In Acrulia Caverns there is a Ring of Torches. Stepping into this ring of torches will start a spawn cycle which gets progressively harder as the spawns progress.

When a person enters the ring, a number of untargetable, unnamed Grimlings will appear around the room, and a Grimling Warder will appear in the hallway to the room. None of these Grimlings can be targetted or attacked.

The purpose of the Grimling Warder is stop being from entering or exiting the room. If you try to pass the warder when he is up, he will port you to a pit of Lava in the Dungeon. Your entire raid force needs to be in the room from the start to the finish.

The grimlings will summon undead type monsters on a progressing level of difficulty. Every 20 Minutes, a boss monster will appear, and then the quest will get more difficult than the ring before.

If your party or raiding force leaves the ring, the quest will reset, ending spawns and making you start again at the beginning.

The first round is two (warrior) possessed corpses every 2 Minutes. Then a possessed battlelord will appear as the boss.

The second round is two (warrior/shadowknight) possessed corpses every 1.5 Minutes. A possessed battlemaster will mark the next round.

The third round is two (warrior/shadowknight) possessed corpses every 1 minute. A Possessed Warmonger is the boss.

The 4th round is three possessed corpses every minute, A Possessed Warlord is the boss, who can drop significant loot. He flurries and has quite a few more HP than the previous bosses.

The 5th round has level 55 possessed corpses which cannot be mesmerized or stunned. Two to three of them will appear every 45 to 60 seconds.

The first three rings can be done by a group for XP. It's reccommended to have a raiding party handy to go past the 4th boss.

The ring of fire was removed from Acrylia in the zone update of April 2003, although it remains active on the Al'Kabor server.

I would like to see 20 paladins with Slay Undead, 5 clerics, 5 shamans try this

Add a bard to each group for AE Mana, extra Haste, etc.

But I agree, Paladins love the Acrylia Ring Events.

Having done the ring many times, and just done it again last night. I appreciate your 'utopian' vision of this quest. Lemme clarify a few things:

1) it takes about 1.5-2 hours to get through 6 waves. No matter how many people you bring (they just keep popping no matter how fast or slow you kill them)

2) each round has one named mob and each named mob drops 1 and only 1 item. So after 2 hours of none stop fighting you have 6 pieces of loot, but in all fairness the first 3 usually suck.

I didn't intend this as a flame. just to clarify some of the things about this ring event. There are many pieces of loot that drop now there that haven't been listed yet, and are actually rather nice. Also some of the loots posted have been retroactively improved.

We were in there for about 5 hours, 35 63+ people no wipes, very few deaths, and a few nice drops (also some really ****** ones)

Have fun :)
crazy now..

I was surprised at the way this has been upgraded from what's posted here and what I have heard. Our guild did this the other day and couldn't get much past the forst couple spawn cycles. Mobs have a ton of HPs, and if you arent careful, you can re-trigger spawns by stepping close to the Ring again (close by a foot or 2 was enough to start another 3-set).

We died a lot trying to get it down. Some of this info is just plain wrong. A battlelord spawned on the FIRST spawn set when I stepped in on the 2nd try. This is supposed to be the boss mob?? Seems to be 3 possessed corpses every time now too, not 2 or 3.

Someone else mentioned Coth being bad. Yeah, its not good; we lost someone to the hall guard, he got teleported down to lava so one of the mages coth'd him back. Wham, a Grimling Hero pops on top of 3 possessed corpses, and had his way with us. Hero was dark blue to me at 60 but he seemed to have a LOT of HPs.

We had 6-7 groups here for this, most of us closer to 60 than 55. And we got spanked.

Our Guild did this a while back, all 60+ in the guild nit sure how many people, nmaybe 30 or so. Hac the cleric sit in ring to spawns and the call to move out melee moved in, was the most fun I had in a riad yet. We cleric were able to melee and since they are undead, we tanked very well with our new hammers. But primary attention is always on healing :-)

Found a constant rate of spawns in a timely order so your were never below 60mana while meleeing. No need to med or rod! New changes to rods make them useless it seems for a large raid now anyways.

GL on it guys, it is a fun camp!

We tried this last nite, first time we had very lil info on the quest, and with 24 people all 55+ we gotten eaten alive. We regrouped, found out some info and had 36 for second try.
OMG! The things in there spawn so fast it was not even funny! We made it through round one, killed the boss of that round and received the bpme bladed scimitar. We all died like hades by the time we could kill the 2nd boss mob from wave 2.

What we learned? Nope, not everyone need stand in the center of the ring like we tried the first time. We did maintain a FD necro in the center durin the fights, then once we were all near death he walked out FD to stop the spawns. Yes, everything despawned once all were dead and the necro was FD outside the ring itself. Quiet a few of these can be mezzed, and I think its more important now *hindsight* that you have 2 MA's, and focus on one or two of the mobs at one time, instead of 5 MA's working on a mob each.
VERY important to get them killed fast as fire since we had them spawning all over the place.
We went in there with no knowledge about the RoF quest, we just wanted to have fun. Think most everyone that was there will agree though, even with 2 wipes, we had a total blast. Bugged or not, this is royal hoot, extremely intense, and fast paced. Can't wait to try again!

What about Dire Charm from Necros.... since all these things are undead... imagine what a necro could do... ;]
would cut down on all the enemies you gotta kill for a period of time wouldnt it? ;]

I don't think anyone tried AoE or AE DD spells but i know that the shaman were using area slow and the chanters used area mez w/o worrying about the grimlings. This is a ***** of a time now that VI changed it so go in with some well-planned tactics.
i'm missing somthing

Ok i'm not sure i fully understand. Once the triger starts the spawns, can he break the spawn rate without getting himself killed. Or dose he have to stay there untill the end to avoid being sent to the lava pit.
RE: i'm missing somthing
# Sep 04 2002 at 1:01 AM Rating: Default
No if the Trigger Dies then all the spawns cease. The monsters that are already there stay there until you kill them. Xlocing the person to stop the spawns is good, especially if they are a necro and bind there and you xloc to bind.

After doing this quest I have a few basic rules and info for future people. If you read this it will help you immensely on this raid level quest. Keep in mind that RoF is NOT a normal raid and as such MUST be conducted a bit differently.

Trigger: This is the person who stands inside the ring of torches. Once a person enters the ring and stands there for more than about 10 secs, grimlings appear throughout the room and after 2 mins begin to spawn the undead. At any time if you leave the ring under 10 secs the grimlings dissappear and the quest doesnt even begin. After that if the trigger dies or leaves the ring, again the spawns stop and the quest ends. Note: DO NOT leave the the rings if you are the trigger or you WILL be ported into a pit of lava! Only way to save your butt then is to swim to bottom and /quit or /exit out. If you do that youll go back to begining of zone. Ok the major thing to keep in mind for the trigger is that FD is a must! So a monk, SK, or even a Necro is good. But they must stay FD'd so that they dont pick up aggro.

Ok on one side outside of the ring of torches there is a boulder against the wall. After a few try attempts we learned that if you gather all your people there, it helps cut down the ping pong effect therefore allowing you to kill the mobs MUCH faster. I recomend that you spawn the first wave and then remove the trigger to see how fast you kill them. If you can kill them in under 2 mins, then you are doing good and should therefore try to move on. If not keep doing it until you get it down pat.

In the first wave about 3 skeletons spawn, sometimes a priest spawns, sometimes two and sometimes none. Either way killing the priest first helps alot. You can have a chanter on the others constantly back to back mezzing them, or if they are a melee we found that root helped.

General Knowledge to keep in mind.
1)Nukers are a must since they help cut down on the time.
2)Mez may work but not for long so its only effective as a chain mez.
3)Charm will only get you killed.
4)Root may seem old fashioned but it can help alot on the melee type mobs.
5) yes these are undead and as such all undead spells effect them.
6)Pets are a big help in this raid.
7) Do NOT use Call of Heroes....just dont...you will NOT like the results if you do.
8) CR is easy since once everyone dies all the mobs despawn. Once the trigger dies, or leaves ring all the mobs stop spawning.
9)If anyone leaves the room in which the ring is located, since the rings are ONLY in the middle of the room, they will be xloced to a very nasty place. So stand and die and at least your CR will be easy.
10) to get to the ring of fire, just take a left at the first split and keep following it until you get there, is easy to find. Only about 14 mobs in the way to get here and they all very easy. Inside the room you will get NO adds so rest up and buff up before you try with no worry.

Last thing i have to say is a theory that no caster would try out but seems like it might be worth trying. No one would try out AoE or AE spells because they where afraid that they might hit the grimlings that surround you as you do this quest. So I cant tell you if those spells work or if they dont. Either way it would be nice if someone did try and told the rest of us if it worked. I hope this helps people do this successfully, I know we shure spent alot of time doing this. And btw although 6-8 groups of 55+ is required to FINISH this raid. 4 groups of 50+ can do the first wave for exp and killing the boss if they are well balanced. This i know for a fact..

Our guild tried this last night as a test to see how we were progressing on our DPS. We tried it 3 times. First wave was three mobs and every minute afterwards was three more. Possessed priests were able to spawn in any wave and did do complete heals as well as DD dispells, poisons, wraths. The mobs could all be mezzed, stunned, slowed and crippled but could not be charmed. Necro said all his disease and poisons would land as well as all vs undead spells except for charm. Mobs are very sensitive to heals and casts so you cant pile all your guild on one mob as the ones not engaged go straight for the casters. They can be rooted or snared but they break free fairly fast. You simply need high DPS and great coordination.

# Aug 19 2002 at 7:15 AM Rating: Default
Meant to make a clarification. The mobs could be charmed for a couple of seconds then would break charm and kill Enchanter. Not long enough to even get them engaged in combat. As other posts have stated their AC and HP'S are very high.Had a lot of 120 (minimum) backstabs. Could not tell if Rogue poisons were working as I got no messages from my hits on them. No resist or damage or effect or immune message.. nothing at all. But since I was using Muscle Lock 4 I would have thought I would have seen some effect but there was no change and no aggro.
Melees are next to useless
# Jul 26 2002 at 4:21 PM Rating: Default
Those mobs there got very high ac and some good resistance. Melees with normal weapon will hit just min damage every swing if not miss(a lot of missing hits due to mob ac). It is really up to low resistance type of dd spells to deal out decent damage. Bard song might work but you cannot attack or cast while the song is up.

My guild along with another guild tried and got through the secondw ring but couldn't pass the third ring. How? With pets. Let pet to take hts and drain preist mana. It is very hard to stun them from casting CH but never seen any of them cast more 5 CHs. So, just need to focus on 2 mobs and let other Preists to waste their mana to CH. Then move in tank mez those preists. Once their hp drop below 2/3 before they starts CH. Call for casters to nuke. Focus on one mob at time. This tactic worked during the first 2 rings but third one just too much for us to handle. We had 38 people there during that fight.

Just wanted to add that the mobs from the enterance to the ring of fire DO NOT SEE INVIS...the corpse recovery is a joke since after everyone dies the mobs DO despawn

Some possibly to do this over a plane.

- It is a different type of fight than pulling a plane, and might be more fun.
- The loot is better.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 22 2002 at 10:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Heres my one burning question... How big is this ring you have to stay in? If people are talking that you need 30+ people to pull it off... is there room to manuver etc in here?
RE: How big?
# Jun 28 2002 at 11:30 PM Rating: Good
Only one person needs to stay in the ring to keep it going, so you can fight in the whole room....just make sure one person is in the ring or it all ends and you become seriously distraugt.

Verant in their oh so finite wisdom have changed this quest drastically.

The first circle spawns 3 mobs which will have 1 to 3 priests (which CH unfortunately).

Needless to say, my 2 groups of high 50's got swamped as it took forever, even with well timed stuns, to kill the damn priests.

Gah, Verant, if you read this, you should know this kind of vindictive change to a quest, without ANY noticable improvement in exp or loot sucks ***. You're constantly preaching to us players about "risk vs. reward" but you never give us any goddamn reward for these tremendous risks.

# May 07 2002 at 2:43 AM Rating: Decent
Can anybody tell me if these mobs are all undead for sure, and if they are charmable by bard and necro? Seems like that would be the perfect way to work your way through the cycle if charm is an option here. Thanks in advance.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 05 2002 at 11:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) From reading these posts, it sounds like there is a way to DA your way to victory with enough 60th level bards. 60th level bards have a party invulnerability song with a 2 minute recast time. If you had 8 bards, by themselves, they could move in and out of the ring with invunerability up. They would have to have near perfect timing, but would maintain the quest while casters outside the circle nuked the hell out of all the mobs inside the circle. Of course, when are you going to find 8 Level 60 bards together? He He, It's just a thought, if anyone could actually get the bards together.
RE: Exploit your way to victory

that would work, if the entire thing didnt stop if even one person stepped out of the ring.

Heed the warnings of those who say this has been made harder. Gave it a go last night with a sturdy crew and it was bloody viscious. I think we killed 3 or 4 before 6 more overwhelmed us. All very hectic.

Someone noted below that you can't use FD in the ring - I can confirm as sole survivor that it works on these mobs if you are outside the ring.

Can anyone confirm whether or not these mobs are all undead - they look it but i had the wrong spells memmed to test my theory. If thats the case i'm thinking a few necros using charm might be the ticket for crowd control and some pretty serious extra hitting power. Anyone tried charm on these?

#Anonymous, Posted: May 14 2002 at 4:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hey Aero, while I agree with you that 25 55+ is a bit much, I think you should keep your opinions to yourself until you've actualy tried the ring yourself. I hate the arrogant b* on these forums that come in here and try to tell everybody how to play the game. So until you get in that ring with however many people you think is good and try it yourself I suggest you keep your big mouth shut!
