You say, 'Hail, Broker Fahaar'

Broker Fahaar says 'Hello _____, if you know any citizens looking for work please tell them to show me their acrylia slate.

Broker Fahaar says 'Excellent, I can always use someone eager to work. I require young rockhopper hides to stretch for some special tailoring projects. Combine in this sack the hides of four young rockhoppers and return to me the full hopperhide sack, I will give you a stretched hide in return. '

Place 4 young rockhopper hides in sack and combine.

Broker Fahaar says 'Very nice, I thank you _____. Here is the stretched hide I promised, and a leather cord I made from the scraps. If you have no need for the hide itself, any merchant will purchase it from you. If you desire to become my apprentice, save four of the cords that you earn from me and return them when you desire to learn more. May the spirits guide and protect you!

You gain experience!!

Fill 3 more sacks to get a total of 4 leather cords.

Broker Fahaar says 'So you wish to learn the way of the Vah Shir tailors, do you? I assure you it is among the most difficult to master of any of the great Vah Shir disciplines, but one of the most rewarding as well. If you truly wish to learn how to manipulate fabrics and materials of all types you'll have to start with a basic task. Take this Vah Shir skinning knife and use it to cut a [belt strap]. Once you feel that you've mastered that task, bring me an example of your work and the Vah Shir skinning knife I gave you and we'll start you on some needle work. '

You gain experience!!

You say, 'What belt strap?'

Broker Fahaar says 'Belt straps are cut from medium quality rockhopper hides. Just take the knife and cut a strap out of a good section in the hide. The medium quality hides are nice and tough, but you have to search a bit to find a decent strip in the material. Good luck with it.'

Rough Belt Strap is mq rockhopper hide plus Vah Shir Skinning Knife in tailoring kit - trivial is 36.

Broker Fahaar briefly glances at the strap and throws it over his shoulder. He then says, 'I can tell it's hurried work, but it will do. I supposed you're ready to learn some needlework. The needlework really makes the belt. Here, this needle set will allow you to learn the basics of our trade. You'll want to practice on some [Black Chitin Belts] and some [Bone Beaded Belts]. Bring me one example of each of these and your needle set to show me that you've mastered the basics of this sort of needlework. If your work is good enough you might be able to sell a piece or two as well. '

You gain experience!!

You say, 'What Black Chitin Belt?'

Broker Fahaar says 'Black chitin belts are made by using the Vah Shir needle set and a Shade Silk to thread some sections of scorpion carapace onto a rough belt strap. The belts look great and they are rumored to make you feel stronger. You'll want to use the Vah Shir needle set I just gave you wth the silk, as normal needles will most likely break off if you try to push them through a scorpion carapace. '

You say, 'What Bone Beaded Belt?'

Broker Fahaar says 'Bone beaded belts are made by threading grimling finger bones onto a rough belt strap with a Shade silk thread. The bones are often tough to pierce, so you'll have to use your Vah Shir needle set on them. Be careful not to poke yourself. '

Black Chitin Belt is rough belt strap, scorpion shell, shade silk thread, and Vah Shir Needle Set in tailoring kit - trivial is > 47.

Bone Beaded Belt is rough belt strap, grimling fingerbone, shade silk thread, and Vah Shir Needle Set in tailoring kit - trivial is > 40.

Broker Fahaar says 'You're getting better, _____, these are very well done. I believe you're ready to take the acrylia needle that is so necessary to our work. With this needle you'll be able to pierce even the toughest hides almost effortlessly, as well as to stitch the most delicate fabrics without tearing them. The first thing you should work on with this needle are some [Owlbear feathered leggings]. When you have managed to fashion a set of these,
bring them to me with your acrylia needle and I'll provide the final tool for your journey toward master tailor. '

Owlbear Feathered Leggings are owlbear feather, sonic wolf pelt, 2 shade silk threads, and acrylia needle in tailoring kit - trivial is >90. You turn in the Owlbear Feathered Leggings and the Acrylia Needle and then he gives you back the Acrylia Needle and Thimble Set.

Broker Fahaar says 'Well done, _____. These leggings are truly the work of an aspiring master tailor. I have just received word from the palace that the king is planning a celebration in the near future, and he wishes the guards to have new uniforms. Take this case and fill it with owlbear hide tunics and take it to Elder Hymnist Hortitosh on the roof of the palace. I'm sure the king will be pleased with your work. '
You gain experience!!

You receive a Clothing Case.

You say, 'What owlbear hide tunic?'

Broker Fahaar says 'Owlbear hide tunics are notoriously difficult to make; you'll need to use your acrylia needle to sew two owlbear hides together. You'll need two lengths of Shade Silk thread for the stitching, as well as a tunic pattern. '

Owlbear Hide Tunic is 2 owlbear pelts, 2 shade silk threads, tunic pattern, and acrylia needle - trivial is 135. Combine 6 Tunics in the Clothing Case to make a Case of Guard Uniforms. Hand it to Elder Hymnist Hortitosh.

You say, 'Hail, Elder Hymnist Hortitosh'

Elder Hymnist Hortitosh says 'These are finely crafted indeed, _____. Merchant Fahaar told me you were quite the prodigy, but don't tell him I told you that. Take this receipt and show it to Fahaar and tell him the king is quite pleased with both your work, and his teaching! '

You gain experience!!

You receive Order Receipt. Give it to Broker Fahaar.

Broker Fahaar says 'Well done, _____. You have done very well and the king is pleased. You have been a great help to me filling that order for the king. Here, take this jerkin and wear it with pride. All who see it will know that you are an accomplished tailor and a friend of Fareen! '

You gain experience!!

Receive Sleek Sonic Wolf Hide Tunic.

Making the Owlbear Tunic
# Sep 21 2020 at 12:20 AM Rating: Good
I made 2 with the first acrylia needle before going back to Broker Fahaar to turn in the legs. You turn in the Owlbear Feathered Leggings and you hand in the Acrylia Needle and he gives you back the Acrylia Needle and Thimble Set. I made the other four tunics with the new set and did the combine in the clothing case just fine. I made another Rough Belt Strap and handed that in with the Vah Shir skinning knife to see if it was possible to get the first needle back. Did not get it back.

I wonder that you already have the Vah Shir Needle Set that it blocks you from getting any of the needle sets. Only way to test that is to destroy your Vah Shir Needle Set and then do it again to see if if you get it.

I just started EQ recently, and am in Shar Vahl trying to do the tailoring quest from Broker Fahaar. He says to get 4 rockhopper hides and put them in the bag and give it back to him. So I killed rockhoppers in the pit, put the hides into the bag, and tried to give it to him. He doesnt accept it, so I see there is a combine button in the bag, so I click it (that seemed to work for another quest) - it says "cannot combine items in this contain type" !! I tried getting a new bag from him (destroying that bag), and same thing happens...
Whats the deal? What am I missing?

Hi!

Another possibility is that your not a Shar Vahl citizen. You may have to do the Citizenship quest.

1. Make sure it is the right type of hide (i belive its the one on the list of quest items "Young Rockhopper Hide").
2. Make sure there not stacked on each other.

If that dosn't fix it you could try to /bug or /petition it

ok little trick to get a acylia slate to do the quest even if your not a vah shir, make a noob vah shir warrior go hand in letter to guildmaster get letter to the regester hand her the note get tax record not signed go get it signed and turn in to regester then log to person who wants the slate, ok now head guy who hands out the acylia slates and say to him "i need a personal acylia slate" poof one will form in your hand, almost done, now hand the regester the slate an wa la ya get the slate and note. now you can finish or you can just go use the new slate to do the talioring or pottery quest even the fletching one.

to finish just run note to king then note from him to regester and last note from her to guildmaster your noob dummy got the note from also hand him the slate as well as the letter!

hope this helps anyone not wanting to wast a lot of money tradskilling cuse its cheap to do just very time consuming.

I am a DE necro. I did this....got the slate...got the bag....filled it with young rockhoppper hides...all was right with the world. Unfortunately when I hit combine nothing happened. I figured I was bugged so I logged and rebooted and tried again, still nothing. I deleted the first bag and got a second...same problem. The GM I petitioned did not seem to know what was up so I have reported via /bug and /feedback. Has anyone else had this problem?

One last thing. For another full writeup of this quest, look on www.eqtraders.com, Click the Quests button (left side of screen, lower section), then click on Luclin Quests, then on Progressive Tailoring Quest. Will give full details on the trivs, whom to speak to, and what they want you to give them.

My experience with young rockhoppers is this. Kill everything and anything on the west center side of the pit. EVERYTHING. With a level 20 Beastlord and pet, is extremely easy.

But, kill everything. Decaying skeletons spawn the grimling skeletons. Scorpions spawn Fangtail (think that is his name. Named yellow scorpion, used for the warrior weapon quest). Needle claw rockhoppers spawn the young rockhoppers. The bugs don't seem specifically to spawn anything, but since there seems to be a max number of mobs that can spawn in the pit, kill them too, so more can spawn.

Go nuts, have fun. Then, you can loot like crazy. Keep the grimling fangs from the runts (for the progressive fletching quest), the grimling femurs from the grimling skeletons (also for the fletching quest) the xakra teeth from the xakra larva (again, fletching quest) as well as the xakra bile (for the pottery quest) and the grey mud from the mud (for the pottery quest). As well, keep your class specific items (if not sure, just loot anything you find. Look it up later, selling off anything you do not need for some small cash, using what you need to progress all the tradeskills you feel you want).

A good rule of thumb is this. If it is no-drop, it is quest related. If it is stackable, and not no-drop, is probably not quest related, but will net you a small amount of gold, so keep it anyway.

Hope this helps you out! And, when someone is killing this way, ask them if you can have a specific spawn type, before jumping in and taking whatever you want. Had someone stealing my young rockhopper spawns the other night while I was killing everything to spawn them. Annoyed me to no end. But if you ask, chances are, the person will be looking for something else, and will tell you go ahead and loot up.

Beetles, Live grimlings, Young Rockhoppers, and Scorpions are on one spawn table.
Decaying Skeleton, Grimling Skeleton, Whiptail Scorpion are on the other.

Focus on one spawn table's members to get more mobs from that spawn table to spawn.

Q+A
# May 01 2003 at 9:58 AM Rating: Decent
When you hand in the item you make, you need to also hand in the tool used. You will get it back and another tool for the next quest. My question is how do you get Grimling Finger Bones? It seems that grimlings are nowhere to be found in the Moor and I am not confident enough to try grimling forest. I have gotten the war message for the grimlings but it seem others in zone are doing other parts of the war. The whole war thing is annoying to say the least.

Grimling Runts can generally be found in the pit around Shar Vahl. You won't find them right by the bridges though, you have to do some running around the side. These seem rare because there aren't that many to begin with and so if someone is doing this quest they will generally be wiping them out left and right (they're only level 3-4...something like that). They do drop the finger bones on occasion. Hope that helps.
RE: Q+A
# Jun 22 2003 at 12:57 AM Rating: Decent
On very rare occasions (like after a patch) you can find grimlings in the pit, its rare so I'm not sure if they drop them, but they do drop blood (pottery quest). Otherwise you have to either find some grimlings during the war, or during one of the very brief respites between wars.

Stretched hides...

Any use for the 4 Stretched Rockhopper Hides you get in the beginning of the quest? I have the 4 Cords to continue, but I also have the Hides and before I sell them I was wondering if they have any tailoring value, or for any other reason?

More Tips that may help you.
# Sep 25 2002 at 11:52 PM Rating: Excellent
OK, since I'm almost done with this, I'll throw a few tips, maybe if you don't already know these.

1. As someone said, killing other mobs in the pit will spawn Young Rockhoppers. specifically Beetles and Scorpions, but not the whiptail scorpions, the beetles and scorpions are placeholders. The larvae are not placeholders either.

2. In Hollowshade Moore, the mobs change depending on the "Hollowshade War" status. There's a war between Owlbears, Grimlings and Wolves. Depending on who's winning, or who someone helped win, may change which mobs are up where.

3. Grimling finger bones aren't as rare as you may think, about the same as the owlbear feathers, I've found. You just have to kill the right grimlings. The ones in the Grimling villiage near the Grimling Chieftain, Chieftan in particular drop fingers often. Yeah these are much higher level mobs, like 30's and yes they are in groups, but they drop fingers much more than the ones on the island. Also, if Grimlings inhabit the owlbear caves, those in the back by Gleeknot also drop fingers. AND NO the skeletons don't drop the fingers, the LIVE grimlings do.

4. If you've read this, then you know to keep any and all Owlbear Pelts, Sonic Wolf Pelts, etc, but I'd also recommend any new players who are low level, to READ as many Beastlord quests as you can. You NEED the Sonic Wolf Bane weapons later, make sure you collect tendons, kelp salts and oily rags as well. You'll need a lot of them. I'm assuming most of you reading this are Beastlord tailors working on tailoring, these quests may be done by other races if you exploited the MQ citizenship. Not sure how Verant feels about that, but it looks like an exploit to me.

Lastly, Do NOT expect to do this at level 10-30. I'm level 36 now, at least Clawdette my Beastlord is. Many of the mobs are difficult for me. You can start on the lower level parts, but this isn't really a newbie quest, it's a progressive quest. I think it's great cause it almost tells you which mobs to kill in which sequence. As you go up in levels, you kill the next mobs that you need for the quest. Most of all, have fun with it. BTW, when you're killing off the grimlings, hang on to your acrylia as well, you can use that in your tailoring later, or have a nice tailor make you some great Acrylia studded or reinforced armor. It takes a lot of space, so if you can get a smith to make it into studs or boning, it'll stack better. Boning trivials at about 53 or so I think, so don't practice with it unless you're smithing is high enough.

Another tailoring tip, outside the scope of this quest, you can get your tailoring to about 80+ or so making "greyhopper hide" armor. These are located in Marus Seru, and this is a great zone for 20+ groups. If you can get a full group with an enchanter preferably, you can pull 5 to 8 mobs at a time. Most people don't even know what the greyhopper hides are for, so you should bet your pick of them if you ask politely. By the way, get the Greyhopper Hide, not the Low Quality Greyhopper Hides, though you can get your tailoring to like 40 or something making bags with those if you want. Check out eqtraders.com for more details on recipes, etc.

MQ it. Have another account/friend start a level new cat. They start their registration quest. But "you" get an acrylia slate. They turn in the tax papers first, then you turn in the slate, you get the note for the king back and you finish off the quest, VOILA, you are a citizen now and can do quests in Shar Vahl.

# May 04 2002 at 6:48 AM Rating: Default
I can't say for sure as I have yet to try any tailoring, but I had the same trouble with a different trade skill and it was because I was stacking pieces. If you're stacking the silk threads, try putting them in seperately (1 per slot) if possible and see if that helps

A little update on Grimling Fingerbone.....

I loot one (it is rare indeed, I cleared many grimling huts and looted only one), and the place is south of the Moor zone (aka Grimling Main Camp according to www.eqatlas.com). The mob I loot the fingerbone from is called Grimling Soldier, but I still believe other grimlings have chance to drop the fingerbone too.

i'm sorry, but if i remember correctly, you can't do the citizen quest in shar vahl if you are not a vah shir. However, i am not 100% sure on this. There is an easy step to double quest the citizenship quest very early on. (one of the items you need you get merely by saying a key phrase, while a new BL a friend of yours creates gets to the point in which they were supposed to be the one doing it.) for information on what part, and probably for a confirmation either wya on if other races can complete it should be on the info on the citizenship quest. hope this helps.

Well I'm an Ogre and had no problem getting citizenship... get your friend to start a Vahr Shir of your class. Get him to do the citizenship quest up to the point that you get the acrylia slate. Instead of him getting it, you get it. When it then comes to the point in the quest to hand in the slate and the stamped scroll, get your friend to hand in the scroll after which you then hand in your slate and get the document instead. From there you can finish off the quest, via the king and your guild leader in shar vahl. Having completed the quest you can start this one easily... I am now up to the elusive find of a grimling fingerbone, which could be tricky as the owlbears currently rule the whole zone following a Hollowshade war... Well I can only assume it'll reset sometime and I'll finish off the quest. Until then I guess I'll just have to farm some nice Owlbear pelts...

Since the new patch there is no more grimlings in the moor, it seems the sonic wolves have wiped them out. I tried grimlings in grimling forest but none of them seem to drop the fingers. Is this quest now broken because of this? Anybody else have this problem?
RE: AHHHHH
# Apr 17 2002 at 5:26 AM Rating: Default
Yes, there are still grimlings in the Moor. They are at south area of the zone. I DID loot a finger before, but too bad I destroyed the finger before I begin this quest today =(. Try those walking grimlings near the spawn places of Moor turtles.
By the way, the reason I went there is to find Grimling Shaman due to their "Poison Dart" for my beastlord quest after the apprentice cloak & reinforced claws. However, there are NO grimling shamans, and a druid can't track a single grimling shaman near the grimling camps in Moor =(

I will give basic helpful advice with a few tidbits of additional information. Not to sidetrack you too much. personally, I will suggest that all those interested in completing this quest also use eqtraders.com's tailoring menus for both normal and Luclin tailoring lists. As some of the items (young rockhoppers hides) are hard to obtain.

So here we go on how to get this item and become a master tailor.

First off, just go to Broker Fahaar (he is located in that small area between the arena/water pool and the entrance to the palace courtyard) and hail him, hand him the Acrylia slate. Get a bag (so you can use it to collect items in to build up cash. Then collect silk (as much as Vah Shiringly <humanly> possible)
Secondly: There is a quest involving the female Vah Shir where the tailoring LOOM is (use the LOOM to make silk threads) gaining a little xp and also building your skill. Ask a kind person in game to help you if unable to find the loom. It is on the second floor in one of the six outer buildings surrounding the arena.
Third: Now once around level 4 or five you can start to kill young rockhoppers. I learned a little trick about the spawn now try to take my directions (hope this works for you as it did me)
when you go down the hill by the bridge where the guard is underneath.... go to the LEFT past the lighted rock formation and only hunt in that general area just beyond that marker point. I noticeed they spawn like crazy in that part of the zone only. do not go past the other bridge even if the odd one spawns there. Most of the young ones spawn where I've told you.
Once completed, you may need to still work on your skill so hopefully by this time you have at least 20 skill (from training or working silk threads in silk rope too)

Now comes the fun part getting to venture out into Shadeweavers Thicket. Hope you have not falling asleep yet (play a good song to keep awake) you need to venture out following the road to the right where the single guard is (there is a marker flag of some sort as well. You may see the odd Hopper there but the majority of them spawn on a invisible highway (1000 to neg1000 first loc and neg1800 second loc)just to the left of the main road.

Remember to buy a large sewing kit by this time (don't waste yer money on a small one - that'd be like a Dwarf wearing large sized armor) they only cost 2pp at most. In the second building to the right of the entrance to Shar Vahl is also a tailoring vendor (how convienent-grin) he also give you a small quest for more xp.
buy the supplies you need and use up all those damaged hides for skill until trivial.

***the other building is a bank so until you complete quest you can do everything in this zone. Now you know why I love this zone ;o)

Okay back to reality -- kill, maim and kill hoppers. If you need cash sell the HQ ones or stock up for when you reach higher skill. The new TLC or Trivial Loot Code can make it hard to get these HQ hides later in levels. remember to consult your eqtraders tailoring lists to make yourself some good armor and the other items dropped but the saurek's are good for armor quests too so good luck.

ThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyou

I have been working desperately to get my tailoring skills up for this and the beastlord recruit quest. I had not been able to find info on tailoring with Luclin-specific items, even though I had been to eqtraders.com.

Do I turn the skinning knife in with the rough belt strap? When I give him only the strap, he returns it to me and tells me he doesn't need it.

Broker Fahaar is located btween the double walls going to the area where the castal is; he in is at the end of the dead end, by the other merechent that does the pottery quest. Also to answer the question about Grimling fingerbone they drop from the grimling which are not skeltions. A word of warning you need magic weapons to do damage to them they are found by the water. Follow the Walls East than go North when you come to the dwater the Island are where are roaming.
