You say, 'Hail, Khala Dun Aoera'

Khala Dun Aoera says 'Welcome to our fair city traveler. We have much in the way of fine food and entertainment. If you are planning to explore the crater, please beware of the vermin infesting the area.

    You say, 'What vermin?'

Khala Dun Aoera says 'There are all kinds of bugs, worms, and even grimlings that roam through the crater. They scavenge the food dropped below by careless people, as well as the occasional unskilled citizens and adventurers who wish to put their hunting prowess to the test. If you are considering hunting in the crater despite my warnings, do consider assisting our city by returning with some of the scorpion glands. If you supply Spiritist Ragnar with these glands, he will be able to make a sufficient anti venom for those who are bit by these horrid little beasts.

Collect a Whiptail Poison Gland and give it to Spiritist Ragnar who can be found in the building with a candle symbol above the door next to the bank.

Spiritist Ragnar says 'A blessing indeed! You have done well to bring this to me. With these glands I will be able to save many lives. Thank you friend, Shar Vahl and its people are in your debt. Please, accept these gifts to assist you in your endeavors. It is the least I can do to return the favor you have done many many people.

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl has been adjusted by 1.

You gain experience, some coin and a random piece of padded armor.

Padded Sleeves are a possible reward as well. I'm sure someone, someday, will find this information to be extremely useful.

You only need to hand in one to get the reward.

A good armor quest for newbs to hold them off until able to do magic armor quests out in Shadeweaver's Thicket. I would like to add, though. When you hand in your 4 whiptail poison glands you get back 4 random pieces of padded armor, so make sure you have enough room or you will lose those pieces!

This quest has apparently been changed. The glands can be handed in 1 at a time for the reward.

You don't even have to talk to the guard to start and finish this quest. Just get the glands and give them to the Spiritist. And it is a good quest because you can just sell the armor and get Padded leather quite quickly.

Hi. I have a low lvl Rogue equiped with a full suit of padded and I was wondering, what is the next stpe up from this armor? Everyone talks about better stuff but its kinda hard to just go out there and say, oopse I found the next upgrade thats approprite for my lvl.
    Ty for any imput

Go out into the Shadeweaver's Thicket and start doing the Ghulum armor, rebirth leather and the hunting leather quests. Search here to find the paticulars for each quest.
Also, don't forget to do the garbage collection quest for the uber noob weight redux bag (A whooping 2% redux!!). Gives you something to put all those items collected in instead of having to shell out 6GP - a lot of money for an under 7 character.

You know I'm surprized how many of these new quests fail to mention where the damn quest guy is. Please update all these quests with a general location or coordinates of where they are...

Well, I'm going through and taking a photo of everyone in Shar Vahl, and a /loc, and with a little image manipulation, everyone's /loc should be in their image . . .

But I don't want to flood poor Illia, so I'm sending them in slowly.

Padded armor has the same AC as raw silk and is wearable by all classes.
    My 2 Cents

For any newbie considering this quest, DO IT!

First off, you get experience for killing the whiptail scorpions (duh).

Second, you get experience, a few silver, and a piece of padded armor for turning in 1 gland (not 4). Do it enough times and you'll be wearing a full set of brand new padded armor (and at early levels it's better than nothing).

Finally, if you get a piece of padded armor that you don't need, you can sell it right back to Ragnar for 2 to 4 gold.

This is a great way to armor up and put a little coin in your pocket at the same time.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 06 2002 at 4:42 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) to the person referring to dingy being same ac and slightly cheaper but you can quest for padded. At level 4 I was fully equipped in dingy armor which is a random drop of nuisance's in the thicket. The other nice thing about dingy armor is it is almost weightless.

Read my post again... I did in fact mention that you can quest for it. Said it twice, in fact.

By the way, you can kill nuisances in Shadeweaver's Thicket for the dingy armor rather than buy off merchants too. Harder than fighting whiptail scorpions, only marginally though.
    Padded -vs- leather

So for the BL class is this armor better than leather?

Not even close. Leather is expensive though, padded is more cost effiecent per AC, and if you quest for it, it's free. As near as I can tell this armor has better AC than cloth, but not as much as leather. Good buy for newbies, although I have to point out that dingy armor has the exact same AC, but sells for slightly less. Of course as I said before, if you quest for padded, it's free.

My god, what is wrong with you? This post truly frightens me.

Seriously, if this post is for real, you have some major problems. And if it was intended as a joke, you still have some major problems.

I am not amazed that there are people rude enough to post like this... it is kinda funny that you have so much free time on your hands that you have to put this much effort into putting someone down, then go totally off your original topic to brag about things that don't matter.

...You must be very proud of yourself

As for 50pp being given to a low level character, that's pretty kewl... gives you a chance to get ahead of the curve Smiley: smile

heck id be happy if someone had handed me 50pp at that level too. and the length of your post is really sad...making fun of someone else, when you obviously have no life of your own. typing like 100 lines of crap over a 1 line comment, people like you make me sick. leave the kid alone

The padded is nice enough if you have nothing else, and whiptails aren't all that hard to kill.

This is really the 'money maker' quest for new Vah Shir. Most of the pit mobs have NO DROP loot, so making cash for spells and tradeskilling (man, that's an expensive burden for a newbie), you can do this quest and make 1-3 gp per piece on the doubles.

And, of course, once you start upgrading your equipment, you can sell off the extra. I think I had about 20pp saved up by the time I reached level 9, most of it from this quest, and I was wearing something in all my non-jewelry slots (well, I had a +3 CHA earring, from another quest in town); I just killed any whiptails I saw while looking for my class-specific quest items. That's not a bad stash for a newbie.
    Poison glands
    # Dec 28 2001 at 6:28 PM Rating: Good
You do not need to give him 4 glands, you can give him 1, and he will give you a random piece of armor. I am now 1 piece away from a full set of padded (lame I know, but it works until I can make the Xakra and Hooper hide stuff) and it sells for between 1 and 4 GP to him. Good way to get money built up.

Important note you get factions and xp and armor for EACH gland, even if turned in 4 at a time. This is decent armor for a level 3 and good money also at this level. The quest, 4 glands, gave about 1 full bubble of blue xp on level 3 Rog.

Hey, there is nothing lame about wearing the best that you can get your hands on at your level, especially when the alternative is running around naked.

Padded armor is not lame just because there is better in the game. It has its usefulness in your character's development... like, to keep him/her alive long enough to get to that better stuff later.

In fact, some padded armor pieces I bought off the vendor kept me alive long enough to finish quests to obtain better armor.

Had I known of this little quest earlier, I could've saved that little bit of coin. I say, you get that full set of padded and then go out and kick some butt to earn better as you go along.
