You will notice an NPC on the Bridge in East Cabilis named Hierophant Granix. He is a Shaman Trainer and when hailed says, 'Leave me in peace Cradossk, I have little desire for company now. The Faceless sends visions to me that may hold the fate of our race in sway.'

You ask him, "What Visions?" and he replies, "'The spirits tell me of strange happenings around the ancient city of Charasis. None of the mystics that have been sent to investigate have returned. Something is surely happening in the ancient tombs of that city. I pray to our lord for some way to calm the tortured spirits of our fallen brothers that haunt the Howling Stones.'

You must now gather a force strong enough to fight in the South Wing of Charasis or Howling Stones as it is known. If you aren't aware, Charasis is a dungeon in Overthere that requires a key to enter (the key quest information can be found here).

The dungeon requires a solid group of 50's to go very deep in. Kill random mobs until you have aquired one dusty skull and 4 glowing skulls.

Return the Dusty skull to Hierophant Granix and you receive this message:

Hierophant Granix peers at the skull intently. 'There is strange magic in this skull Cradossk, whatever necromancer animated this skeleton was a powerful warlock indeed. I sense the power of several ancients in this relic. Take this skull to Oracle Qulin in the field of bone, he may be able to perform the ritual which will free this ancient's spirit from the mortal
realm.'

You will find an NPC by the shore in Field of Bone named Oracle Qulin. Give him the skull.

Oracle Qulin runs his scaled fingers slowly over the cracked, brittle skull. 'Granix did well to send you to me, I may yet be able to recover the spirit of this ancient and set it free. Come! I shall need your help with this ritual.'

Oracle Qulin dips the skull in the crystal waters. He lifts the skull over his head and stands completely still, allowing the water to drip down off the skull down over his body and finally on to the parched sand.'

Oracle Qulin begins to chant. Quietly at first but then louder and faster. He speaks a language you only vaguely recognize. It is the voice and language of the ancient oracles. His voice booms out over the water filling your mind with images of the ancient Sebilisian empire and the great Iksar rulers of old.

Oracle Qulin's voice stops suddenly, leaving the air completely silent. Even the waves seem to have stopped for a moment. You begin to move toward him, but he raises a hand toward you motioning for you to stay still.

Oracle Qulin says 'Suddenly without warning the skull flies from Quilin's hands and flies into the murky waters. It stays submerged for a moment and then flies toward you, but this time an entire corpse is attached to it.

This spawns An Arisen Iksar whom you must kill. He is approximately lvl 50 so you will want a few friends for this depending on your level. Once killed he drops Wet Skull Fragments. Give those to Oracle Qulin.

Oracle Qulin says 'It seems this particular ancient does not wish to be put to rest. Return this note to Hierophant Granix and tell him what happened. He will surely wish this skull to be disposed of properly, but I do not have the power to do it myself.'

You return the note to Hierophant Granix. Hierophant Granix says, 'It is as I feared, the mark of the warlock has surely driven these ancient spirits mad. We can not allow these spirits to roam free in our world Cradossk. Take this case and place the glowing skulls of other ancients inside of it. Return it to me with your Cudgel of the Heirophant so that we may remove these cursed spirits from our world forcefully.'

He gives you an Ornate Skull Case which is a 4 slot combinable container. Put the 4 Glowing Skulls from Charasis in this container and combine them. Then hand in this combined container and your Iron Cudgel of the Hierophant and you receive your new cudgel.

Just a note in case someone aggros Qulin and it takes a while to reset/finish off the Arisen Skeleton he will in fact despawn. Quite a lengthy respawn. apprx 1.5 hours - he will not accept the wet skull fragments and you will need a new dusty skull if this happens. The turn in can only go to the triggered oracle.

Do you know if you can turn in a new Dusty Iksar Skull and immediately turn in the Wet Skull Fragments to the triggered Oracle? Or do you need to fight the Arise Iksar again?

Few notes for other Shamans who may find themselves in my position:

Once you return with a new Dusty Iksar Skull, you turn it in to trigger *Oracle Qulin. You may then immediately trade in the Wet Skull Fragments to receive the Note to Granix.

Side notes:
- *Oracle Qulin will still summon An Arisen Iksar even after you trade him the Wet Skull Fragments.
- They will both stay up for 10 minutes before despawning.

Good luck.

Soloing? It all depends. What level are you? How are your soloing skills? How well are you equipped?

I have been doing these cudgel quests off and on since about level 35 and have soloed it almost completely. Of course I have just barely finished the 7th cudgel at level 61. I could of started at the level I am now and soloed all parts of the quest up to this point without any difficulty.

The 8th cudgel on the other hand looks to have a couple tricky parts. I do not believe I am up to soloing Venril Sathir.

Glowing skulls
# Jun 02 2004 at 12:13 AM Rating: Decent
Are the glowing skulls found only in the Eastern wing? I have been killing the mobs that drop the skulls (helot skele, scepulcher skele and undertaker skeles) in other parts of the zone but am yet to see the glowing skulls drop. Hence the question, do the skulls only drop in the Eastern wing?

I have never had one drop in the West or North wings. However, I did have one drop from an Undertaker Skeleton in the South Wing just beyond the painting.

I just compleated this quest...

I had two skulls from a while back, I can't remember where they droped. I went back today and had one drop in a room where the coin ground spawn is. The other was in the tunnel heading to the eastern wing.

They DO drop in the south wing.

Howling Stones Skulls strategy

Group: 61 necro w/lvl 60 pet
58 Shaman (myself)

Necro FD at zone, zone in invis shaman (DO NOT MAKE PET), provide cover for necro to make pet, shaman do not make pet.

Caution: East door stairway is a pit trap.

Kill all wandering spawns, kill gaurds at South door, while group is standing in center of room, have necro pull East door gaurds and dispatch them.

Move to South door entry way, fire up levitation, or have necro give you Dead man floating, stand on top of "Fire pot" that has view of East doorway entrance, mouse look up a bit, and run to East door landing, I did this w/o SOW, but I do have Run 2 AA.

Single mob spawns behind East door, held this first room (loc +60 -200), killing all spawns in it and the adjioning room, DO NOT go up stairs through the painting (unless in greater force), got the 4 glowing skulls and 1 Dusty skull all in these two rooms.

Time collecting items: 1 1/2 hours

I can't seem to get over to the east wing

I sink like a rock, guess it doesn't help that I'm a troll =P Any more tips on getting over there solo?

I've been having a rogue help me clear the south wing..I've killed about 5 undertaker skellys, and still no dusty skull

The main thing that makes it hard to get across from the south door to the east door is tiny amounts of lag.

Turn clip plane down, turn off all other items on your computer, if necessary log off and switch to old models.

With minimum lag it is usually pretty easy to run across.

With medium to high lag it is much more difficult.

Other things that help: (1) be sure to start on top of firepot; (2) time the bobbing effect in levitate, start running on the "up" bounce; (3) have a troll or ogre sit on the floor at the edge of the south platform, in your path to run to the east platform, and go "over" them; (4) be sure to look up while you are running.

the deal on this is follow what above has to say about lag if you still cant do it its do to video lag on your comp. solution have some on that can do the run over run your toon over or if you have a cleric and you really wabt over there let yourself die near stairs and have a party member drag corpse across and rezz you back in...i say this from experience i have two comps the one i can run across np even with a second account on eqw and the old one that wont do it no way no how

Just in case your shaman is a gimp and dies in HS with no cleric around when the Dusty Skull drops, have a rogue loot it, it can be MQ'd for the turnins to the Heirophant and Oracle using sneak/hide.

heh... nevermind. a 59 necro friend of mine helped me with this. had a heck of a lot of HP on it, but it seems to me it was no more difficult than most mobs in HS, which i finally found a group to help me get the skulls in only the night before.
everything appears to be working fine, it all went off without a hitch. if it was broken before, it's fine now.

It Worked!!!
# Aug 19 2002 at 8:28 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know if the quest is still broken or not but it did succeed for me. I had with me a 56 monk, 51 ranger and warrior, 2-51 druids and 40 somthing enchanter. After reading the posts here and at www.championsofcabilis.com I thought to try a different approach. On one side of Oracle Quilan out of agro range I had the enchanter set up on side, and the melee and healers on the other side out of agro range. Once set up I made my turn in. Needless to say it went downhill from there, (plans never survive contact with the enemy.) Anyhow I was dead right off the bat, but pulled the Arisen Iksar out far enough to not have the meleels get killed by the oracle. Fortunately, I bound myself in zone. The enchanter went down about 10 seconds after me. Don't know if the melees used disciplines or not, but the druid was able to keep the alive long enough to make the kill. I looted the wet skull fragments and B-lined it to the Oracle. I wasn't sure if it was the same spawn of the oracle or a respawn or not, but he was standing over the enchanter corpse. I turned in the skull fragments and voila, I got the note. Made the rest of the turn ins and I got the Skyiron Cudgel of the Arisen. If the quest is still broken, I can only assume that breaking the normal procedure of the oracle is what saved me from making another trip to Howling Stones.

It wasn't pretty, but it worked. I'll take it anyway I can.

(pardon the grammar, i know its bad)

Well Joe from California, that was rather pointless.
--
Anyways, if this thing is STILL broke, just get everyone you can to bug report and petition everyday. same thing as the Xxhin was saying. They'll fix it to shut everyone up.
--
Personally I think they really don't care about the bugs, I mean heck they already have our money. You mean you want them to do actual customer service to?! Man what planet were you born on. Oh well I'll prolly be slaped on the hand for saying that. Evidently they take great pride in their work, and I personally don't mind a broken quest... WHEN THEY FIX THEM or at least TRY to fix it and acknowledge they know it's broken. Or hey... Flag the NPC's.

I thought I was the only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had those damn bone fragments for almsot a month. When I killed teh arisen iksar it took me and my 59 shaman friend over 20 min to do and by that time quin despawned from the shore and respawned back against the cliff, I assumed we jsut took to long so have been trying for anotehr skull. glad to see I don't have to!!!

Maby teh reason this quest and a few of the quests befor this one are down is because tehy are upgrading them? well it's a hope, oribably not knowing VI it'd more likly be a nerf but it would be ausome if they did amke it better.
STILL BROKE
# Jun 22 2002 at 12:43 AM Rating: Default
As of today STILL bugged, Confirmed by GM-ADMIN Daleynn on innoruuk server thAt Oracle Qulin in FoB is NOT accepting the WET SKULL FRAGMENTS, thus not returning the note for you to give to Granix in Cabilis. I must say i am personally disapointed that i was merely told that he was the wrong npc, or that it was a faction issue, or just plain ignorance in most parts by the majority of the customer service people in game.
Cmon peaople...just fix your problem so others can enjoy what they have sought after since lvl 1.
Heck ..ive been doin this quest so long , i remember having to wait for them to patch the mosquito wing drops ..as they were not dropping ... just goes to show ya

# Jun 07 2002 at 4:35 PM Rating: Decent
Oracle Qulin in FoB will not accept the wet skull fragments from me. He does give them back though.
Have petitioned and /bug reported and even emailed server GM .... was told the issue would be adressed next patch, and also was told the only item on Qulins quest acceptance is the dusty skull...been at all this for 2 weeks now at least, and a few patches later...have the iksar relics in the bank and guild awaiting my word to help me finish it. Hopefully will be fixed soon, but as of now confirmed broked by gms

One thing the CoC site fails to mention is that there is a little "skit" of sorts you need to sit through before rushing into battle venril sathir for the 8th cudgel. A few seconds after VS first spawns, so do the squad of 4 Arisen. If not bothered, VS will despawn into a "swirling bag of bones". Shortly thereafter Rile (kos to non-iksar) will spawn, he and VS will fight, Rile will die. The bag of bones is back, THEN it's your turn. I got to find this all out the hard way, losing my first box of iksar relics, and boy did that suck for a cr.
