You say, 'Hail, Hibbs Rootenpaw'

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'Hello! I am Hibbs Rootenpaw, Master Druid of the Storm Reapers. If you have not yet ventured beyond Rivervale beware of the [dangers] that lurk through out the lands beyond our shire. There are many evil beings that would not hesitate to end the life of a young druid of the Storm Reapers.'

You say, 'What dangers?'

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'The Teir'Dal, or Dark Elves, to the east have slain a number of brave Storm Reapers that are attempting to cleanse the Nektulos Forest of the corruption caused by the Teir'Dals evil magics. To the west, the human farmers in the Plains of Karana are beset upon by vicious tribes of Gnolls and must valiantly defend their farms. Closer to home the Death Fist Orcs and Goblin Clans Runnyeye and Pick Claws all attempt to control the Misty Thicket and chop down its sturdy trees for lumber. If you are planning on leaving the safety of Rivervale I advise you to deliver this note to Bartle Barnick. He will help you get yourself outfitted for survival in the wilds. When he has outfitted you in a suit of protective leather return here for [further instruction].'

You say, 'What further instruction?'

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'If you feel you are ready for the responsibility of an important task then you may assist with the [investigation] of the ancient cursed fields in the Misty Thicket. The crumbling walls that surround the cursed fields are believed to have been constructed around the same time as the ruined tower and the great wall of Cetelt. We Storm Reapers believe that the walls once surrounded beautiful and fruitful gardens. The arrogance of the caretaker of the gardens offended the Gods and in turn the gardens were cursed with disease and an evil power that animates the corpses of the dead. The Scarecrow, Old Gourdhead, stands in one of these two fields and warns passers by that it is an accursed place. Recently someone has been placing rats in the fields to become diseased.'

You say, 'What investigation?'

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'We Storm Reapers are searching for the culprit that is seeding the cursed fields with the diseased and undead creatures. The person responsible has committed great offenses to the ways of Karana and the people of Rivervale and must be stopped. Should you identify the individual responsible slay them and bring their head to me and you shall be rewarded for your deed. It is a shame that our otherwise peaceful lives must occasionally be interrupted by the necessity for bloodshed.'

The culprit is Rusbek the Inhospitable, who may be found in the southeast corner of Misty Thicket. Kill him and loot Rusbek's Head, which you then give to Hibbs Rootenpaw.

Hibbs Rootenpaw says 'Excellent work young Storm Reaper. It is sad that one of our own would resort to such vile acts; his mind must have been twisted by evil desires. Such behavior is practically unheard of among the kind people of Rivervale. Take this dull scimitar and sharpen it in the forge here at the Tagglefoots Farm with a sharpening stone. It may take several attempts if you are unfamiliar with the process. Once that is done give the sharpened scimitar and a large fruit bat wing to Bodbin Gimple and he will put the finishing touches on what will be a fitting scimitar for a Druid of the Storm Reapers.'

You receive a Dull Storm Reaper Scimitar, which you should sharpen in a forge with a Sharpening Stone to craft a Sharpened Storm Reaper Scimitar. Hand this in to Bodbin Gimple, along with a Large Fruit Bat Wing.

Bodbin Gimble fashions a grip out of the large fruit bat wing then tests and polishes the blade of the scimitar. 'Yer another one of Hibbs' trainees I suppose. This here's a fine weapon for a young Druid of the Storm Reapers like yerself.'

Changed Era from LoY to PoP
# Apr 22 2017 at 8:59 PM Rating: Excellent
Per April 19, 2017 patch:

- Several Planes of Power era quests that were restricted to Lost Dungeons of Norrath have been changed so that they are restricted to Planes of Power. Some examples include the Restock High Quality Ore quests, the Storm Reaper Initiate Scimitar quest, and the Mace of the Stoutdeacon quest.

Though no one really do these newbie quests because of the defiant items that are out there; I thought I would pass along that this quest will still give xp but the weapon has only a 31 delay with no damage. It also reads "this item will gain full power when the Planes of Power expansion is available.

well I'm a lvl 9 druid and I thought what the heck I'll give this one a go...nothing to lose at this lvl :)....I trained all of them to RV zone (root on Ruzbek failed =/)...zoned and when I came back there he was all by his lonesome 'camping' zone!!! what an opportunity I thought...I rooted and nuked him as much as I could until root wore off, then began the melee...had to zone back into RV a couple of times...medded again then rinse and repeat (I kept praying that he'd stay right by zone without his two lovely pets!). Well eventually I won yipee!!!
Solo at 9th lvl
# Dec 26 2002 at 5:31 AM Rating: Decent
I did this solo as a lvl 9 Druid, no twinks! I all have to say is remember the old saying, "Divide and Conquer". I did get killed the first time but the second time I snared one pet and paniced the other and ran far away from them. I then kited the first Wolf around until it died and then went back for the other. After the other was dead I medded back to full and kited and rooted old Rusbek till he was running for his life and then it was all over. Hail me if you would like to see it.

Finally!
# Aug 19 2002 at 9:47 AM Rating: Decent
OK here it is - I started a Druid this weekend and made every mistake possible and had to do it 3 times but finished it. I could mez the dogs and then nuked one, trained it to the guards, repeat for Cozy. The guards will not kill him so you could train all three at once but he will hit you as you go. I had buffs up and a healer helping me, easy kill that way. Only had 3 hp at end but a win is a win. Took the head back, got the sword, got the sharpening stone and sharpened. Go to the hill to the left of the gate to second area, near gob camp. Lg fruit bat goes there a lot. RARE drop. I gave the wing and sword to the wrong guy and got a thank you, nothing else. Finally got another wing and got my sword!

Did this last night at 11th and with no problems. I first rooted Rusbek at the farest range I could. Then turned and ran to guards with the dogs in hot pursuit. Finished off first dog and zoned, medded up and did the same thing with the second dog chasing me. Finished it off and zoned and medded up. Went back and rooted Rusbek again and nuked him as much as possible. Then I casted Snare and Flame Lick and closed to finish him off. All three Roots stuck and running away helped him "forget" about me I guess, as he never showed up when I was working on the dogs.

This quest stinks. I handed in by mistake a giant fruit bat wing and the sharpened scimitar. The vendor handed back the wing and stole the sword. He said he had no use for the wing. ******* vendor stole my quest sword. :(

He didnt steal the sword. he was holding on to it, waiting for the large fruit bat wing to complete the item set. you can see this in other quests where you give items to NPCs. they just wait for all to be turned in before doing anything.
try giving them one at a time and you might finish the quest with less needed items.

Strategy for killing Rusbek
# Apr 28 2002 at 2:13 PM Rating: Default
I helped my friend (level 10 druid) complete his weapon quest today with my 8 halfling ranger. It took a couple tries (and deaths) but we succeeded. First of all, don't try to solo this guy. He stands outside the Lil Honeybugger's hut with his two dogs Rufus and Cozy. Rufus conned blue at level 8 and Cozy was white. All three mobs are right next to each other so harmony wont work. So here is what we did: first, my friend rooted Rusbek and kept rooting him with a couple nukes in between while I finished off the two dogs. Cozy, the higher con, hits for 18 max. Once these two were finished, we both went in to melee Rusbek to death. He cons red at 8 and he is much to hard to solo unless you can somehow kite him like a level 14 druid (which you can't at this level). This is where we made a mistake. My advice is to have the druid snare Rusbek and run back while shooting arrows and nuking until down to half health. Now both run in and melee him. Be careful, he double hits for 24 max and whatever you do, DONT TURN AROUND. He will backstab for about 50, and at that level its a lot. Once Rusbek is down to about 1/8 health, he'll start running, and hopefully he is still snared. Good luck killing him, the reward is great).

Cool New Quest

I love the new quest in Misty. This is my favorite...It took me sooo long to find the Large fruit bat wing, lol. But the traitor-killing part is the best. It exercises the skills that a druid will need his whole life...at level 10. I did at level 12. first did grasping roots on each, then Ignite(35dd) on Ruzbek a few times, then Damage Shielded em to death. Cool low level wep, +wis scimitars are hard to come by.

I Had Help
# Apr 18 2002 at 3:50 AM Rating: Decent
I did it today as level 10 druid with a level 8 Rogue.....kind of. We two little halflings decided to be all crazy and try to kill Rusbeck and Rufus & Cozy. I had all my buffs up plus harmony, snare, and fire spells. Oh boy.

So, obviously I began with harmony, but here's where things went horribly awry: my charisma is way too low to work any mes spells, so harmony not only failed, but the rogue got toasted right away by Cozy. Rufus and Rusbeck decided they liked me way better, so they both attacked me simultaneouly and I was a goner. The odd part was how I kept going unconscious and then getting back up without any heals from anywhere...hmmmm. Anyhow, as it's right by the Halfling respawn point, my rogue buddy ran back over there each time he got killed, and another gent (I'm sorry, but I cannot remember who, although he had a last name) was babysitting us. I went back for my body, and by the time my laggy comp allowed me to finish looting, everyone was dead. I actually got in the killing blow on both dogs, but it was magic.

Anyhow, the point is that with a really low charisma do not expect to ever be able to get any member of that unholy trio alone, and go in with a couple low level friends.....just remember to go back before they regen.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 24 2002 at 11:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Harmony is NOT a mez spell. It reduces aggro and assist range. If it didnt work then the 3 mobs are too close together. Charisma has nothing to do with it. Harmony is considered a buff so you do not get aggro after it wears off, nor can it be resisted.
RE: I Had Help
# Mar 28 2004 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
Sorry, but you are wrong. Harmony IS affected by Charisma. Just because the spell goes in your victims buff box, doesn't mean CHA doesn't affect. CHA has been confirmed by SOE to affect Lull line spells, (Including Harmony,) Charm line spells (except dire charm,) and ALL bard resists. It may very well be the case that the "unholy trio" was too close together, but that is not neccesarily the reason, newbie druids have the charisma of a tire iron, and shouldn't except any of their "mind" spells to work very well.

EDIT: Hehe, it is kinda like hitting a deadman...I responded to a nearly two year old post. Doesn't invalidate what I said, but hardly a pressing issue..../blush

I did it solo at 10/11
# Apr 13 2002 at 10:33 PM Rating: Excellent
I was affraid I'd get my butt whooped by Ruzbek and his buddies going solo, but as druids we have the skills needed:)

I started by harmony/snare/nuke and fear kite the puppies separately. That drained my mana to near nothing, but still had almost full HP.

At that moment I sat and med to full. The puppies didnt re-spawn at any point in the process. I then proceeded to the hut and kited Ruzbek out of his hut. Through the whole process I kept all buffs up except shield of thistles for mana conservation reasons. When I ran out of mana kiting Ruzbek, I just proceeded to hack away. He only lasted a few hits before he started walking away for his life ;) hehe

I only had the new armor and leather for the rest of the gear. I dont think its possible at lvl 8 only because of the lack of spells to use. Hope you find it as easy as I did.

I dunno...It might be possible at level 8; You have root, snare, Burst of fire, flame lick, harmony... could be done, but you'd get some resists for sure I think.

The Traitors name is:

Rusbek the Inhospitable found at -981, -2331, -3
with the guards Rufus and Cozy pretty sure they will agro if your closer to their level.

He's got about 350 hit points or very close. He drops "Rusbek's Head" (doh forgot to get screen pic).

Forget the exact name, but it begins with R the Inhospitable over by the Hunnybugers. Has two wolves named Cozy and Rufus. Don't think of running to the guards for help either. He's about 10th lvl tops and is melee.
