This quest begins with Dom K`Perl just inside the eastern entrance of the Venril Sathir outpost in The Overthere (/location 3015, 2195, -48).

You say, 'Hail, Dom K`Perl'

Dom K`Perl says 'Welcome to my little refuge of the mind. Here you may find passage to the grand worlds within a fine book. I have few books for sale, but any good book is rare in the realm of Norrath. On occasion, I even have [rare finds]. Be sure to use good lighting when reading. Strain the brain, not the eye, I always say.'

You say, 'What rare finds?'

Dom K`Perl starts rummaging through a pile of books and scrolls. 'Oh yes, yes, yes. Rare books occasionally make their way to me. Ahhh!! I have one title, 'Before Green'. Sounds like a bit of fiction. What would you like to [purchase]?'

You say, 'I would like to purchase Before Green'

Dom K`Perl puts on a monocle and begins to look over the book. 'Hmmmm. Looks fairly valuable. In honor of the book's title, I shall allow you to trade for it with a fine emerald. What a bargain!'

Give him an Emerald (bought from most jewelry merchants for about 13pp).

(Closing dialogue?)

You receive the book "Before Green" (used in the quest "The Tome Raider").

The book is a special copy unlike the one you can buy in stores. It's handed to the Tortured Librarian as part of the Tomb Raider quest. I solved that quest a few months back and happily they approved it here. The quest results in a 2ac belt which seems to be part of the unsolved flaxen hilt quest in west cabilis. Further details are on the linked quest.

I have done this quest hoping to find faction with venril sathir. The book he gives you can be bought in cabilis and thats all you get so this quest is pretty much worthless. The book just tells a story about how the iksar were once slaves to the shissar and a green mist came and killed them or something like that so this quest isn't really worth doing. You don't even get faction.

I looted the book "before green" off of an iksar tomb raider I killed in EJ. Basically tells about when the iksar were imprisoned by the Shissar and some shnee went down anda big green mist came and killed all the Shissar. Don't flame me about that though.. it's been a while since I've read the book, but anyhow, yes Iksar SK's are the crusaders of greenmist. The message in the patch that the guy was talking about earlier was probably for the quest to get the "greenmist", the final SK khukri. Librarian Z-somethin was added to the SK guild and will give you the quest.

Green Mist
# Oct 24 2001 at 9:39 PM Rating: Default
Aren't the Iksar SKs called the Crusaders of Greenmist? Also, the most recent patch ... there was some hint about Green Mist ... 23/10/01 ... something to do with Chardok.

The below story seems to indicate possibly the rise of the worship of Cazic-Thule overthrowing the Shissar ... this indicates that it was NOT Trakanon ... and anyway, Trak seems to be in bed with the Frogloks, which are the hereditary enemies of the Iksar race, and ANYONE who worships Cazic-Thule. (must research more into Trakanon, however.)

The patch indicated something relating to Chardok, the home of the Sarnaks ... who were created from Dragon and Iksar blood ... creations of the Shissar ...

Looking also at the Shaman Epic quest ... it also seems that the pride of the ruler of the City of Mist (which the name is rather telling) brought the fall of the city ... and that rotting and the like ... most of the inhabitants of the City of Mist are either non-humaniod, undead or constructs like golems/black reavers.

Who knows? Maybe the green mist, whatever it is, shall strike down Chardok, and create something similar to the City of Mist again? Undead Sarnaks, crying vengeance against the retribution of the green mist?

BTW, these little mysteries, or should I say "misteries" really get me into the whole idea of EQ ... not just about levelling and loot.

The Shissar Worshipped Cazic Thule, among other gods, their death was caused by the gods, for invading various planes and stealing from the gods.

The Sarnaks are not the creations of the Shissar, they are the creations of the Iksar, more specificaly the creations of Atrebe, son of Rile and grandson of Venril Sathir.

I do not know of the fall of the City of Mist, but I know it was not greenmist that destroyed the city. Chardok was mentioned with Greenmist because that is where a tome is with information on the location of Greenmist, the weapon of Rile.

Tombkeeper Danl

The guy looking for old boks in the Erudin Library, I think named Tombkeeper Danl, is part of the Monk Epic quest. The book he is after is the Book of Immortals, which drops, I believe, off named spawns in BW or Skyfire. I doubt he has any relevance to this quest.
hmm you can buy this book in cabilis

Are you sure it's the same book? Taken a look at it? If the pre post is correct about there being a buy in Erudin looking for rare books, I dought this is the same book.

The one given from the faction is NO RENT. Sounds to me it's can an enchanter's quest ( encs and bards/rogues are the only ones that can get into OT and Erudin ).

If there are positive faction hits this could be a great quest for people in the OT.

No faction hit from the quest. You just get the book. That's all.
did someone try to identify them?
# Nov 23 2000 at 2:04 PM Rating: Default
umm maybe they are different part of the same book with the same title ....

and can combine them somewhere by someone, ummm :)
Probably not for quest ...
# Nov 05 2000 at 3:23 PM Rating: Default
This book is probably not part of a quest, since it can be purchased fairly cheaply ( couple gold if I recall correctly) from the Court Chronicler in the Court of Pain (Cabilis monks guild). I have not bought the book to verify that the contents are the same, but the title is.

Forgive my typing but here it is.

This is know as the Age of the Snake. The snake race known as Shissar, slithered upon Kunark. The iksar had yet to unite. Our people had yet to learn the Black Arts and the ways of Fist and Tail. Divided, the Iksar were enslaved by the snakes. In the centuries before the Green, the Iksar were slaves of the Shissar. They ruled from the ancient city of Chelsith which rest deep within the land now know as the Overthere. From here would sprout muych evil. the Iksar were tortured like Frogs and suffered at the hands of the shissar. The Iksar who showed genius were to help the snakes in their dark rites. These few were the seeds of rebellion. The iksar began to plot a revolt but a greater force would strike first.

The Shissar were an arrogant race. The power bestowed by the gods was no enough. They made pacts with other gods and demigods. They found the rifts of time and space and used them to gather magic items once held by the guardians of the planes. The shissar's disloyalty and blasphemous pride would bring the wrath of the gods upon them. No power could stop the force to come. A green cloud formed in the skies above Kunark. The cloud began to decend upon the land. From it's green core, the face of death began to form. It was of no god they knew of. It opened it's giant maw and spokein tongues unknown. From the mouth of death rushed forth a green mist. The shissar shaman Began to cast spells in hopes of shielding the city and the necromancer began to assault the misth with great weapons. All were futile. The mist rushed forth. The first snakes to be swallowed by the mist had their scales and flesh rot and fall from thier bones. Horrid screams of suffering could be heard from within the mist. A river of flesh and blood flowed. the Iksar stood and gazed upon the gristle that was once the Shissar. With the Green Death came the liberation of the Iksar

The season is now 0 A.G., after Green.

You don't suppose that the source of the "green mist" mentioned in this story is none other than our old friend Trakanon, do you?

I happened to have an emarald when I hailed Dom, so I gave it to him for the book Before the Green. The book, which is not written in iksar interstingly enough, talks about a time when the Iksar were slaves. I thought it was an interesting bit of history. However, when I logged on the next day, the book was gone. Poor reward for an emerald.
