Looks like the best straight up kill-mobs-for-faction farming would be in Veeshan's Peak... however, that is a raid zone and all mobs there have way more HP than their /consider would make you think. Also there is raid timer delay on fast mana/HP recovery :-( .

What is the minimum standing required to get the quest?
I did spell turnin as indiffrent. Duno if that is minimum tho.

Got 4 minion pets in a row when doing turn in in the overthere. Turned in 4 convergence spells and scribed the last one. Perhaps this is the one needed for the pet spell?
I have turned in TWENTY (20) spells so far, and have not gotten a single Minion of Shadows. Right now I have 10 Scent of Terris, 6 Sacrifices, and 4 Shadowbonds. This is getting ridiculous and I am starting to believe I am either extremely unlucky, or this quest is screwed up. Has anyone done this quest recently and actually received Minion of Shadows? I would of just bought the spell from Bazaar long ago, but I have not seen it for sale for over a week now. I've been buying all the Splurts/Defoliations/Thralls/Convergences that I can find and have spent thousand of plat just for this one stupid spell!
Wow, so about 10 hours after I posted all that and I've come home from work, I get 2 spells from the Bazaar (Thrall of Bones and Defoliation) and I go to turn them both in, praying I will finally get Minion. I turn one in after another, and I get TWO (2) Minion of Shadows in return. I must have just been on a really bad streak or something, because it took me 22 different spell turn-ins to finally get the pet spell, and I got two in a row at the end. I guess it still is just the luck of the draw on what spells you get in return, so if you are having trouble getting the spell you want, just keep at it.

The first time I tried to turn in a spell to him, I was attacked before I got there.
The second time, I went in invised. I found him where he was supposed to be. I dropped invis and hailed him, but rather than responding to my hail, he attacked me, and the rest of the guards rushed in and soon put an end to me and my pet.
I'm a lvl 53 Drakkin Necromancer. I thought I was evil enough to turn in a spell, but maybe not. If I can't do this quest for a new pet, where am I supposed to get one?

Make a lvl 1 Darkelf who does the hand in. Also you should be aware, that this pet is a rogue pet, and has a lot less hp then your last pet, on the other side it adds some backstab damage to its DPS.

Xp gained was not even enough to notice on my blue bar.
For two splurt and two thrall of bones, I received sacrifice, minion of shadows, and two shadowbond'. For my next set, which I didn't make a note of, I recieved two scent and two shadowbond. For defoliation and thrall, I received two shadowbond. Finally, for a copy of thrall, I received sacrifice.
I'm satisfied that it's random, but I'm not sure whether some are more common than others.

First off, here's a small correction to the description above, you can turn in any one of the four spells, not all four as a set. By saying 'and' i thought you had to trade all four in as a set to get one spell. Vaean says 'or' which means any one of the four.
Next, it appears to be a totally random spell that he gives you in return. I turned in a few the other day, 2 Splurt, a Convergeance, and a Defoliation, and got Minion of Shadows, Servant of Bone, Shadowbond, & Scent of Terris. So it's not a set spell for one you turn in.
Also, when i hailed him, he only mentioned the four spells for a necro to turn in, so it looks like only the 4 main caster classes can do this quest.

Any class can do the quest. When I was selling spells in the bazaar, I would buy up the cheap quest spells and turn them in for the better ones. Pure luck of the draw on which you get in return. If you are an evil charactor and can get into the OT outpost, you can do this quest. If you are a good charactor, go to Feronia Vie. Sorry, but no necro trades in Feronia Vie. haha
All together, you can trade spells for Cleric, Wizard, Mage, Necro, Shaman, and Druid. (No druid trade in OT - sorry again.) Just look for the NPCs there in the spell selling area in OT and talk to them. They will tell you what you need to do the quest.

It seems totally random to me. Here's how it went for me: had a friend bring in spells, she was a 28 DE SK btw. Turned em in one at a time. Splurt got me Minion of Shadows. Convergence got me Minion next. Defoliation then got me Minion AGAIN. Thrall of bones got me Sacrifice. Now I need Shadowbond, dammit..... :(

It is not a set list.. it's random. It was a couple months ago, but I turned in five splurts and got Minion, Scent, Shadow and two Sacrifices.

I am a 51 necro and i tried to do this quest earlier today. I did it in cabilis and handed in
3 spells, thrall of bones, defoliation, splurt.
All 3 times i received sacrifice in return : (

As far as i can tell, depending on which spell you turn in, you get the same spell back every time. I turned in Convergence and got Minion of Shadows, turned in Defolliation twice and got Shadowbond both time, turning in Thrall of Bones and recieved Scent of Terris. I read a post where another necro turned in Convergence and recieved Minion of Shadows. So following this pattern turning in Splurt, you would recieve Sacrafice. Please reply to this post and list what you recieved from each spells, not what your "friend" said he got =) ps wurmslayers suck

I would like to reply to my own message, if you read down a little bit, on the post "Got 53 pet and Sacrafice" you will notice he said he turned in Convergence and Splurt to get those spells, Pretty much for sure it's a set list of returned spells now.

I turned in two Defoliations, a Splurt and a Convergence. I got three Minions and a Scent. So it does not always give you the same spells for what you turn in.

This quest can also be done in cabilis. In the Necro guild there is one NPC on the top floor that dosen't give a skullcap quest. If you hail him he says the same thing as Vaean. So all the Iksar necros can do this quest too.
I think the spell u will receive by random are one of these:
Sacrifice, scent of terris, minion of shadow, shadowbond. No lev 55 + spell

I am a 51st necro on Luclin. I got Splurt off a wurm in skyfire and convergence off a tatterback gorilla in Burning Woods. Since I had already purchased both spells I traded them in and got Minion of Shadows and Sacrifice. Nice deal there.

To my knowledge the spells needed for the quest, Convergence, Defoliation, Splurt and Thrall of Bones, have a chance to be dropped from any mob lvl 45+ in Skyfire Mountains, one zone away. And most likely they also drop in any other zone with lvl 45+ mobs.
any idea who or what drops these scrolls and where to hunt?

Is it possible to do this quest, if the spell recieved is not to my liking, can I just give him the spell back provided it's one required for the quest?! So I could simply give him the scroll back he gave me until I get the one I want?
