. ______ picks it up.

Receive Shadowed Scepter Frame, 10-slot container.

You now need to gather together 10 Lucid Shards. These identify as different letters, and are thus each unique. They identify and drop as follows:

  • Dat - Fungus Grove from Shik`Nar Warriors and Royals, confirmed from:

    • A Soriz Corpse

Combine these in the Scepter and you will create your Unadorned Scepter of Shadows. In the new container, you will need to combine the Planes Rift (obtained from Shissar Wraiths that spawn following Emperor Ssraeshza's death) and a Glowing Orb of Luclinite (dropped from various high end Luclin Mobs).

Upon combining those items, you'll create a Scepter of Shadows, which will get you into Vex Thal. Each member of the group must have a key to enter.

AC Shard Post Revamp
# Apr 26 2003 at 10:02 AM Rating: Decent
Ok - Here's the scoop on Acrylia. Everyone knows where gate is where shards used to drop. Just past gate is a platform with skellies, through that hallway you turn right go in a door and click on a statue that ports you into "inner ac" May want to take someone who can port cause I dunno the way out. There and around that area you will find mobs that are dark blue to 65 and shard drop is common.

Hope this helps!!

On the upper level where the sacrificial cauldron is, across the room from where you come up the steps, there is a carpet on the wall that you click to get out of the zone.

AC Shard
# Apr 25 2003 at 8:50 PM Rating: Decent
Acrylia Caverns was changed

If anyone has new info on what mob now drops shard and it's location then please post it.

Currently I'm pulling stuff to the gate area to kill. Pulling mobs that are past the gate as well as mobs back towards zone. The only thing I have come across as of yet was "a grimling blodmage" conned light blue at level 65 and dropped some descent gloves for twinking and some book.

I forget name of gloves but stats are something like:
Ac 16 +5str +5sta +5dex +5agi +25hp +25mana

Can't remember if gloves had resists or not, but I think that is what stats were.

right when you zone into AC there are a bunch of mobs that were lb to 63, and sitting on the zoneline(how nice of SOE) there is a dark blue mob, who can and did drop lucid shard for me the first time I killed him.
AR Shard since the patch of 4- 23?

Anyone verify what this drops off of since the patch? I heard it changed

I hear people refer to a 'frame'. How is this acquired? I'm unclear how this fits into the quest (as outlined above).

Thanks :)

The frame is the 10-slot container you put the shards in. You get this after you give The Spirit of Akelha'Ra the Essence Emerald.

Shards drop (rather commonly) from "a stone beast" and possibly the other stonegrabber-type mobs in the zone. Very easy to spawn, walk around invis around the whole zone zig-zagging between rocks until they pop, and just kill whichever ones you choose. I'm not so sure about how nice that revenant camp is because of I've never bothered to kill them, but I've left many a shard to rot while killing the stone beasts all around the zone.

ME and FG are the hardest shards, Deep drops alot its just the getting to the mobs, most of the mobs are ok xp, nothing great, but hey at least its xp, as a 65 war, it easyer if you duo for most, the royals in FG have a bit of hp for a war to solo, but for the most part, Average is about 45min - 2 horus per shard, so if you group with 4 peeps and you wait around for eveyone to get a shard maybe up to 8 hours at a camp, maybe as little as an hour and a half, and sometimes you just get unlucky, my FG shard i camed with 5 peeps took us 23 hours to get 5 shards, and my ME shard took 15 hours with 3 people camping it, so sometimes you get lucky get 2 in an hour and someties you get LONG spans without them, but dont even bother doing it unless you guild can kill emp, unless you gunan recruite for an uper-end guild that requires VT key, if you have all but emp rift most guilds are fine with that.

AR is easy with a monk, a slower and any type of healer (if all 3 hi enough levels...you can just have shammy too, to heal and slow) just beware the pathing. The Pathing here is attrocious. Easiest camp i have seen is a small alcove with one little alien guy, just to the left of the tunnel to Va Dynn. You can pull a shade golem (rubble rouser?) out of the left room at the far north end of zone, just to watch him run all over the place tryiong to get to you (thus agroing quite a few HTing mobs in the process). When pulling, just make sure to hug the wall area just outside of that room and the golem will do the same. Relatively safe pull spot, got as many as 4 shards in 30 minutes, but as few as 2 in 4 hours, totally random, but not a bad camp at all.

confirmed, got one of mine off a lil teeny rock dude.

Also, the Seru shard drops off valoriann guardians(?) by the legionarres so jut kill all mobs up there, any can drop it.

Vex Thal Key

Just a tad more info on some of the shards

ME there are several stones and trees with scouts standing around them, you can do these to get the shard too, my favorite spot are the ones if you follow left wall past ahkeva ruins entrance, still need to FD split em or mez at lvl 61 but you avoid train and ks central stone near dsp. Soloable for a 61 sk but i recommend duo 9 hrs campin tho

Grey Lake is a fun camp and they dont dispell so any enduring spell will work, these guys are pretty big undead skellies hit for 100+ and double soloable at 61 pretty good xp and cash took 21 skellies for shard to drop

Acrylia caverns. *changed* seems there was a change that the shard is now a common drop after you enter the acrylia castle thingy, gotta click the statue past the gate to get in.

Scarlett Desert in middle of zone is a large plateu with sun revenants on the top, dropped easy to 61 sk with pet and took more time to run out and back then get shard to drop maybe after 6 or so.

Santus Seru if your a melee like me you will need a healer unless you are already ubah, and they hit fairly hard too ideal here is 3 people, healer, melee, chanty/shammy dropped after an hr or so 15 or so hands and the harder assassin types

Fungus Grove: Recommend group of 4 doing the lvl 60 shiknar warriors, clear priest first then do warriors and if you can (and you really should) pull the royals (pallies wave LoH etc) because the chitin legs and belts still sell nice (on brell anyways) i did this camp for like 6-7 hrs with 65 rogue 61 sk 62 cleric 60 chanty and we could keep clean the 4 warriors priest and 2 royals (had to FD split royals, in royal cavern are like 15 clerics shiknars that CH and are green so wont add on pulls) Warlord spawned and screwed my spawn cycle on both trips down, his drops are crap id rather he had royal drop table just a bigger mean warrior mob. took 6 hrs but i think we were unlucky i hear 1 - 2 hrs usually per shard

DSP - Soloable in caves there the simbatu seem to drop FAR less often then rockhoppers. simbatus around 4 hrs rockhoppers around 1 or 2 hrs

The Deep - Definately check a map before you go in and definately bring more then 3 people (i brought a 63 sk (me) 61 chanty (2nd box) 54 cleric and the fight in was a pain the tuckus because the dps was so low, not that we had a problem with back spawns but these things have alot of hps for the green/lightblue cons to a 63 sk). Additionally Young Thought horrors wont drop shards(well o/50), i tried doing a camp before the pit for 4 hrs and had no shards, so deciding to brave the pit (my sk took leap of faith immediately falling to his death) somehow the cleric got down to the bottem (there are no spawns at the bottem) rezed me, and on the north end of the pit up the wall there is a ramp leading up to the far side you can invis in past the shreikers all the to the left of the illusion bridge where more thought horrors are and start the fight in took only 7 horror kills before a shard dropped, thanx to the bard from Errants of Deorc for the info... Also if your feeling brave you can wake of tranqulity, pacify invis you way to bridge if you dont want to deal with 200+ dmg dealing greens

Akheva Ruins - (Confirmed) Shaded Stones do drop the shard. There is a trap on the left hand side of the entrance which either spawns shaded stones or aggros 3-4 stones from the hallway. To get there from zone in invis up, go straight through the fallen column room, then through the hallway on the far side (stay on the left wall to avoid worm traps) Until you get into the antechamber to the rock room (some broken slabs on the floor that are flat) Go into the corner with the centi dator and smack him up, hes on a long timer approx ~15 mins. then move to the broken shard standing straight up near the rock hall, this either triggers a trap or aggros 3 or 4 shaded rocks. move back a few steps and fd and usually 1 sticks around to hump yer apperantly dead leg. Shard dropped of 3rd shaded stones i killed duoed this with 63 sk 61 chanty (4/23/03)

SSRA - Zone in to ssra temple (invis up) go straight through the door under the ramp though the 2 sets of doors at the first T go right at the 2nd T go left (i think thats the way) and fall the hall as it wraps back around to a tube that goes down. Once down turn to the right and through the arch on the wall you will see a mining cart and entrance to the mines. (watch for warden he sees through invis unslowable etc) I brought a near full group for this (5) with the hope of knockin this shard out quick, but it took 5 hrs of campin and we didnt get it to drop till we moved back where the named are.. Luckily while in there i also got my peice for my bane weapons off some a random named (his only drop). Alot of the skellies are sks/shammies, and while in 5 hrs i only got hit with slow 2x both times sucked. Single pulls without pacify are difficult but a 63+ group can handle 3-4 at a time easy and 5-8 arent bad if your not duel boxing, none that i met see through invis vs undead.. Eventually I got mine off a Soir Corpse or some such thing.. Only other named drop of intest is a 10 ac 10 cha 15 int 50 hp mana 7 to all saves shoulder item for chanties who have deities, both the mob and the item (Cloak of Faith) seemed static off the guy kunzar something or other (or within seeing distance of him) or maybe its his common. Fun stuff.. Also a resist jacket Skin of the mind flayer or something 5 to all but disease which is 20.

This shard can be soloed. Go to the entrance of the shiknar mine, and invis in, just keep going until you see 4 shiknar warriors. Setup camp right behind them and root dot the warriors, one at a time. There assist radius is VERY small, almost as small as a mob that has been pacified. Kill a priest first cus it will heal the others. (don't dot it to fast or it will just heal itself)

They have a good amount of hit points but are easy to kill, just be careful of getting to close to the solders in the corriders behind and to the side.

Sure a warrior can't solo em, but a warrior with a necro, druid, or shaman friend can just have them kill it. :P

After reading up on this quest I must say that it really sux to not be in an uber guild to get the keys. Unless I leave my current guild I will probably never set foot in VT, which really blows. The only thing I have ever wanted to do in EQ was to visit every single zone, and have some fun exploring things on my own. Sigh, well I guess I will keep plugging away at it and eventually try to get into an uber guild.
RE: This is the hardest key quest ever

yes to get into VT is very difficult, all of the lucid shards are either soloable or group doable but will need a full raid force for the luclin named for the glowing orbs, and you'll need an uber guild to kill emp ssra. Good luck

Aye, it has been awhile since I posted that message. The shards themselves are not too bad to get at level 52 with some friends. I already have my grey and sd shards, and had a blast getting them. I can easily forsee getting all of the other shard pieces with my friends without too much trouble, but obtaining the actual key is gonna require alot more force. I have had alot of fun going after the pieces with my friends, and have seen a few zones I would probably never have set foot in if it wasn't for this quest. And now that I have gained quiet a few levels, I think this quest is doable by any level 60+ char. Hopefully by the time you are 60+ you have made some friends and/or in a guild that is capable of going the emp. Or can go with another guild that is going after the emp. Hehe, the key is the easy part, fighting in VT is another story altogether.

Yes, it blows not having the strength to finish, but consider... You can accomplish a majority of the key (and exp!) with the friends you have. Some of the zones are quite exciting. Getting the shards and the frame and making the combine for the final container is a huge feat. Many people quit farming shards and go back to grinding exp, but if you make it a goal, staged over time, you can have fun visiting each of the zones in turn.

It gives you a purpose, a reason to cover all of Luclin in your travels.
Do it anyway.

Boss mobs?
# Nov 22 2002 at 6:22 PM Rating: Default
How many of the mobs that you have to take down, if any, require a "raid force"? I notice a lot of the mobs seem to be "group mobs" - i.e., killable in your typical grind group.
RE: Boss mobs?
# Mar 05 2003 at 9:18 AM Rating: Default
Rhag1 is also doable by one group. I wouldn't recommened taking a random pickup group after him, but if you have some talented friends (and he is up, rare on some servers) I'd give him a try as well.
RE: Boss mobs?
# Apr 09 2003 at 8:11 AM Rating: Default
Rhag 1 is quite easy. However with 1 group, it will take forever because of his regen. Lowest I've done rhag 1 with was with 10, 2 clerics. Took around 15 mins, had room respawn on us in the process, but killed him none the less.

Boss mobs are BOSS MOBS. They require more than one group.
Itraer Vius, Thought Horror Overfiend, that sort of thing.
My guild took some mobs out with 2-3 groups, but it takes effort,
not a sleep walk. You have to dress for the occasion. =/

Though I've heard that Va'Dyn can be taken down by a VERY well equipped single group of post-60s.

Then again if the power levels in this game keep climbing, I expect to hear that a naked cleric with only their post-post-post-post epic soloed the Avatar of War.

A poorly-equipped group of 65s can handle Va`Dyn. It'll just take an hour.

I heard a rumor that only one key was needed per guild, and that you could "hold the door open" for people. Can anyone confirm or deny? That seems just a tad crazy, but given the difficulty of the quest, possible.

Ok, i'm currently camping my shards and i've noticed that alot of that information is wrong.

1) There are only 2 skullcrackers that drop shards. They are the 2 skullcrackers right infront of the gate. In order to get to the gate, take a right once you zone in, walk straight and take the 2nd left. That will take you right to the two skullcrackers that drop the shard.

2) It is listed in the bestiary that "The Legionnaire of the Hand" mobs are around lv 45. This is complete bs. They are all at least lv 50 and they hit hard, real hard. They put ills knights to shame = P thats how hard.

3) Once again, related to the bestairy, the Sun Reavers and Revenants are not lv 55, they are like lv 45-50. Very ez to kill and drop the shard often. *NOTE this is for the Scarlet Desert ones only, I have not camped my The Grey shard yet. I will post as soon as i do.

4) The emperror now triggers 3 mobs that drop 8 no-drop pieces(Planar Rifts) for the VT key. The emperror does not drop 40 no-drop celestial rifts = P Oh and these mobs have like 1 hp each so its not another encounter after u kael the Emp.

More Reports to come = )

In Acrylia Caverns the Runed Grimlins also drop shards. They spawn right by gate so you wont have to camp elsewhere. Dawnshroud, Scarelet Desert are the easiest 2 to get. In Seru zoning from Dawnshroud, go to the end of the hall, take a left, you'll see a portal that takes you to the second floor. Shards are there with an easy drop rate. A group of 4 60's can do easy, with a Chanter/Cleric. The 2 most dificult, assuming you have a guild to help with Emp key in order to get the Rift (from spawns after Emperor) and the Orb (from various named in Luclin) is the container in Akheva (good luck on just getting back there) and the Shard in Maidens Eye ( drop rate is horrible). In Maidens Eye shards will only drop from a Seer that spawns where all the Scouts spawn. Dont know about Ssra other than you need at least 2 groups to handle mobs of up to 10 skellys at a time. My last shard then I have my key, hehe.

Just to clarify on the sun revenants. Yes the ones in Scarlet Desert are much less then level 55. The lev 55 ones are the ones in The Grey. They are a giant skeleton mobs and are a totaly different mob with the same name for some reason. Hope that helps.

1. Yes we got one shard from the Tribal Mobs, but from what I hear they are really really rare of them. Not that the Rockhoppers drop them always but more often than the Tribals.

2. ME Shard. run straigt out toward the ruin building from the DS zone. If facing the ruins there is a big rock on the corner of the ruins and 3 or 4 scouts spawn there. Kill them, we looted 2 shards in an hour off the Seers that randomly spawn after killing scouts. We spent 3 hrs the day before there was only one seer that spawned and no shard on him.

3. Akhevia Shard. You can inviso in , Go straight to the second Big Circle room. There is a mob in the corner on the left and the right. We killed the one on the left (spawns every 23 mins) and camped there. Pulling the Rock Mobs to
us, 2 Shards in 2 hrs. In the Hall after the 1st big room with the fallen pillar there is a trap on the left side, becareful to hug the right wall to get around it. A friend said that he did get 2 shards off the trap of worms so bring an enc if you chose to pull those about 6 of them come out of the trap at once.

4. The Grey Shard. 6 Skellys around the lake, just start killing them, they have alot of HP's so you will need a group. You can follow the wall and you will see the lake. Camp on the wall and pull to you. Or the hill opposite the wall but you get some adds from trains sometimes. We did about 4 or 5 rounds and then the shards started dropping, 5 shards in about 2 hours after the dry spell.

5. Acrylia Cavern, what a pain in the butt that was. You will need a group,(I have a clan war, druid & Enc) and enlisted the help of a cleric. The Ruined Skullcracker is high MR and cant be slowed or mezd, but druids fire and ice hit if tashed. Grimley skullcrackers are still tough but not near as mr as the Ruined. Just keep killing them they will drop a shard sooner or later.

6. FG Shard. The blue bugs in the back, not by the Twilight Zone, down below in the tunnel. They are social so unless you kill them you are not kos, you can run down in there and prolly have to gate out, cuz you will be kos in the end. The big ones that you need have alot of hps, we had a full group and a half, YOU will need 2 clerics and at least 3 tanks. We went all the way to the back and camped on the wall side of the lake till we got them split. They are not mezzable so you need to split tank them and some come with an advisor ( their personal healer) which you can mez with Glamor. We were there 3 hrs and no shard. Alot of pants and belts :)

6. Sanc. Seru shard. if you zone in from ME, go straight down the hall and on the left and the right is a portal that you click to get upstairs. Just start killing the NPC's in the hall and in the cubbie holes. We got 2 shards in less than an hour. You will kill your faction there. Any Legionair will drop them, not just the Leg of the hand. Some of them will add if they see you fighting, some dont. But they are mezable. I did this with my clan only 3 ppl but it was slow :)

Good Luck to all :)

1) There are two static spawns at the gate(in acrylia). What ever spawns at the gate can drop a shard, not just the skullcrackers(just got my shard from there today).

2) ALL legionnaires drop shards! Not just Legionaires of the hand.

3) Camping shards Sux = P

hah, Pre PoP we trio'd FG shard with 60 Ranger 60War 60 Cleric. I slowed. They are soloable if u pull right. They hit slow and weak and very low MR. I rooted them NP if we did get an add.

If u get on second floor of Seru by going thru the warp right at the end of the tunnel from Zone in its pretty easy. I (60 Ranger)was not KoS and duo'd with a 60 War Pre-PoP for this shard. The Pathers did not agro us and 1 shard even droped off a non-Legoniare. Had a differnt name. Forget what it was. So just got up there with a friend of yours that can slow, its cake. I used Epic to slow (before i got Primal) and had lil down time

Well Good luck,

you say all Legionaires drop the shard? Not just the Legionnaire of the hand? Do you mean the ones with the names? like Legionnaire Faieaie, Legionnaire Fenstra, Legionnaire Fircka, etc, etc, etc ??

Also, do the Tribal mobs also drop the shards like the rockhoppers do? It's not listed, but I was told they do. Can anyone confirm?

Side note: Shard in grey can drop off named rockfiends as well as the regular boulder fiends spawned from the rock traps.

FYI...I have been hunting in Katta killing guards at the bank and up top at the church and I've seen 4 Lucid shards drop off cents (never the legos). The one I looted identified as Kelera. I spammed the zone for others to loot them once I realized what they was cause I got no use for them being a someone who has no wish to bother with the quest. Conversly I've never seen them drop off the Legos in Seru. Could be that they drop in both places?

Vex Thal Key
# Aug 01 2002 at 2:15 AM Rating: Decent
As noted in the top but easily missed, in order to do this you have to a) get a ton of emperor keys (which is very very time consuming). Then you have to go farm ore in the mines like crazy for the fricking corrupted shissar weapons. Then after all that you have to kill all the luclin bosses to get enough orbs of luclinite (you will probably get these anyway while outfitting your guild to make them emp capable), the shards are the LEAST of your worries when it comes to vex thal.

I'm glad they made this change, it sucks to gear up for emp with keys + weapons and then kill emp only to have others enter vex thal with only collecting the shards and an easily obtained orb of luclinite.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 24 2002 at 11:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They changed what they did in todays patch because people on Stormhammer were selling the completed Vex Thall key for RL money. In case you don't know, you can create a character on SH, buy the shard, and petition a GM to get sent to the server of your choice, and give the item to your main, rendering the largest time sink in the game unnessary for anyone with the RL money. I think this is one of the better things Verant has done recently. /cheer.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 24 2002 at 12:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Since you have to kill the Emporer to finish and at least on Drinal server Cats in Hats is always camping it, for get this quest.
Really the Vex Thal key quest?
# Jul 24 2002 at 6:33 AM Rating: Default
In todays patch message they say something about celestial rifts being replaced by planar rifts....
But in this quest listning this item is not used, so is this really the quest or just a hoax?

Was just about to ask that. What's up with all this **** in the new patch message
"The Vex Thal key quest has been changed slightly. Celestial Rifts will no longer be used to create the key - a new item replaces them called a Planar Rift. Planar Rifts are acquired by defeating the same creature as before, however all future Rifts are going to be No-Drop.

A Celestial Rift can be placed in a forge by itself and 'combined' to create a Planar Rift. Please be aware that the new Planar Rifts are No-Drop, and should only be converted in a forge by the intended owner. Old-style Celestial Rifts may be converted into the new Planar Rifts for a period of one month from this patch. If you have any rifts currently, be sure to convert them to the new style within 30 days.

This change is not intended to make it more difficult or time consuming to acquire your Vex Thal key. Many players had brought forth concerns regarding the ability to hoard Celestial Rifts, which had the potential of causing some long-term issues. This fix addresses those concerns, and does not add any difficulty for players currently working on this quest."
- 7/24/02 patch message
So, wtf do those items fit into this quest?

I wonder if the Emperor is now going to drop 40 NO DROP spheres instead of the scepter that summons them?
Also in The Grey

In The Grey, I've seen the shard drop from Boulder, the named Rockfiend.
