Ask the guy who sells books in the monk guild, 'What lost book of the scale?' He will say some stuff about the lost records of talon and his life, and give you the book
of scale. Here is the part about the shackle sash and shuriken: "...ripping the shackle from his wrist, Talon gave it to Kiraikuei, telling him he must return it to the courtyard at any costs, including his life...Talon removed a small knife, and began to cut away the sash from his waist, letting his robe become loose, turning to Kiraikuei, Talon placed the chords of soild power around Kiraikuei...Talon fell to the ground, feeling his life draining slowly. He scrounged through his tattered belt pounches, and removed a Shuriken of imense power. Using his last bit of strength, he thrusted the Shuriken deep into a diamond, and told Kiraikuei to bring it to the ones who guarded the gates of the peaks...

Grand Master Glox holds the shackle, returned to him by kira. He needs the gem of yet to come and the broken piece of the key to open the box holding the shackles. Both camoe from lake of ill omen. The gem drops off the Sarnak Gem Oracle in Lake of Ill Omen, and the key drops from the head bloodgill. When you give them to him, Grand Master Glox attempts to open the box, but time has rusted the lock. He needs a skeleton key which is being guarded by Venril in Karnor's Castle.

bracer of might and quickness are 6 to all SVs.. but still either one is a damn good bracer to go with tyronium ,steel is ok but i wouldn't go through the pain of doing the quest again when so many better bracers have come out since the day when it was uber, although i do admit i did jump for joy when all the work i put into the shackle quest finally yielded something with frigging stats haha

This quest is no more. This quest has ceased to be. This quest has passed into the great hereafter. This is a former quest!

All you people are wasting your time reading about, asking questions about, and posting comments about (yes I know I'm doing just that, but this has to be said) a quest that has been long dead. I've been playing more than a year, and this quest died before I've even started playing.

The simple fact is, YOU CAN NOT DO THIS QUEST. Why? Because the key that used to be in Karnor's Castle, that Venril Sathir guarded, NO LONGER DROPS. You can still get the other two items, but they won't do you a bit of good. (actually from what I hear, you can't get the broken key from the bloodgill marauder either, just the gem of yet to come off the gem oracle.)

This quest has been entirely replaced with the new Shackle of Tynnomium (click the link here: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2146 ) which requires you to do the first seven shackles, dust through steel, and starts with Veltar in Dreadlands (the same guy you rescued from Droga, assuming you've done the steel shackle quest).

If you noticed that the shackle of steel is better than the scale shackle, it's no mistake... it's because they upgraded the previous shackles while killing this quest, that now they finally got around to replacing.

Shackle of Tynnomium is required for the finally completed Whistling Fist quest, too.

If you still have these items:
Gem of Yet to Come
Broken Piece of a Key
Ancient Thin Flute

DESTROY THEM, they no longer have any use.

Ancient thin flute is part of The Whistling FIsts quest. You turn it into Ballitin so he will drop a different flute you need when you kill him.

So DONT destroy your Ancient Thin Flute.

I don't suppose yall know it, but this quest was nerfed a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG time ago, prolly even before many of you started playing EQ. Hell I been playin going on 4 years now, and it was nerfed right when I started. They took out the skeleton key in KC, it used to just be sitting on the table in Venril's room, so unless it started dropping it off him, your sol. Either way this piece of crap has absolutely nothing to do with the Tyn shackle quest.

you dont need to do this quest
# Aug 16 2002 at 8:37 PM Rating: Decent
You dont even need to bother with this quest. you can gat all the other shackles from DUST to TYNN with out doing the shackle of scale quest. Seems to me for just 9ac the quest is more trouble then its worth... Unless you just want to do it so you can say you have.

Um... before you tell someone else what an idiot they are, perhaps you should do more research?

The Tynnomium shackle requires the shackle of steel, which requires all the previous shackles.

In order to get the Tynnomium shackle, you have to do all the 7 shackle quests up to and including steel. Scale is NOT NECESSARY TO GET THE SHACKLE YOU JUST MENTIONED, nor is it necessary to do get the Whistling Fists.

Personally, I'd just skip this one... it's not worth the effort even if it was still possible to do (which it doesn't seem to be, since the skeleton key no longer drops). Just do all the quests from dust to steel, then go for the Tynnomium.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 19 2002 at 2:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I know the Shackle of Scale is something of great pride to handle, but, I wouldn't quest for something that only gives 9ac. Now, if it gave like 10ac 0.2 Weight and like +2 Dex +2 Agi, it would be worth while item to get. Especially sense the mob guarding it is 55+, so I have heard.

The icebone skelli drops a ice heart. I killed the gem oracle 20 times and he drops gem every time, ive never seen anything drop the gem other than the oracle. Its no drop item as well.
as for the rest of the quest I will seek it it out because I have this problem, its called Trust No One and Dont believe everything you hear. There may be a change as patches happen all the time.

Anyone know of the tynnonium shackle? it is mentioned on Http://www.monkly-business.com and from the pic they have of it would explain the worth of the shackle quests. very nice bracer, dont know if the quest works or not...
RE: tynnonium shackle
# Jul 20 2002 at 3:15 PM Rating: Default
shackle of tynnonium is quested for the iksar master outside karnors in dreadlands asks you to do some quest for him in mines of nurga zu have to get some key from guard opposite his cell give him an item and then u get shackle of tynnonium is for an item that is like an epic (kind of an iksar style one)

No. You should not. The shackle of steel is still a good shackle! Get it. ;)

No longer doable
# Aug 30 2001 at 4:36 PM Rating: Decent
This quest is no longer doable. The Key was removed and from discussions over on Monkly-Business.com it would see the drop from the lead bloodgill was removed as well.

If anyone has actually completed this quest recently would be nice to know. But till it is proven otherwise this would seem to me just one more quest Verant didn't bother to completely implement/test.

I concur, I sat and tried every combination of "What lost book of the scale?" I could think of, including logging out several times and verifying what I was supposed to say, and this quest is no longer functioning. The court chronicler does not say anything or give you anything. I would like to know if anyone on Xev has ever seen this.

Anybody actually POSSESS this Shackle?
# Aug 08 2001 at 10:25 AM Rating: Default
So, does anybody REALLY have this item? I mean really, does any Iksar Monk that claims to have these actually have them? I've got an idea. If you really have them, I'd like to see them. I really don't care to know how you've got them, but just to actually meet a fellow swifttail that completed the trials would be pretty cool. Put your server, name, and time you are free and all the other monks that are interested can do the same as I and create a newbie monk and all meet in East Cabilis at the Court of Pain. Sound like a plan? Otherwise, I don't think you can get this shackle by a normal quest, especially by the way everyone is talking about. Reminds me of the Whistling Fist quest...

Hello all I'm a lvl 49 monk on Rodcet. I haven't been able to activate the quest. Does anyone know how to do it Ive asked the Chronicler the Phrase what book of the lost scale he has never replied in any way. So does that mean the quest has been for sure taking out or am i mis-phrasing?

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 15 2001 at 12:43 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Venril drops nothing more than staves and leggings, and the bloodgill marauder in loio only drops the medallion piece, the rest I won't even comment on since its a waste of time.

Well you're wrong in a sense, right in a sense. This quest is not a hoax, it is genuine. Actually it would be more accurate to say it WAS genuine. It has since been killed, by removing Venril Sathir's drop, and I believe the bloodgill's drop too. (Though you can still get the gem of yet to come, for all the good that does you!) This is a genuine, but now obsolete, quest, that has been replaced by the Shackle of Tynnomium, the fianl bracer for iksar monks and the prerequisite for the alternate epic, the Whistling Fists.
The end?
# May 26 2001 at 1:46 PM Rating: Default
If you notice this bracer is a poor copy of the prevous one I think since this one can be done on its own, it is not the final one. Thus there is prolly one better than steel just no one knows how to do it....... yet mwhahahaha
Hoax
# May 04 2001 at 1:18 AM Rating: Default
This quest is either a hoax or broken long ago. I spent 10+ levels with my main and several with an alt hunting Bloodgills, and the Marauder only drops the medallion for the VP key quest, and, like any other BG, can rarely drop the Harpoon of the Depths.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 01 2001 at 6:38 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) in PoM you can get a Mushroom Bracer, monk-only and 18 ac plus a **** load of stats. Of course, most monks will never even see PoM..
RE: New bracer monk-only bracer. 18 AC + stats.
# Aug 08 2001 at 5:45 AM Rating: Default
Ahh, there's better than that. There's some 35 AC bracer that monks can use, it comes from ToV. Do you see where this is going? Monks, Rogues, and INT casters will be able to start getting items in every slot with at leat 20 AC each. Which I guess isn't a bad thing, because so will everyone else. But it really puts gear from Plane of Fear, which is REAL hard to get, into perspective.
Gem Drop
# Apr 23 2001 at 10:00 PM Rating: Default
Don't really know how easy or hard the quest may be, but the Gem Oracle also spawns in OT in the ruined hut on the easy beach side of the zone. My 19 monk was hunting near there and a high lvl warrior killed the guy and told me to loot up for the quest. I'm laughing though, because I am too low to even start the quest, and from reading the posts it seems it may be broken. Oh well it's a pretty red gem )
#Anonymous, Posted: May 19 2001 at 10:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I got bushwacked by a skelly today at the windmill in Ill Omen. I didn't have any hammer summoned so I warded undead till he died, blue to me. He conned blue to me at 17. He dropped the Gem of Yet to Come which is why I came to this friggin' post in the first place. Now, i find it's for a monk quest, my luck.
Broken quest.

This WAS a quest guys, I saw a monk wearing this bracer on morell thule a couple months after kunark came out. This was, however, too easy of a quest for a low lvl monk to do so they took it out. "how is this easy you say?" simple:

1) run into venril room and fd
2) use f9 to spot key
3) get up and grab key, fd outside room
4) /q out to clear venril room agro
5) get a couple lvl 40 peeps and kill marauder in LOIO
6) grab a gem of yet to come at the sarnak fortress

That's how it was easy. A lvl 35ish monk could nab a 9ac 0.1weight bracer with relatively no effort at all compared to their harder shackle of steel quest.

I don't really know why they took the shackle out of the game. My best guess is that it was too easy to get at low level. It's a very nice shackle for the weight, but no better than hardened clay bracer or shackle of bronze.
