In Acrulia Caverns there is a Ring of Torches. Stepping into this ring of torches will start a spawn cycle which gets progressively harder as the spawns progress.

When a person enters the ring, a number of untargetable, unnamed Grimlings will appear around the room, and a Grimling Warder will appear in the hallway to the room. None of these Grimlings can be targetted or attacked.

The purpose of the Grimling Warder is stop being from entering or exiting the room. If you try to pass the warder when he is up, he will port you to a pit of Lava in the Dungeon. Your entire raid force needs to be in the room from the start to the finish.

The grimlings will summon undead type monsters on a progressing level of difficulty. Every 20 Minutes, a boss monster will appear, and then the quest will get more difficult than the ring before.

If your party or raiding force leaves the ring, the quest will reset, ending spawns and making you start again at the beginning.

The first round is two (warrior) possessed corpses every 2 Minutes. Then a possessed battlelord will appear as the boss.

The second round is two (warrior/shadowknight) possessed corpses every 1.5 Minutes. A possessed battlemaster will mark the next round.

The third round is two (warrior/shadowknight) possessed corpses every 1 minute. A Possessed Warmonger is the boss.

The 4th round is three possessed corpses every minute, A Possessed Warlord is the boss, who can drop significant loot. He flurries and has quite a few more HP than the previous bosses.

The 5th round has level 55 possessed corpses which cannot be mesmerized or stunned. Two to three of them will appear every 45 to 60 seconds.

The first three rings can be done by a group for XP. It's reccommended to have a raiding party handy to go past the 4th boss.

The ring of fire was removed from Acrylia in the zone update of April 2003, although it remains active on the Al'Kabor server.

WoW ToV looks like misty thicket compared to that BS!! good luck to all who try.. youll need it!

coincadently, they buffed the hell out of this quest, the mobs are much more difficult than they used to be. it is now intented to be done by lvl 60 charicters with "lots of aa points" acourding to the patch notes...
i tryed this quest with 7 groups of lvl 57+ people and pretty much got bent over, however it was our first try there...thats when i saw the patch notes
i hope you folks read this
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 05 2002 at 2:43 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you cant go in while quest starts why not have a group of people outside throwing and shooting arrows and stuff at the Mobs? Sure it might be slow but hey the critters probably wont be able to go out so it will work Hehe
Was just there

Ok, didnt make it very far, but here is the info I have. We went there with 1 group just to xp on the first round ... what a suprize we got. Upon entering the ring there was a 1 minute no spawn time, then 3 possessed corpses spawned at once. At least 2 of the 3 were SK's and harm touched our tank, all of them were lvl 50. Within 1 minute after that 3 more spawned, enchanter went down, wizard went down, tank went down, cleric (me) gated (this all within 15 seconds of the next 3 spawning), pally (Slaton) held so I could get gate off. It is way tougher than we could have imagined. We decided not to try again without a bigger group. Hope this helps anyone going to try this :)

how bout pushing the idea ae grps can use mod rods to recover mana why not throw in a cleric to grp heal
add a standard grp tank cleric chanter to hold on the boss guys
if u cant slow down the pop cycle u need to speed up the kill times

well keep throwing in the ideas might try giving them a go sometime

bah, paladins better at group heal, especially on casters. clerics group heals would be a waste of mana
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 22 2002 at 3:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) All this work for this piece of crap ring? Sounds typical of verant to put something like this on such a difficult task. I will stick with my Fishbone Earring. Sure it doesn't have the +3 WIS/INT, but +3 at level 50 is junk.

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 21 2002 at 6:18 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Kind of weird that a post on THIS site dosent have some stupid post about the sleeper. Well, for traditions sakes.. I SOLOED HIM WITH MY RANGER, SLEEPER WAS CREATED BY BRISTLEBANE, HE DROPPED PHAT LOOT.
RoF Testing
# Feb 16 2002 at 12:51 PM Rating: Decent
You cannot despawn mobs with a FD person in the ring.
You cannot CoH in this zone unless you want to take a lava bath if CoH is even working in this zone.
Once the circle is started unless everyone steps out and stops the cycle noone can come into the area you are fighting without taking a lava bath (we started it up during test and lucky me happened to be sitting in a bad spot :) )
Everything we tested to break the spawn times down into manageble group sets was well resisted and noone on our server bothers to do RoF anymore. So until VI sees they nerfed out their zone, I guess we can say goodbye to RoF for a while.

Holy smokes, after the Feb. 13th's patch, Ring of Fire was insane!! We had 22 people in Acrylia Caverns ready to go, we start the thing as usual and we got 3 mobs right off the bat. After the first minute 3 more spawned. Every minute we had 3 more spawn and we couldn't keep up. On the 6th minute, two more normal mobs popped along with the boss mob. After the 4th set, they were CH'ing each other... It was insane... Yes, that was the FIRST wave. Anyone else notice a change?

EDIT: Oh Boss mob was - A Possessed Battlemaster

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 09 2002 at 1:55 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok first, what would happen if a monk stepped into ring and FDed for an hour? bahahaha I know I am twisted but I had to say it. Does anyone know if the mobs will despawn after a certain time not being attacked? I havnt seen this room or any other place in that zone, but it may be worth entertaining the concept of single pulling just the boss mobs out and leaving the drones (if there is room). Just a thought.

wow, maporfic i gotta hand it to ya, those were some quality stupid thoughts. COH doesnt pull L57 mobs to u... it pulls a selected player in your group to you. Only time it will do something like that is when its "disabled" but not all the time

FD does not work (it's been tried =D). Seems any player in the ring is automatically on the mob's hate list when spawned (which included FD characters).

Also, you'd be better off using the skelly spawn cycle for exp than the heros....the heroes are very tough little buggers and also go after the mage as their first task and hit pretty hard....if your mage doesn't mind dying often it might be a good tactic but I'd rather choose doing the 1st ring cycle with a 55+ group than the heroes
5th Boss
# Feb 05 2002 at 2:03 PM Rating: Decent
we made it to the 5th boss. The Paly steped out of ring on the 5th boss we still got wiped out all the extra adds killed us. Lag was terrible we were all shrunk except the Paly in the ring. Casters look towards the wall the lag is less and use your assist keys to target the mobs and assist the mob to heal your tanks.
Getting in after initiation
# Feb 04 2002 at 6:52 PM Rating: Default
You can, in fact, enter the ring after teh quest starts, but it is difficult. You have to either:
1) Have DA up
2) Have a bard use his song to get you in
I reccomend using the bard cause you need a skill to DA another person, and long recast time
Nerfed?
# Feb 03 2002 at 7:05 PM Rating: Default
Well my Guild hasnt gone in a couple weeks, but I was told that it was nerfed and now its almost impossible to get up past the first few rounds. The mobs apparently just aoe cheal and are thougher then they once were. Can anyone confirm/deny this? Last time we had 4 groups of all 55-60 and went to 5th no problem...
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 03 2002 at 6:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ummm, three of four posts down..whats this guy smoking cause i want some.*grins*CotH calls someone who is in your Group from somewhere else in the zone.It DOES not randomly call mobs to attack you.
RE: HAHA
# Feb 12 2002 at 1:11 AM Rating: Good
In certian specific zones CotH is disabled. Not only that but VI decided to be fun about disabling it in specific zones (Grieg's End. Acrylica Caverns. Couple others that I've heard of but haven't confirmed.) so they made it do 'nasty things' if you use the spell.

In one zone you see the message, 'There are no heroes here!' and summons a Grimling Hero to beat on you. (Pretty tough little mob actually.)

In another is says something else and you get pounded on by a different mob.

This is why mages have been ranting to VI about disabling CotH in certian zones. (And with good reason IMO but VI (Absor) has stated that they will not 'Fix' CotH for these zones because, 'We don't want people to be able to skip content that we designed to be viewed...'

hun what he said is right. When ya try CotH they get pissed and you really get a "hero" a Grimling Hero that is.
Mob order / drop list
# Feb 01 2002 at 11:42 AM Rating: Default
Has anyone logged the mob order from the spawns and have the logged what loot drops from which mobs?

Its possible to get an FT7 out of this, and some 30 int and other stats. Need I say great quest.
Shrinking

This is great idea but the room is so small that with all the people you need to get to the higher level bosses, the lag just kills you.

CoH?
# Jan 21 2002 at 9:38 PM Rating: Default
Seems to me they put a fair bit of scripting into this... I just wonder, does CoH work INSIDE the ring? Can a mage outside the ring CoH somebody inside the ring? Just more curiosity than anything.
RE: CoH?
# Jan 31 2002 at 1:35 AM Rating: Default
When you "call a hero" you really "call a hero" when this spell is used in this zone you really call a grimmling hero, a level 57 or so mob not that hard by its self, but if your calling lots of people, be ready for some fun, not totaly sure, but i think it still calls the person you wanted also. easyest way to get an ew person in is to kill then and drag the corpse past the guy and rez them, very easy.
Can't.

Can't bring people in after the quest starts, I hear. They get ported into lava if they try to enter the Ring.

CoH doesn't work in there; cast it and a few Grimling Heroes will beat the heck out of you.
Love the Idea
# Jan 17 2002 at 11:29 AM Rating: Default
I love the Idea behind these spawns. At last the creaters came up with something that breaks the traditional Raid scenario.

I cant wait to get into this fight, even if i get no gear the way this is set up, will mean a great fight, loads of fun, and a tale the bards can sing about for weeks afterwards!

/additional thought

Is there a maximum number of people who can do this at any one time, and is it possible for additional people to join this at any time (i.e. after the 2-3-4th waves??? ) Does CoH work here? Do you have to fight just to get to the torch area?

Its fun for about 15 mins. Its an incredibly boring and repetitive camp. The sound in this area is annoying as hell. Each lvl of ring takes like 20 to 30 mins... so expect to be there awhile to get the 5th boss.
RE: Love the Idea
# Jan 18 2002 at 8:25 AM Rating: Default
Once the sequence starts you can't CoH. When you DO try to CoH the mage will get a snotty message (Something like "If a Hero is what you want, here is your Hero") and a mob called the Grimmling Hero will spawn and start attacking your party.

Once the sequence starts there are warders out front the door that will summon people who try to walk by to the lava pits and they will die. Sneaking classes CAN sneak by.

The best thing to do is have everyone out front and ready to move when the 5th boss spawns. Then have everyone get out of the ring to kill the fifth boss. This will deactivate the warders and the others can move in to help kill the fifth boss. Warning, the area is very small and hard to fit a lot of people. Plus stepping out of the ring will not pop the 6, 7th and so on boss.
