You say, 'Hail, Vasile Jahnir'

Vasile Jahnir says 'Greetings! You seek knowledge of our ways. You shall find knowledge and you shall offer knowledge you have been taught. What is the power of the Gatecallers?'

You say, 'The power of the Gatecallers is summoning.'

Vasile Jahnir says 'Yes. We are the true summoners of Norrath. We are the power supreme. You will learn more and we shall test you. You will go forth and learn the art of summoning. Let your first test be to master the summoning of the dagger and of food. Return to me two summoned daggers and two of the food source you learn to call forth. Do so, and I shall give you the gloves of the Gatecaller.'

Hand in 2 x Summoned: Dagger and 2 x Summoned: Black Bread

Vasile Jahnir says 'Your proof lies in TWO summoned daggers and two summoned loaves of black bread.'
Vasile Jahnir says 'Your proof lies in TWO summoned daggers and two summoned loaves of black bread.'
Vasile Jahnir says 'Your proof lies in TWO summoned daggers and two summoned loaves of black bread.'
Vasile Jahnir says 'You have mastered these spells quickly. You shall now wear the gloves of the Gatecaller. Cumbersome they may feel, but they protect the hands of a young magician. In your young days of magic they will protect you from harm. They are not valued much by merchants, but they are prized by other circles. Nevertheless, we offer them only to our young Gatecallers. You may now be of assistance with a [slight problem].'

What about the other one?
# Jul 28 2002 at 11:01 PM Rating: Default
Does anyone know how to do the quest that comes after this one? He says something about having a slight problem (slight problem being in brackets). I have asked and said everything from "What slight problem?" to "I will help you with your slight problem." and he doesn't answer. My char is only a lvl 2 Mag (Erudite) so it may be that I need to be higher...but it's still something I would like to know about.

Thank you.

My first mage did this quest at level 1 and the item is not bad considering I needed the 2 spells anyway and that all I did was summon a few items to get the gloves. I think the level 7 is if your not a Erudite mage to beginwith.

these are not mag only, if you get a magician friend who can summon them for you and your faction is high enough, there ya go. personally, the 5 wgt i dont like, being weak and all. 3 ac is pretty much low, and the same as raw hide. they look awsome though, and i am going to make a set of armor to make me look like a melee class, so this is one piece i am going to get...

as the rogue uses ice commet! wow! that was a powerful backstab!

Great Quest

I did the Heretic Battle Quest with my level 24 druid to raise faction with the Erudites. I was originally dubious and after I was done killing Elial Brook about 10 times, I was amiable. His spawn is good, every 5 minutes or so. I gave the bones to my erudite wizard (whom was indifferent) and all it took was her turning in one bone to get amiable faction. I recommend this quest to anyone who can do it. Make friends with a mage or make a newbies day by giving them money or buffs in return for the summoned items. It doesn't take long. You could always ask the person killing Elial for his bones. Great faction as well. Good luck to all :)

Good quest for a low level mage because you can't really get better gloves anywhere near when you can get this quest. Mages get enough faction to do this quest by turning in the note for your guild robe and any other erudite caster would only need a little faction to do this quest. The gloves are AC3 which is the same as raw silk but it's basically free since summoning items only costs mana and you will probably want the spells anyhow. I can see that these would be very valuable on a PvP server being no drop also. One note though, they say MAGIC ITEM on them but I received the message, "you try to punch a willowisp but a willowisp is INVULNERABLE" when I tried to use them, even with this bug they are still great to have because you get that nice black glove look and something as good as raw silk. I was amiable when I did this quest (gnome enchanter, erudite magician and erudite wizard all did this quest) and I belive that is the lowest faction you can have to do it. I'd take the extra weight just for the unique look. Also, even though I was unable to use these for a magic punch the argument for why you would want magic punching ability is simple, linkdeath means you come back with none of your summoned items, including a weapon and yes I've made the mistake of going and attacking something before making a new weapon..."oh theres one of those easy blue xxx mobs right there all alone"...nuke...punch...punch..."hey, where's my weapon?"

The wisp problem isn't a bug. Only Monks and Bards are capable of magical punching attacks when wearing magical gloves.

This quest raises your faction with GateCallers and Heretics, and LOWERS it with HighGuardofErudin and HighCouncilofErudin. Also, it doesn't give your any experience: just the gloves and the faction changes.

So I wouldn't recommend doing it more than once, since you don't want to wind up with bad faction with the Erudin Guards...

However, the quest is definitely worth doing for a low level Erudite Magician: a free pair of AC3 gloves just for casting a couple of spells you should buy very early anyway.

I am an Erudite Mage and I did this quest when I was Lvl 3, I could have done it earlier if I had found the person who sold Summon Dagger and Summon Food quicker. What is the next quest that he gives you? The one about getting the Ogre Head? Does he mean the Bridge troll? and if so what level could I reasonably do that quest at??

Great on PvP Servers

This is a great item for newbie casters on PvP servers. The NO DROP property is awesome. Plus, it really isn't hard to get some summoned food and water. It's quick and easy. You're not camping something for hours just for a part of this quest. Take advantage of this if you are starting a newbie caster in Erudin.

I was pretty satisfied with this quest...Those who've siad there's no reason someone couldn't do it at level one if they had enough money for the spells are right...
The gloves may weigh a lot, but they do give a good AC boost and raw silk is not so easy to come by in Odus. Hitting things that are magical isn't such a big deal with summoned weapons, but I don't use the summoned dagger...I'm practicing with a 2H staff for when I can get the runed totem staff. I thought this was a good low level quest. Kadthar Lvl 10 Magician

Okay, I tried this Quest as a Human Magician. Unfortunately my faction was to low with the Gatecallers. So I did the Heretic Quest. Go to Toxxulious Forest and Hunt Elial Brook by the dock. He's a level 8 with a pet. Once you kill him the first time camp him. Then when he spawns kill him before he can summon a pet. Do this for about 6 or 7 times. Then you will have high enough faction to do this Quest. ~Qamgine (Tallon Zek)

Just to bolster the opinion of the person above, a lvl 1 Summoned Dagger is better than your Newbie Dagger*.
Gloves
# Aug 07 2000 at 9:41 AM Rating: Default
Why would you need magical gloves? Everything you summon is magical, if you're ever without a magic weapon past level 2 (the level 1 dagger is magical and as good or better than your starting weapon) you're doing something wrong. The only nice thing is that they are free as someone mentioned above. But the weight is rediculous. Thats almost 10% of my non buffed carry capacity. And if mages cared about looks, we wouldn't see so many in those clown suits... err i mean oracle robes.

Why would you need magical gloves? What if you've got steins in both of your hands? What if you're not a magician and can't summon magical weapons (the gloves are for wizards, enchanters, and necromancers, too). There are many reasons to have magical gloves, and these aren't bad, considering the level you can get them at!

If you have Steins in both hands and need these gloves, you are a twink, and a silly one at that. If you can get 2 steins you should be able to get yourself some Netted gloves. =p

Why would you even bother attacking if you don't have a weapon? Magical or not, a casters fists are definately not fearsome weapons.
Gloves of the Gatecaller

I attained these gloves at 2nd level, after much arduous work, and I have not regretted it. It is a relatively easy quest, the end result is a pair of heavy black MAGICAL gloves that do allow you to hit magical only in those sad times you are in hand-to-hand WHICH, as a newbie, I had done quite often!
Gloves of the Gatecaller

I think this quest is great for low levels. The gloves weigh a lot, yes, but they look good with any robe and they give 3AC. I am a level 13 magician and i still have them!

Verified that with "warmly" faction he will give these gloves to anyone. I bought the components off of a mage and submitted them myself. No faction, and not really worth it unless you are really looking for some heavy black gloves. No XP either.
Gatecallers' Gloves

Got these at first or second level. They're black. Some people seem to like that. They are free. That's the best part. They are VERY heavy and the AC is no better than raw silk.

Did this as a Druid. Bought the summoned daggers from a magician and made my own food. It worked. Couldn't use the gloves but he did give them to me.
dont try it unless...

I suggest you dont do this quest unless you are 1) actually an Erudin or have Illusion Erudite and 2) actually a magician, which is funny cause magicians can not illusion.

If you're an Erudite Magician, your GateCallers (Erudin Magician Guild) faction starts at amiable, so you can do this quest as soon as you have the money to buy the spells.

For everybody else: you can raise your GateCallers faction by killing Heretic Prophets or Elias Brook in Toxxulia Forest; this will also raise your faction with the other two Erudin caster guilds and with the Deepwater Knights clerics/paladins in Erudin.

The lowest level Heretic Prophets can be soloed starting at level 5; by level 7 all of them should be easily soloable for most characters.

Elias Brook is a level 7 necromancer by the pier on the beach in Tox. Forest; he respawns fairly quickly, but is fairly tough for a level 7 monster. I don't recommend tackling him alone unless you're several levels higher than he is. (At level 12, my ranger could kill him as fast as he respawned, but the fights were challenging.)
Someone doesn't know about enchanters...
# Sep 18 2000 at 9:21 PM Rating: Decent
An enchanter could do this quest, with the help of a magician of course! Breeze and summon summon summon...when done, I'm sure an enchanter of a less than favorable race will be looked at favorably; but getting to Erud is the first step!
RE: Someone doesn't know about enchanters...
# Feb 21 2001 at 2:24 PM Rating: Default
This should be an easy one to do:

1. Breeze ur favorite Mage for 2 summoned food and 2 summoned daggers

2. for enchanters: cast illusion erudite, and Beneavalance the npc, he now loves ya

3. give the goodies and get the gloves in return

Wrong level...
# Jul 05 2000 at 7:35 AM Rating: Good
I see that this quest is rated with a minimum level of 7, yet I got my pair as a second level magician. I really only matters if you can get the money for the summon spells. It would seem that you can even complete this quest at level one if you had the gold.
