There is a bard in the guildhall named Sylia who wants you to collect spiderling silks for her. Bring her 4 silks for experience, a drum and some money. You can bring her one silk at a time.

    You say, 'Hail, Sylia Windlehands'

Sylia Windlehands says 'Salutations! The Song Weavers are always glad to add a new voice to the choir. In addition to your voice, will you also [fetch spiderling silk]? We need some to replace our worn lute strings. Carry out this task in high tempo and we will show our gratitude.'

You say, 'I will fetch spiderling silk.'

Sylia Windlehands says 'Very spirited of you!! Gather four spiderling silk and return them to me. Good hunting, my friend!!

    Give Sylia four spiderling silks.

Sylia Windlehands says 'Splendid job! Now if you can just keep a tune, you'll be a fine bard.'

Your faction standing with Song Weavers has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 1 gold from Sylia Windlehands.

You also get a hand drum that can be sold for 5-6 silver.

This quest must give quite a small faction increase. I've done over one hundred turn ins (400+ spiderling silks), and have not left amiably, which I got to by completing the Songweavers Final Task quest a bunch of times.

You should be able to get your bard faction up by doing postal quests. I am interested in knowing if any non-bard can do this quest.

There are lots of quests you can do at low levels that will get you factin and good exp.

The "guard reports" in Qeynos are an example. You can make L2 without killing rat 1 in a short period of time just by running about a bit. But that same exp is undetectable above L2. This looks like better exp - it looks like it will take you to level 4-5 on the turnins - but CB Belts (or following people and getting loot rights on their orc fangs) will get you more exp faster.

The other reason to do these quests is for faction - especially on PvP. Who the guards help depends on who they like. Park your charmed rat near the guards - after doing the faction quests.

Just my thoughts here but I think it would be insane to turn in 4 spiderling silks for a drum!! The silks sell for 5-10 plats EACH now in the bazaar. Just sell them and buy the darn drum from a vendor.

    # Sep 18 2004 at 1:39 PM Rating: Decent
Because you also get a bit of experience, which newbie bards (and everyone else!) need. This is an original newbie quest; there was no Bazaar and prices weren't so inflated. Fine Steel was the height of weaponry and Combine Weapons were the best weapons in the game. Time passes and yes, you can get more plat now and go buy a drum. But you still can't get the exp.

Do you have to be amiable to do this quest? If not what do you have to be?

My level 53 Wood Elf Druid friend, wolf formed herself and my Iksar Monk.
We both conned "Indifferent" to the Songweaver Sylia, when we went to hand in Spider silks. Sylia wouldn't take them.
My Druid friend has done nothing to lower her faction with the Kelethin Bards.

I've tried this as a human bard, but Sylia Windlehands just doesn't love me enough to want to tell me all about it. Seems a little strange, perhaps the songweavers distrust humans?

Any half elf or wood elf bard starting in Kelethin would be foolish NOT to do this quest. Bards need drums. Period. Do this quest and Make a little gold and get a free drum, instead of shelling out cash for one.

Despite her tone and words, can you give enough silks to raise faction to the point that she'll start paying & giving out drums? Or is just futile?

    # Sep 11 2000 at 1:10 PM Rating: Default
Although as you go up, the experience becomes trivial(or non existant), I still turn in my spiderling silks. Where else are you going to get 1 gp for 4 silks? And you can sell the hand drum for 6sp 9cp! Nice profit for taking the time to turn them in.
Also, I find it best to have four silks but turn them in one at a time. Quite often someone has turned in 2 or 3 and I get exp and gp for turning in one or two.

From a twinked tailor. Heck, I'd give you 4gp for 4 silks. Gombine those into thread, and they can be used in making leather padding. Sells well.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 09 2002 at 6:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) For Spider silks, maybe... but spiderLING silks are only used for making leather cords (used in a few bag creations, but not the infamous 10 slot bag), and silk bandages.

    Leather cords? /boggle

I sold a stack of Spiderling Silks (not Spider Silks) last night for 50pp. The person I sold them to was making leather padding - and like the previous poster said, these are not made with spider silks, but with spiderling silks.

2 Spidlerling Silks --> Silk Thread
Silk Thread + LQ Pelt --> Leather Padding.

I am a blacksmith (199 skill) and I usually pay 10pp per stack for these. If I am really in need I may go as high as 20pp. Whatever you do, don't waste the silks on this crappy quest. Sell the silks, and go buy some crushbone belts, you'll level faster, get more cash, and make the blacksmiths happy. supply the same one over time, and maybe they'll cut you a deal on armor ;)

BTW, what that other guy probably meant was a SILK cord.

    3 silk threads =silk cord
silk cord +low quality bear pelt = tailored large bag.

    Nice bags for lowby monks.

Still, from a Plat and exp perspective, your better off selling the silks to a smith. Get a small sewing kit, and combine the silks into threads yourself. It NEVER fails, and you can skill up to 15 in tailoring. Also cuts two stacks of silks down to 1 stack of threads.

Silk Bandages have now been added to the game.

2 Spiderling webs in a Sewing kit = 1 Silk Thread
2 Silk Threads (unstacked) = 1 Silk Bandage

As with any skill, you may fail due to lack of knowledge. The exception, 2 Spider Silks which combine to a Silk Swatch. Bandages will trivial at a higher level than Swatches, but should be easier to gather webs for!

Threads & Swatches use the same picture icon, double check that you are using the correct pair.
Both do stack in your Inventory.

Threads and Swatches have different pictures now

I too was unable to get anything out of her. I'm a ranger, but I hear that shouldn't make a difference (why would I want the drum you ask? for the Exp of course). She just tells me she wouldn't help me out. I don't know why. Can I raise my faction, and if I did would it help. I'm almost thinking its not worth it.

Sylia wasn't sure why I gave them to her. Having already done several mail runs, I am favorable with the LegueOfAntocnican Bards.
Now checking against the Quest faction tables here, I don't see her Songweavers listed, so am unsure how to raise this for any non-elven races.

I'm a wood elf druid (Tunare) with reasonable faction all around Kelethin.

I gave Sylia about 20 spiderling silks and all I ever got from here was nasty reactions.
"We have no use for people like you" or somesuch.

I was able to perform the postal quests however.
Maybe this doesn't work if you are over level 5 or so?

    power leveling
    # Jul 19 2000 at 5:26 PM Rating: Good
You might want to consider knocking the estimated time for this down to about 90 seconds. I reached level 3 and was looking for food, came across two vendors at the top of newbie lift. Each one has (virtually) unlimited quantities of spiderling silks sold for 4 sp 9 cp. rounded off, that's 2 gold for 4 silks. hand the four in and get exp, 1 gold and drum. Sell drum for 7 sp and change. Total cost of quest: 2 sp 7 cp. I went from 3rd to 5th in a matter of 30 minutes. Total cost estimate: 25 gold. I stopped at that point to get my skills up, but I can only wonder how high you could get.

    # Aug 07 2001 at 11:25 PM Rating: Default
The merchants directly above the newbie lift in Kelethin no longer sell spiderling silk. I even visited other merchants that are nearby this lift, as well as those directly above the PoD and orc lifts, but none of them sold spiderling silk.

They only sell spiderling silk if a player sells it to them. There are no merchants anywhere in the game that regularly stock spiderling silk, but many have it due to players unloading it for quick cash.

The above also applies to Spider Silk and Bone Chips.

I can confirm this - my friend had a bunch of money and pulled the same thing. Keep in mind though, levels 1-5 are always a cinch.
