Dyth X`Teria looks your way apprehensively -- what would you like your tombstone to say?

    You say, 'Hail, Dyth X`Teria'

Dyth X`Teria appears to be the local master of wizardry. His garb clearly comes from the dark city of Neriak as it bears a black sun emblem. 'Speak!! I am dispatched from Neriak to this land by order of the king. I shall research [new spells] and aid the adventuring wizards. My knowledge of wizardry is offered to all in hopes of gaining information about Kunark.'

    You say, 'What new spells?'

Dyth X`Teria says 'Within this lost land could lie the knowledge of extinct civilizations. I am ordered to seek out this knowledge for the empire of Neriak. So far, all I have discovered is a way to create a spell of my own design. I call it [Brain Bite].'

You say, 'What is Brain Bite?'

Dyth X`Teria says 'If you wish to own a copy of MY spell, Brain Bite, I would be glad to give you one. All I ask is that you [gather a few souls] for me.'

You say, 'I will gather a few souls.'

Dyth X`Teria reveals three ornate bottles. 'While I finished my research on Brain Bite, I encountered three [interlopers] who wished to steal my spell. I had the dragoon garrison track them down and dispatch them. Unfortunately, I forgot to instruct them to trap their souls with these bottles. Do you want to [take the bottles] and finish the job?'

You say, 'Who were the three interlopers?'

Dyth X`Teria says 'The garrison report was sloppy, to say the least. They informed me that Hampton was slain near some ruins within a jungle infested by raptors. Mardon was slain in an ancient city found deep in a jungle. Ryla was killed in a hidden fortress guarded by fierce armored wolves who walked on their hind legs.'

You say, 'I will take the bottles.'

Dyth X`Teria says 'The bottles also require a gem. You will fetch me the three gems and I will prepare the bottles and give them to you to finish the job. I need an onyx, a peridot and a star rose quartz.'

All three gems may be storebought. Hand them in:

Dyth X`Teria says 'This bottle is for the one called Hampton. If you look well, you can see his name.'
Dyth X`Teria says 'This bottle is for Mardon. You may be able to identify his name upon it.'
Dyth X`Teria says 'Identify this when the time comes. It is Ryla's prison.'

You receive 3 x An Ornate Bottle, which respectively identify as:

    Item Lore: Hampton.
    Item Lore: Mardon.
    Item Lore: Ryla.

    Head to Trakanon's Teeth.

    Your Location is 275.07, -3801.88, -366.59.

a human skeleton regards you indifferently -- it appears to be quite formidable.

You say, 'Hail, a human skeleton'

a human skeleton says 'Save my.. soul.. Find.. wizard.. desp..'

Give him the appropriate bottle and it will despawn, then respawn about ten seconds later. You receive a "bottle of swirling smoke," which identifies as:

    Item Lore: Hampton's Soul.

Ryla, a human skeleton, is located in a jail cell in Karnor's Castle. Take the stairs up to the roof and past the "Hand Room". After passing one corridor on your right, the next turn you come across is the jail. Give the correct bottle to the skeleton to receive a bottle of swirling smoke, which identifies as Ryla's Soul.

Mardon, a human skeleton, is located in the City of Mist reaver tower at location +136 -641. The skeleton is kill-on-sight, but you can do the turn-in from around the corner without aggro. Give the correct bottle to the skeleton to receive a bottle of swirling smoke, which identifies as Mardon's Soul.

Return to Dyth X`Teria with the three bottles to receive the Spell: Brain Bite.

Dyth X`Teria says 'Only three souls will get you my knowledge, wizard.'
Dyth X`Teria says 'Only three souls will get you my knowledge, wizard.'
Dyth X`Teria empties the bottle's smoke into a very large glass urn filled with similar swirling smoke. You think you hear the cries of a thousand tortured souls. He then closes the urn and hands you a scroll. 'Here is your reward. It will blast a foe's brain and hopefully, they may forget their hatred.'
Your faction standing with Venril Sathir got better.
    You gain experience!!

To get to him: over the bridge, through the gate, turn right, into the waterfall area, turn left, kill the skeletons until Captain of the Guard pops. Kill him, loot A Stone Key. Fight/invis to the back of the city, open the door with the key, there's 6-8 golems behind the door. Through door, golem room and the door at the back of the room. Turn right (north) head to the end of the hall, (turn right), down the hall to the room. Straight through the room (you may agro one or two), and continue down the hall to the end. You now should be at the North East corner of the city. Stop there. The Human Skeleton is just around the corner at the end of that short hallway. You'll want either an Enchanter or a Necro to charm the skeleton in order to do the turn in. You can't hand in anything while invis'd.

-Turning in the ornate bottle did not cause ANY text at all, neither speech nor faction, but I did get the bottle of swirling smoke.

-The only mobs in KC that have Venril Sather faction hits are the drolvargs at the zonein (they /conned apprehensive to me, same as my VS faction level while all other drolvargs were KoS), and so I hear, the hands in the back. I can only confirm the faction hits for killing the front guards.

-The CoM skelly is on a 20 minute timer (exact) and has various PHs. Saw it once, after another wizard did turn-in in CoM it took six (non-consecutive) cycles for me to get the next human skeleton, on the seventh spawn I was at the camp for. This was the only skelly that wasn't indifferent. I boxed my chanter and he goes to indiff on the wizard after a mez followed immediately by a paci.

-The KC jail cells where the skelly spawns is on about a 26 or 27 minute timer. Wasn't up when I got there, popped on first respawn and repopped after turnin.

-The TT skelly was up when I got there and either stayed up or respawned right after turnin. I didn't pay attention to which it was he did.

-As a Tier`Dal of Solusek Ro I started apprehensive and stayed apprehensive through killing one VS-faction drolvarg in KC and after the turnin. Only faction hit (other than certain KC mobs that you need not kill) is at the final hand-in.

    Edit:
Thought I'd mention that I did this quest as my 38 wizard Tisha with my level 65 enchanter Vaedian as help, I also had another wizard show me how to get the spawn point of the CoM skelly and a 70 ranger Clearing KC for me (I was afraid to help due to the first drolvarg's faction hit). Since there are a couple strategies here that work, I won't repost that information. TT, CoM and KC are mostly red with a healthy mix of white and yellow /cons at level 38.

I was helping my friend (40 wiz) with this and for the CoM exchanged I did it in 20 minutes.

    1) Used my 13 SK with Sense the Dead to locate nearest undead.
    2) Used my attack pet (level 59 Flaming Sword of Xuzl) to pull each mob (which I nuked to death) until I killed the PH and the Human Skeleton spawned.
    3) Pulled Skelly, had bard charm it and friend did turn in. Total time = 20 mintues or so

Don't try to mez or charm him, after the fact, we found out he is the wizard guildmaster for this zone.

After about doing this quest for a year, yes a year, I got my bottles. The Trak one is easy. It's in a safe place, it's just getting around the zone if you have never been there. The one in KC is easy if you know where it's at. You can get there pretty easy if someone is in the Left CY. He spawns in tne second cell on the right of the jail. COM guy is easy to get to if you can get into the castle. Just take the right door, follow the hall up the ramp and through the door in to a room, jump the table and go through the other door. This hall is clear. Go to the end and turn to the right, the Skele or one of the PHs is at the end in the square room.

I think I was very lucky with the human skeleton spawns, tonight!

My Erudite wizard had just reached level 39, and I had begun working on this quest, because Concussion is simply an awesome spell. I had some friends helping me out in the City of Mist the other night (level 59 enchanter for charm, level 65 magician to kill everything, level 56 cleric for safety), but it ended up being pretty unproductive: the human skeleton never showed up. However, I had already begun to conjure up ways of finishing this quest without any help, if the opportunities presented themselves.

Trapping the soul of Hampton in Trakanon's Teeth was easy, since he's back in a relatively safe area near Sebilis. A level 1 wizard with absolutely no buffs or gear at all could complete this part without anyone's help; simply use the gift of your advanced wizardly intellect to avoid anything remotely dangerous while you run around Kunark. With this trapped soul on my wizard, I was now able to multi-quest it. Smiley: sly

I had already scouted out Karnor's Castle and re-learned the path from the entrance to the jail area, using my level 47 dark elf rogue. I figured he could sneak past just about everything in the zone, and if he couldn't, he might get lucky and only be seen by critters on Venril Sathir faction (amiable to him). I had sneaked back there yesterday, to check on the spawn, but there was a drolvarg sentry in the jail cell instead of the human skeleton, so I sneaked back out near the entrance to camp. Tonight, I figured I would check again, just in case, so I sneaked my rogue back there again, and as luck would have it, the human skeleton was there in the second jail cell on the right. I sneaked into the room, to the rear wall of the cell, and turned to face the back of the skeleton. I put the ornate jar on my cursor, clicked on the skeleton a couple of times to open the trade window, completed the trade to receive the trapped soul, and promptly returned to the shadows to sneak back out of the castle. I did my best to make the transaction as quickly as possible, so that I could return to hiding in the hopes of being undetected by the other critters in the area. Voila, Ryla's soul successfully trapped!

Now we get to the interesting part. For most people, trapping the soul of Morden in the City of Mist is by far the most difficult part of this quest, and people have devised various means of succeeding here. My means were unorthodox compared to most others for this part... but basically the same as in Karnor's Castle: successfully infiltrate the City of Mist, and work my way to the area where the human skeleton was usually found. Since this was a Friday night, and I still had a bit of luck left, there were 10 other people in the zone at the time, in the back of the city killing reavers and such. Sneaking back to the large building in the rear of the city was easy, especially with my Traveler's Boots helping me move more quickly while hidden. I had tried to use the flag trick, where you go to the top of the temple building in the front of the city and jump onto the tapestry fixture as a stepping stone to jumping up onto the wall, but while sneaking I just couldn't jump far enough, so I had to go to the back of the city instead. Picking the lock on the door to the elevator building was easy as well, since at level 47 I have my Pick Lock skill maxed out at 200, and I have my trusty Mechanical Lockpicks to give me that extra skill! Mechanical Lockpicks have a +2% modifier to the Pick Lock skill, so he effectively has 204 skill while using them, which is just high enough to pick some of the most notorious locks in the game. The higher level folks were in this area already, so there weren't many NPCs roaming around the first time I went through. I went through the door at the back of the room, and turned right, to go up through the wall tunnel to get to the top of the walls in the front of the zone, where the human skeleton spawns. Most of the mobs were clear, probably from the folks entering the area, so I didn't run into many things on the way up the tunnels to the human skeleton's room. His spawn had been cleared as well, so I sat and waited to see if he would show up, and sure enough, he spawned. Now, the first time, I waited for the wandering mobs in the area to go away from the area with the human skeleton, but I still had to worry about the phantom 5 feet across the room from him. I sneaked up behind the skeleton, and tried as fast as I could to hand him the jar and complete the trade, but I think the phantom agro'd on me and the skeleton assisted him, saying that he had no need for the item, and promptly began to cast his nukes on me. I immediately ran out of the door, over the bridge area, and jumped down to escape... but missed the bridge and landed in the water instead. I still made it out, but I took much more damage in the process; this was turning out to be much more dangerous than I had thought it would be! I was pretty determined, though, so I bandaged up, and went back in to try again. This time, I must have gotten either really lucky, or had much better timing, because the second time, I successfully completed the trade and received the trapped soul before the phantom attacked me! The human skeleton didn't attack, because after turning in the jar, he despawned. I ran out over the bridge again, and instead of jumping, this time I just ran off the edge so I wouldn't miss the bridge again. I High-tailed it to the zone to escape... Morden's soul successfully trapped!

I used the book of knowledge in the Field of Bone to save time getting to the Overthere, where I handed the trapped souls of Morden and Ryla to the wizard, and logged off my rogue. I then logged on my wizard, ran him to the quest NPC, and handed in the final soul, the soul of Hampton, to receive my spell!

This was my alternative to dragging a couple of friends to the City of Mist: a lot of luck, and even more adventure! This is the story of how I obtained Brain Bite, so perhaps someone out there can do the same and be just as successful as I was. Smiley: smile

    # Aug 15 2002 at 3:16 PM Rating: Decent
I will tell you that the way this quest is posted is not entirely correct.

    Part One: Hampton
Trakanon's Teeth- Correct. Found "human skeleton" without too much trouble.

    Part Two: Ryla
Found in the jail cells in Karnor's Castle. Again the spawn is named "a human skeleton". For dark races this quest starts in the OT which is on VS faction and you don't want to lose this while trying to get this soul trapped. It's simple. You CAN be grouped with people you just have to let them know ahead of time that there are certain mobs you cannot assist with as NOT everything is on VS faction in KC. The mobs that are on his faction are:

    1) The "cursed hands". Don't touch them and if you are not KOS to VS already before going to KC then they won't touch you either.

    2) The "Drolvgard Guardians" at the entrance to
KC. When conning them they weren't KOS to me. I walked by them without a problem.

These were the only mobs (that I am aware of at this time) that were on VS faction. As for VS himself, while I was KOS to him anyways. You can assist in killing any other mobs in the zone without effecting your faction. If in doubt just con them first. Invisibility to Undead also can help you make it past a lot of mobs on your way to the jail cells. :)

    Part Three: Morden
He is in CoM although this site never said where. Once you zone into CoM go to the first bridge and that is where you get the SK and the enchanter to duel. In my case I didn't use a SK, I used a Necromancer and it worked as well because they too have "Sense the Dead". Make sure the SK (or Necro) does not have any levitation spells on him and then get them to duel. You can even get the Enchanter to Tash the Necromancer to lower their resists. Once they are over the wall you MUST CHARM the human skeleton OR pull him. This site said that "on all accounts Charm failed" which is completely wrong. I must have had him mezzed about five times and he wouldn't do a thing. As soon as he was charmed I was able to hail him and hand him the "ornate bottle". His soul was then trapped. When charming him as a Necromancer you can tell him to "guard here" as he is now your pet, then come back down over the wall (you can cast DMF on yourself) and then "summon companion" and bring him down to the wizard. By simply pulling the human skeleton you can bet you'll get adds and so be prepared for that if you chose to use a SK. Adds can be handled with an enchanter there and a few tanks so no worries. :)

Once you have that third soul head back to the OT and hand them in. When doing this you get a positive faction hit on VS and you gain experience as well as the level 39 Wizard spell "Concussion". The scroll is no drop so you can't buy this.

Concussion is a spell that knocks the wizard back on a mobs hate list which is incredibly beneficial later on as we do get larger damage spells.

I completed this quest at level 43 so it can be done, you just have to have some guild help.

I'd suggest if this was someones 1st and only char to get to 39, that all the zones mentioned are way too high for some one to visit and start poking around in. The increased aggro for an under lvl'd char would certainly make a visit into the depths of Karnors pretty hairy to say the least, I'd say 49 is a more realistic lvl for this quest, sure you could swing it at lower lvl, but I'm considering those players who have never been to the aforementioned zones. Good luck to all the brave souls who try it at 39 <gulp>

Yes. Concussion is a spell I will almost always have memmed in a gem. Especially for raids or any case where you have to kill a named mob. A few casts of Concussion will lower your hate on the mob and thus increase the amount of damage you can throw at them in the long run. An invaluable spell for killing mobs like Derakor the Vindicator in Kael, or many Luclin bosses that take a long time to kill.

    Trust me. Get it.

I waited until just recently to get it, thinking it wasn't worth the trouble, and notice a huge difference in the amount of damage I can put into a mob without aggroing.

just Gravity Flux yourself up at main door in CoM. So you dont need anything else than a chanter there.
