Introductions

Maesyn Trueshot may be found in the ranger guild in Kelethin at -451.03, 520.32, 116.28.

You say, 'Hail Maesyn Trueshot'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Welcome to Kelethin, ______! I am Maesyn Trueshot, commander of Faydark's Champions. We are the finest marksmen in all of Norrath. With our trusty [Trueshot longbows] we can miss no target regardless of the distance or the conditions.'

You say, 'What Trueshot longbows?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was created by my famed father, Eldin Trueshot. It is quite accurate and takes a ranger's skill to wield. We use our new recruits to [gather materials] needed by my father. We shall soon begin to release the formula to good elves so all may fletch such a bow.'

You say, 'I will gather materials.'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Take this pack. Go to Kaladim, find Trantor Everhot and ask for dwarven wire. Then go to Freeport to meet Jyle Windshot. Search the inns for him and ask him for treant wood. Then, collect some spiderling silk from spiderlings and finally, in Steamfont, we have the permission of the gnomes to use any micro servos we find while destroying rogue spiders. Combine them all and return the pack to me.'

You receive a Material Pack, a 4-slot MEDIUM container.

Dwarven Wire

Trantor Everhot may be found wandering around North Kaladim.

You say, 'Hail, Trantor Everhot'

Trantor Everhot says 'Yes, yes!! I am a very busy man. I've got blueprints to work on, [dwarven wire] to perfect and formulae to calculate. In between those tasks, I have to find time to head down to Irontoe's and down a few Tumpy Tonics.'

You say, 'What dwarven wire?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Oh!! Interested in my dwarven wire, are you? Many are. I have no problem letting you use a spool, but I have to warn you that I have not perfected the strength of it yet. I will make you a trade. A couple of [Tumpy Tonics] for a spool.'

You say, 'What Tumpy Tonics?'

Trantor Everhot says 'Aaah!! I love Tumpy Tonics. They were created by Tumpy Irontoe. He was once a member of the famed Irontoe Brigade. Since they disbanded and left for parts unknown he decided to stay in Kaladim and open Irontoe's, the finest well in Faydwer.'

You can get Tumpy Tonics from Tumpy Irontoe or brew them yourself (1 Kiola Nut + 1 Water Flask in a brew barrel, trivial 135). You'll need four of them for the quest, so make sure you get enough. Give two to Trantor Everhot unstacked.

Trantor Everhot says 'Hey!! Only one?!!'

Trantor Everhot says 'Great!! I did not have the time to get down to Irontoe's today. Here. Like I said. A spool of dwarven wire. Now go away. I ain't sharing these tonics.'

Your faction standing with Storm Guard has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Kazon Stormhammer has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Miners Guild 249 has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Kaladim has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Craknek Warriors has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You receive Dwarven Wire. Give him another two Tumpy Tonics unstacked for the second piece of Dwarven Wire.

Treant Wood

Jyle Windshot may be found in West Freeport (a different version of him may be found in East Freeport, but that's for a different quest). Make sure he cons amiably or above.

You say, 'Hail, Jyle Windshot'

Jyle Windshot says 'Hello. Might I ask what you are looking for?'

You say, 'I am looking for treant wood.'

Jyle Windshot says 'You are a new courier from the Faydarks. I am sorry I did not stay closer to the docks. I hear that part of Freeport is dangerous and is filled with many rogues. I shall require a new Small Lantern in trade for the Treant Wood.'

You can buy a Small Lantern at many vendors, including Innkeep Palola in North Freeport and Innkeep Harold in East COmmonlands. Give Jyle the lantern.

Jyle Windshot says 'Thanks, friend. I have run a long way to get here in time. Mostly at night. I lost my lantern in a card game in Highkeep.'

Your faction standing with Faydarks Champions has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 1.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

You will probably receive Wooden Shards, which identifies as "Treant Wood Shards." Occasionally you instead receive A Wooden Heart, which identifies as "A Treant Heart." This is used in the subsequent Rain Caller quest.

Other Ingredients

Spiderling silk drops from spiders around the world. Rogue clockworks in Steamfont drop Micro Servos. You'll need at least two Micro Servos, so make sure to collect spares.

The Finale

In the Material Pack, combine 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Wooden Shards, 1 Spiderling Silk, and 1 Micro Servo to craft a Pack of Materials. Give this to Maesyn Trueshot.

Maesyn Trueshot says 'I shall see that my father gets the materials. I hope this can be of use to you. It will serve as your starting point toward fletching a Trueshot longbow. It is unfortunate that we are unable to enchant the bow to its [next incarnation], but it is still a fine weapon. You do know the [correct components] needed for fletching such a bow, do you not?'

Your faction standing with Faydark's Champions has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with King Tearis Thex has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Clerics of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Soldiers of Tunare has been adjusted by 6.
Your faction standing with Crushbone Orcs has been adjusted by -6.
You gain experience!!
You receive 6 gold from Maesyn Trueshot.
You receive 1 platinum from Maesyn Trueshot.

You say, 'What correct components?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'Now that I have crafted the Treant Bow Staff, you shall need one Planing Tool, one Treant Bow Staff, one Micro Servo and one spool of Dwarven Wire. These items will be used with your Fletching Kit as all other bows. Be forewarned, only a Master Fletcher can create such a bow and even a master fails from time to time. Good Luck.'

You receive a Treant Bowstave. Combine this in a fletching kit with a Micro Servo, a piece of Dwarven Wire, and a Planing Tool to craft a Trueshot Longbow (trivial 235).

I have finished my Trueshot quest. I will share my notes on this quest in hopes that they help.

First off, for those that have not created a Ranger yet but are researching, go with a Wood-Elf follower of Tunare. (my reasons are to not start a flame here but are as follows: Followers of Tunare get to use the mighty bows and arrows of the game. Wood Elfs are the only ones that can make them)

Ok, if you are a low level, then I suggest you go to Steamfont mountains. Hunt and gain your levels. Be on the look out for Rogue Clockworks and Runaway Clockworks. Save all micro servos you get. Let it be known in the zone you are collecting them and others may send a tell if they kill one with the microservos on it. Collect them all. They are no drop so you cannot farm them with another character. Get as many as possible. When you are ready to leave, stop at the windmill and buy atleast 1 plane from the bowyer clockwork. You will need it. They cost me 10pp apiece with a Charisma of 125. NOTE: While running around Steamfont, watch out for the Kobold Missionary as he will aggro and you will get the message "Loading, please wait"

Once you have atleast 30 (IMHO), it is time to leave Steamfont Mountains. Go to Kelethin (the treehouses in Greater Faydark. Specifically you are going to the ranger guild, which is called Faydarks Champions. Once there, hail Marsyn Trueshot and follow the dialog. You will end up with a bag to collect components. The hardest part is done as you will already have the micro servos.

Next step is to head to Freeport. Once there, go to North Freeport and buy about 30 small lanterns from Jade Tiger's Den. Then go to West Freeport. You are looking for Jyle Windshot. He is in the Hogcaller Inn. Give him 1 lanter for each piece of Trent wood. Things to note: It will say wooden pieces. That is the trent wood. It will not say Trent wood. Also, you may recieve a wooden heart. KEEP IT. It is part of an upgrade quest to the Trueshot Longbow. And last not on Jyle, there is also a Jyle in East Freeport. This is not the correct Jyle. IT MUST BE THE JYLE IN WEST FREEPORT.

Once you have your wooden pieces, get on the boat in East Freeport. The first stop the boat makes is in the Ocean of Tears at Sisters Island. Run off the boat and run straight ahead into the hut. On the left is a vendor where you can buy your Kiola nuts. I bought 30 and made it back to the boat before it left. The nuts are no stack so make sure you have room. Also, it is the vendor on the left side.

Once you get to butcherblock, get 30 water flasks. You will need to turn in 1 water flask and 1 kiola nut per tonic. Run to South kaladim and go to the Irontoe' Eats. Turn in 1 nut and flask to Tumpy Irontoe and he will give you a Tumpy Tonic. I turned in 30 nuts and flasks.

Once you have the tonics, go to North Kaladim and track Trantor Everhot. He moves around. Once you find him, give him 2 tonics for 1 dwarven wire. Do this until you have given him all the tonics.

Next stop is to collect spiderling silks. Get atleast 15.

Once you have collected all your components, place 1 micro servo, 1 dwarven wire, 1 trent wooden pieces and 1 spiderling silk in the bag and hit combine. It is no fail.

Now if your skill in fletching is not at atleast 180, your chances of failure are high. At 153, I failed 4 times. At 164, I failed once and at 186, i failed once before succeeding. Choice is yours. Some have succeeded where I have failed. I am consistant now at 186 after the first failure.

If your fletching is high enough, take the bag back to Marsyn and give it to him. You recieve some experience and a trent bow staff. Place the staff in your fletching kit along with a micro servo, 1 dwarven wire and a plane. Hit combine, if you fail, you will recieve the plane back but loose the other components. Thus the reason for getting extras to begin with. If you succeed, you will loose the plane but now have the Trueshot Longbow. If that is the case, I say, "Well done Ranger!" As for the extra pieces of trent wood, dwarven wire, and micro servos.. I gave my Trueshot to one of my alts. I then make another trueshot and give to my guild or sometimes to newbie rangers that happen to show me they are worthy of it. Bottom line though is that if you fail, you have the stuff to try again. Take care my fellow brother and sister Rangers.

That bit about wood elves of tunare being the only ones who can make mighty bows and arrows isn't true. I don't know where you got that, but it's just not a fact.

Wow, hard to believe that I wrote that information almost a year ago. I do not know where I read the information on the tunare only bows and arrows. Thank you for setting me straight on this matter Aerique.

I went to Jyle in East FP and as a Ranger he would only accept a Ranger's tunic as payment (along with 2 gold). I got one piece of wood shards this way some time back. So I went to West FP Jyle and he gave the shards for a small lantern.

The one that asks for your rangers tunic is the fake one. I have heard, though that the wood shards the fake one gives you can also be used in this quest.

Good post!
For what it's worth;
I suceded at fleth 101 on 5th attempt.
Wis 90, Agi 120, Int 75, Dex 80
If you took as long to buy and make arrows to get fletching up as I did, you would be glad to see avoiding going up 50 more in fletching.

This quest is a pain... I read the board and figured, "Hey if I have enough for ten attempts I will surely suceed at skill 102. NO... So I dump 100 plat into raising my skill and get it to 122, gather enough for annother 6 attempts and go hey I have twice the skill as some of the chumps that have made the bow on the board, I am sure to suceed. NO... Got a 110 more plat and am off to get my fletching up higher YET again. If you made this bow at >100 fletch please do us newbies a favor and do not share your joy... it only gives us false hope. DO NOT ATTEMPT UNTIL AT LEAST 120 even then you may end up like me.
failure rates

Just a small reminder. Since this bow trivials around 180-something trying to make it around 100 is like trying to make banded armor with a smithing skill of 35. It's not gonna be easy. I would suggest that you put every piece of int. or wis. stuff you have on your ranger before you ever attempt this. Int. or Wis. (whichever is higher) is a huge factor in your success rate so if you have to, lend your ranger some stuff from other characters. And if you're on Xev I can even sell you a Stein of Mogguk. But whatever you do, don't waste your attempt if your int. or wis. is below 100.
RE: failure rates
# Nov 17 2002 at 1:39 AM Rating: Decent
I dunno, I think I'd try it at around skill level 100, the components aren't terrible hard to obtain. As for starting banded armor at 35, I did that! and I'm now proud of my 175 smithing skill =), and all for less than 1k of effort (this was before all the trivials were lowered)
RE: failure rates
# Nov 12 2002 at 9:52 PM Rating: Decent
bow does not trivial until at least 215, probably higher.
RE: failure rates
# Oct 02 2002 at 5:42 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest a while back, At the time my fletcheing was less than 90, my INT is less than 80, as is my Wis. Still after 4 attempts I made the bow. Was I lucky? Probably, but it is possible to due with less than optimine conditions. If you try it expect to fail a few time.

Didn't I read that the developers confirmed at a recent fan faire that the only factor in success on any trade skill is your skill level? Int/Wis (whichever is higher) affects your roll on whether the skill improves on non-trivial combines but does not change your success rate. Can anyone confirm this?

# Aug 31 2002 at 1:41 AM Rating: Decent
Finally completed the Trueshot Lonbow. Took me a few dozen tries between 102 and 155 in skill. Until 155 I had always tried just one time per sitting. I finally sat down in front of Maesyn Trueshot with enough materials for 5 tries. I swore if it didn't work this time, I was going to kill every faerie I saw until I was not welcome by anyone in G Fay.

Anyway on the fifth try I finally got back a bow - I have nightmares about receiving the plane back.

I have to hand it to the posters - they exhibit much more satisfaction and patience than I have with this particular quest. If I ever start another ranger I will just buy the silly bow for the 200pp. I am sure I spent well over 2k just getting fletching to 155 as a result I am the most underequipped level 22 out there. At least it seems like that much and feels that way. ) I have no idea how it could be sold for so little compared to the effort and frustration I faced.

Gratz to all of you who did it and double gratz to all of you who did it with a smile on your face.

What is the the Guild Tunic Jyle Windshot wants?
RE: question
# Aug 25 2002 at 11:58 PM Rating: Decent
There are apparantly two Jyle Windshot's in Freeport. One in East and one in west. Someone told me that the one in docks area (is that West?) wants the tunic, and the other one wants the small lanterns. Both will give you treant wood shards.

I have not verified this myself yet.

I have a fletching skill over 100, and I have failed to make the Trueshot Longbow twice. I would say that 60 is way too low.

RE: question
# Sep 09 2002 at 7:16 AM Rating: Excellent

I went to the other Jyle Windshot yesterday, and he does indeed give you the treant wood shards for a small lantern. I gave him 10 lanterns and he gave me 9 shards and 1 treant heart (I think it's used for the epic quest).

Then, it was off to the island in the OOT to get Kiola nuts. I bought 10 of them, and headed back to see Tumpy. It's too bad that they don't stack. It takes up a ton of space in your inventory. I made it off the boat, to the merchant, bought 10 nuts and back to the boat before it left the island.

I now had enough materials for 3 more attempts. I would like to say that I succeeded on one of them, but, sadly I did not. I have now failed 5 times. My fletching skill is 106.

There is a member of my guild wo offered to sell me one for 150pp. I may take him up on the offer, but it's becomming a personal vendetta to make one myself.

Good luck to everyone out there trying.

treant heart is actually for the Trueshot upgrade, or Enchanted Trueshot Longbow quest, which starts in felwithe

Dont know
# Jul 31 2002 at 2:50 PM Rating: Decent
My thoughts.
Good quest, tougher than i thought it would be.
Still, i have made my second one and fletch only at 125.
My first was made with fletch at 101.
Wisdom was at 90, Agi. at 105, Dex. at 75 for what it's worth.
I tried 4 times at fletch around 70, no success.
I succeeded on 4th attempt at 101, then failed on fith atempt at 101.
Then waited and failed 3 times at 120, then succeeded at 4th try at 120.
Anyway,i dont know why i'm so special, people act like this is so hard to make.
Maybe i have good karma cause i'm not twinked :?
If you really want to know, ask one of the software engineers who desigened this thing, it's all been designed you know, no guessing.
My advice, get more than enough ingredients and start triiing to make once fletch at 100.

Good luck, (or not)
What should you do?
# Jul 29 2002 at 7:04 AM Rating: Decent
Well buddy if I were you I'd get to Fletching. this thing trivials at like 180 or something to that effect. I'm currently at level 68 and will now be spending a lot of time and money on fletching, brewing, and baking. These three are all relatively cheap so I will indeed have some fun with it. GL on your Trueshot. BTW the brewing I will be doing is to make the Trumpy's tonics myself. Do as little work as possible.

The quest says lvl 8-60 to do this quest. As a Ranger of the 18th season, I believed I was ready. From what I have seen, my fletching skill is no where near what it should be to make this bow (60). Should I even attempt this now? I have 20 spiderling silks and 9 micro servos. I was just about to get the nut for the tumpy tonics. What should I do? ... I cannot afford to make to many attempts at this.

My skill is 111 and I have failed 48 times now. Very frusterating. Good luck.
RE: should I even try this?
# Jul 19 2002 at 3:26 PM Rating: Decent
Yup, you're gonna want your fletching up a LOT higher than 60 before attempting the Trueshot Longbow. I started trying with my fletching at 108, and failed eight times in a row. I finally succeeded at 126, after a mutltitude of attempts... but it's worth it!
It's a long tedious quest for all the items, so get LOTS of extra pieces so you can make multiple tries without travelling all over the face of Norrath again. It'll take patience for the micro servos, they're not a rare drop, but they ain't common, either! hehehe

Safe Journey!

Try getting that fletching up and get stuff for as many combines as possible. If you can get your fletching up to the 160 range or better you have a really good chance of making it. Less than that the odds are against you but it can happen.

A good guide to getting your fletching up as cheaply as possible can be found here: http://members.bellatlantic.net/%7Eewj/fletchguide/index.htm

Good luck

Hiya all! =)
I first started my trueshot quest at skil lvl 95, went to steamfont, got 2 micro servos, did the tumpy tonics quest and got the dwarven wire, and went to EC and got spiderling silks. But then when i got to the part with Jyle Windshot, it just wouldn't work. i had the small lanterns and everything and gave him one, he gave me wooden shards. i gave him about 11 more and he gave me 10 more wooden shards and one wooden heart. Now that confused me. Isn't this the point where u should get TREANT WOOD from the guy? not wooden shards. How do u get the treant wood? ack help....plz

Do Not give lanterns to the jyle windshot near the docks in freeport,he is an imposter, the correct jyle is in wfp,in the hog caller inn.
also, dont bother killing the imposter, unless any changes have been made, you will take a massive faction hit with the kelethin rangers guild.I thought i'd be doing everyone a favor by killing him,but i was wrong, when we stopped at sister isle to get the kiola nuts, the sisters marched on the boat and slaughtered my mage companion!
I had to kill thousands of orcs(or so it seemed) to get my faction good enough to do the quest again.

You've got the right stuff. "wooden shards" is the treant shards you are looking for. FYI for anyone else reading this, if you end up with "Treant shards" you've been duped by an imposter Jyle. I've painfully made the trip from GFay many many times before realizing that mistake.

Most bowery merchants have them, not the ones that sell arrow parts... In Kelethin its the merchant across from Trueshot bows, in freeport its the male merchant in the Fletch shop.. Also at the windmills in Steamfont.

It says here that you can give Jyle "small lanterns", but when I try, he just gives them back. What am I doing wrong? I can't even find out how people know to give him small lanterns...

Yes, the real Jyle Windshot spawns in West Freeport, in the Hogcallers Inn. If you talk to him he says there's a member of the Rogue's Guild that's been masquerading as him in east freeport.

To make the bow, you have to take:1 spiderling silk, 1 Micro Servo, 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Treant WoodChip and put it in the bag that he gave you after hailing him and talking. Then you will get the bow staff. What to put in your fletching kit:The Treant Bow Staff, 1 Dwarven Wire, 1 Micro Servo, and a bow plane. Hit combine and if you get lucky youll have a Trueshot Bow =)

If you Look up the "Raincaller" quest, that's what he's referring to. Much higher level.. i'd say about level 40 to do.

when I gave Jyle Windshot the lanterns he wanted instead of giving me wood chips one time he gave me a wooden heart. Anybody know what this might be for?

Save the WOODEN HEART! It is used in the upgrade to the Trueshot Bow, and turn it into the Raincaller.

I have a skill of 131 and have made 10 failed attempts so far. I would mind so much if those microservos dropped more often. I've cleaned the zone out for three days of clockworks and they only drop one for every ten you kill.

only things that matter really, are Skill in Fletching and Dexterity...one other factor is luck. But luck only really applies when you are under the fletching skill lvl required to make it.
I have 130 in fletching, I have failed 10-12x since skill lvl was 100. My old ranger made the bow at maybe 20 or 30 skill in fletching. (different server).
My advice would be have a chanter buff your wis (just cause you might gain a skill point), have a shaman buff your dex, and if you have your skill over 150, it should be pretty easy.
a question

when it says u need a plane to assemble the bow, what does this mean? what is the plane?
waa hoo

Succeeded on my 8th or 9th attempt.

Stats: Fletching 163 (ug I did 4 stacks of ceramic vanes to get from 162 to 163)
Wisdom = 93, Dex = 90

I had tried previously at 107, 116, 127ish etc...

My advice : SAVE the servos till your at least 148, and string together the attempts.

Tedious, long, but ultimately I'm happy. Tired, but happy. Servos are the only reason this is pain, I don't mind the ride to and from FP to get the nutz - since I can use FP as a place to gather up some goodies.

now onto the next obsession......
wis?

My understanding is that your skill increase rate is based on your wisdom or intelligence (which ever is higher). Your success rate is based on your dexterity.

So my advice is get some wisdom, dexterity and charisma gear (to buy components cheaper and resell back to vendor for more).

Be sure to note ... Ranger only... We did the quest and didnt check this out... oh well. It happens.. dont let it happen to you. Not a bad quest and some interesting places. Watch out for the Brownies in Lesser Fay.. Kill me quick... level 37th warrior (now 36th again) and a 54th Bard.. sooo bad news. Traveled a lot of new ground and found some new monsters... enjoy,.

Man, they really made it hard on us rangers didn't they? Our first "dream" weapon takes an enormous amount of time and effort to attain. I wonder if any of the other classes have to put this much work and plat into attaining their first class-specific weapon? Fletching is not a skill that progesses quickly. And attaining all of the necessary parts for the Trueshot is a major under-taking. I've spent days in Steamfont trying to scrounge up a handful of micro-servos and I was even killed on the Sisters Isle by a pirate while trying to buy the kiola nuts (good thing I was bound in Freeport). Finally, by the time you are able to craft the bow, you can almost make bows that are as good as the Trueshot (maybe not in damage, but definitely in delay). I've been saving all of the pieces for the Trueshot for a time when I think my level is sufficient, but damn...it almost seems like a major waste of time...

At least you don't have to camp your dream weapon for several hours only to have the spawn stolen by a level 50 Über-tard. The quest really isn't that bad, besides, it encourages you to try out tradeskills.
