Hand Loremaster Solstrin your Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1).

Loremaster Solstrin says 'Incredible! Never before has an outlander been skilled and determined enough to craft our sacred rune. You are now worthy of the Dain's most perilous task. You should seek an audience with the Dain immediately. Show him your Runed Prayer Shawl; he will give you the task that has been prepared for you. If the Dain is away show your Shawl to Chamberlain Krystorf and he will call for him.'

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1) and an Empty Coldain Issue Kit.

    Dain's Chamber - Icewell Keep

(note: This step is not required, if you spawn Dain, you may not respawn him later)

  • Give Chamberlain Krystorf the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1) if the Dain is not spawned. This can only be done ONCE.

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 2) - (To prevent respawning of Dain)

Chamberlain Krystorf says 'One moment the Dain has been waiting for you. I will call for him.. oh here he is now, show your shawl to him.'

  • Hand the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl Shawl to Dain Frostreaver IV.

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'Ah Trewayn. I was hoping to see you. We require your skilled hand. The Armory is overtaxed preparing armor for the war that we are preparing to wage on the Kromzek. We need you to help them by creating some Field Plate for a mission that is near to execution. Go see Loremaster Solstrin in the Hall of Ancestors, give him these orders. He holds the lore recorded on how to make the field plate. Return to me when you have completed a Standard Issue Kit.'

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 2)
Receive set of orders for Solstrin.

Hall of Ancestors - Icewell Keep

  • Give the orders to Loremaster Solstrin.

Loremaster Solstrin says 'So, the Dain needs your assistance with the Field Plate. The Dain must trust you a great deal to impart the wisdom of our armor creation to you. Here are the tomes. The first details how to make the basic armor, the other details how to begin [working with gemstones]. If the Dain is asking you for them you should place them in an [Issue Kit].

May Brell guide your hand friend, good luck to you.'

  • Receive Forge of Icewell Arms and Precious Gem Study.

    You say, 'Working with gemstones?'

Loremaster Solstrin says 'Aye, gems are placed within the armor. Brell is pleased with this fusion of ore and gem. The combination produces a sturdy piece of armor. You will need some Etching Tools to work with the gems. If you ask Meg Tucter for a set, she should have some lying about.'

    You say, 'An Issue Kit?'

Loremaster Solstrin says 'The Standard Issue Kit is what we issue to soldiers at the beginning of their mission. I have this empty one here. Place a complete set of Imbued Royal Velium Armor into it before you give it to the Dain.'

  • Receive Issue Kit, an 8-slot container with a combine button. Holds large items and is LORE MAGIC and NO DROP

    Jewelry Shop - Thurgadin

You say, 'I need a set of Etching Tools'

Meg Tucter says 'Oh, really? There are not many around that work in faceting gems. I am surprised to see your interest. You can have this old set of mine. There is no need to return them, Talem recently made me a new sturdy set. Brell bless him.'

  • Receive "Tools". Make the armor, put in issue kit, hit combine.

  • Dain's Chamber - Icewell Keep

  • Give Chamberlain Krystorf the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 1) if the Dain is not spawned.

  • Receive Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Mark 2) - (To prevent respawning of Dain)

Chamberlain Krystorf says 'One moment the Dain has been waiting for you. I will call for him.. oh here he is now, show your shawl to him.'

  • Hand the Coldain Standard Issue Kit which you created to Dain Frostreaver IV.

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'Excellent work Adorean. If I didn't know I would assume this was made by our most skilled artisans. You must hurry, General Bragmur has formed camp in Iceclad. Take the kit to the General, he had to drudge forward without any armor. His [mission] must be a success if we hope to successfully defend Thurgadin against the Giants.'

  • Receive two items: Approved Issue Kit and Expedition Orders.

    You say, 'What mission?'

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'After General Bragmur has equipped the armor you have created for him, give him these orders. He is a skilled diplomat and will need to reach the pirate Gnomes. We must enter into a pact with them. We will supply them with the velium that they need to build their silly gadgets, and they will take their ship back to Antonica and call for reinforcements from our ancestors. We hope they will accept this pact, after all Brell has been known to align himself with Bristlebane whom the Gnomes of Iceclad follow. You may be an important [factor] in their success'

    You say, 'What factor?'

Dain Frostreaver IV says 'I fear that spies lurk in every corner. You may need to help the General reach the gnomish camp if the Kromrif has gotten word of our efforts. You should call on any allies that you have to assist in case they ambush you. Brell bless you Adorean, good luck.'

    Iceclad Ocean

  • Find General Bragmur at location -3400, +9000.

    You say, 'Hail, General Bragmur'

General Bragmur says 'Please keep yer voice down I am busy here. If you do not mind I would ask that ya kindly leave.'

  • Hand General Bragmur the Approved Issue Kit.

General Bragmur begins to put the armor, 'Finally the Dain has gotten word of my arrival here. I await his final orders before proceeding.'

  • Hand General Bragmur the Expedition Orders.

General Bragmur says 'The final orders, follow me closely! I pray that the Kromrif have not learned of our plans to allign with the gnomes.'

    You will face 5 Encounters.

    First Encounter: -3550 +7550

Commander Vjorik shouts 'The tracking wolves have found the Coldain! To the South West, Charge him!'

Four Kromrif Tracking Wolves spawn and attack. These cannot be snared or rooted. Unsure about stuns or mezzes. The wolves are not difficult.

The Tracking Wolf Coller drops here.

After the fight the General heads to the north again.

Second Encounter: -2200 +7250 (right next to the stone building)

Four Frost Giant Skirmishers spawn and attack. They hit for a max ~178 and are again easily dispatched.

The Spiked Velium Mallet drops here.

After the fight, the General heads northeast.

Third Encounter: -1100 +5950 (by one of the square dragon pillars)

Commander Kvarid and three Frost Giant Skirmishers spawn and attack. (They spawn on the General.) They cannot be stunned, mezzed, rooted or snared. The Frost Giant Skirmishers are level 55 and Commander Kvarid is 57.

Commander Kvarid's corpse shouts 'Arghhhh! Though you have felled me your plans shall not succeed! Rallos will destroy you all for invading our lands!'

The Ice Forged helmet drops here.

After the fight, the General heads northeast.

Fourth Encounter: +1500, +2250 (near Tower of Frozen Shadow)

Five Kromrif Tracking Wolves spawn and attack.

The Drakkel Wolf Claws drop here.

Fifth Encounter: +3700, +2650 (the lone tree on the hill)

Commander Vjorik and five Frost Giant Skirmishers spawn and attack. (They spawn on the General.)

    The Snowchipper drops here.

After the fight, the General heads to the pirate island.

    Iceclad Dock

General Bragmur says 'Lo there gnomes! Tell me is your camp located nearby?'

Ratop says 'Yar ye scruvy bearded dwarf, just over tha hill there.'

    Ritap says 'Arrrrrrrrrrr!'

    Iceclad Pirate Encampment

Captain Nalot says 'Hrm? Who is scuffin' around out here?'

General Bragmur says 'Greetings Captian Nalot, I have come to you with a proposition to make.'

Captain Nalot says 'Arrrrrr what is it ye want?'

General Bragmur says 'Well ya see sir, we have a surplus of Velium that we would not mind sharing with you for yer tinkerin' but would ask a favor in return for it.'

Captain Nalot says 'Velium eh? Well there matey lets hear what you have got to say!'

General Bragmur says 'I represent the Dain in this matter, we would like for you to use yer Icebreaker there to head to Antonica and bring reinforcements for the war that is preparing to ensue. We are needin' all the help we can get against the Kromrif.'

Adisson Stubblechin says 'Don't be thinkin' I was forgettin' ya, Nilham, ya spotty-faced salt licker. Remember, ya tell us where ya put our rum, an' we let ya out. Otherwise, ya have ta stay here!'

Avatar of Below 's voice echoes through the area. 'The efforts to help the Coldain and bring them together with the gnomes of Iceclad is quite impressive. There will be no doubt that they will continue to increase in power until they can overtake the Giants of Zek. Hey there, what is that on your shoulder?'

You say, 'Its a runed coldain prayer shawl'

Avatar of Below says 'So it is the sacred rune of the Coldain. Let me have a closer look at it.'

  • Hand the Avatar of Below the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl.

Avatar of Below holds the shawl up close to one eye to look at the rune sewn into it. He smiles to himself and then drops it to the ground and places one hand on it. A bright blue glow starts to emanate in the snow, then there is a sudden flash! The Avatar has dissipated. All that is left behind is the Shawl lying in the snow, shimmering with a new power. Pirotess slowly bends down to pick it up, and is infused with a blessing from Brell.

  • Receive Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl.

General Bragmur says 'I must go tell the Dain of these events immediately!'

Captain Nalot scratches his head, 'Yar ya do that ya crazy Coldain.'

    faction hit?
    # Jun 08 2004 at 10:48 PM Rating: Decent
Does being part of this quest help raide faction -dain frostweaver IV faction-, cause i know that coldain faction and dain faction do not link at all. you can kill a billion giants and become ally to the coldains, bu you could still be scowling to the Dain himself. to re-interate, would being part of the group force helping the person doing the 8th shawl, help raise dain faction for the group or just he person doing the turn in?
    Issue Kit combine bugged?

My problem has been resolved and was a simple oversight. *sigh* Sorry about the false alarm.

BTW, finally got my 8th shawl! WOOT! Boy am I glad to have this quest done and over with! Well worth it, but time consuming.

General Bragmur respawns 4 hours after the completion of the shawl quest. I had been told it was 3 but discovered that was wrong.
So if you want to do consecutive 8th shawl raids you're in for a wait. Do an LDoN or go fishing or something for awhile.
We also noted (we being the raid who was waiting for General Bragmur to respawn) that the Dain and Chamberlain Krystorf were missing too. I don't know if they are gone the entire time the General is gone but maybe it is that way so someone doesn't turn in the kit for approval and then go to discover that the General is not up.

    It says
    Quote:
Combine in Forge: Velium Rings + 2 Folded Sheets of Velium + Soft Fur Padding + Velium Smithy Hammer + Plate Armplate Mold = Royal Velium Vambraces (Smithing 178)

But it is not "Plate Armplate Mold", it is Plate Vambrace Mold. Hope that clears up any confusion. (edited: Ooh, they fixed it now!)

I did the jc combines with skill at 180. Only one failure on the faceted gems. I got extra gems just in case the armor failed. (I used a geerlok gemsetter). Successfully combined all armor pieces on first try with only 165 smithing skill (used a geerlok automated hammer). Got a few skillups while doing the combines too (got up to smithing 170 and jc 181). Then I did the final JC combines with a geerlok. Everything worked out well. I haven't done turn-in yet though. Need a nap first.
Oh, I also discovered that coldain velium tempers are sold for about 5pp by the merchant who sells the velium smithy hammer.

Oh, FYI here's a list of things you need:
    1 etching tools NO DROP
    1 velium smithy hammer
    1 plate boot mold
    1 plate gauntlet mold
    1 plate helm mold
    1 plate breastplate mold
    1 plate greaves mold
    1 plate vambrace mold
    2 plate bracer molds
    2 unrefined diamonds NO DROP
    3 unrefined emeralds NO DROP
    3 unrefined sapphires NO DROP
4 large bricks of velium (yields 8 velium rings)
    8 velium hound furs
    8 silver threads
    8 velium rings
8 soft fur paddings NO DROP
15 large blocks of velium (yields 15 folded sheets of velium)
    15 folded sheets of velium
    23 coldain velium tempers
(This is all assuming you have 0 failures on combines).
Be sure to have an empty slot for a container so you can combine the kit.

UPDATE: I got my shawl!! (Ever notice the Dain has no legs? How can he walk if he has no legs?? Seriously, it's creepy!)
The General could not be mezzed, so the enchanter runed himself and got aggro then memblurred.
Btw, I discovered his respawn time from the end of the shawl run is 4 hours.
I would like to thank Nobility of Norrath guild, Jantz, and Firriann for doing the shawl run with me. Ramia for the velium hound fur. Wheremi, Shurely, Pathogenl, Jonaab, and Clawen for helping me hunt for gems and velium. My friends from the Silver Warriors alliance for helping with the velium hunt in CC. Ej (sorry I can't remember the rest of the spelling of your name) for the info about the velium tempers, the advice about the shawl run, and the blocks of velium. The sweet female paladin who's name eludes me at the moment who gave me velium. Drooh, Firriann, and The Spellbinders guild for the moral support and putting up with my ******** about tradeskills. My brother Jonaab for organizing the people for the final raid. All of the people who helped me along the way, I'm sorry if I've left out any names. I really really appreciate all the help. Thank you.
To those who are still trying to do the shawl: Good luck!

I know this is probably a dumb question, but do I have to fight my way to Dain in order to do the 8th shawl quest? From the comments here it appears that the only way to get to him is jump over the bridge at Thurg entry. Or, if I instead head through the tunnel sytem, it looks like I'll end up at the bottom of the pit, with no way to get up to Dain from there?

OK - this really WAS a dumb question - after looking at the map and using the Icewell entry at the back of Thurg I see that I can just walk up to Dain.

Hi! I have a friend who has everything ready for the 8th shawl. However, she took a Dain hit and is now KOS. She has repeated shawls 1 and 2 about 10X each. Still KOS. I know killing Tmax will boost the Dain, but how much? Is there another way? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. We are at our wits end with this.

If you have made the armor for shawl 8, and are KOS, hunt the food parts for shawl 3 in EW and repeat the snow bunny, kodiak and ulthork parks make 10 -20 of each and see how that does. If you haven't made the armor arrange for someone else to make it who is not KOS, and just get your shawl 7 approved by the armorer in the basement as he is on coldain faction. I have made the armor folk folk who are KOS to the dain, I did the trigger for the walk and they did the turnin.

unless I'm mistaken, the best way to raise faction for the bosses of a perticular velious faction (i.e. Dain, KT, and Yelniak) are the quests. I'm currently trying to get aimable or higher with Yelniak formy wizard to complete the white dragonscale boots quest, but seeing as I can rarely catch KT up, I've been handing in helmets and toes. For the dain faction, there are mobs near KT's area that give dain faction. Furthermore, in regards to quests, you can also do the armor quests from Thurg, it too offers faction. Killing a mob such as the dain requires a lot of work to bring the faction back up. Dont give up. And, if I'm mistaken on this post, I appoligize ahead of time. Good luck !

Just did mine tonight. Had a mixture of levels from 41-65. Had 3 groups and was way overkill. It is doable with 1 group of 65s. Just make sure that you keep agro off of the general and you wont have a problem. Thanks to everyone who helped btw.

Alright this is annoying. I spent hours and hours and hours trying to find the right gems, failing, and getting more. I finally have the armor and put in kit and hit combine and nothing working. I have Vambraces, Bracer, Helm, Greaves, BP, Gauntlets, and Boots. All are imbued. What's wrong with this?

You are one of many lol. I myself did the same thing, made all the items (or so I thought), swore for 10 minutes because it wouldn't combine, and then dawned on me that the General might need 2 bracers for his suit of armor. Asked some friends after and most had done the same thing as well.

Would be great if guide was updated to be more specific for future questers.
    What I did.
    # Mar 19 2004 at 10:37 AM Rating: Default
I just done the Handin parts with the Dain a few minutes ago. This is what I did.
First before even talking to the Dain I went directly to Loremaster Solstrin (this is BEFORE I EVEN SEEN THE DAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER), Hail him and said Issue Kit. He told me he needed to see my Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl. So I handed it to him and he gave me the Issue Kit. i put the armor in the kit and hit the combine button and headed to find the Dain. Once I found him I hailed him and gave him the Combined Issue Kit and Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl, and he gave me back the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl, Approved Issue Kit, Expedition Orders and Royal Coldain Orders. So I think if you just gave him your Combine issue kit your good.

Hopes this helps People get throught that part of quest without having to camp the Dain due to his untimely death.

I tried the same thing... did not work. Your shawl will be taged "approved by the Dain" and you will be unable to summon him. Don't try it..

    Final Orders?
    # Mar 02 2004 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
I just did the final combine last night for the 8th Shawl so can confirm the combine at least is working. I handed it to the Dain and he returned to me the approved kit but, No Final Orders. So I petitioned and apparently General Bragmur doesn't ask for orders in his text after receiving the approved kit. So it seems the quest may have been changed slightly. I will be hopefully be triggering the event in Iceclad this evening with just the approved issue kit. Will update this post with the outcome one way or another!

OK Update is that it was bugged! The Dain should still give out Expedition Orders after all. Luckily a nice GM met me in iceclad and gave me some to get it started! Also said that they would look into why he hadn't given the orders out in the first place.

    WRONG
he demanded final orders. i handed him expedition orders and he gave them back -- so now what???

    Did you ask "What mission?"

You have to complete the rest of the text to get the orders. They were skill needed when I did my shawl, a couple months ago.
    Issue Kit Combine *Bugged*
    # Feb 20 2004 at 3:33 PM Rating: Decent
There's a link on the Sony message boards confirming that part of the 8th Shawl Quest is broken... It seems that with the new UI tradeskill interface there are a lot of quest item bugs:

    http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/everquest/Forum4/HTML/059868.html

Someone has confirmed that the combine with the armor and the Issue Kit won't work.

Sorry, scratch that last message. Just did the combine for the Approved Issue Kit and the Final Orders without any problems. Combine is *NOT* bugged.

    Sorry for the misinformation.

    Respawn Timer!
    # Feb 19 2004 at 11:53 PM Rating: Decent
Due to the numerous people who like to ***** people over on Seventh Hammer (I won't go into more detail)...

Does anyone know what the respawn timer is on the General in Iceclad?

Not entirely sure, but it's only a few hours: we did it today after another guild had done it about four hours before.

What is the best way of obtaining faction if you do not have sneak available? Killing giant's the only thing you can do? Is there a quest? Anything will help. Thanks.

The Dain can be summoned by showing your 7th shawl to Chamberlain Krystorf if he is not up. However, if you find the Dain up and show him your shawl to get the orders needed for getting the issue kit, you can not use it to summon him later.

I would take Feldaer's advice and go get your etching tools and build the armor. That way if the Dain is not up you can spawn him, show him your 7th shawl, get the orders for the issue kit, get the issue kit and put the armor in then combine, and then run back to the Dain to turn in your kit and recieve the orders to give to the general in Iceclad.

I found the Dain up and got my orders and headed down to get my issue kit. I didnt have the armor made so after getting the issue kit, I started off to PoK to make it. On my way out a guild passed me by on their way to kill the Dain. It took forever for me to find him up again. Seems he is a favorite target on my server for his head. So don't make the mistake I did. Make your armor first so you can spawn him and do it all at once.
    Dain turn in

Ok I am ready to start the 8th shawl and after ready all the posts I am a little confused on hte Dain part. If you can only summon him once how do you get the orders from him to start everything and still do the turn in later?, any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Well, basically, you pretend you already were told what to do, and head straight to meg tucter. Get the etching tools, and make the armor.

Then, with ALL 8 pieces of completed armor (2 bracers) head back to icewell, and summon the Dain (though on my server, he seems to be up most of the time these days). Then get the orders, go get the issue box, put the armor in it, and combine. Run back to dain, and hand him the combined box.

He will give you the approved issue box.

Now you don't need to worry about the Dain any more. You're done with him.

The general is a regular timed spawn. Once you have the approved box, you're in good shape, as long as you don't fail the escort.
    Last Night's Run
    # Jan 08 2004 at 1:42 PM Rating: Decent
Our guild did this last night for our wiz with one group. We had 65 wiz (his run), 65 warrior, 65 shaman, 65 cleric, 65 bard, and 65 ranger (me). It was very easy for us to do. Bard and I cleared way for general while warrior escorted him to each spot. Warrior, Bard, and Ranger, and shammy pet would each tank a mob, usually leaving one for the wiz to run around til we called for it(if it was still alive). The new pathing for the General to the gnome island has him bypass the ice and just swim across.

I have never seen Dain so I know I have not shown him my 7th shawl (or the completed issue box). I did show Borannin the 7th, then went to show Krystorf. Krystorf just hands it back and says "like a said before you should show this to Dain" .

I did try to show Borannin the shawl again (same day) and he says he doesn't need it.

I also went to Solstrin to get the 8 slot container. Could this be why Krystorf won't spawn Dain for me?

Just completed this last night. Huge thanx to all that helped. Few things to note. All mob's can be slowed. The wolf's can be mez'd but the giants can't. Everything is immune to changes in run speed (no snares or roots) including the General. The General can't be mez'd so don't try unless you wanna aggro him. Expect the General to attack one of your party member's at least once and be ready with a mem-blur. All in all the encounter's weren't terribly difficult. 3 well balanced group's ( Tank, healer, slower, dps) 55+ should have no troubles.
    Can be slowed?

    Mold Size

Does the mold size matter when making the armor?
    RE: Mold Size
    # Dec 16 2003 at 7:37 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, the mold size matters. Use medium molds. Some molds aren't labelled with a size, which seems confusing. Just make sure the vendor also has a small and large version of the mold - if so, the one with no size indicated is the correct one. The armor mold vendor at the tradeskill building in front of the main PoK bank has all the necessary molds, btw.

    General KoS BL pets?
    # Nov 12 2003 at 9:25 AM Rating: Decent
The General doesn't seem to like Beastlord pets. I tried to do my Shawl Crawl last week and the General appearred to KoS the BL pet. Anyways, long story short the General died and I had to start over. Thanks to a great guild, EDL on Inny, they rallied that same night to get all the components together and we're trying it again this week.

Can anyone confirm this about the General not liking BL pets?

Wolf form seems to affect some of the NPC's on the walk -- and General Brag. will try to kill you if you are in wolf form or are naturally KoS (i.e. evil races, or you've killed too many dorfs). The pirate gnomes are 100% KoS to wolf form, so be careful so you don't botch the final hand in for your walker!!

Is it possible the beastlords themselves were KOS to the general? The pets might appear to aggro on the general when in fact they were just defending their respective masters from the general's aggro.

Alternately, do BLs or their pets have any AE spells? Mebbe one of them went off and tagged the general by mistake?

Anywho, best of luck on your next attempt! =)

I have participated in this crawl likely 7 or 8 times and my beastlord pet has never been attacked by the general. You sure pet didn't atk the general by mistake?

I just finished up my 8th shawl, walk and all. Even after all the questing and associated faction bumps, I'm still only amiable to the Coldain, and dubious with the Dain. So you don't need very high faction to complete the quest.
