You say, 'Hail, Salmekia Treherth'

Salmekia Treherth says 'Welcome to Surefall Glade Benadany, the home of the Jaggedpine Treefolk. I help teach young druids the ways of our people. We have worshipers of both Karana, the Storm Lord, and Tunare, the All Mother, living here in the glade. If you are a new druid I will help you obtain a [suit of clothing] that will offer comfort and protection while working in the wilds and help protect you from the weapons of the Gnolls that wish to take these lands.'

You say, 'What suit of clothing?'

Salmekia Treherth says 'You must use this specially prepared Curing Kit to craft the clothing. Each article of clothing requires different materials for its construction. Do you plan on crafting Pine Druid [Gloves], Pine Druid [Boots], a Pine Druid [Bracer], a Pine Druid [Cap], Pine Druid [Leggings], Pine Druid [Sleeves], or a Pine Druid [Tunic]? When you have been outfitted and are ready I will tell you of a [task] that you can assist with.'

You say, 'What task?'

Salmekia Treherth says 'We druids seek to live in harmony with nature, taking only what we need from the land and the creatures that inhabit it. Although the City of Qeynos is a noble place, there are people in the city that do not share our reverence for nature and poach the animals of the Karanas needlessly. Even worse than these poachers, whom the rangers of the Jaggedpine Treefolk constantly seek to deter, are the despicable worshipers of Bertoxxulous that hide in the sewers and catacombs of Qeynos. These wicked individuals are known as the [Bloodsabers].'

You say, 'Tell me about the Bloodsabers'

Salmekia Treherth says 'The Bloodsabers are responsible for a number of atrocities including the spreading of the diseases which have been inflicting the wolves and bears of the Qeynos Hills and the recent poisoning of the farmers fields in the Plains of Karana. Recently we have discovered that a Bloodsaber defiler has been attempting to poison the waters of Surefall Glade. Find this individual and deal with him accordingly, I doubt that this individual will surrender willingly. If need be eliminate them and bring me their head.'

Kill a bloodsaber defiler in the nearby cave. Loot her head and give it to Salmekia.

Salmekia Treherth says 'It is a shame that some people decide to throw away their humanity with the worship of evil deities. Your actions have saved the lives of many creatures that rely on the waters of this glade. Take this Rusty Pine Druid Scimitar and sharpen it in a forge with a sharpening stone. It may take you several attempts if you are unfamiliar with the process. Once that is done return to me with the Sharpened Pine Druid Scimitar, a Gnoll Fang, and a Large King Snake Skin.'

You receive a Rusty Pine Druid Scimitar. Combine it in a forge with a Sharpening Stone to create a Sharp Pine Druid Scimitar (trivial at 19 blacksmithing).

Loot a Large King Snake Skin off large king snakes in Qeynos Hills, and a Gnoll Fang off gnolls in Qeynos Hills and Blackburrow. Hand them to Salmekia along with the Sharp Pine Druid Scimitar.

Salmekia Treherth fashions a grip from the large king snake skin, attaches the gnoll fang to the heel of the swords hilt, and polishes the blade of the sword with a luminescent green polish. 'Here is your new weapon young druid. May it serve you well.'

I'm on the Sleeper and it worked just fine. Finished this 2-4-07 and I'm really happy with the weapon. Decent buffs and dmg for lvl 10. The NPC is not hard to find, just camo yourself and and go behind the waterfall and take the tunnel to the right and just follow it and you will come to the NPC.

It's kind of routine now: kill Yollis Jenkin the poacher on the way to Surefall every time he shows on tracking. In Surefall kill the Bloodsaber Defiler every time she shows on tracking. Turn in Bloodsabers' head to Druid Salmekia Treherth for a droppable, lore, upgradeable "Rusty Pine Druid Scimitar". Turn in Jenkins' head to Ranger Errin Pinewhisper for a droppable, lore, upgradeable "Rusty Pine Scout Sword". Stand in front of ranger lodge and /ooc if any newbie needs the weapon. If not, just drop them in front of the lodge for anyone to take.
Please note that once upgraded according to the guildmasters instructions, the weapons become no-drop and are useable only by their respective classes. Kind of funny that the heads would be no-drop, the rusty weapons are lore but not no-drop, and the upgraded weapons are lore no-drop. Makes the final task for Surefall druids and rangers a bit easier than the same for Kelethin ones because you can get a higher level to kill and loot and turn in the head for you anytime, then give you the rusty to upgrade yourself. I used to carry a rusty ranger and druid weapon just in case I saw a newbie without. I get a fragment of xp and some good faction for doing it, plus it makes me and the newbies happy.

# Sep 07 2002 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
well I wanted to build up my 1HS so I decided to chek for any cheap wisdom enhancing scimmy's and lo and behold I found this... could you increase your skills at blacksmithing if you sharpen the dull pine scimmy the first time? even if you do not have a single point of exp into blacksmithing, would your first attempt increase it or not? also, are sharpening stones stackable? thanks
RE: cool
# Sep 18 2002 at 7:03 AM Rating: Decent
Sharpening stones stack. They are cheap, too. I have yet to see anything cheaper than a sharpening stone. I have bought them for 3-4 cp a piece. A tip I discovered: Do the sharpening of the scimitar while in Halas. Halas is a zone with no shortage of Forges, I think there are three by McPherson's Bloody Blades.

The sharpening stones may be purchased from an NPC named Greta O'Reilly who is BEHIND the Majik shop in Halas. LOC is pos 63 neg 244.

Has anyone ever seen a large king snake skin? I have killed an ocean of king snakes and have never seen a skin, only scales.

The skins drop off "A large king snake" in Qeynos Hills, not the more common "a king snake".

Rather easy to find if you contract a young ranger to track for you, otherwise a long haul...

Another case of Verant forcing player interaction (IMHO - a good thing)

Where can this NPC be found???
RE: BloodSaber Defiler
# Sep 09 2002 at 4:31 PM Rating: Default
I don't have the exact location. But, go behind the waterfall and keep going to the right. She was at the first cubbyhole. It says the quest begins at 8. However, I'm a 15 Druid, and she was Dark Blue con. She kicked my butt completely, even though I used every buff I have. I only did around 20 damage, before she killed me and I have a Wraith Bone Hammer. Good luck.

If you hug the walls you may agro her as I did but they she get's first shot in which case you better be at least 10. Even at 20 (I was oom and night blind so cut me some slack) she gave me a run as she cast pretty fast and nasty including a disabling spell.

She is just inside the hidden tunnel though

Aye as did I. I would suggest you be higher than 8 to attempt this quest. At 8 the Defiler will eat you for breakfast.

I agree.Smiley: dnp I turned level 12 and wanted the Pine Druid Scimitar. (Since Allakhazam said it could be done by an 8.) I can walk up to her in camo, (tried it before) without her seeing me. We cast and slashed it out for a little while, then she cast some kind of spell that made me loose control, even though she was white to me. Smiley: eek I got the pleasure of a corpse run from queynos. Smiley: banghead Guess I will try again when I get my next level. Smiley: disappointed

Thanks folks. I'm off to sharpen me a scimmy.

also, EQTraders is great EXCEPT, the only place they even mentioned the sharpening stone was to get it in Freeport. FREEPORT!! A bit far to get a 3cp item. I knew yall would save me some time.

sharpening stone
# Jun 20 2002 at 12:42 PM Rating: Decent
The Sharpening stone can be bought in HALAS behind the Majik shop, or behind one of the bldgs next to it. You can use the nearest forge to where you bought the stone to sharpen the stone.
While there kill all spiderling you see to get spiderling silk for silk treads. Also buy the cheap 2 slot sewing kit to make treads at the kilt shop.

Sharpening Stone??
# Jun 20 2002 at 12:33 PM Rating: Default
Where is the nearest place from Surefall to get a Sharpening Stone? Earlier post said Halas, but where in Halas?
BTW: Took out the defiler with my 10th lvl Druid. She kicked my butt until I got a few nice buffs for helping out a 60th Druid with an errand...Thanks Dowin! After that, she was a pushover.
Thanks for the info.

FYI, my 12 druid is bound in S Queynos and hunts the Black Burrow/Queynos Hills area. When I need sharpening stones, the closest place,(if you have PoK enabled), is to go to the Plane of Knowledge. Look for Szrik Hammertail. (Sorry, forgot his loc, but I found it on this site.) Especially good for druids with Gate, as you can gate back to S Queynos from his shop. Smiley: yippee

Hope this helps. Just my 2 CP Smiley: twocents .

May Tunare bless you with what you need and curse your enemies with what you dont want.
teamwork
# Jun 20 2002 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
Team up with ranger when close to defiler's level. Trade helping them kill Yollis Jenkins for the head they need for their weapon in return for their help getting the defiler's head.

Get it a level or two sooner that way.

The reward is NOT the Pine Druid Scimitar
# Jun 19 2002 at 5:30 PM Rating: Good

If you kill the Bloodsaber Defiler, a caster (which afflicted me one time with 8 different spells) and return the head, you get a dull Pine Scimitar, Lore Item, which becomes its own quest.
The quest requires that you sharpen it in a forge (NO Blacksmith skill required) with sharpening stones (nearest place to find them is in Halas) and 2 other items which escape me right now, but are like Silk thread and a fur I think, easily aquired items essentially.

THEN your reward is the Pine Druid Scimitar.
RE: The reward is NOT the Pine Druid Scimitar
# Jun 20 2002 at 5:23 AM Rating: Default
the two other items are a large king snake skin and a gnolls tooth. Return the sharpened pine scimitar and the two other items to get the Pine Druid Scimitar
RE: The reward is NOT the Pine Druid Scimitar
# Jun 30 2002 at 12:44 AM Rating: Default
Is it actually a "Gnoll Tooth" or did you mean a Gnoll Fang?
RE: The reward is NOT the Pine Druid Scimitar
# Jul 01 2002 at 1:51 AM Rating: Default
It is a Gnoll Fang she wants. Also, when I turned in my Sharp Scimitar, Large King Snake Skin and Gnoll Fang, not only did I get the Pine Druid Scimitar, but she also returned the sharp scimitar to me. It is Lore but not nodrop, so I guess it could be passed on to a newbie druid allowing them to get their Scimitar many levels earlier....
