You say, 'Hail, Errin Pinewhisper'

Errin Pinewhisper says 'Welcome to Surefall Glade friend. I am Errin Pinewhisper, Ranger of Karana the Storm Lord. You will find worshipers of both Karana and Tunare residing here in harmony. I train young rangers of both faiths and assist them in getting prepared for work in the often dangerous lands beyond the glade. If you are in need of a [sturdy outfit] suitable for work as a young ranger then I will gladly instruct you on the means to obtain one.'

You say, 'sturdy outfit'

Errin Pinewhisper says 'This specially prepared curing kit will allow you to craft an outfit that will protect you in the wilds of Norrath. The materials required for the outfit vary depending on the piece you desire to craft. Do you desire to craft Pine Scout [Gloves], Pine Scout [Boots], a Pine Scout [Bracer], a Pine Scout [Cap], Pine Scout [Leggings], Pine Scout [Sleeves], or a Pine Scout [Tunic]? Once you are properly outfitted there is an [issue] that you may be of assistance in resolving.'

You say, 'I desire to craft pine scout tunic'

Errin Pinewhisper says 'To craft a Pine Scout Tunic you require four [silk thread], a ruined gnoll chain tunic, a giant whiskered bat fur, and a giant field rat pelt. Once you have the necessary components combine them in your Curing Kit with this Tattered Tunic Pattern.'

You say, 'what issue'

Errin Pinewhisper says 'A poacher was recently discovered hunting the bears in Surefall Glade and Qeynos Hills. This poacher has been identified as Yollis Jenkin and it appears that he has fled to Western Plains of Karana to escape retribution by the Jaggedpine Treefolk for his murders. Find Yollis Jenkin and tell him the Jaggedpine Treefolk sent you. He is wanted dead or alive so if he resists capture then bring me his head.'

Kill Yollis Jenkin in Qeynos Hills. Bring Errin his head and he'll give you a Rusty Pine Scout Sword.

Take this sword and sharpen it in a forge with a sharpening stone. Return the result to Errin Pinewhisper along with a Large King Snake Skin and a Gnoll Fang. You'll then receive your Pine Scout Longsword.

Errin Pinewhisper says 'It is a shame when human blood must be shed in the defense of our brother wolves and bears. I thank you for your dedication to the Jaggedpine Treefolk. Take this rusty pine scout sword and sharpen it in a forge with a sharpening stone. It may take you several attempts if you are unfamiliar with the process. Once that is done return the sharpened sword to me with a gnoll fang and a large king snake skin and I will put the finishing touches on the weapon.'

Why would you need to MQ this? If you can't get this by yourself, you should uninstall because the game is obviously too hard for you.

Don't know but why would you want to mq it? The sword isn't all that great unless if you don't have anything better than a rusty long sword. It doesn't look great either. Looks like a rusty long sword lol. The stats are less than decent. And the downside to this weapon is that its primary only. So when we get dual wield and if we get a weapon that does higher damage than this it would have to go in offhand. I don't think you can anyways. You need to give in yolis jenkins head first. Then you get a rusty pine sword. Take the sword to a forge with a sharpening stone. The only place where I know that sells them is in steamfont. Probably somewhere in Qeynos and freeport sells them I don't know. After you sharpen it, get a large king snake skin and a gnoll fang, both are easy to get so theres no need to MQ this.

Sharpening this sword trivials at 19, like many rusty weapons. You can't get to 350 with this.

Damage bouns?
# May 21 2003 at 6:01 AM Rating: Decent
Ok i hardly ever post any thing but what the heck. the post says damage bounse but mine dose not was this a glick in the quest or did they nerf the bounse.
RE: Damage bouns?

The damage bonus depends on your level.
Every sword has one.
This sword is just 6/27 as shown.
A 40ish player gets 11 damage bonus on 1-handers. He doesn't make this sword 17/27, it's still 6/27 but he gets up to 11 extra points of damage on each hit. In other words his biggest hit is 11 points higher. That's way different than adding 11 to the weapon's "DMG" number.

Hmm... I didn't notice the eleven damage bonus on the sword, but with it it would be even better than my current weapon. Does anyone know how such a bonus works?

It's better than a combined sword and about 75pp cheaper, the quest for it isn't to long and kind of fun. The only draw back is that it can only be used in the primary weapon slot.

Please note that this is ultimately a newb Ranger- only weapon, so not much sense in low levels questing it unless they are the Ranger class. And unless you are lvl 17, you can't dual weild yet, so big deal if it only equips primary.

Let us also take into account that should you be a purist and resist twinking, you have to have a magical weapon in order to do dmg to Wisps. These guys are decent XP and a great source of income if you get a 'Greater Lightstone', which I sell for 4pp+ in Qeynos.

Yollis is a tough solo kill at lower levels, so if you are <11 Ranger, LFG to help wipe him out. But once he's dead take his head to Errin Pinewhisper, then off to Halas or Freeport (book to Plane of Knowledge, Cairn to Freeport), to get a stack of sharpening stones. I say a stack as you are unlikely to have spent many training pts on blacksmithing. Get your Rusty Pine Scout Sword sharpened then see Errin again with the requesite goodies (LoY exp is handy for recording NPC conversations), and get your PSLS.
Killing wisps is just as good XP as Gnolls, more $(selling lightstones), and far less dangerous.

Rather than selling Greater Lightstones for 4pp to a merchant, you can do what I do: wait till I have a few bags full, then go to NK and turn them in to the gypsy lady, in exchange for a book which then sells for 9pp+.

There are a few mobs that path through the gypsy camp that can easily kill you at the level that you will be when you are questing for this sword. It's better to take the easy money from the merchant in Qeynos Hills than to risk the trip to the gypsy camp only to die there.

people keep posting about it being primary only... so what, a druid cant duel weild anyways. but it would be nice if you could toss it in RANGE slot when you get better. I like the idea im not limited to stuff that only looks like a Scimitar.

I have a low lvl human druid, and this would be nice. You used to have to really fight for a magic weapon under level 20 early in the game. Its decent ratio, magic, and later game bonus...it would make a nice deadly trophy :).

if that would be 17/27 thats a 1.5 ratio. Close to godlike. actually.
But magic at lvl 5 is cool. and the Druid halfing ones stats kind of suck, but it does have wis. I think they did a pretty good job to encourage and ballance actually. The only thing is you cant really celebrate the racial differences, like if ALL the noob armor stats made everyone 100 for example... thats kind of cheesy. I mean a human has low dex, so that low prock... But Because we ALL know you can do better. but some of this noob gear is SICK. (aka the dark elf warror stuff) a +stg to EVERY piece just about.

It's Ranger only, not druid.

Says Yollis Jenkins is in WK but he isn't - he wanders along the Surefall Road near the Sayers.
teamwork
# Jun 20 2002 at 9:47 AM Rating: Decent
Yollis Jenkins is tough level 12 who could beat me in melee at level 13 with full quest armour.

To get the weapon sooner either:

1) Bow-kite him along the road to Surefall
2) druids need to kill the Bloodsaber Defiler in Surefall for their weapon - team up with a druid to kill both quest mobs and get nice shiny weapon a level or two sooner than you could do it solo.
Incorrect Reward
# Jun 19 2002 at 6:00 PM Rating: Excellent
The reward for turning in the head of Yollis Jenkins is not the Pine Scout Longsword, but a rusty pine scout sword. This is an ingredient for the quest for the actual Pine Scout Longsword.

You must first sharpen the rusty sword in a forge with a sharpening stone (obtainable in Halas), and return it to Errin Pinewhisper along with a Large King Snake Skin and a Gnoll Fang. He will then hand you back the Pine Scout Longsword, which is Lore, No Drop and Magic.
